We need to lobby for another vehicle: the shopping cart. Oh, and the devs will need to get to work on getting cats into the mod too, as soon as they get dogs worked out. A hoarder character would need to amass a herd of at least a dozen cats.

So I was derping along an open field outside of Bor when two shots ring out from an unseen assailant in the treeline. My leg is broken. I unload a half dozen M1014 shells in the general direction of my attacker as suppressive fire, hoping to get to cover, and lo and behold my enemy is killed. Alone and with no morphine I begin to crawl. I hit every deer stand I find on my way from Bor to Zelenogorsk...Stary Sobor...Gorka...finally making it to Berezino. I thought for sure I was going to get capped just as I got to the hospital, but no. I lay my hands on some precious morphine and regain my feet. In some sick twist of fate suited for this game I found a dose of morphine in the first deer stand I checked after making it to the hospital. Now I'm off to find some other way to die....

Yeah, me too. In this case I was a relatively fresh spawn on my way to try and recover gear from the corpse of my last character. I had not happened on morphine yet when this happened. This was also a contributing factor to how I got ambushed from behind while running across an open field. I normally would not leave myself so open to that, but in this case I was running hell bent for leather, only stopping to grab some food, drink, and a primary for the journey.

Could spawn an entire black market economy based on limb & organ reselling. DayZ takes another step towards mirroring reality. Terrifying.

Not sure, but I did notice when I woke up that I smelled of chloroform.

I got the Hep from getting blood bagged by a guy, but never a global ban. It was no dream. Beware from whom you get bodily fluids.

Fuuuuuu... So this character had quite a run, making it to day 30. On that day I happened on a heli crash site in an open field outside of Stary. I took out all of the Zeds and found a pile of frag grenades and NV goggles (!). Happy with my new-found loot I run off, turning back to the heli to squeeze off the last three rounds in my STANAG magazine so I can get it out of my inventory and reload a fresh mag. I press fire, but nothing happens. As soon as I see that little green circle on my screen it dawns on me, right at the same time that the frag greande I threw lands at my feet and detonates, killing me. Such is the way of DayZ: a heroic life snuffed out in the most brutally insignificant of ways. On to the next story....

Despite the individual efforts of many who are used to more traditional FPS games, DayZ is not a pissing contest. Hence the removal of the debug monitor.

If you find gear that is obviously hacked in you should destroy it. This is regardless of whether it is equivalent, or inferior to legitimate weaponry. Get rid of the garbage.

When travelling from A to B alone through a wooded area, how do you do it? Crouch walking is quiet, you are harder to spot, and you have more time to scan the area, yet you are an easy target if spotted. Crouch running is faster, you are harder to hit, but you also do not have very good situational awareness. I am assuming we all crouch when moving about, and that we all run when crossing open areas. These may not be valid assumptions, but let's keep them out of the discussion. Also assume you are alone, so any sort of bounding overwatch is not an option. Also assume that when running we all use evasive zig-zag type movement. For me, if the cover is decent I will crouch walk, and scan like crazy. Try to stay hidden and get the jump on others. If the cover opens up I run, slowing on occasion to survey the area. Looking for other tactics here.

Interesting discussion, thanks for all of your thoughts. I am apparently far to the left on the caution scale, as I tend to crouch walk through woods 90% of the time, only running when darting through open areas to the next cover. I use the thumb button on my mouse for free-look, and scan constantly while walking. I also double back frequently to try to catch stalkers. My characters live a long time (I must average >20 days), but they don't get as much done as you guys. :) I guess I just have the patience to enjoy long walks through the woods. Then again, I am the guy who crawled from Bor to Berezino. ;) In my next life I might try running more and see how it goes.

Yeah, another assumption: there is a reasonable likelihood of contact with other players (e.g. woods neighbouring a city).

Agreed on all counts. 3rd person servers are proliferating, because they appeal to the bottom of the pyramid. I generally find the calibre of player on 1st person only servers to be much higher, they don't rely on this crutch. I digress. Back to the topic at hand, my original opinion of the OP has only been reinforced by his own protests; he is indeed, an idiot.
