That"s why they want to implement stealth mechanics...imagine the thrill sneaking through a huge bunch of infect aka zombie horde :)
-
But seriously...why not using a system that simulates a few thousand zeds on the map ( this includes movment, respawn etc etc) but spawn them only in to the game world when players are around like the Arma 3 Allive mod does just more simple :) This way we would have maybe a max of 1500 zeds ingame at the same time(on a packed 50 players server) which the engine should be able to handle.... Locations could still be without zeds for different reasons....

bunch of infected ?

Clearing this up: DayZ is NOT years afterwards
Private Evans replied to bobotype3334's topic in General Discussion
Exactly my point and I don"t think this is good ! Of course "this is your story" and all but I think some official basic lore is absolutely required. for example : 1. DayZ is taking place in an alternative timeline (2013) of the Armaverse after the events in Chernarus (Arma2) For those who still dont know it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ARMA_2 2. Chernarus beeing an ex Soviet state bordered by Russia and Takistan http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/52/ArmA2_Chernarus_factbook_map.jpg 3. Chernarus being the place where the infection started... 4. some background about the virus...thx to Fluxley for digging this out 5. DayZ playing a few weeks after the complete collapse in Chernarus.... 6. Refugees from Chernarus fleeing to Russia and Takistan and reordered UN forces could have brought the infection to other countries...status unknown would be enough to make things look a bit more locical but also would leave more than enough space for unique stories and interpretations cheers -
Oh ok sorry no more intellectually stimulating discussions ....we need more topics about guns and vehicles...I can see that

Prions can be transmitted by eating contaminated food , getting contaminated blood transfusions, probably smear infections and as it seems even airborne In our case we are of course speaking about a fictive, mutated version (highly contageous, short incubation period) Now take a look at the symptoms of prion deseases ( like CJD), add excessive violent and aggressive behaviour and you are nearly there B) The first symptom of CJD is rapidly progressive dementia, leading to memory loss, personality changes and hallucinations. Other frequently occurring features include anxiety, depression, paranoia, obsessive-compulsive symptoms, and psychosis.[10] This is accompanied by physical problems such as speech impairment, jerky movements (myoclonus), balance and coordination dysfunction (ataxia), changes in gait, rigid posture, and seizures. The duration of the disease varies greatly, but sporadic (non-inherited) CJD can be fatal within months or even weeks.[citation needed] In some people, the symptoms can continue for years. In most patients, these symptoms are followed by involuntary movements and the appearance of an atypical diagnostic electroencephalogram tracing. Most victims die six months after initial symptoms appear, often of pneumonia due to impaired coughing reflexes. About 15% of patients survive for two or more years.[11] Some patients have been known to live 4–5 years with mostly psychological symptoms until the disease progresses causing more physical symptoms leading to a diagnosis and inevitable death usually within the first year of diagnosis.

The background of the outbreak seems to be a prion desease ( not a virus) Prion diseases are associated with the build up in the brain (and some other organs) of an abnormal or ‘rogue’ form of a naturally occurring cellular protein, known as the prion protein. The rogue protein results from a change in shape of the normal prion protein. Once formed in the body these rogue proteins recruit and convert more of the normal prion protein into the abnormal form, setting off a kind of chain reaction which leads to a progressive accumulation of the rogue protein. In the normal course of events, once they have served their purpose, prion proteins are broken down by enzymes in the body. The abnormal prions however are more resistant to this process; so they accumulate and cause damage in the brain, which interferes with normal brain functioning. All forms of the disease are thought to be associated with an incubation period. This is a clinically 'silent phase' during which replication of the rogue protein is thought to be taking place. The function of the normal form of the protein remains unclear, though it is thought they may possibly play a role in the transport of messages between specific brain cells (synaptic transmission). Quote DEAN HALL PRESENTS A USECFORCE PRODUCTION On 12 March 2013, a prion disease and spreads among the worlds population triggering a global pandemicThe disease causes proteins in the brain to be replaced with prions ceasing regular functionMost people progress to dementia and then death as the brain is replaced with ineffective sludge86% of the worlds population dieSome survive with the disease in a chronic state. Lacking regular brain function, they are scarely human. They are unable to communicate, driven by insatiable desire for violence, and attracted to the scent of those uninfectedSociety crumbles as the pandemic spreads rapidlyYou are one of the 2% who are not infected yet THIS IS YOUR STORY So yes animals could be affected...maybe most of the farm animals have also died or have been killed...maybe some animals would show rage symtoms like our zeds... :)

Really Good Idea For Gas Masks (Please Look Dev's)
Private Evans replied to WuBz_Da_Boss's topic in Suggestions
Zelenogorsk and Kabanino bases are too much I think...would like to see them removed... -
I kinda feel that chernarus needs to be "blown up"

Instead of enlarging the existing map they should begin looking for ways to link different maps using the same hive. Would be nice to have a game mechanic that allows traveling between different maps using the same character. -
....and give us a proper jump/fall landing anim please :)

thx for not showing us how helmet guy became a Zuccini :P

In this case I am hoping for a soon implementation of world containers. This will help a lot with performance and stuff since a good amount of loot would not be spawned in the gameworld anymore. Will also make looting more interesting...

different ground textures may act as "containers" for basic materials (aka berry picking mechanic)

when they also add crimean sparkling wine you can call yourself a dev :P -

Does not digging for woms, collecting stones, twigs and grass work exactly the way you have suggested ? :) -
Objects and their impact on everything - effects detached from us players
Private Evans replied to joe_mcentire's topic in General Discussion
Each item in this game is its own entity not attached to the player anymore having its own unique stats (pristine- ruined damp wet soaked and maybe contaminated at some point) I guess this means that it also is possible to destroy or damage items outside of inventories or world containers. The question is how to implement...I think doing it via the crafting system would be a cool way...specific items could also be made flamable ( tents, player made structures or plants), others could be used as throwing weapons like cans, stones and bottles. -
This is the stone circle on Altar Hill...it is been there since the first version of SA...to the west there is also a small new castle ruin including some old ruined houses (very creepy place) and a place some call Zed Creek ... :)

Since the new devblog mentions configuration work on "Prion Disesase" I am wondering if a mutated Prion Disease could be the cause for the outbreak in our scenario ? Prion diseases are associated with the build up in the brain (and some other organs) of an abnormal or ‘rogue’ form of a naturally occurring cellular protein, known as the prion protein. Is this the idea/background Dean has spoken about long time ago ? A Prion ieasese like BSE but highly contagious and having some kind of "Rage Virus" effects caused by the brain damage .... for me this sounds really exciting :)

Prion Disease = " Zombie infection" ?
Private Evans replied to Private Evans's topic in General Discussion
In this case it is all more about gameplay and immersion and not so much realism. -

Oh thx played the mod nearly right from the start but never noticed this :D However I think Kuru is called brain disease in the game files now ...prion disesae seems to be something new. -
"do you have an invisible gun?"...that was so funny :D

Cannibalism - Lets make it USEFUL
Private Evans replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
To be hoenest this would indeed belong to our scenario as well as having children as players and zeds but for obvious reasons this will not happen. -
Cannibalism - Lets make it USEFUL
Private Evans replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
The devs could implement short periods of frost and mild snowfall to spice things up ...waterpumps would be frozen and it would not be possible to plant/harvest anything or dig for worms etc ( just an example) maybe have also a chance added for spawning wolves, and bears near settlements My dream is the devs would work on a season dlc for Chernarus instead of creating a new map in the future. Using time acceleration (x6) that would be awesome :) -

There was a (short) time we could eat or drink most of the mods here... The Notorious Can Incident anyone ? :P -
