    People shooting freshspawns

The problem is the apparent 'unwritten laws' of the game. Apparently it's wrong to shoot on sight or kill fresh spawns. Well... It really ain't? I mean, it sucks if your on the receiving end of some guy camping between Kamenka and Kamorovo, but people do what they want and you just got to find ways to avoid it or fight against it.

Bandits are guys that will pretty much **** your day up completly. A proper bandit will hold you up, take your gear, and leave you there with nothing but a broken leg. Guys who KoS? I don't mind. Guys like that are just cold killers really, don't matter who or what you are, your dead. They make it somewhat more challenging knowing there around, given you have gear of course. I expect standalone to bring in even more playstyles with it, as I expect people will now be factoring zombies among other things in their choices.
  3. Just like any running franchise or series, new features are added every year, as well as some shiny new paint job. Can polish the mod as much as you want. Polish a turd, it's still a turd. Not that I'm saying the mod is turd.. But you get my point!
  4. I rarely ever post here now purely because the amount of posts like this. There are negatives than postives on this forum, some I can understand, but it's a shame it's a more split community now than anything. For a start, anyone who rips into Rocket for his so called 'Holiday', needs to realise he is just as human as any of us. Going to Everest is not something that you just decide a week before. It takes months of planning, and a lot of money. As I've heard, apparently you have to sign yourself up to a list, and sometimes these people don't even get to make it. Taking that into consideration, pretty sure this was planned before a standalone game even seemed like a realistic idea. Secondly, anyone coming here complaining about the same thing, is wasting their time. So many posts that pretty much say the same thing. And to be honest? No one really cares if you have given up. They are still many of us that enjoy the mod and play it on a regular basis, and are more than content with the standalone taking as much times as it needs to be great (Hopefully..). Thirdly, anyone who continues to point to issues with the mod, is again wasting their time. The community has done a great job fixing flaws and other issues, but things like hackers are near to impossible to make them go away. At the end of the day, it's a mod, and for that reason, it will always be flawed. I can understand peoples anger, but at the same time, it's a game.. Theres a world out there, and Rocket is enjoying 'reality' right now.

    DayZ at "149 FPS"

Given how majority of server set the view distance at 1600m, I can only guess that your not one the 'real players'. Check your facts buddy. Anyone who sets it anything more than that trying to convince themselves that it gives them an advantage is fooling themselves. As I said, most servers limit the view distance. To play DayZ/ARMA II at a good quality FPS, you need a good processer. Even then, you can experience pretty poor FPS. I have a 3570K @ 4.2Ghz, 16GB RAM, x2 XFX 6870's Crossfire, and a Corsair Force GT 60GB SSD. Those are the main things that will affect performence. I average, with tweaks to both game, OS, and hardware, about 90-110 FPS in country side, 50-70 FPS in towns. I have recently bought an AverMeida Live Gamer HD that allows me to record in full 1080p with high settings and still get the same FPS. Would suggest getting one for those who like to record.

    Is Cherno based on Chernobyl?

"And this spot here is where I was betrayed and shot in the back of the head.." "And this spot here is where I rolled off the hospital roof.." "And this spot here... Ah, you get the point" B)

    Is Cherno based on Chernobyl?

Man, it feels cool seeing those pictures knowing you've been there in a game. I always think it's cool when game developers base the game of a real location that nobody is ever heard of such as Chernogorsk. It's like the map Celle that is based of a real german town I think, and a simple Wiki search shows you how accurate it is. As for Pripyat, I'd be really interested in going there. For some reason I've always been interested in in visiting places where incidents such as that or where natural disaters have taken place. I'd have to invest in a Ghille suit and put on my best Scottish accent first though obviously. B)

    Why banditing?

My question is.. Why not? B) As mentioned before, there really is a satisfaction in basically ridding a player of their hard earned gear, gathered over so many hours, in just a few seconds, knowing that they now have to start again. That or I'm just slightly wrong in the head? I purposely go looking for players, trouble, and fights now. That comes from a couple of months playing Wasteland, but it's much better than sneaking about, gathering gear for so many hours, only to die anyway. I'd rather grab an AK or Enfield and go run abouts like a mass killer.
  9. We did this once, setup tents, had a chopper, and even attempted to park a car on the back of fishing boat to carry it over which went incredibly bad. All spawed on the coast the next morning anyway. Lesson learnt.
  10. Or maybe he wants to record cinematic gameplay. Seriously, why does everyone have to be a **** and accuse people of hacking all the time..? Get real.

