BI are you still working on infected smashing/open doors?
Private Evans replied to Bannerlord pls's topic in General Discussion
There is no need for such an animation..the way vehicles function in the game right now, they should consider adding ejection seats and para animations instead. -

Things have beens...different here since the very beginning... Dean Hall prefered to discuss things on Reddit at the very beginning but Lead Artist Chris Torchia and also Matt Lightfoot were very active here on the forums. Things got so much better and organized then with Brian Hicks, providing Trello, Dev Blogs and also being active on the forums and social media in general. Not to forget at that time devs were also actively playing the game...communicating with the playerbase..This time was also DayZ's prime time on YT. With Brian Hicks gone most of the Devblogs were just about " please be patient the future of DayZ will be amazing once the new engine is completely implemented". Finally with the massive shitstorm after releasing V. 1.0 two years ago, BI went more or less radio silent....except for their celebration trailors and changelogs that is xD

my friends and me are still talking about all the epic moments that we shared playing the mod...
-
I never looked into DayZ modding, is it possible to open and edit the different pbo's and configs like it is in Arma ?
-
Probably they copied or bought some outdated tech from bethesda...they are famous for their bad lighting and using coloured filters xD
-
Yeah second screeenshot could also be from Arma 3 Chernarus CUP maps 2.0...and again...the lighting of the last pre Enfusion version was the best we ever had...day and especially night lighting... and the list goes on 😕
-
I don't get it why they not simply use Altis and Tanoa . Altis would be perferct for vehicle gameplay since it is really large, while Tano would provide a complete new setting including a huge modern city with Office buildings and stuff ....maybe things like tropical desease could be also added for Tanoa, while hydration would be a big thing on Altis...

2000 Zombies in a Heavily infested Cherno - DayZ Horror Movie
Private Evans replied to liquidcactus's topic in Gallery
The sad thing is...I really expected DayZ to be that way some day...a shame they never put really much work and thoughts into the Infected 😞 -
I have to admit that I am playing vanilla only never being a great fan of dayZ mods except new maps. I was only speculating generally, that if Arma 4 will feature next gen tech a DayZ mod could be probably be much better than the original game. About features...I can not see that much amazing features right now in the current game...I think survial mechanics, loot systems and crafting systems have been done a lot now since Arma 2...so no problem I guess, a medical system will be in anyway and a new basebuilding system could not not be more unimmersive than it is now, not to speak from vehicles....It all furter depends on what the final engine will provide... this is a very good point though !!

Arma 4 or an Arma like title running on Enfision engine will require proper vehicle physics, ragdoll , enemy AI and of course a good and stable MP system. A new Arma title has also of course to overcome the many shortcomings of the Arma series that have been in the game since OFP and definetely bring new elements on the table. Let's assume BI will bring all the good stuff for Arma 4 only without updating current DayZ ...all kind of vehicles, overhauled AI, ragdoll and physics...melee, next gen lighting...improved weather...dynamic snow...underground structures.. etc etc etc... It would take only a short time before someone would create a DayZ/Zombie/Survival mod for Arma 4. Who the fuck would then still play DayZ except for console players ???? thoughts ?

They have to fix such things if they ever want to release a new Arma game.
-
What a bullshit....the pictures shown are from the next coming Arma 3 Creator DLC which was postponed and will come out in 2021. The dlc is based on a cold war scenario and taken place in the former Czechoslovakia. Taking about the engine ...the announced work on physics and server optimization is clearly part of the ongoing work on the enfusion engine. BI can not develop any new game on this engine, especially not an Arma game without having proper vehicle gameplay. I don't have a clue if this means they are doing things from scratch or trying to implement Arma 3 tech into the Enfusion engine. However having these things fixed will be also a great thing for DayZ. Also DayZ dev team stated it again and again..that they are going to fix and polish this game and add missing content if possible but that we cannot expect new content. If we will see any then I expect to see some of the promised vehicles like helicopters and stuff. Would make sense since they have to test it anyway. This leaves us with the question what else will be in the new enfusion engine...new lighting system and shaders, new weather systems providing stuff like dynamic snow for example, destroyable buildings and terrain...new AI for allies and enemies....terrain features like proper rivers streams and waterfalls...plattform crossplay and how much of the new tech will be implemented in dayZ for testing xD One thing is sure though there will be no DayZ 2 for decades if ever xD

