PvP Will always be in this game. Deal with it.
RJTurneR replied to Quaby's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There are two different types of people who complain about PvP. Those who will always shout friendly at anyone or anything and then rage when they get killed, and then those who feel the mod has become dried up and very linear were PvP is about the only thing left to do, and it doesn't matter what they add or update through patches.. It's still very boring. I'm the latter. I finished with the mod. The mod has zero excitment left and I don't even get paranoid running through towns or open fields, because I know I will be shot at without question. Personally, I fail to understand why the mod will continue to be developed. It turned into a 225km2 Free for all. What else can you develop? ArmA is limited to what you can do and this has been proven. -
Dayz SA only 150 People allowed in Open alpha? is it true?
RJTurneR replied to NozRee's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I can understand were your coming through, but there are gamers out there who can't afford the hardware but still spend hours upon hours playing their favourite games. My friend who I play with is a spec on my radar when we compare systems. His on some bog standard laptop were as I play on a high-end PC built myself. Yet you'd still find him playing every day/night on DayZ. Yeah those who love PC gaming do end up building their own most of the time, on various budgets. I hit 650 hours (Counted on Steam) on ArmA2:OA last night. Thats a combination of the core game, DayZ, and wasteland. But most of that, maybe around 400 hours or so, is DayZ. Which is also across two PC's, one crappy and my new one. At the end of the day, those who sparked the popularity of DayZ like Frankie, JackFrags, The Squad (Sacriel, Oshi7, etc..) will be the ones rewarded. Without YouTube and Twitch, DayZ would be no where near the popularity level it is now. As an example, I watch Sacriel and The Squad a lot on Twitch. Sacriel hits about 3,000+ viewers per night. Thats 21,000 views a week. Thats exposure. -
Free DayZ StandAlone TeamSpeak @ 37.187.195.75 - ZombieWorld.eu -- SA Server is up !!!
RJTurneR replied to U.G.N - Jedi Panda's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Hey guys! Hope the server is coming along well, have been on lately.. Pretty much because I'm finished with DayZ now until SA. Just got dried out for me, I've got this and another server with good gear but everytime I log on I'm just like.. "Meh.." Hope everything is coming along fine though, and hopefully we will be able to carry this over in the SA (Any news of hives yet?). If not, I'm sure we will cross paths in the SA! :D I've taken to playing my ol' darling.. Wasteland. I went through periods of switching between DayZ and Wasteland but just find Wasteland so much fun. Just all out PvP. So if any of you wish to join me give me a heads up. Also started playing Planetside 2 lately. Great game! I'll pop back whenever we get updates on SA though, keep it up Panda! -
Dayz SA only 150 People allowed in Open alpha? is it true?
RJTurneR replied to NozRee's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Some people who are mature and have income have to spend that money on more important things in life than a high end PC. I think the SA should include an initial hardware check though, purely just to help the Dev's optimise the game and get feedback and which person experiences what with which hardware. I just watched ... 'His' .. video, and this is why you never go by any source than the official source or hear the words come from Rockets mouth himself. This is almost a pointless discussion to an extent. The public alpha will be open to everyone, as someone else mentioned the servers might be up to 150 players, but there will not be a limit to the amount of people who can play. Not sure were Frankie got such information but I'm 99.9% confident it's false. Also, LoL at the people who stole a seriously old Dev build. Thats why there are such builds known as 'Stable' builds. Some people are just desperate.. -

RJTurneR replied to NozRee's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Then half the people will start replying saying they run an i7 @ 5.0Ghz and Titan SLI, although the Loadout beta had something where it detects your hardware to see what kind of setups get what results to better optimise the game. Generally speaking most Streamers and YT'ers run high end hardware for obvious reasons, and those who struggle will be able to give feedback to improve optimisation for low/mid-end setups. -
To add to that, what do you think everyone else uses across other games as well? In-game comms? Half of these games have terrible sound quality, the only one I know with brilliant quality is Planetside 2. This isn't console. People use all sorts of 3rd party apps i.e External map on a 2nd monitor on ArmA for example. Thats not cheating, just useful.

What was your split second decision that either saved you or killed you?
RJTurneR replied to libertycrab's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Made the risky choice of going after a chopper on Skalisty, 2 of us Vs 4 of them. Went over in a PBX, my friend sniped one then got pinned. I flanked the whole way round the island, decided to go for it, ran up the hill, killed two of them, decided not to bandage and killed another sneaking up on me, still decided not to bandage. Got in the chopper, took off, and landed elsewhere, just as more of their clan arrived. Got us a chopper with about 1500 blood left... B) -

RJTurneR replied to NozRee's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Not limited access, just Streamers/YouTube'ers will begin playing shortly before us, not sure if thats some sort of reward for helping the mod become popular though..? Everyone should have the same amount of access though. To be honest, It would be best to wait and see what Rocket says at E3. Some of the guys on YouTube have spread false hope or worried people on more than one occassion.. -
So using Skype/TS3/RaidCall/Mumble is cheating..? Oh, my bad, I was just doing what 90% of the community does. <_<

Will YOU become an Islander?

