    Giving out Medium-Tier weapons

Awesome, thats perfect! I just made another daring solo run into the NW airfield at night (thanks to my new G17), but there was only crap in the barracks. What a creepy and nerve racking experience. I'm right next door to Lopatino! I will see you in Lopatino in 2 hours mate!

    New Items: Cigarettes/Cigars?

The only problem with visible at night is that the "head" of a burning cigarette is probably 100x less bright than that of a chemlight, which is only visable for like 50m or something. You'd have to be <5m away to see a fella smoking.

    New Player needs some help.

http://www.dayzwiki.com/wiki/Map The display you're talking about is the DayZ Debug UI, it has been removed from the default UI. You can get it back in the options menu, but it is buggy now; don't leave it on as it will not display your temp, blood, thirst and hunger rates properly.

Hi, I'm tempted to ask if you might have a spare Coyote backpack (the 24 slot one), or NV goggles? I've been to several military spawn locations since we met up before and I can't seem to find either.

    New Items: Cigarettes/Cigars?

It constricts your blood vessels and therefore your extremities don't get their proper amount of bloodflow. That being said, I was thinking the same thing last night about ciggies. One use that could work, and would be realistic, is that they could cure hunger pangs when you need food. Certainly not as long as actually eating... but if eating resets your food timer to, say, 15 minutes until you need to eat again, smoking a ciggie might reset it for 3-5 minutes. An adverse effect could be an increased rate of thirst. A pack could contain perhaps 10 cigarettes in the same way road flares or chemlights are stacked in one slot..

    New Player needs some help.

You should have a read through of the wiki, alot of your questions will be answered with some investigation.
  7. Fair enough! I'm a 34 year old dude who plays mostly military sim games. I live in Boston, so I am east coast. I see this game as a men vs zombies kind of thing, so I am not really looking to kill other people, lest I am fired on by bandits and forced to defend myself. The idea of traveling several km to rescue someone or trade weapons or accomplish some repair or other task sounds great to me. I have had a blast the last few days just running around the woods raiding small towns and deer stands. I'm a WWII buff, so alot of the weapons in this game are new to me... I can't speak too much about my favorites yet. A friendly player met me and gave me an M14 AIM the other day, and I have been using that with great results. Recently secured a G17 pistol to replace my 1911 so I have some light with a weapon at night in lieu of NV goggles. I am currently on my 4th life and have been alive for a couple of days now, with a humanity of >3,000. Additionally, I'm pretty humorous, so my chat isn't boring. ;)

    Traders and Traitors

+1 for KuumotusTatti. It was not a trade, but he met me at my location and gave me a ton of stuff for free (M14 AIM, Ghille, GPS, map, medical gear, Ammo, etc etc).
  9. Does using STEAM prevent the loss of one's cd-key in a situation like this?
  10. Its not obvious to people setting things up for the first time, but thank you for your answer.

    Newbie Joining up!

My advice is to stick to very low population servers... less players means less chance of unwanted PvP action. I've been running my latest guy now for lots of hours and have not run into anyone out of the blue.
  12. Hi Chris, How about new players that want to play in the oldschool way? I wasn't around for the good ol' days, but I definitely prefer that kind of playstyle.

    Looking for a vehicle

Funny, this. I found an Old Bike maybe 10 minutes into my first ever life (2 days ago). Later on that night, on my 3rd life, I found another. I think my next objective is going to try and locate and repair an ATV. I think I know the answer to this extremely Bambi question, but I will ask anyway... Vehicles (and tents?) are server specific, yeah? I cannot save a vehicle or a tent on one server and expect it to be there if I go to another. Correct?

