I'm using the in-game server browser. I wasn't aware that you could look for servers with anything else.

Only if the admins on the server in question are retarded i.e. they see a hacker doing stuff and just ban everyone who shows up in the script log without giving it any critical thought.

Yeah, that sucks. I killed a bandit and took his L85. I was so excited because I had actually never had one before. I was sent to the thunderdome ten minutes later.

You'd need to be careful about that, though. Ghosting is the only way you can escape the Thunderdome.

I'm going to risk getting yelled at here and state that it's a bit more difficult to use the DMR at longer ranges since it can't be zeroed, and that it being used with NVGs doesn't really matter since you can turn brightness and gamma up anyway.

Fairly self-explanatory. Ambush stories, how-tos, good locations, how to not fall into one, etc, all go here. I'll start it off: I was running around Berezino a little while ago and saw a light in the woods. Thinking it was a heli crash, I ran towards it, but was surprised to find that it was a van with its lights on. I asked my friend about it and he said that he had actually checked it out earlier and that nobody was there. I took the van and headed to Kamenka to kill fresh spawns so I could get my bandit skin back. On the way I looted a few towns and acquired an AKM and a ghillie suit, but I decided to keep moving south anyway. As I arrived on the outskirts of Kamenka, the van ran out of gas. As I was about to abandon it, I had a brilliant idea: I left the lights on and sprinted into the bushes. Not even a minute later, I heard someone get in the van and start honking the horn. As I took aim, the driver stepped out and typed in chat "lol it's broken... oh well, still funny to see a random van in the middle of the road." I opened fire with my AKM the moment he got out, but he didn't die, so I shot him a few more times. After I was sure that he was dead, I ran up to the van to discover that I had just killed two people, both of whom were now producing the most delicious tears on side chat. Sadly, the server was restarted several minutes later, so I didn't get to catch anyone else with it. Oh and before anyone starts crying about how I shouldn't have killed poor bambis, they were both armed and one had a bandit skin. It was my van that they tried to steal, too.

Well, here's another one for you guys: I was with a group of 7 friends on my favorite server, and i had just been attacked in Elektro as the others were moving in to loot it. I regrouped with them to the north, in the woods, and we slowly and carefully made our way to the power plant. We spread out into two groups (with our AS50 guy giving cover from the northwest hill) and made our way deeper into the city in search of loot and the asshole who tried to kill me earlier. We cleared the school, store (killing one guy who was there), and the West fire station, and regrouped after our sniper shot someone who was trying to get a position on the roof of the East fire station. Someone spotted a ghillie suit running along the tracks to the West, so we all huddled up in the schoolhouse to ambush him when he came near. Unfortunately, someone joined the server and said something about the tons of zombies in Elektro, which set off a rather nasty chain reaction. I heard footsteps to the north of the school, so I set up position to watch the store and hotel. Seconds later, I heard a grenade explode at the front of the school; another one quickly followed. I hauled ass back inside as everyone moved away from the windows. Some random guy with an Enfield ran in the door I was covering with my own Enfield, and we opened fire on each other; I was knocked out, he was only bleeding. He took several steps backwards and tried to look up the stairs (at my friends who were ready to shred him to pieces), but was shot by a sniper on the roof of the hospital. Our own sniper dispatched this guy and informed us that the grenades, which hadn't stopped coming, were all being launched by another guy on the hospital roof. During a break in the shooting, I realized that we were in a really bad shape. One of us had been killed by a grenade, two others had been downed in the streets by an unknown enemy as they tried to flank the sniper and grenadier, and I was unconscious and bleeding out. We decided to GTFO, and I ran to the power station as soon as I woke up and bandaged myself. While passing out from blood loss and shaking uncontrollably from pain, two randoms shot and killed each other near the school building, and our sniper let us know that the grenadier, who had been logging in and out, had been ghosting and was now glitched inside of the hospital. After a swift swing of the banhammer, my buddies on the ground met up with me and we gave each other transfusions. One headed up sniper hill to circle around and meet with our sniper, the other guy left to check the west fire station again, and I went back to the school to loot the bodies. In the process, a bandit made the rather unfortunate mistake of logging in and crawling into the hallway right after I had picked up my friend's AK-74. He did not survive. Those of us who were still alive ran to the northwest hill. Someone found a working SUV along the way, and we went to Berezino where "that guy" among us threw a grenade and made bullet cracks on his mic. The SUV was flipped shortly afterward, and I decided to log off and call it a night. All in all, it was the most fun DayZ experience I've had.