Standalone and Helicopters.

I'm down with the OP, one main reason for that as well. It will stops idiots and noobs finding choppers, 'Thinking' they can fly, taking off and crashing it 10 seconds. The problem with games that include aircraft is that they are very easy to fly i.e. BF3, ArmA. Some people can't fly but do anyway, or are just plain stupid and waste aircraft thinking its fun. If it takes 1 minute to even get the thing going, and is much more complex to keep it in the air, I can see that being minimised, given how some people won't even go into the ArmA tutorial to learn how to shoot, let alone fly.. -
Just a heads up for those wishing to join 24th MEU here is why.
RJTurneR replied to reapers239's topic in New Player Discussion
A few things I can gather from this.. A) Clans are constantly bashed by individual players or even other clans, mainly accusations hacking, cheating, exploiting, etc... I have had my own bad experiences of this, which caused to stop playing as a 'named' clan. B) The server you're playing sounds extremely overpowered. Little birds, Black Hawks, Protected Bases..? This is what turned DayZ into the Wasteland mod. C) Nothing is solid without proof. D) To be honest, there is no need for this post nor the blog. If players want to join 24th MEU, so be it, they have a bad experience and quit. This seems like an attack on a clan and a move to simply stop people joining for reasons that have not been revealed to us. Just my two cents.. Edit: Upon looking into this more, the server has a 'Pay for gear' type system by the looks of it. I rest my case.. -
I have Dayz Shell Shock - anyone else, or am I just a wuss?
RJTurneR replied to indalcecio's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hardly? If a few cans a of beans and an Enfield class as 'geared up' then good luck to you sir. To find an M4A1 CCO and DMR, Ghille Suit, Rangefinders, NVG's, Coyote, etc.. We're talking days here. And when you weigh looting for days against dieing in a split second, you can understand the risk/reward the comes with DayZ. -

Hopefully I'll have it downloaded for the weekend.. Screw internet speeds in the UK. <_< I'll PM you some time Trizzo if I manage to do so. Back on topic......... -
I heard myths.. That if you open a Mountain Dew, the spirits of every man and women that once posessed a Mountain Dew is released from the can. Some say at this point the sky turns neon green and cans start falling from the sky. Some say... The spirits fly towards Green Mountain. Last time I had possession of a Mountain Dew, I was attacked by a man with a hatchet in the middle of a large forest. Be warned people.. They are watching you.

