Nice review. You do point out many things that we all accept playing a mod under development for a pre-existing game engine that has its quirks, but also has a band of dedicated and skilled players. A couple of comments: I very much appreciate the lack of persistent character advancement. This gives me, who has maybe 5 hours/week to play, a chance against the unwashed masses of no-lifers who play 16 hours per day every day. If there were levels or some other form of persistent advancement players like me would be squeezed out quickly. The signs add to the flavour of the game. Learn the rudiments of the Cyrillic alphabet and deepen your experience.

I average somewhere between 20-30 days, at which time I generally do something stupid like drop a grenade at my feet, or go afk and come back to a corpse.

Be careful with Battleeye - They're horrible support.
iegle replied to Xellial's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well, as a test I just launched DayZ Commander without the admin privlidges and you are correct, the game ran fine. Perhaps it is the generic CD key from GOG that was the cause of my issue. I do recall installing my authentic key, but cannot be sure of the timing. Still, this only backs up my point. If BattleEye banned me for using the generic key that was supplied with the copy I purchased from GOG, then they would have known this was the cause of my ban and been able to help me resolve the problem rather than leaving me to sort it out for myself. My appeal e-mail was sent to them over 2 months ago, and I never received a response. -

I feel your pain. When I attempted to play DayZ for the very first time I was greeted with a Global Ban message. My copy of the game was legit, and recently installed from GOG.com. I had only played ArmaII solo until this. Nice first impression. I sent an e-mail to BattleEye support as instructed on their webpage, and was never given the courtesy of a response. Given this atrocious customer support I have vowed to never purchase a game that utilizes BattleEye again. I can not support this business practice of treating innocent consumers of your product as guilty with no opportunity to prove yourself innocent. In the end I did find the root cause of my Global Ban and addressed it myself, no thanks to BattleEye support (I was not launching DayZ Commander with administrator privlidges). The damage has been done, and they and the game developers they support have lost a future customer forever. -
Hi All, For the second time in a matter of weeks I have been unable to join any public hives. I use DayZ Commander to connect, and for the past few days all public hive servers are showing as unavailable. I can still see and connect to private hive servers. This is not an issue with versions, or filters. Just floating this out there to try to learn if the problem is isolated to me, or if there is a general issue with the public hive. I had a look through the Troubleshooting forum and don't see any recent reports of issues. Is everyone here on a private hive now?

It's not a troll. The stars in the game are reasonably accurate. Learn your constellations and you can locate the north star easily. The easiest way: the two stars at the end of the "bowl" of the big dipper point right at it. You can also use the "W" formation of Cassiopeia to direct you to it, with experience. EDIT, here:

LOL at the medical advice being dispensed here. Yeah, the DayZ Forum would be the first place I would turn when concerned that I might have a serious neurologic condition.
-
You can also use the north star. I found this even easier than trying to figure out what direction the clouds were moving on many occasions.
-
Why don't you just play Arma II then?

How the new patch will bring Zombies back into the game.
iegle replied to de4dcert's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I like the increased chance of infection. Unfortunately, I believe that it will be accompanied by an increased antibiotic spawn %. This will nerf the change and make getting sick no more worrisome than having to take deal with shaking from pain. -
Camo clothing is legit. I think your issue is specific to the server you are playing on. After the last MOD version rollout there was something that needed to be done on the server end. If this was not done, the people wearing camo or ghillies get kicked. I am not clear on the details, but I am pretty sure it is the server, not you. Try playing on different servers until you find one that has been updated properly.

You can start a fire in an oil barrel without matches. Look for them in industrial areas of cities. I know there are some in the Berezino military camp.

You guys have way too much fun with this game. I is jelly. :) Nice story. Will read again.

Awesome, thanks! My work computer is set this way by default, but I never thought to apply it to my personal computer.

This is a homoerotic internets.

What i've experianced in Day Z so far
iegle replied to Mr. Charles (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
Disagree. In a "real" apocalypse (zombie or otherwise) there is no respawning. I do not believe the mod in its present form tells us anything about how a real apocalypse would go down. In real life the douchebaggery would be stomped down rapidly as society worked to restore order. -
Bump! My ideal kit: Primary + max of 6 mags, pref a mix of STANAG SD (2) and regular STANAG (4) Secondary + 4 mags 2 frag grenades 1 smoke grenade 4 bandages 3 water bottles 1 can of pop (to give to another player dying of thirst) 3 blood bags 1 epi-pen 4 morphine 2 painkillers 2 antibiotics (if I can find any!) 1 heat pack 1 road flare or chemlight As much food as I can carry to fill up the remainder of my inventory, minimum of 2 or I'm hunting I think that is about it, might have forgot something. I like helping people out....

The OP has mentioned encountering other players. I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt that he is not creeping the woods on empty servers at night. The ultimate outcome of encounters with other players does not have to be gunplay, or even communication. Silently stalking well-geared players brings with it a thrill in its own right. There are many ways to enjoy this game. The OP has one that most of us do not have the patience to enjoy, but this does not make it any less of an accomplishment than 100 murders or getting your hero skin or whatever else the rest of us use to measure our own performance.
-
Congratulations on the accomplishment. Survival is the ultimate goal of this game, despite what others have said here.
-
The OP is on a NZ server, my ping is too high for me to help. Good luck.
-
We're near Zelenogorsk right now and could help. PM me your server and in-game name and we'll see what can be done. Why not post in the TMW thread? Wait: it's a trap, isn't it? PM me anyway.

How BUNKERS should look and how to impliment SLAVES
iegle replied to Marcellus_Wallace's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Lol, in the thread wherein cannibalism, forced imprisonment and torture, and animal cruelty are discussed it is my post that gets deleted. Awesome: the DayZ Forum delivers. -

I was running around with an ALICE pack full of food when I stumbled on a coyote backpack in the Balota ATC tower. I was redlined on hunger and thirst, but nothing was flashing yet. I dropped my ALICE to pick up the coyote and the ALICE disappeared, along with all my food and water. That glitch nearly killed my 30+ day old character, but I managed to find drink and kill a boar in about 5 minutes, with hunger flashing for what must have been 3-4 minutes. That glitch sucked worse that your situation OP, but I just rolled with it. I tipped my hat to the DayZ gods, acknowledged their devious attempt to kill me, and moved on. Life is too short, especially in DayZ.
