13th time ive been teleported/killed by hackers...
klesh replied to Criticalchris's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I started playing DayZ on September 27th, public hive servers only. I have not been hacked once. Are you logging into very high population servers? Try playing on low pop ones, as the hackers seem to stay away from them. -
The most loot box was in the cherno supermarket

Kill a zombie. Put the hacked stuff on his body. Hide the body. Get a new weapon. -
Spawning into the debug plains is making this game unplayable...
klesh replied to dfo's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
That is the same circumstance that recently happened to me. Someone in that thread mentions reading another thread on here which discussed the version difference being the culprit. Its odd, because I have also logged into servers which kick you out for not running the same version. I guess the ones that do let you play have the potential at times of having this happen. Glad you were able to get your gear back, as was I. I just chaulk it up to being an alpha mod, and take it in stride. This is the kind of thing I hope is not present in the standalone. -

What version of the ArmA OA beta are you running and does it match the server's? Debug plain really does suck, I feel for you. I had my first experience with it this week. -
New Standalone Screenshots released
klesh replied to mattlightfoot's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
I like what I see in the pics, and I like what I read from rocket in terms of his/the teams thoughts on this art and the ideas about the game in this thread. I also really like this guy's post. Hopefully the fack that BI is where it is will help ensure what he is talking about will happen. -
Since DevilDog hasn't been on the forums in awhile, could someone PM me the location & server? He say's the server is going down on the 15th, so there isn't much time! Thanks,
-
We worked it out prior to meeting. He came to the server I wanted (where I happened to have my truck, and met me where I told him to). Go ahead and PM him, I bet you guys can make the arrangements.

The Cherno Journo is legit. I met with him today actually, picked him up in my truck, and we did the interview in the spot of my choosing. He then helped me try to find engine parts for another 30 minutes or more. Really nice guy and an interesting project too. You honestly have nothing to worry about with him. I really look forward to seeing how he recreates my story with the editor and puts it together.

I was forced to commit my first murder this afternoon. I would love to contribute to this project. PM sent!

Hi, So, my 9 day character (4th life ingame) just died upon spawn in. :( It's an alpha, so I'm not too QQ about it. :) I did manage to get just over 500 zombo kills, so thats a good benchmark to have set. Problem is, I was then spawned in to the debug zone. Strangely enough, all I spawned in there with was the 24-slot coyote backpack I had on my guy prior. Completely empty inventory otherwise. 1. What direction do I run to get back to civilization? 2. Can I make it back there without food or water? 3. Should I just let my guy starve/die of thirst, and hope I spawn in a normal spot? 4. How long will my old body stay in it's location with all my stuff on it? Thanks! Edit: come to think of it, it would be great if there were some kind of tower placed in this debug zone so we could jump off it and kill ourselves immediately.

Looking for someone to help me test the hero skin vest.
klesh replied to Muncywolverine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
When I firt got mine, the guys I was playing with didn't believe it stopped pistol rounds. I told them to shoot me once in the vest, and it worked, no shock even. IIRC, he was using a G17. -
Interesting. Indeed, the server that I was on does have a different version of the Arma beta. I'm on the latest 97771/71 (because I figured that was what one was supposed to do), and the server is on 97448/51. Sometimes I wont be let into a server if I have a different version, and sometimes I will. I couldn't figure out why that was. This particular server is always smooth as silk for me, and it has my tents on it, so that why I keep coming back to it. Maybe I should rollback my Arma beta version?

What I saw klesh as been killed, I hit alt+f4. I logged in again to the same server and it happened a 2nd time. 3rd time I figured all was lost so I just let it happen, whick then spit me out at the debug area. So, was it this issue with the server, or the game in general?
-
Hi, Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately the youtube video I checked out kind of steered me in the wrong direction. So I ran and ran and then died. No matter! I respawned in Cherno, which incidentally is the first time I've been in that city (pretty big!), and thankfully there was no one sniping. I gathered enough gear there to support the trek back to my body, which thankfully was still there (without the flies sound, strangely enough). I was able to reclaim all my goodies! It was rather fun to be back to nothing there for awhile, and without NVG's and it getting dark, it was a harrowing task to get back to where I once belonged.

Towards the top of DayZ Commander, between "search" and "favorites", there is a "recent" tab.
-
Doesn't that stand to reason, though? Bandits have proven themselves to be a higher risk to another player because of their past actions. Without an identifier like a skin, the players would be even less trusting of anyone they come across and KoS would be even more prevalent than it is. That being said, there are ways to manipulate the system, such that player-killing bandits can still look like survivors, if they transfuse blood for their bandit buddies often enough. It's definitely not a perfect system, but its better than a free for all of mistrust, imho.

How NOT to kill that nice American who picked you and your squad mate up...
klesh replied to albinorhino's topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
Oh, c'mon dude. I was razzing you in a slightly more intelligent way than just shouting "USA, USA!!" You yourself pointed out the nationality of those involved, so I went with it. Where is the "historical debate"? I didn't think the BTP was really a hot button issue with British folks these days. All good-natured fun here, I'm sorry if my comment hurt your feelings. :/ -
That does look pretty cool, maybe it was too military/effective? The heroes stick out like a sore thumb with their white flannel plaid sleeves. Then again, there is the camo clothing. What happens if you put the camo on as a bandit or hero?
-
Ouch! Oh, another thing. You have to run each, Arma2 and OA once before you do DayZ Commander. Just firing them up to the main menu is enough, but you'll prolly want to set up your playername at least in OA before you get going.
-
How are you making out?
-
Anyone got a screenshot of the old bandit skin for those of us that weren't here when it was being used?
-
I won't shoot you if you don't shoot me! Another word of advice is to stick to some low population servers for the first night. It'll reduce your chances of being hackerkilled and leetsniped by some jerkbag on a hill while you're running around figuring things out. Also, don't freak out when zombo's come at you. You can avoid them for the most part if you keep moving and don't get boxed in, whilst remaining chill.

Deja vu! That is pretty much how i got started. Watched all of Frankie's vids and debated waiting... that lasted for like 2 days and then I jumped right in. Welcome to the game! Did you get the 2 DLC's? British somethingorother and Private Military Dudes or whatever its called? They will ensure top quality textures on various models including your character. Also, get DayZ Commander. Use that to update the Arma game to it's beta, and to DL the latest version of DayZ... it sets everything up for you, and is great for finding servers and launching the game. Keep a web map open (here and here), which shows the various spawnpoints for vehicles and items etc, and also keep the wiki handy for questions you might have on which weapons are better, which ammo goes with what, and what locations spawn what kind of stuff.

I thought my allusion to the Boston Tea Party was rather clever!
