yap this has been discussed a while ago and I would love to see this implemented ..imagine you meet another player and see his getting the shakes ( like in the Book of Eli) -
please read the op first thx :)

And then you arrive to the problem where the base "owner" will never log on to keep the base 100% safe. You cannot give an offline protection to something that remains permanently in the game world, it's not fair to those who are playing while you are not, the game should give priority to those who are playing, not those who aren't. This is good point and thats why I suggested to use a simple timer script to check player activity inside the base ( such a script could check the time frame of player activity and also the number of players that have been active inside ) If there is no or not enought player activity inside, the base would be abandonned ( simulating that it was not guarded for a too long time) The base would be open for everyone and zombies and loot would start spawning again....

as far as I remember Rocket said that this will be in :) -
It is really sad to see that people just can think black or white ..."An easy way to build bases" means only one way how large bases could ( easily) work using predefined structures. I never said this is the only way that bases/camps/fortification should be handled in the SA. I also like the idea of underground bases and I also would like to see constructing mechanics to build temporary camps or to fortify buildings and stuff. But if we are really talking about bases for something like endgame scenarios, places that would require teamwork, scenarios where large groups would try to restore civilisation..places that medics or military units could use for rollplaying, then it would be a pain in the ass if we could place only some shitty barricades that can easily be deconstructed or destroyed. NO one would be that stupid and spend a whole day with constructing a base just to find it destroyed and looted next time he joins the game...sorry but this does not make any sense !!!!!! We would end up again with clans and bandits hiding their stuff in tents on different servers and parking their vehicles and helicopters far beyond the playable map ...which really sucks !!!! If people would read the the op more carefully they would understand that I am not talking about 100% safe bases . There should be of course ways and tactics to attack and overtake such places and there should also be a time limit for how long this bases could stay safe without player activity. But attacking and overtaking this places should only be possibe when players are inside the camp and not when everybody is offline and has no chance to defend it. Also I am not talking about dozens of bases placed all over the map...only a very few structures that also has been suggested and discussed here : http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/122076-huge-structures-in-dayz-sa/ I am pretty sure that if not a few huge structures in the SA ( this includes instanced and underground bases) will provide safety for your stuff while being offline, we will never see something like an endgame happening ! Edit : finding a safe place is one of the main aspects of all zombie novels and movies . in " Day by Day Armageddon" written by J.L Bourne the survivors use a Titan missile launch facility as their base...and guess what..it is safe inside (booooooooo) ;)

honestly...people like Bushlurker, Mondkalb or Sumrak ( arma modding community members) for example would make more sense for testing than youtube heroes..just my two cents -
why do people never read the op ?? Predefined bases or structures would be built by using static fences, walls and buildings etc which can not be decunstructed or destroyed The only way to get in is through the entrance which can be locked. This way gear and vehicles would be safe inside the bases. This is one of the main aspects of the the whole thing. As I stated one then more time " a base that can easily be destroyed and lootetd as soon as the owners are offline is more or less useless" Remember that the reason why the discussion about the modifiable static structures sprung up is because it would be guaranteed to cause the smallest performance hit on the server compared to the other construction options outside of instancing, which is very important Predefined structures would use mainly statics ..that's the point

We are still talking about different things. I agree that some advanced construction mechanics would be very cool to fortify a house, block an entrance or to temporary fortify any place you want. BUT sorry this is not what I Imagine for an endgame scenario and for possible rollplaying . In this case predefined structures like suggested would work a lot better as "bases" than temporary camps and hideouts that could easily be destroyed and looted as soon as the "owner" goes offline.

Customization for DayZ Standalone
Private Evans replied to Gray Wolf's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I want to play as Clementine :P -
I think having 4 or 5 predefined camps could work fine together with underground bases and some advanced constructing mechanics for temporary hideouts/camps. Larger groups could overtake some of the bases, other players would prefer to go underground or just fortify a location to repair their heli or to make their stand against some other clan..... Key sytems would work fine for a prison :) ...important thing is that players always must have a chance to attack and overtake a base

