  1. I think you misunderstood where I was shooting from, or I misunderstood your post :P it was simply a retort to a previous poster, ie I meant visual polish is something to come last (didn’t make that clear enough in my post, I didn’t mean slapping something on it visually pleasing now!) and should be relatively easy to do once the functionality etc have been solved. When its been settled on what's best, tarting it up shouldn’t take too long.
  2. agreed, but surely visal polish is as easy as slapping a skin on it? Getting it functional/ in the right place is essential, then the aesthetics surely will take next to no time. edit: sorry just saw the above posts.

this i agree with. I think most people like routine and knowing what is on the cards/ round the corner, regular updates and predefined points in time would keep a lot more people happy.

this is exactly the line of people from the war z forum spouted time and time again when HP failed to live up to expectations. Beware! lol. But lets be honest the community updates have been lacking and there needs to be more communication. I feel there is a lot of defending of the dayz team saying "but they are doing the work", yes most informed people know that ( ie those who frequent the forums enough,) but at the same time they are NOT doing enough to actually let people know what they are doing. I don't get why people are going on the defensive every time a criticism is slung at rocket and the team when they only have themselves to blame for not putting across enough info. Not to mention you are just making the community see like a bunch of fanboy wankers. I am starting to see too many posts which are reminiscent of the early days of the warz forums, so....Stop it! also this is making me feel like its a bit like the katana update.... :P hahahaha, i kid i kid.

i think this is the main issue with the development of the game, the fact that info/progress has been slack in his absence means either they didn't bother while the head of the project wasn't there, or that they couldn't progress due to rocket having total creative control. Either one is rather worrying considering as soon as he gets back suddenly we will have a downpour of progress and info soon? I understand this is rocket's baby, but at the same time a project of this scale cant be solely down to the decision making of one person. I love rockets ideas, and i respect him as a developer and person in general, but he really needs to let some things go. It seems that him wanting to be personally responsible is, although admirable, having a hindering effect on production. Well thats what it seems from the outside

way to cherry pick one part of my entire post, kind of likens me to those who are criticising the quality of the game etc. I am simply saying I can see why people are annoyed about the lack of info. I have made the point many a time before, comparing dayz to "other games" is moot. The dayz is not other games, the dayz is not fifa, gta or anything else. The Dayz is a game that has come into fruition because of the support from the community and the popularity of the mod. People are of course going to feel a sense of entitlement opposed to a game pumped out by a faceless corporation, because everyone feels they have had a part in it. So my point swings both ways, you can’t claim that we get more info about dayz than other games, and then say it can’t be compared with AAA titles, it’s kind of double standards and the same goes for those criticising it. People saying the lack of info is warranted because it is more than we usually get are conveniently ignoring their own point that dayz is not another AAA title. The issue is that people are getting itchy plainly because they want the game so much. Placating people would be much more constructive than alienating them and just giving the community a bit more info would do that. I wasn’t talking at all about the quality of the work, because personally I believe it looks fantastic, but some of the dev blogs are indeed rather “lite”. I personally would prefer more in depth dev blogs not so often, those screaming for a huge one every week are indeed being unrealistic. A fortnightly dev blog which is relatively chunky should suffice, but it seems the regularity/in depth nature of the dev blogs varies wildly. People are sticklers for routine, give them that and a decent amount of info each time, they shouldnt having anything to complain about. There will always be some that just want something to bitch about, but the majority wont. Most do not understand the complexity and time consuming nature of what they are doing, Informing people properly is the main thing here. I dont doubt the work they are doing, just the ability to convey that to the wider community is lacking.

a lot of the comments defending dayz are starting to sound more and more like the war z at the beginning, They are not the same game and the end result will not be the same, ie the dayz standalone will be epic. But I feel its developed into hardcore fans making excuses for the team not pumping out much info about the game. Either way i think people who are getting annoyed/will be annoyed need to mediate their expectations slightly. It has been what, 8-9 months since they got the go ahead for standalone? I think people just think they are using the same engine and slapping a few bits on, like the war z. This is not the case, i dont think people really realise how much work it has taken to strip down the entire engine and pretty much rebuild it. It takes a lot of time and effort. Some games are in production for years longer than dayz before they even get a alpha/beta out.