    Giving out Medium-Tier weapons

Well, not everyone is here to play the game like a dick. I don't play a zombie apocalypse game to shoot other people. To me the whole point is surviving, whether on your own (such as I have done for the last several hours on my character) or to team up with a friendly for awhile and accomplish something. What I can say is that KuumotusTatti kitting me out gave me the confidence to explore a little, knowing I could hold my own for a bit. Hell, I met the guy several km north of the shore. Food and water to travel farther and seek out more. I've raided 4 towns, killed several animals, cooked lots of food, and even tried my hand at raiding the NW airport (which I found too difficult and gtfo)... all on my own. I now know how to use the GPS, I've got a handle on the awkward inventory system, and even tried pitching a tent (which disappeared on me :( ) Don't lose faith in every new player! I've read all about how ruthless this game can be, and I am having way more fun running around solo and actually trying to survive this apocalypse than I ever would just sniping people from afar. If I wanted to do that, I'd just play Arma by itself.
  15. Hi, I gave a cursory search, but couldn't find anything on this. I am new to the game, and I am noticing that I have a 1-pixel wide red border on the top and left sides of the screen. My resolution is set to my monitor's native (1920x1200), and the 3D resolution set to same. The border will even show on screenshots as well. Is there something I am missing? Thanks!

    Red 1-pixel border?

Brilliant, that was totally it. ATI, with forced settings. Thanks mate!

    fps lag on some servers

Is there any way to tell how long a server has been up, other than unusually poor performance when playing on it?

Im a newbie who needs help.

Indeed, that's what I did. I watched alot of youtube vids before deciding to jump in, and even something as simple as watching how other people avoid or run past zombies teaches you how not to freak out and just to deal with the situation calmly. Also, you can learn alot of the places to stay away from, common sniper roosts and whatnot. Having a friendly player help you cannot be beat though.

    Giving out Medium-Tier weapons

Really? :o That is the one he gave me! :D I'm a WWII buff, so I have to learn all these weapons because the names don't mean a thing to me.

    Hackers

I have been sticking to servers with 10 or less people. I am on day #2 of playing, probably 7 hours or more so far, and I have not even been shot at on site, let alone hacked. I'm sure it will happen at some point, but it is avoidable to a degree i guess. It does suck, to be sure.

    Giving out Medium-Tier weapons

Well, I have to say this dude is for real! We had a bit of trouble finding each other due to my inability to figure out where the hell I was, but he came, he saw, he saved me from a zombie and then gave me all kinds of awesome gear! I was overwhelmed with just trying to fit it all in my little cyote pack, under the cover of darkness, lit by a roadflare. Intense! Now I have a real feeling of dread walking around because I know how hard it is to gather all this gear! I cannot thank KuumotusTatti enough! A class act. Here is KuumotusTatti in action: http://steamcommunit...ls/?id=99880745

    Noob need help!

Thank buddy! Those wiki instructions worked just fine and I had zero problems whatsoever installing and getting up and running. Good to see another person from Massachusetts playing!
  23. Hello, So I've stumbled upon this game/mod and I am very much interested in it. I currently play Iron Front: Liberation 1944 (which uses the Arma engine) but I don't have the various titles required for playing Day Z. So I go about learning a bit about this game, watch a bunch of YouTube videos and come away with the impression that the game is rife with hackers. This wouldn't be such a huge deal, except for the fact that this is a game with one life and scarce weapons and not a quckmatch-FPS-spaz-type game. The idea of trying to survive for a few hours and kit myself out etc, only to be turned into a bunny and exploded by hackers does not seem appealing to me. I have also read that this game/mod is being made into a more of a full title in cooperation with BI; are they looking to solve the hacking issues through some new anti-cheating technology? Does it make sense to wait until something like that project is available before I bother trying with the game in its current form? Obviously lots of people are playing this game, so it has got to be good. Maybe there is a disproportionate amount of information out there about the hacking, and it isn't nearly as bad as it looks? Perhaps I have missed the opportunity to get involved with this game in its "glory days", before it became infested? I would like to get involved, but I'm quite aprehensive. I do not play alot of multiplayer games, and the ones that I do aren't particularly popular, so I don't have much experience with, or tolerance of hacking. I ask you players to give me an honest take on the hacking issue in this game. Is it as bad as it appears from the outside looking in? Thanks!
  24. I already have IrontFront Liberation 1944 which is, from what I've heard, better than the mod style WWII game. All this being said y'all, I just had an amazing experience on my first time out. Played my character for about 3 hours, met up with a bunch of friendly new guys, no hackers at all... the server had 10 players on it when I got there. Had an absolute blast.
