So, I watched this video of a nuke being fired from the "Arma2, in all it's glory" thread: And it gave me an idea. Suppose the Zed continuously spawn all over the map. When their population reaches a certain number (say, 3000 for example) Chernarus is selected for a tactical nuclear strike to neutralize the growing zombie threat on the island. A nuke is launched, and we all ooh and ahh at the mushroom cloud before everyone dies and the server is reset. Everyone spawns on the beach, and all previously acquired gear/tents/vehicles are vaporized and reset. The only way to stop the server from resetting is by keeping the zed population in check. This would at least give us a reason to work together and to shoot the zed. Ok, so don't crucify me here. It's just a suggestion. What do you all think?

That's an interesting point. Perhaps it would be better that way anyway. The nukes blow up a few towns' date=' along with any survivors in the area, but does not wipe out the whole server. Once enough zed are killed, the strikes stop, and players can come out of hiding. *[NEW'] Bomb Shelter - Deployable structure that can be used to ride out nearby nuclear blasts (but not direct hits) From what I understand, the changes coming in the next patch are going to dramatically increase the number of both players and zed allowed per server. Again, I'm fairly confident that server hopping and DCing will not be part of the final game.

I broke my leg and survived it just last night. The story: I ran into a server hopper (named Loveshock) in the control tower of the NE Airfield. He had tried to block the entrance with barbed wire, but I just vaulted over it. When I saw him, he still had a bandit skin from when those were being given out. I immediately fired, and so did he. He died, but not before shooting me in the leg, breaking it. I crawled all the way to the hospital in Berezino, found THE LAST morphine in a medical box, healed my leg, and beat it back up north. I was so stoked.

If you don't do something just because you're afraid of griefers, then the griefers win. Their whole purpose is to find ways to ruin other people's fun. The only way to combat them is to keep having fun anyway.

Fair enough.

I agree with you in theory though, that there's too much "BLAM! You Are Dead." going on right now. My personal solution is to increase functionality of melee weapons, and decrease spawn rates of guns. A gun should be an extremely valuable find. Not something that you expect to get automatically. The super powerful assault rifles and sniper rifles should be rare as shit, and should make you a total badass if you manage to find one. Everyone running around with machine guns is kind of silly in my opinion. I also think there should be a weapon durability mechanic, so that you have to repair and maintain your guns in order to continue to use them.

How many times do you think you should be able to get shot by a sniper rifle before you die?

Does anyone have any screenshots of the leaderboards from when they were working the other week? I wanted to check something.

What's your personal alignment?

I'd have to say Chaotic good, but with a strong tendency towards neutral. If I recall correctly, I think that only unthinking creatures can be true chaotic neutrals. -
I agree with the OP. Guns and ammo currently make up the vast majority of content in the game. I think the focus should be shifted away from guns and pew-pew so that we can have a more interesting game.

I know what my pick is: Alice In Chains - Rooster What's yours?

When you find a sniper rifle...
Gravelsack replied to Gravelsack's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you think they should be removed from the game, start removing them from the game yourself. Grief the griefers. No one's gonna find them in the woods. Sure, they'll respawn, but it takes a little while. Put a bunch of cans in it's place. I've heard that stops items from respawning (Does it?) -

Are you guys making house calls right now? I could really use some morphine :( -

To be fair he did give a 2 hour interview yesterday where he talked at great length about the game.

That'll never work. I'm lactose intolerant.

When you find a sniper rifle...
Gravelsack replied to Gravelsack's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
What I mean is, if you are a 'friendly survivor' type, and you want to screw with 'bandit' type players, hide all the sniper rifles you find in the woods...just to fuck with them. I did this today with a m107 I found, and it made me smile. With my mouth. Like this: :) -

The melee weapon thread (ideas, loot suggestions etc.)
Gravelsack replied to Umbra (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I support the idea of knockback for certain weapons. I would also suggest that melee weapons either cause damage or knockback, but never both (or maybe only rarely both). I would think that blade weapons would not have a knockback, as they would tend to get stuck in their targets. I also support the idea of durability, with the ability to repair (possibly limit number of times that it could be repaired)