What would make a Dayz perfect game?
Private Evans replied to kevo1414's topic in General Discussion
I am sorry to say but this is a legacy of the responsible devs which took over project lead after Brian. The Crafting system that we allready had in the game was absolutely fine and not only that, I really loved the plans they had back then to implement workbenches for crafting, a system comparable to the one in Metro Exodus. Same goes for lootboxes..a system that you can find, I belive in every open world game..same thing... instead of implementing a system combined of open world loot placement and lootboxes...they went for placing objects directly in the gameworld only...which is boring and everything else than immersive. The medical system we had was amazing....we could write notes...paintspray our weapons... The only thing that brought me back was seeing Sumrak taking over..and I really hope that he will be able not only to overcome the technical issues but also to bring back the gameplay mechanics that we already had working and maybe also a few of those that were planned like workbenches, barricading and contaminated zones... PS: and please bring back the old crafting system.... -
Broken Nutrition/Hydration mechanics
Private Evans replied to Private Evans's topic in General Discussion
I don't think that it is such of a problem and difficult to get it right. In fact there are even just two things that have to be corrected to provide a proper, fair and more realistice hunger/thirst experience. 1. lowering the amount of hydration when eating fruits, mushrooms and canned food. 2. extending the time before a player finally dies of starvation and instead add some penalties for being low on calories -
Since the latest patches really have improved the game and brought back some badly missed content and mechanics, me and a few other old time fans of the mod would like to give the game a new chance and try again. BUT after a few days of testing and trying and searching for a good server we came to the conclusion that the Nutrition/Hydration (hunger/thirst) mechanics are completely broken. - The Nutrition level drops much faster than the hydration level which is absolutely nonsense and should be exactly the other way round. - Drinking is not really needed since eating fruits , mushrooms and stuff like tuna and sardines also restores yours hydration level which of course is ok but not up to a level that is above your nutrition level which then again sinks a lot faster - In fact drinking water is highly dangerous when having lets say the nutrition level on yellow, this instantly brings it down to red - puking in that scenario is a pure death sentence since it needs you to drink water to hydrate again which then instantly drops your nutrition level to a point where it is nearly impossible to recover as long you are not well equipped and geared. for new players especially on public servers this absolutely destroys the game....finding not much loot after spawning combined with these mechanics is a nightmare when trying to team up and dying of hunger again and again and again 😞 is there anything planned to fix/ballance this ?? PS: speaking of vanilla gameplay this is 🙂 no mods and 2x loot etc

Hmmm on one side they would have to redo all the interiors for working with a next gen lighting system which of course is a serious amount of work but on the other side people will expect some better graphical quality when buying games for their new consoles I am not a console player but if I would by a console in 2020/2021 I would be pissed if my games would still look like being from 10 years ago. Also this would be maybe a good test for new tech coming with the Enfusion engine...one can dream xD
-
Yeah and BI having plans to release DayZ on the new consoles will hopefully make them improve the game a lot more than maybe planned originally.
-
BI is famous for supporting and improving its games for years and they would be fools if the would stopp it here for DayZ, since this game is not only really successful again, but even has a lot potential for more sales on the new consoles. Next gen consoles means next gen quality games, so BI has to improve this game if they want to launch it on the next generation PS and XBox. As much as this game has improved over the last two years and as much fun it is even now to play...this game is far away from being next gen standart. The most pressing issues, they talked about it in their op, are server performance/synchronization and proper physics. But there are also for example a lot of horrible outdated low rez textures left over, as well as a lot of old low detailed Arma 2 modells. Not to speak about the completely outdated lighting system, which I have to admit still can look amazing out in the open world but looks absolutely horrible inside of buildings compared to modern tech and games. We also should keep in mind that most of BI devs ( inluding the majority of the Arma team and for sure some of the former DayZ devs) are working on the enfusion engine right now. The engine change two years ago , only brought us a first and very basic version of BI's future engine, far away from being finished. With Arma 4 most likely not being around the next corner and looking at DayZ's current success and plans for the next gen consoles I really think that DayZ players will benefit big time from this situation and new tech being worked on for the enfusion engine. With maybe being released on 5 plattforms DayZ seems to be at least for now a temporary flagship for BI. Like it or not it is all about consoles again but as long as we benefit from new tech and improvments to the game it is all good xD

