Newb In need of blood + morphine near green mountain
iegle replied to AcIdBuRn03Z71's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've got both and am nearby. If you can wait until tonight (~9 pm Eastern GMT-5) I can help. Oh, and it's a trap. -
FOGEYZ Private Hive Happiness ~ Serving Bandits & Survivors
iegle replied to poMONKey (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
That is was about I get too. It is triple what I usually play, but I'll give it a try and see how it goes. I have never played a server with ping >50 before. -
FOGEYZ Private Hive Happiness ~ Serving Bandits & Survivors
iegle replied to poMONKey (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Would love to join, but ping too high. :( -
LOL at the OP: drooling emissary from the short bus forum. Thread delivers; would read again.

Sometimes even heroes need saving (Video)

Nice. -
Choices, choices. What guns to use?
iegle replied to David375's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Your M4A3 is about as good an all-around weapon as you can get. Keep the backpack, and toss the rest of the stuff that has no doubt been hacked in. -
New survivor looking for fellow gentle(wo)men to survive with
iegle replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'll be brief... YOU ARE PLAYING THE WRONG GAME! -
I did, and he didn't.
-
Bummer :( My character that did the crawl is still alive. I have an M4A3 CCO and a load of supplies. I'll probably get sniped by some unseen bandit, or offed by a scripter....

Day 100... What's the longest you've survived?
iegle replied to McK315's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
OP: congrats on day 100, that is quite a milestone! I tend to make it to day 20 or so then get bored and start doing stupid things around people of questionable integrity. -
I see you and gregsquatch on a server I play on frequently. Now I know what you two are up to. :) IGN is Mentor. Hit me up if you ever need medical assistance, I'm generally non-hostile ;)

Poll: Which gun is best in which situation?
iegle replied to Science Jelly's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I aim to get one of the M4 CCOs as my ultimate and only weapon (for survival or medic roles). I can use SD rounds for Zed clearance, and regular rounds for defence against bandits. That way I can use the extra space in my pack for supplies. Notable mention to the hatchet as well, never leave home without it. :) -
Looking for a Canadian to play with!
iegle replied to Business Gecko's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Perhaps. I'm in Eastern time, 2 hours ahead of you. I usually play sometime between 9-12 pm my time (7-10 yours). I'm outta town for the next week, but PM me if these times might work for you and if our play styles sync up maybe we can have a game. I'm also on Skype. -
What is the best route north
iegle replied to intelligenttrees's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Balota, deer stands, Zeleno, Zub, Stary, Gorka, Berezino, NE af, across the top to NW af. Something like that, depending on how it goes. -
Good riddance.

Good points about the smoke. I have never used it pre-emptively, especially since it is usually easy to check the rusty car spot before making your move. It would only become an issue if a sniper took up that position after you cleared it, and before you were done in the tents. I agree, smoke is best used as a last resort, e.g. if you get caught in the tents with your pants down and the sniper misses his first shot. You can then use it to try to escape. I always try to carry a smoke grenade with me as well for a last ditch escape. My usual exit is north through the thin woods. Probably not the best, but I'm an assault rifle guy and getting into the woods where the snipers may be ASAP gets me a leg up on any hostile who is there with a scoped weapon.

Try rolling back to an earlier version until it gets sorted out.

Are you suggesting that a lone player should only raid the near-side tents, and ignore crossing the open ground to loot the more exposed far-side ones? Would you scope out the far side tent from the near side one across from it to evaluate if the loot present was worth the risk of running across? Does this decision depend in part on what loot you manage to find on the near side? What are some good exit strategies for leaving the tents? Has anyone every tried employing smoke to screen off the tent area from the rusty car sniping vantage point when looting the tents? Is this viable, or does it just attract more attention? Most snipers are in my experience too cautious to move into a CQB situation, and they often don't have ideal gear...but they might have a spotter who does. Stary is one of my favourite locations, I'm always looking for new ideas to survive there more successfully.

I don't agree that bolts should be 100% recoverable. They will get damaged on use, I find the current retrieval rate to pretty realistically reflect this. An improved sight would be nice, but with practice you can hit with high frequency. Most shots taken are at <50m anyway. A quiver or some way to store bolts more efficiently will be great, but this has been discussed ad nauseum. Overall, one of my favourite weapons for my play style. I just don't depend on it when surrounded by Zeds, or when PvP is a distinct possibility. I always like to keep a "proper" :) primary in my pack when using an X-bow, and have a secondary to fall back on just in case. I do love raking up Zed kills with it for sport though.

You answered your own question. Arma is a specialist's game, requiring a deep understanding of fire-team and squad level manoeuvre tactics. You have to think and be a team player to do well in Arma. DayZ is much simpler, and has a lower barrier to entry. Anyone with FPS experience can pick up a gun and succeed in DayZ; not so in Arma. DayZ appeals to the simple masses. :) To be honest, I find it a shame that DayZ has done as much damage as it has to the Arma community I do believe that things will get better when the DayZ standalone is released and Arma can once again be returned to the true enthusiasts.

Why don't more players play like this?
iegle replied to DigitGreen (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Both players showed great courage in this interaction. Thumbs up. Shoot on sight is the easy way out most often adopted by pussies. Try talking to other players. It takes guts. -
how to trick carebears into a death trap
iegle replied to Reverend Killjoy's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
LOL The short bus forum delivers again. -
Your humanity increases on its own over time, quite rapidly in fact, up to a max of 2500. Stock up on food and water, and go for a long walk around the map. You'll be back to survivor skin in no time so long as your son stops murdering people.

Disturbing thread is disturbing. Note to self: never drop a can of beans in Chernarus. You never know when a horned up adolescent in a ghillie is lurking behind you. <Backs away slowly>

As a loyal subject of the Empire I use "Day Zed". I like the use of the term "Zed" as short for zombie, and this is just not congruent with calling the game "Day Zee". Calling a zombie a "Zee" does not have the same ring to it, either.