    DayZ SA: Endgame content

depends what game you are talking about XD with dayz yes, with MMO's like gw2 it kind of ruined it not having an endgame.
  15. I think that will be impossible to tell until the game is in fact launched, i think there will still be hotspots and areas people will fight over, that wont change, so i don't think that it will feel that much bigger. At least not enough to warrant twice as many people on a map. 50 people is enough to know there is still a very real threat from other people but not enough to make you worry more about other players than zombies. Providing that the zombies are actually threatening. Maybe they should make it an option, but i don't think ti should be a standard. I personally would love the feel of being on a server and not seeing anyone all day but knowing another 59 people are lurking around. Just adds to the suspense we all know and love this game can give.
  16. haha tell me about it! really want to go and see it, i think when my bonus comes through, I'm skint. Oops thread deviation....... :P devblog please?
  17. at work i guess? I have exactly the same thing at work :P, also discussing the star trek movie i see? hehe
  18. i have to agree with keeping servers at 60 people. I realise the size of the map in terms of buildings that you are able to enter etc will make the game feel bigger, but i tend to find with 50-60 people on a map at the moment you tend to run across people often enough, and any more would defiantly ruin the feeling of isolation and being one of a select few survivors. I would guess that on the map there would been 50k people living there before the virus struck. (i could be totally wrong). Lets say 90% of the population died outright and 9.9% came back as zombies. So 5k zombies and 50 survivors ( so there is a 0.1% immune rate amoung the population). I think that's a good number. (i think i read somewhere they spawned 4k zombies on a server?) It makes the sheer volume of zombies a lot more threatening and killing others secondary. I think it will balance the game somewhat. having say 120 people would defiantly detract from that and make humans a lot more of a threat, and with that number of zombies as well. Personally i think it would be too much. I would prefer more zombies than more people. PvP is an important aspect to the game but you run the risk of making players the number one threat, which in a zombie apocalypse i personally don't think should be the case. Zombies should be difficult enough/challenging enough that people think twice about taking someone out just for the hell of it. Unless you have a silenced sniper/gun someone should really think twice about blasting someone, knowing that zombies could very well cut them off their escape route and lead to death. Atm players are very much the only threat with zombies being very easily avoidable. Note: maybe rocket should give an explanation to number of people on a server and number of zombies, it would add to realisitic nature of the game knowing the numbers/stats behind infection.
  19. This just made me think, there should be a choice for people who dont want to risk their balls running into the major cities to get supplies/ammo, etc. Hunting lodges dotted about in addition to deer stands so basic hunting weapons can be acquired to kill animals and repel attackers. Also it should be possible to forge a basic bow and arrow due to you being in the wilderness you should be able to hunt animal without relying on guns. Anyone thinking poison tipped? :P
  20. @ Zappa I don’t think its the length of time that people are getting irate about rather not knowing when. The SA is going to be great, everyone knows it, and ofc I would prefer it to take longer than to be rushed. I understand Rockets want to not give another date due to missing the last BUT 6 months can easily turn into a year and without any idea of when an alpha will be release people feel left in the dark somewhat. Also it gives the FALSE impression that people are not working hard enough, ie to a deadline. The more savvy know this isnt the case due to the massive changes taking place and the amount of work that has to go into that, but as i mentioned in my previous post i think there is the risk of getting bogged down in the finer details. I think most people can only keep their attention on something for a period before getting annoyed. Even if they said that in "6 months an alpha will be released", so it could be 2 months it could be 6, but at least people would have a very vague idea. I think you underestimate the frustration that some people have coming back every week or so seeing amazing progress but not having the foggiest when they will be able to sample it.
  21. Great update, looks like things are coming along nicely. Although i do agree with the "it will be ready when it is ready approach" with mods and games that are seriously short on budget, i feel that can sometimes cause tension. Telling people dates that will never be met is somewhat undesirable, but i do believe the community need a more concrete roadmap. I am not talking specifics but estimates. I would prefer some kinda of idea, even if it is a year, than none whatsoever. (having said that i may have missed something?) Rocket has done a brilliant job, and so have the dev team, but now they are funded and have money I dont think that such an attitude can really be taken. Also i think taking that approach can sometimes be a little detrimental. Although i love the painstaking attention to detail i think getting too bogged down in it can sometimes mean putting a lot of effort into things very few will appreciate. I genuinely think that some things will be overlooked on a day to day basis by the player base. I dont think that this is having an adverse effect on pushing the game to the public, but it feel it might at a later date. Rockets attention to detail makes this an interesting project to watch develop, and i realise that he wants to do it right. So i am sympathetic to the line of thought he has Having said all this i believe that this extreme is is better than the opposite, which has been displayed by a certain other company that shall not be named, but sometimes a happy medium can be struck. Either way the game will far surpass what we have seen so far. Also good luck on your trip rocket, no one will berrate you here for doing it, lets just hope your minions can keep up the pace in your absence ;)
  22. ]then again it can go the other way with games like guild wars 2 which have no end game apart from grinding cosmetic gear and are as boring as turd, there is a fine balance to be had. The way i see it is i want dayz to be the zombie apocalypse version of EVE, being able to shape and manipulate a world in any way you see fit! I wish we could get the trains working along the coast, that would be truly epic!
  23. this its a mod.....a free one at that...... Now if this were the case with the SA i would say you have a point, but simply putting your fingers in your ears and going "lalalalalalala" isnt hiding the fact you are a douche, just because you believe a FREE mod based on an engine that is easily exploitable should be hacker free doesnt mean you are right, in fact you couldn't be more wrong! I don't see why it is any different/that hard to play on a private hive.....? This mod is not receiving active moderation/attention because they are working on the SA. Get your head out of your ass and wake up and smell the coffee.