I stopped playing for a few months and came back to find the majority of people on private hive servers, and the few populated normal servers to be harassed by hackers. (One of the two servers I found that actually had admins on, Dallas 1, just went down and has suspiciously been replaced with "Dallas 001 somethingsomethingRuskiClan." I now have nowhere to play; it's boring with only 3 people on a server). What the hell happened? It's really gay that so many people are on private hive servers. I can't imagine that Rocket hasn't said something about private hive servers in the past, so does anyone know why he allows them?

Well, this one time I was on a server with side chat, and the players were going on and on and on about this sniper that was on a hill. He must have done a good job; they just wouldn't stop talking about him. I took a drink from my canteen and realized that the sniper was me. Feeling proud of myself, I re-located and shot someone who tried to sneak up on my old position.

back in 1.5.something, I spawned on the coast of Cherno, took three steps, and immediately got the attention of two zombies, who screamed and got the attention of another three or so of their companions. I died within the minute. I loved it.

I chuckled.

At first I was a nice guy. Then I got bored (and was murdered a few times) and I decided to shoot more often. Afterwards, I rationalized that I could kill people without provocation if I was in need of supplies. I stopped playing for a few months and then came back. Now, I do it for fun (and for EZmode looting: have some poor sap do it for you, then kill him and take his stuff). I still loot normally, but I'm playing it safe because I found a ghillie suit and love it so much. Seriously, that thing is AWESOME. Edit: To show you how awesome it is, here's a story: I was running around at night on my favorite server and saw someone hauling ass for a warehouse in Komarovo. I set up position to take him out, but before I could do so, two guys ran to my position with flashlights. I was scared as fuck that these guys were about to kill me (silly I know, but I had just been in a gunfight 10 minutes earlier), but to my astonishment, THEY DIDN'T SEE ME. I had been crouching next to a bush and they were 10-20 feet away from me; both of them had shone their lights on me. After the shock wore off, I quickly downed them with two .303s to the chest for each. Sadly, the server was extremely laggy and I came back (after losing laggy zombies... those things are next to impossible to get rid of) to find them bandaging each other. Another 303 round to each did the trick though, and I looted them to find... ... absolutely nothing in the way of weaponry. Oh well. Can't be too careful.

My very first was the first time I went to Zelenogorsk, as a complete and total noob... I heard shooting and saw someone in the grocery store attracting about 50 zombies to him. I kept asking over and over whether he was friendly or not, but I never got a response. I ran into the front of the store (he had been pushed into the back) and asked him over direct comms if he was friendly. Still no reponse (though that could have been because direct comms were broken at that time :rolleyes: ). I went around the corner and saw myself looking down the barrel of a winchester. I flipped out and magdumped my makarov into him. I reloaded and waited back around the corner; I was sure that he was about to poke his head out and rape me... ... until I heard the flies buzzing around :D

You're kidding me, right? You deserved to die. I'd have killed you, too, in those situations (well, maybe not the last one).

I don't agree that they should be back to the way they were... But I would absolutely love it if they were skins that you could find, like the camo and ghillie skins.

I had camo skin on my latest character and I didn't have a single problem with it. Ended up giving it away to a guy who gave me a blood transfusion.

The explosions didn't look too impressive in the video that was posted. Do the nukes instantly kill everyone regardless of placement, or were there multiple nukes being set off?

nudging left and right to place one isn't difficult. Use vehicles to store stuff. If you can't find/hide them, then pack light and only keep what you can carry. You'll know this principle well if you've ever had a motorcycle.

The AKM is very good because of its power and the ability to zero its sights. The rifles with optics on them are also nice. I would say that the best common weapon is the Lee Enfield because of its power, accuracy, and because it doesn't seem to be as loud as it was a few patches ago.

I found my first vehicle about three hours ago. I was trying to find a friend and I got lost along the way. I saw something yellow in the trees, and holy shit, it was a working car. I managed to hide it in the dark, but I'm gong to have to stay up until sunrise to make sure that it's hidden from view in the day. You have no fucking idea how happy I was. The fueltank leaks, but a quick trip to a nearby city will fix that. Edit: It's slow offroad, so I'll also gladly trade it for an ATV or other off-road vehicle when/if I find one.

I dislike it. It's not very accurate, you can't carry much ammo for it since every bolt takes up one inventory space, and it takes forever to reload. The hatchet is a much better weapon, in my opinion (though it may need to be nerfed because it's extremely easy to clear out hallways of zeds with it). Edit: Also, either it's just me, or the Lee Enfield has been buffed in the sound department. I can now use it in more populated areas without attracting the entire flipping city to my location.

I'm confused... has the wipe already happened yet, or is Rocket waiting until every server hits 1.7.1.5 to wipe the tents?

Someone has probably already mentioned this, but guns are zeroed at certain ranges so that the bullet will land where you're aiming at that range. If your target is farther out than that range, the bullet will hit low. If your target is closer than that, the bullet will hit high.