Your in the same boat as me. Gaming has become very stale for me so far this year, BF3 has become old, I hate the CoD series, Metro is good for looking at but the AI.. Yeah, I just bought Rising Sun, it looks good and I love WWII games so I hope its worth it. I'm finished with the DayZ mod. I have high end gear on my main server but it hit rock bottom in terms of fun the other day. Even though I was looking for a fight, looking for someone to shoot at me.. I had no luck. People just hoard gear and sit in their camps, or in treelines above towns. No one goes looting or looking for vehicles or helicopters. My theory with DayZ though is to be aggresive. Especially in a fight, people don't like you getting all up in their face.. Mainly because everyone is a sniper. But I have way more fun strolling through the open at NWAF, rather than taking 1 hour to check everywhere only to find crappy loot. Just go for it! -
DayZ on Consoles? More Negatives Than Positives
RJTurneR posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So with E3 around the corner and DayZ pretty much at the same point, the topic of DayZ being on consoles one day has really picked up steam it seems. I for one can not figure why. It baffles me. Now I'm not protecting DayZ, acting like it is mine and no one else can share. The more people that play a game the better. I have played consoles since I was about 5 and have had Playstation all my life. Last year I entered the world of PC gaming and haven't looked back. So any argument with things like this I always see both sides. The question I have is have console players really considered everything when asking for this? There is a lot of questions to be answered, and I'm hoping I can express my opinions on this matter.. Let's go. The first one, as I'm sure you have seen, is the KB&M Vs The Controller. This isn't an actual concern to me. Mainly because a lot of games on consoles have multiple assignments to one button/joystick, and I can imagine DayZ on console being stripped down alot, so this may 'offload' some of the weight on the controller so to speak. So that covers that, quick & easy. When I say I can see the game being stripped down on consoles, this comes down on the limitations of consoles. There are some games out there on consoles that are large but are optimised for console and so load very quickly. DayZ being developed on PC only right raises concerns of things like loading times and possible lag on console. DayZ in general will be more optimised on PC when it comes out, but it will still be somewhat demanding, the map is very large since they now added to it, and there are many objects to load. It would be interesting to see if consoles could handle this. Now the recent argument is that next-gen will be equal to mid-end gaming PC. Now this seems true, but the games will developed on console and be optimised. This won't be the case for DayZ. We have no idea how it would handle DayZ as we have nothing to compare to or no evidence, but I feel consoles would struggle to run the entire game without something being taken away e.g. Making the map smaller, less players, less zombies, less objects, etc... Then we move on to the audience. Now DayZ was boosted in popularity mainly through YouTube and streaming. This obviously attracted players from all different audiences in the gaming community, because its a video of a game, they are not experiencing it for themselves. Now generally speaking videos of DayZ are pretty much always edited, due to the length of time people play DayZ, so the length of the videos ends up being 30 minutes as opposed to several hours of playing the game non-stop, for many days as well I find. I believe this may have misled some of the console players. DayZ is almost like a game of being committed. To get anywhere, you find yourself playing long hours, this is down to the size of the map and having to travel, and generally speaking the only way to get geared up is to spend a fair amount of time doing so. I have shockingly discovered that I have almost 600 hours worth of gameplay on Arma2:OA, this is a combination of the main game, DayZ, and Wasteland. But I'd say the majority of that is DayZ.. Maybe say, 400 hours or so. So since playing DayZ since September last year, I find myself grinding through hours upon hours of travelling, looting, killing, etc... Even some nights were me and a group of friends would spend the whole night into the next morning playing DayZ. This pretty much goes against what a consoles were designed for. Pick up and play. Jump on, have an hours worth or so, and then pop down the pub for the night (In my experience.... ;) ). Consoles are not really designed with an unusual amount of hours being used in mind, although they are used commonly in such ways. I had a PS3 for 5 years, in that time I opened it up many times, cleaned it, replaced the fan once for a better one, and reapplied thermal paste twice or so on the CPU/GPU. Did it resolve the issue of overheating, mass amounts of dusts, and loudness? .. No. As the term goes, the fans would kick into 'Jumbo Jet' mode, this happens on both PS3 and Xbox. And is usually the death of them. I kept mine going through maintenance but the common consoles player may not know how to go about that, majority of people I know who have a PS3/360 have experienced bad overheating issues and have had maybe 2-3 models each (More common in Xbox I find). Now I built my own PC start of January this year, I just opened it up and I can only see a very thin layer of just of the two front fans, which is protected by mesh to stop dust anyway, some on the PSU, and a little bit on the two GPU's (I run CrossFire). So thats 6 months and almost no dust, there are 8 fans in there, but thats the point, you can fight against things like dust and heat in PC's through installing more fans and other methods to help airflow and overheating. So taking DayZ longer hours of gameplay into account, and then combining with the consoles general issue of dust and overheating, the two clash quite a lot. Which takes me back to the point of the game maybe having to change in order for it to work on consoles. I could probably come up with a few more reasons as to why it won't work very well on consoles, including the fact that majority of MMO's have mainly been developed on PC's and are more successful on that platform. But this covers my main concerns when it comes to people wanting the game on console. You have most likely "Been there, Done that" with all this but I really wanted to go in depth and shed some light on some of the real issues that I feel will hinder the game from being a success on consoles. Thanks for taking the time to read, if you're going to make a subject worth discussing you may as well absorb a lot of information first. Edit: This is in relation to the discussion of DayZ to consoles, but similar issues could be applied to other and similar games wanting to be made on console too. -
DayZ on Consoles? More Negatives Than Positives
RJTurneR replied to RJTurneR's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Sometimes when looking at things like this, assuming is better than just throwing a load of random points that don't add up. I'm going by the console audience, hardware, and general history. When you look at consoles traditionally they are designed for such games or for long hours of play, this much is apparent and is proven. I still love my console and as soon as I caught wind of the PS4 earlier this year I was already sold. I have been a long time fan of Playstation. But from my perspective, and obviously everyones is different, the game doesn't make a lot of sense being a console without a lot of change. Thats taking into account the type of games on consoles, most recently the CoD/Battefield series, both being fast paced, pick up and play type games. They are avaliable on PC, but look at the numbers and see just how many more people play those games on consoles. DayZ is not among those genres, which could be an issue. -
It was a comparison between the two systems on their general location within a household. Majority of console gaming is done from a distance of the screen, be it from a couch, a bed, a chair, etc.. PC gaming is pretty much only ever done at a desk for obvious reasons. The point was what's the point in buying a console, and then just use a keyboard and mouse anyway? Yes you can use a keyboard on consoles but mainly for social features, otherwise it wouldn't be called a console really..
-
So you buy a £400-£500 console only to use a keyboard and mouse anyway? Surely that cancels out the point of buying a console? The console is designed so that you can sit back on your sofa away from your TV, with a wireless controller. Could you get a wireless keyboard and mouse? Yes, but then you need a solid platform i.e. A desk, so that really comes back to what this arguement is about... Why not just buy a PC in that case? You could easily put together a mid-end gaming PC for around the same price tag, seriously.. YouTube, some of these guys get insane price to performence. I don't care if DayZ does end up on consoles. But the genre of the game itself doesn't fit consoles, and the genre in general has never fitted consoles. If it did, MMO's would be largely multi-platform. It doesn't fit the audience, and would fail badly. Just my two cents.