    Why always Russia

I thought Dead Island was actually a really good enviroment. A really nice looking tropical island hiding a sinister secret, and overrun by flesh eating zombies. All seemed to go hand in hand.
  12. My first kill was actually a dirty hacker. Even in my young days.. I was already cleaning up the place. B) He was dumb enough to spawn a weapons box in Cherno shop, and he was so in his own world making sure he had all the best gear. I found an Enfield in the back of the shop, come through to the front and kill him. Problem was, me being new to the game.. Temptation took over. Let's say I had to find another server in the end. Still, justice was served.

    Why always Russia

I've never played a game or seen a movie were it's always based in Russia or former soviet states. And quite simply, ARMA II is set in Chernarus. As DayZ is a mod of ARMA II, kind of self-explainitory. And to be honest, none of the other maps, to me anyway, feel anything like Russia. Tavania feels more like some modern Eastern European country, Panthera feels like it is set somewhere in South America or Africa, Celle, as far as I can remember, is actually based on a real town in Germany, Takistan is basically Afganistan/Pakistan, and Utes is also based off the original Arma. The only other map that feels Russian is Namalsk, which could be somewhere like Siberia. Waaay too many games go for the urban enviroment e.g. New York, LA, most recently L4D, which is all set in urban town enviroments like Pittsburgh and Missouri. Not to mention TV shows and films too e.g. The Walking Dead, Zombieland. The question really is.. Why always America?

    dayz original?

It's not perfect, but DayZ is as close as you will get to playing a game which represents survivng in a zombie infected country/world. Games like L4D, DI, or even CoD Zombies are really not zombie games, more like entertaining FPS shooters were for once no one is actually shooting back. They are all very streamlined, theres only ever one outcome. In DayZ, you could say there is also only ever one outcome, which like the rest, is death. But there are more factors to it with DayZ, more varitation, each day you play is completly different from the last. In DayZ, its you that can make the choice of who lives, who dies, where, when, and why. Not the game. That's why sandbox games like Arma/DayZ have become so successful, because if you want to do something, you can do it.
  15. I have done that a couple of times when I get on before peek times, when theres about 2 other players on the server, just put some music on and actually not have to look other your shoulder every 5 seconds. <_<

    5rnd .338 Lapua Magnum

There is actually a reconstruction video of that on YouTube, he explains the situation and everything, and how he came to make the shot. Pretty cool.

    Disorder's Military Guide

Got to flat out disagree with #4. If your being shot at, going prone is actually among the worst things you can do. Unless your on a slope where you only be seen standing up, or behind cover again where you only be seen standing, you should never go prone. Great way to get yourself killed. Sets up a much easier shot for the person/s firing. If your in the open or have no cover nearby, best thing you can do is simply run. Don't make it easy for the guy though, weave if need be, and say for example the guy is firing from the North, and effective method is to run either East or West, so it makes so that if he is sniping you, his having to lead you, which without pratice is hard to do. Make the kill harder, not easier..

    Framerate in cities

Really comes down to your setup. Especially with games like Arma, they are much more CPU intensive. I have recently overclocked my 3570K to 4.4Ghz, it runs anywhere between 80-110fps outside cities, and 30-60 inside cities. I run coretemp and CPU-Z on my second screen at the moment just to make sure everything is stable, my CPU when playing Arma/DayZ is between 60-70% load, although I do play in 1080P, with medium settings. You can crossfire/SLI and you could still get pretty bad frames on this.
  19. If I play any game while listening to music I play like crap. Only time I play music is on games like GTA, where you just mess about anyway, or like zombies on CoD, some epic music holding off hordes of zombies. But yeah, how you can play DayZ with music is beyond me. Surely it leaves you at a fairly large disadvantage?
  20. I stalked a guy for 20 minutes.. And it was his first time playing, I felt terrible. He spawned in Kamenka, and we happened to be heading to Komarovo to get industrial parts. I caught this guy with a flashlight in the corner of my eye, and as it was night and I was wearing a ghille and stalked him from Kamenka to Balota Camp. Best part was he crawled the whole way there, occassionally crouching to scan with his flashlight (Most likely did not know the gamma exploit). The whole time I was doing the evil, creepy voice in direct. After I got bored, I confronted him, which was funny because he kept getting brief glimpses of me before I finally stood still, for him it must of been like seeing a ghost for a split second. He asked if I had been hearing voices, which I said no.. And he thought it was part of the game. For his determination to reach Balota and pure skill and avoiding zombies.. I handed him my M9 as a gift and sent him on his way. I still felt terrible for what I had done to the poor guy though.. Terrified him . B)