If you are a lonsome wolf living in the woods infected with cholera and typhus you are forced to search hospitals or other medical facilities for antibiotics....or you have to get it somehow from other players....this is what I mean ...complex needs keep you busy, which will lead automatically to more social interactions because there is always a high chance to meet other players at specific locations. Since the zeds will be a much greater threat in the SA you will find yourself (even as a lone wolf) probably more often teaming up with some strangers to loot the next hospital or general store...no need for joining a clan or squad that means :) In the mod you gear up and that's it. You could spend days and weeks in the woods without having to go into dangerous places.Fighting other players is the only thing left. This will change radically in the SA because of the complex needs. People will be subtle forced to spend their time with surviving instead of seraching only for vehicles and the next gun fight. -
:D Preset areas will be known to everyone. This is BAD. Of course preset areas are known to everyone after some time but this is not a problem since this bases are meant for bigger groups, squads and clans. Everybody knows where Devils Castle is and that it is used by bandits most of the time. Such places could become market places, hospitals or even monasteries. Your gear isn't supposed to be safe. Gear would not be completely safe since this bases could be attacked and overtaken. Also squads would not need to park their helis and cars far beyond the playable map anymore which really sucks. You should be able to barricade anything you want. (new base/existing building etc.) For me this would be still temporary fortified places and no real bases, but I can't see why both things could not work together nicely :beans:

The more complex and realistic the needs and threats are the more diversity we will get regarding long-term gameplay. Even if you are well geared there should always be something that you will need next very soon...specific antibiotics..batteries...new boots...vitamin pills etc. This again will force players to check specific and maybe dangerous locations more often or even to team up with other players. -

People still do not understand that this is a survival scenario which is far more than getting some cans of beans, some medical supplies and a big gun. Every minute should be a challenge ...no more sunny afternoon shoot outs on the NW airfield because there is nothing else to do.... -

Rocket said in the video that they spawn 3000 zeds atm and that they will most likely be able to spawn more in the future, so who knows maybe we will see something between 5 and 7 thousand. Beside this not every place has to be swarmed by zombies, this would be really boring ( one point I never liked in the mod).. Sometimes it is much more scary to find a completely abandonned place..no zeds,..no sound..being scared by your own shadow :). Last but not least we should keep in mind that the zed population on the map will be more dynamic...empty villages could be swarmed by zeds some time later etc. -

Thx god Rocket is creating this game not for casual gaming CoD kids. PvP will always be a big part of the game but it will defenetely not be the main aspect of the SA ! For example The Walking Dead game by Telltales was such a huge success because people are bored of playing the same stupid crappy shooting games again and again. -

I mean looting your own body is a real immersion killer and should be fixed somehow before we discuss other aspects of player death... -
@ Chabowski.. Ok... deconstructing barricades, fences and stuff and then using it somewhere else to fortify a camp sounds of course a lot better than using crappy barbed wire and tank traps. But for me this would still be a temporary camp and not a real base. Building a base that is not safe (at least for some time) is just a waste of time. I am also still pretty sure that your construction mechanics would be used a lot for trolling. Predefined camps like decribed in my op would (also) cause no server lags but would povide a relative safe place for your gear (vehicles) even when being offline. This camps could be attacked and overtaken though or would be automatically abandonned if there is no player activity noticed by the game for a longer time period. There would be no chance for camping, trolling and placing barricades at stupid locations all over the map just for fun ! Beside this, predefined bases would mean having some extra hot spots and provide immersive locations for rollplaying. If not used, this places would be just normal locations spwaning loot and zombies. But as always this is a matter of personal taste and preferencies :) cheers :beans:

As long as we can loot our own dead bodies and place tents full of gear on several servers the name of our char shouldn't be something we have to care about. -
@ Chabowski Building bases using barbed wire, tank traps and sandbags would make no sense and cause only problems. Large camps would of course require tons of resources and even if you could manage to build a camp this way it would not be safe...barbed wire, tank traps and sandbags do not stop zombies (barbed wire does not stop vehicles) and even if the devs would fix that every other player would be able to remove you barricades using a toolbox. You could not store your gear or park your vehicles inside your base without loosing everything when going offline. Such a camp would make no sense. Zombies and loot would of course still spawn inside large camps and we would end up with hundreds of idiots building fences and barricades around Stary Sobor military camp and the NW airfield barracks :(

There should be a music system like in Lord of the Rings online, where you were able to play an instument of your choosing. Or at least a guitar animation like in Stalker :) the game could pick random guitar tunes from a list ..

I would like to see the crouch sliding :) used in I44 mod, eating, drinking, cooking and playing guitar anims ...and scuba diving