DayZ Alpha won't launch until launched !
RJTurneR replied to [email protected]'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
The complaints will somewhere along the lines of... "Where is my AS.50?" "This game is way too hard, worst game ever" "Wheres my hacks...?" You get the picuture... -
Generally speaking it does not matter what they use but in a way some people try to help them along, controllers put you at a huge disadvantage to anyone with a mouse and keyboard, which is.. pretty much everyone. Mouse gives you almost 2x as much control of your aiming, is more responsive (Tweaking DPI, Polling, etc..) and just feels better. I currently play ArmA with head bobing turned off and smoothing turned off (Makes looking around smoother), combine that with 4000 DPI which is what I play at and you can do a full 180 in a split second and kill that sneaky basterd who comes up behind you. Try doing that on a controller, even if you adjust your sensitivity, you will you will end up dead. You also find on controllers some buttons will have two/three assignments on games, where as on a gaming keyboard were you sometimes have the extra keys, you can assign everything to its individual key, all within comftable reach of your fingers. Some mouses even come with buttons that you can assign keys to so you don't have to move your hand from one side of the keyboard to the other. I have a logitech G35 (I think thats the one anyway...) and half my keyboard is assigned to that thing. To sum it up, you have almost double the amount of customisation and flexability with a mouse and keyboard. But to each his own. I used to play 95% console gamer my entire life until last year.. Now? It feels weird to hold a controller.

I understand the need to interact with people, but side chat is the single most annoying thing BI came up with, especially with playing DayZ. Just constant people crying on side chat trying to justify why the person killed them is a hacker, end up ranting for a whole hour purely because they died, I wouldn't miss side chat if it was removed.. Anyway.. "learn to shoot u ***" "y u kill meh, I waz friendly" "hackerz, no way did u just kill me like dat" "Your mom...." Basically, anything a pre-teen would come up with. <_<

Will DayZ be overshadowed by next-gen consoles at E3?

Will DayZ be overshadowed by next-gen consoles at E3?
RJTurneR replied to Stoddy15's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Ok, for the record, anyone who comes into this thread stating either "Consoles are better, PC's are worse" or "Consoles are dieing" or even "All console players are young, not tech savvy, and annoying" is wrong and needs to look at the bigger picture. I have played Playstation since about '98, when I was 4 years old.. Yes, even a 4 year old can play Crash Bandicoot. SInce then I have had every single PS console, and also one 360 which I rarely played. Last year I started getting into PC gaming and in January of this year I built my own PC, with great results. One thing I will say, console gaming is still more fun. Why? Because its quick and easy to pickup, majority of people I know have a console so its quick to hook up with them, and everyones specs are the same, so you don't have to worry about your friend getting frustrated because his getting 10fps and your getting 40fps. On consoles everyone can enjoy the game itself with no additional worries as to whether or not they can run the game smoothly, so on so fourth, etc.. PC gaming is brilliant, especially if you have a very capable PC, playing games with high quality. I see PC gaming as the more 'serious' side of things. People care about wanting to get the best out their games, and generally speaking things are taken more seriously when playing these games. The problem is people don't get an equal experience. People have different setups, etc.. And so were as you can be beasting people on BF3 or something, that other dude is getting some serious FPS lag because his setup is not so good (And don't say just buy/build a new PC.. Stupid statement). This thread has turned into a which one is better, and so I'm going to leave it there and move onto the actual topic. Yes, it will be overshadowed. Why? Because DayZ is one game. Infact, it will be overshadowed by a lot of different games. Because it is only on PC, and it was originally a mod of a game, so unless you have a PC and ArmA, or you have seen it on YouTube or from another source, generally speaking the interest in DayZ at the E3 is going to be towards a very specific audience. Any hardware release will also do one over on a game. I can't wait for the E3 and to be honest my interest will mainly be in that of the PS4, I generally know what to expect from the standalone, and at the E3 I expect it to be nothing more than screenshots and some gameplay.