Worlds longest gaming session - DayZ

Every now and then I'll have one of those sessions where food and drink is stored in your bedroom, the curtains are closed, the lights off, and the door locked.. If I could lock it that was. For DayZ the longest I played was last year in November, woke up at about 8:00am, played through to about 5:00am the next morning. Not by myself, for the majority of that time I was with my buddies. The longest one I've done was when Borderlands 1 first came out, had no idea what game it was, and had never heard of it, I only got it because I needed a good co-op split screen game. Ended up playing it from the morning I got it to the evening the next day. For a game which I never had any intentions of getting at all, turned out it was my most favourite game ever. But back to DayZ, after a while it does get veeeery boring, especially when the server begins to get empty, then your left to hunt for gear, vehicles, and heli's, and wait till people start waking up again.
  22. Another one bites the dust, loot his body, hide it, no different to the last guy.

    DayZ Standalone Discussion

They are making major improvments to Zombies. I've heard that if you are heard (e.g. Shooting) you have mass amounts of hordes on you within minutes. Zombies right now suck because they are limited by the engine behind the game. This is what SA is all about. They can do whatever they want with it now. I've also heard zombies will be spread out across the entire map rather than in towns and that they will doubling the amount of zombies in towns as well.
  24. Most of time, on my own, I'll help players out if they don't turn on me. A couple of times I've handed my pistol, and some other bits and bobs to help guys get on their way, this is when they have just spawed, or recently spawned. In a squad, it is difficult to help players or come across friendly at times because when people see multiple players, their first reaction is run/hide/shoot. We have handed other spare vehicles at times, as well as a helicopter too just to be nice. :) Our general rule is.. Judge from a distance, decide on what needs to be done. Sometimes if they pop round the corner at almost point blank range, you either spam direct chat, or you just have to shoot.

How to get better at gun fights.

Play the Wasteland mod. Join the independent side if you have friends, if not, join OpFor/BluFor. Find yourself a gun out of a vehicle or buy an M14 or M4A1 CCO from the gun store (Can get either with starting money). Go and look for trouble. Wasteland is a brilliant mod to get better. Always getting into large firefights, me and my buddies play on Independent and we got ourselves involved in a firefight between Opfor and Blufor, must of been 20+ players excluding ourselves, lasted for about an hour. Find yourself a weapon, and a vehicle, start driving round, look for trouble, get stuck in. ARMA 2 is alright.. But against AI it really doesn't compare. The AI rarely miss but they also do not move in the same way a real player does, it's actually pretty dumb the way they move about sometimes. Another good way though is using the Armex map (Known as the armoury). Will allow you to use any gun of your choice, maybe use the firing range or mark yourself targets and just pratice. You can also refine your heli skills too! Since playing Wasteland my squad has gone from average, to pretty dam good if I say so myself. Our communication is much better (Now using compass/map/reference points to spot targets), as well as being much better taking down pesky bandits or otherwise annoying players. In terms of actually being in a fight in DayZ, if they spot and fire at you first, move the hell out of there. Try and move back, flank back round, remain in cover. Never return fire if your being shot at first because your already on the back foot. If you spot them however, do not just start firing. Make sure you can take down the guy in a few shots, make you have a clear shot. No point in making yourself known if you dont have a good chance of killing him. Maybe wait until he starts moving again. And most of all.. Don't panic, keep calm, and don't get annoyed when you die. It's all part of the game!