Broken Nutrition/Hydration mechanics
Private Evans replied to Private Evans's topic in General Discussion
Thx guys this is what I am talking about, a game mechanic can be broken or unballanced but the game still works by finding all kind of workarounds. But this is not the way ! Simply calling the broken mechanics unforgiving and being proud of finding workarounds and exploits is not what I consider good gameplay. For example the hypothermia mechanic is really nice, it really effects your character without simply killing you after half an hour of running in the rain. Nutrition should work the same way..the character should suffer for along time before dying of starvation.Reduced stamina, strength, health recovery etc. should then force you to take more risks. For example having a low energy level would make it impossible to carry a heavy backback or to outrun the infected. A grumbling stomach would make sneaking a lot more difficult etc. Of course finding not enough food should be deadly at some point then. Hydration is some other kind of beast and of course will even kill you after a relative short time, but this seems to be very well ballanced by the big amount of water sources which do not depend on loot lists. Which brings me to another mechanic that seems unballanced but also belongs in some way to the hunger/thirst gameplay. Puking...it really is a good mechanic to punish you for desperately drinking from unsafe water sources...but again it is completely overdone and not realistic. Puking instantly and bringing your hydration and nutrition level nearly to zero is nonsense and again bad gameplay...you should suffer consequences but again it should take some time and give you at least a small chance to reach a better water source. Maybe puking more often which makes you of couse defensless and hearable..combined with grumbling stomach and visual penalties.... Again, the hypothermia mechanic is a good example in which direction the hunger and thirst gameplay should be changed and tweaked. -
Broken Nutrition/Hydration mechanics
Private Evans replied to Private Evans's topic in General Discussion
Don't get me wrong I do appriciate people joining the discussion and trying to help. But thing is I am not looking for help, talking about spawnrates or survival stratgies. I am not dying instantly on every run I do, but after testing the game after a long time now, I am under the impression that the Hydration/Nutriton system is broken or at least massive unballanced. This is not a game breaking thing of course but I find it very annoying and also everything else than realstic. Since I found most people not really understanding what I am talking about I made 3 test runs tonight that should cleary prove that dehydration and starvation completely works the wrong way and quiet the contrary to how it is in RL and how it should work ingame too. 1. test : vanilla server, usual starter gear, lying on the grass at the coast and not moving at all , no eating and no drinking nutrition icon (apple) went down to yellow, red and then flashing until I died of starvation after around 30 minutes while the hydration icon (bottle) remained white until the end 2. test: vanilla server, usual starter gear, constantly jogging with no break, no eating and no drinking hydration icon went to yellow first, shortly followed by the nutrition icon, then the nutrition icon went red, then flashing..till I died of starvation after around 25 minutes with the hydration icon still being yellow 3. test : vanilla server, usual starter gear, constantly pressing the sprint button ( sprinting and jogging) without a break, no eating, no drinking hydration icon went yellow first, then the nutrition icon went yellow also, then red and then began flashing, after it was empty flashing for a while the hydration icon went red also, seconds later I died of starvation after around 15 minutes with the hydration icon being red but not empty or flashing. This clearly shows that the nutrition level drops much too fast compared to the hydration level. It should be exactly the other way round. Having then fruits and vegetables etc give you such a big hydration boost (which is realistic) would then also make much more sense then now. As I said this is not game breaking but under bad conditions like high populated servers, a bad spawn point, a lot of hoarded food etc, it is no fun especially if you do not have that much time to play or if you are a new player. Last but not least, compared to how easy the endgame is once you are well fed and have found some decent gear it would be not a bad idea anyway to reduce the pace at the start and to add some more difficulty to the endgame beside PVP.... cheers 🙂 -
Broken Nutrition/Hydration mechanics

