Devblog update: Where is the Standalone?
Private Evans replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
since this is discussed here... @sunnz Taviana looks and feels like a model railway landscape...no question it is well done it is big and has some nice new buildings and structures...but it is boring like hell...nearly no sign of an apocalypse and really not enough zombies spawning for such a large world...don't get me wrong I do not want to blame the mod author for this...but creating such huge cities like on Taviana is just creating a showcase of your modding skills ..it would need tons of clutter and hundreds or maybe even thousands of zombies to make this feel a real zombie apocalypse...no question this would melt down any computer system....so in my eyes a pretty bad concept and an example how it not should be... I prefer a city like Cherno with maybe only hundred but enterable buildings , lods of infected and a real apocalypse feeling, than such Potemkin villages you can find for example on Taviana. just my two cents PS: for me Chernarus is probably the best open world map ever made in gaming history (even without the improvments being made) Quote MultiQuote Edit -

Devblog update: Where is the Standalone?

We are now commencing work on the redevelopment of the infected people (zombie) models themselves. This will be an exciting area of work for our artist who is dedicated to this task. Initially we will be producing male and female, I would like to look at the possibility of children infected - but there are technical (required new skeleton and baked animations), possible legal (rating issues), and even moral (shooting children) issues that need to be faced. ...I would say females will be included.... for the children....I think there are too many barns in the game.... -
A not-announcement announcement for the forums!

I am playing and modding games since more than 20 years now and if I have learnt something, especially as a modder, during this long time.....people like you are never pleased and will never be pleased, in fact people like you are driving talented people away from modding or developing games and people like you even can destroy entire communities....people like you do not discuss aspects of the gameplay or give any creative input...people like you prefer to count bugs or whine about bad graphics or for not being informed properly or for Rocket not using the arma 3 engine for the SA..... this sucks so much !! we will get no screenshots or technical details and we will have to wait longer for the SA than expected BUT we will get a proper game right from the start and not just a polished version of the mod.... if you are not pleased...complain to Sergej Titov the guy who has burnt an entire new business model (minecraft model) of game developing....- 254 replies

A not-announcement announcement for the forums!
Private Evans replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
at the beginnining the devs just wanted to create a polished version of the mod and then start adding new (fun) stuff later on...at some point this autumn when they had tweaked the game engine for their needs they realized that they could do so much better ... I would say at this time the real SA was born...so no need to hurry... cheers -
don't we all share the same dream...a nice and cosy base somewhere on Taviana...low zombie spawns...friendly players only and a fully equipped medic team around every corner...maybe...some little ponies to play with...

 it is an BI game so they are using of course the BI sources....in fact they have written something like their own engine for the SA based on the "Take on helicopters" engine which is based on the A2 engine, but also added new stuff as well from A3 where needed....we could even call it DayZ Stand Alone Engine V.1.0 ...of couse the basic look and graphics will be the same as in the mod but I guess we'll have a good chance to get a better lighting and weather system in the future...don't know about new shaders and textures...however.... this is the look of the virtual reality engine...and I really like it :) -
simply "The Build"
-
don't see a big problem here but the SA should have all basic features implemented...this means the overhauled map including eye candy and stuff, new controls, new inventory, new medic system, new crafting (repair) item system, new loot system, new clothing system, new weather system ? overhauled nights and last but not least overhauled Zombies,...if possible a few new goodies like new weapons , vehicles or items perhaps..... however in other words ...a fully functioning basic game..updates and new contents would be additions to make the game better and not to complete it...
-
oh my god...assholes flying low it seems....go and suscribe on some EA or Ubisoft forums and buy the same crappy games year after year as long as they are marketed professional...Rocket and even BI maybe are somekind of semi professional sometimes, but they love what they are doing and this is what makes this game (as well as the arma series) outstanding... cheers PS: or go and buy WarZ....they provide very professinal teaser videos, forums and screeenshots ...in short terms a professional marketing....

maybe give us a new item...a Geiger counter ( and some stalker outfits  ) ...radioactively contaminated zombies could be stronger and their radiation would kill you ...and real heavy fog would be awesome. especially in the forest areas... does this wishlist sounds greedy ? :D
-
Everything has been said, the Rocket stalk was a good laugh for a few posts, but now it seems that mainly people, who do not know what they are talking about, are left. This never ending whining sucks !!! Take a look at games like Diabolo, Duke Nukem, Max Payne etc etc and how companies like EA or Ubisoft are treating their customers...you are counting days and hours...wtf..even a week delay for an anouncment would be be business as usual....Kindergarten
-
the "air raid siren" idea ( inspired by stalker ) as an automated warning system for the blow outs seems to be popular :) ...for the future I would really like to see some radioactivaly contaminated areas also... cheers
-
very good job on the update :beans: ...more time to find or reach a building during the blowout would be fine though :D ...a sirene one minute before the blowout starts would make it more dramatic and would give us at least a small chance to find some shelter... cheers and thx for creating this

" holy fuck a heli crash site..now I've got a machine gun...ho ho ho" :P ....probably a winter christmas special edition...

New Dev Blog Report: November 2012

now something completely different....ever noticed that steam is doing a lot for the indie game and modding community...I am sure a living modding community will be the future of DayZ at some point and this is reason enough to choose it (steam) as a platform.... cheers -
5 days to fix the warp engine Scotty.....you have 5 hours :) keep up the good work cheers

This is not the Elder Scrolls Online...skill and perktrees...what else??...safe zones and npc traders ?? for f...s sake this should not be the sims featuring a few zombies...the player should be on the run all the time..desperately trying to find a can of pet food..a few bullets, new batteries, some fuel or a safe place to create a fireplace..always hunted by herds of really deangerous infected...hungry, cold and paranoid.....find out on your own how to survive...how to craft and repair things...how to avoid zombies..how to find the safest routes...how to loot a building..how to fight a sniper..etc etc...starting as a bambi and becoming a pro by playing the game not by advancing through a skill and perk system... just my two cents of course :) -
just daydreaming....maybe the the whole shit with the zombie virus has begun right here at Namalsk and then was brought to the rest of the world by the soldiers which have fought on the island during the crisis....like in "Day by Day Armageddon" written by J.L. Bourne...

it will be steam and it is the take on helicopters engine...end of the story...it has become such a pain in the ass to read these never ending complaints instead of discussing the exciting possibilities the anounced features will provide.... PS: if there will be no horses in the alpha release I am done with DAYZ.... -
that's all I wanted to hear :-) I know that modding will not be supported right from the start of the DayZ standalone but Rocket stated that there will be new maps (official and fan made) in the future....btw very good point mentioning travelling between the maps..in this case I personally dream of something like the Metro (2033) universe project for DayZ in the future... cheers
-
sorry if this has been answered already.... will Namalsk be updated to work with the DayZ standalone instead of the mod version ? cheers and thx for this wonderful map/mod
