Devblog update: Where is the Standalone?
Private Evans replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
absolutely agreed....this is a very basic thing that should be fixed/improved for the SA as soon as possible, if not even for the first release..what we have now is that most or at least a lot of the busy servers are day only which really sucks..just adding a tiny bit more of moon and starlight would do it I guess -

we could use the direct chat as a whisper chat working only in a very very short range....the group chanel would be what the direct chat is right now.....the vehicle chat could work as a cb radio allowing communication between vehicles..the side chat would be only for contacting the admins... just an idea.... -

ok since it seems a bit difficult to understand my sarcasm... in my eyes there are some ingame mechanics that makes things too easy for clans which leads to a more battlefield stylish gameplay ...as I said before, clans are very often hiding their vehicles outside the map and they mostly can pick up their killed members directly when they respawn at the beach with their vehicles ( sometimes helis)...this way they are able to save their gear or to get it back from their own dead bodies very easy.... so death is not a real penalty for them.....of course the game should reward teamplay but it should be fair and ballanced... -

...isn't it ironic...don't you think... OF COURSE it should not be possible to spawn near a squadleader...in fact we have to find ways to make it even more difficult for clans...for example we need borders around Chernorus to stop them hiding vehicles in the middle of nowhere outside of the regular map -

I agree we should make it even more easier for clans ...let them spawn all together at the beach , maybe give them some nice clan starter gear ( some sniper riffles and stuff)....dying is not a problem anyway ..call your heli via team speak to pick you up at the beach and bring you back into action...oh stop ..maybe it should be possible to spawn near the squadleader.... -

that is the world of DayZ ..probably you and your diary will just rot somewhere in the northern woods...but hey you don't have to write one...that's the point...finding the diary of a survivor would be probably a pretty rare but epic event...you could also write some sick stuff about your underwear and your cholera...whatever...it would be perfect if you could attach notes to a wall or post..maybe warnings for other players...the possibilities are endless...but of course as always... just my 2 cents -

as far as I remember this feature has been discussed before ( was even promised for the game that shall not be named)....It would simply add a lot more space for creativity...would be epic to find a diary on a dead body and then to read his or her story....or imagine at the end of your DayZ day you could sit at the campfire and write everything down what has happened.... or what's about doing your own radio ( like radio wasteland in Fallout 3).... -

if anyone gets the chance to ask...will we able to write notes ingame ...this is possible even in minecraft and would add so much to the game...you would be able to find maybe diaries...or treasure maps...or you could leave notes for your team mates...or any other kind of sick shit :) -

other open world games like The Elder Scrolls or Fallout use so called woldspaces ...every big landmass or area has its own worldspace and you can travel between them using teleporting scripts...such new worldspaces can be added by addons or mods...not a real problem..but can the arma engine handle such stuff and would the servers be able to handle it..I mean connecting maybe 3 maps would perhaps mean 150 players instaed of 50 playing on one server.... -

it could go like this....a mod like Namalsk ( for example) could place some broken sailingboats in Chernorus along the coast...this boats would spawn randomly like other vehicles but would not be functional in their usual way...if the player can manage to repair one of them he will be able to enter this boat and decide to leave Chernorus...for example when activating the boat he would be asked "would you like to sail to Namalsk?" if agreed the player would be logged out and the game would be saved, but instead of the players current position in Chernorus the script would save a spawnpoint location on Namalsk...now the player could join a Namalsk server and would spawn on Namalsk with his current char including all gear and stuff he had back in Chernorus....going back to Chernorus would work the same way.... of course the mod server has to be conncted to the main hive.... -

my dream of an "endgame" ist to explore new maps on my way to find a safe place ...means the maps should be connected via travel scripts... -
even the probably best zombie survival story out there "Day by Day Armageddon" uses some alien stuff...just wanted to say...

since this is discussed here... @sunnz Taviana looks and feels like a model railway landscape...no question it is well done it is big and has some nice new buildings and structures...but it is boring like hell...nearly no sign of an apocalypse and really not enough zombies spawning for such a large world...don't get me wrong I do not want to blame the mod author for this...but creating such huge cities like on Taviana is just creating a showcase of your modding skills ..it would need tons of clutter and hundreds or maybe even thousands of zombies to make this feel a real zombie apocalypse...no question this would melt down any computer system....so in my eyes a pretty bad concept and an example how it not should be... I prefer a city like Cherno with maybe only hundred but enterable buildings , lods of infected and a real apocalypse feeling, than such Potemkin villages you can find for example on Taviana. just my two cents PS: for me Chernarus is probably the best open world map ever made in gaming history (even without the improvments being made) Quote MultiQuote Edit -

We are now commencing work on the redevelopment of the infected people (zombie) models themselves. This will be an exciting area of work for our artist who is dedicated to this task. Initially we will be producing male and female, I would like to look at the possibility of children infected - but there are technical (required new skeleton and baked animations), possible legal (rating issues), and even moral (shooting children) issues that need to be faced. ...I would say females will be included.... for the children....I think there are too many barns in the game.... -
A not-announcement announcement for the forums!
Private Evans replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
I am playing and modding games since more than 20 years now and if I have learnt something, especially as a modder, during this long time.....people like you are never pleased and will never be pleased, in fact people like you are driving talented people away from modding or developing games and people like you even can destroy entire communities....people like you do not discuss aspects of the gameplay or give any creative input...people like you prefer to count bugs or whine about bad graphics or for not being informed properly or for Rocket not using the arma 3 engine for the SA..... this sucks so much !! we will get no screenshots or technical details and we will have to wait longer for the SA than expected BUT we will get a proper game right from the start and not just a polished version of the mod.... if you are not pleased...complain to Sergej Titov the guy who has burnt an entire new business model (minecraft model) of game developing....- 254 replies

A not-announcement announcement for the forums!
Private Evans replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
at the beginnining the devs just wanted to create a polished version of the mod and then start adding new (fun) stuff later on...at some point this autumn when they had tweaked the game engine for their needs they realized that they could do so much better ... I would say at this time the real SA was born...so no need to hurry... cheers -
don't we all share the same dream...a nice and cosy base somewhere on Taviana...low zombie spawns...friendly players only and a fully equipped medic team around every corner...maybe...some little ponies to play with...

 it is an BI game so they are using of course the BI sources....in fact they have written something like their own engine for the SA based on the "Take on helicopters" engine which is based on the A2 engine, but also added new stuff as well from A3 where needed....we could even call it DayZ Stand Alone Engine V.1.0 ...of couse the basic look and graphics will be the same as in the mod but I guess we'll have a good chance to get a better lighting and weather system in the future...don't know about new shaders and textures...however.... this is the look of the virtual reality engine...and I really like it :)