So here is what I just did to give it a fair test no sprinting, no crouch sprinting, no fighting etc allowed just jogging to keep the temperature up no gear, no weapons, only swapped the shirt against a pristine jacket after a few minutes food/drinks : only a pear in my inventory and a green peeper I found on the way started jogging... after some time the hydration symbol went to yellow, shortly followed by the nutrition symbol I stopped to eat the pear waited abround 30 seconds and both symbols went back to white..... went on jogging again.... short after that the nutrition symbol went yellow again...but not follwed by the hydration symbol waited a few minutes , stopped and ate the green pepper both symbols showed arrows up but the nutrition symbol did not go back to white but stayed yellow kept on jogging... after a while the nutrition went red ....the hydration stayed white... kept on jogging.... finally when the nutrition symbol was empty and started flashing the hydration symbol went yellow but also stood yellow until I died of starvation exactly after 30 minutes...... is this intended ???? -
Broken Nutrition/Hydration mechanics
Private Evans replied to Private Evans's topic in General Discussion
Ok, if I understand correctly, with this patch, they tweaked the graphic presentation of the the hydration and nutrition so that it better matches the corresponding level of your character . Sounds good to me but they must have broken something along the way. As I said before, the nutrition level drops too fast compared to the hydration level. Drinking water is not needed at all as long as you eat fruits, vegetables and even canned stuff like sardines. Drinking water even makes the whole thing worse since it adds an overdone boost to the general nutrition loss. In all of my test runs. I died of starvation, not once of dehydration, in fact my hydration level never went down to red exept for one time when my char puked. Just to make it clear, I did about 30 test runs, playing as a freshspawn on different public, vanilla servers (Chernarus only) and it was the same for every run. Not to speak of my friends that experienced the same and stopped playing, completely annoyed after two evenings. I personally like the item spawn system as it is now, that canned food and stuff is more rare and that you have to find fruits , mushrooms or to hunt chickens ( if you are lucky enough to find matches to get a fire going), but as it is right now it stands for me that this system is either broken or needs a lot of tweaking. It might be ok on private servers, it might be ok for existing characters and it might be ok for clans and groups or people in general that have built camps etc. but for players like me that just want to have a nice evening of playing DayZ with some friends it is only annoying the way it is now...which really is a shame because the game really has improved a lot thx to Sumrak 🙂 however thx to Exxoduss and Fanboy...as it seems this is a known problem, so there is hope...thx to the rest too for telling me how awesome you all are in playing this game even if this was not the question in the first place .... -
this absolutely ....the new engine is and always has been far far away from being completed not to speak from being completed as a next gen engine. The main thing that the new engine brought on the table was making the game run on stable 60 FPS .Other stuff like the new sound system and more was simply imported from Arma 3 and would have also worked with the old engine. The current zombie spawn system is not much different to what we had in the mod and also would have worked with the old engine. The lighting system is still outdated as fuck and for exactly that reason the map does not look and feel dramatically better than before. I know without the new engine we never would have seen 60 FPS and smooth animations but on the other side we should all remember how much content and progress was lost...two years of hard work for the devs now after 1.0 release just to bring back most but still not all of the old content, knowing that we will never see a lot more that was not only promised but also already shown to us...also not to speak about vehicles that will not work properly before the finished the engine completely...when ever that will be.... So for me it really looks like the main reason for the engine change at a time the game was nearly there, was to make it run on consoles. I leave it to everyone's imagination how the game would/could look like today if the they had continued to work on the game for the last 4 years instead of starting all over again ... so yeah that much for consoles xD

Ok after reading Sumraks Namalsk devblog for January I think we finally will get a proper character status/health gameplay this year. This changes will, as far as I understand, be made by Sumrak himself so that he also will then be able to progress with Namalsk ( which is honestly the only thing that keeps me interested ). This is really good news...
