    Fishing off Death Mountain

    Sooo 1337!
  2. There are a few at the military tents in Berezino as well. 3 I think. You can light them without matches the same way you can light a regular woodpile without matches. You need the matches to build the woodpile, not light it. It's the same scroll wheel action.
  3. Perhaps they have kept the old version installed somewhere. I don't think Frankie uses reenactments? I know he got another guy to do an intro for him, which had reenactments scenes.
  4. I read the Cherno Journo (who makes reenactments for his vids) saying that you have to use some old version of DayZ in order to fidget with the editor. I think the ability was removed by the devs at some point, but I don't know why.
  5. You can also add DayZ commander as a non-steam game, launching it from you library will give you the overlay.
  6. Before the end of the year is all they've said.

    Hello everyone!

Welcome! Flashlight needs to be right clicked in the inventory and removed from the tool belt. It'll go in your pistol slot, then press L to turn it on. I hope you enjoy playing! Don't let the zombies steal your face. ;)

    Using Map waypoints and markers

Don't overlook the fact that they can also be used for misinformation. If you are planning on operating in the NE of the map area for the evening, why not throw a bunch of "X-HeliCrash" or "X-4 tents!" and other enticing markers in areas far from where you plan to be. It takes only a few seconds to do and could possibly lead some players out of your vicinity.

    Guns for Girls

You've already gotten some great replies here, but I'll throw mine in on the questions I felt needed a little more background history and clarification. Besides, I like girls. :P Because what they shoot is smaller than larger, stationary machine guns. The "sub" means sub-calibre, where the calibre is the diameter of the bullet being shot out of it. Often times these bullets are the same size as pistols. Another early term for a sub-machine gun was "machine pistol". Machine Guns is really a term that was coined for automatic shooting weapons: hold the trigger and pew pew pew! This was around WWI and the decades before. Then as more automatic firing weapons were developed, they added to the generic term machine gun. This is why you have a handheld "sub-machine gun" (which was invented basically to sweep the trenches in WWI after you rushed them), as well as light and heavy machine guns. The difference between light and heavy is often the mount they are on. "Heavy" machine guns are stationary and mounded usually on a tripod or fixed vehicle mount, whereas "light" machine guns can be carried around (usually with a team of dudes, one carries the gun and the other the big boxes of ammo) and usually have a bipod attached to the front so you can pick it up and run about with it. Light and heavy machine guns can often fire the same exact bullets. No. Assault rifles were invented in WWII to give automatic fire like a sub-machine gun while still maintaining the characteristics of a rifle (larger bullet, more damage, longer travel, better accuracy). Think of them as elongated sub-machine guns, the latter being extremely inaccurate past 100m. After WWII, many assault rifles were changed from firing actual rifle bullets, to slightly smaller bullets, because wars were no longer being fought at long, 600m battles; your M16's and M4's and such. Sniper rifles were initially regular infantry rifles that were made extra well, often sent back to a factory to be enhanced with tight fitting parts, optics, super precise barrels etc... extra TLC on them, because they were only given to the best shots. Oldschool ones were regular, bolt action rifles like every grunt had, only tricked out a little sometimes just plopping a scope on top. Eventually they started developing them specifically to suit the sniper role, and they became a class of gun in their own right. A great example of this ingame is the M14/DMR. The M14 was a regular grunt rifle, and then it was decided to really trick them out, where the stocks were replaced and barrels and all kinds of doodads, such that it becomes almost a new gun. Further that concept, and you've got guns like the AS50 and M107, which are specifically and only used for sniping. You can think of shotguns like hand cannons. Their shells are loaded either with a cannonball, or grapeshot. You would shoot a deer with the cannonball and a duck or goose with the grapeshot. In fact, they have all kinds of sizes of the grapeshoot depending on what you're hunting, but they all fit into the same sized shell. Shotguns do come in different calibres, but for some reason with shotguns its referred to as gauges. The lower the gauge number, the biggger diameter the hand cannon. Rifles are only shooting "cartridges" which is the bullet stuck on a usually metal casing. Indeed, the technical term rifle comes from the process of rifling, which as was mentioned is cutting small groves inside the barrel to make the bullet rotate in flight, like an American football when thrown. However, tank cannons, assault rifles, sub, light and heavy machine guns, old fashioned wheeled cannons, and in-fact shotguns can be "rifled" by using this screw design in their barrels, but they are not called rifles per se. I hope that helps even though you've gotten great responses already. Wikipedia is all you need to learn more about guns without getting too dorked out on them.
  11. You can either just continue to play without killing survivors or heroes... your humanity will increase 30 points per minute. You can also give medical aid to people, but its best to do this with a buddy, because as you know random people wont trust you as a bandit. Medical aid increased your humanity faster, depending on the action you perform. This of course requires you to go into cities with hospitals so you can get the supplies to perform the treatments. What is your humanity number at currently?

Please tell me it's a My Little Pony tattoo?
  13. 116 blood transfusions, 580 morphine injections, 1,450 bandages or epi-pens will reset you to 0. Good luck.

How do you Save in Dayz?

You don't need to actually perform a save, just abort the mission and disconnect. Your character is being saved while you play. As long as you are playing on official hive servers, then everytime you log back in you will be where you left off with the gear and blood etc that you left with. If you are playing on private hive servers, then you would have to restart your character every time you join a new one. I use DayZ Commander, and there is a filter option to include or not private hive search results.
  15. I mean the < and > keys on the keyboard. Im on my phone right now but i think its the . and , keys.
  16. Use < and > to switch radio channels for communications. Direct channel is what you use to type and speak to people near you. I was under the impression that shooting a bandit-skinned player resulted in zero humanity loss?
  17. I'm curious as I've read this advice before for different issues. The problem is, when I hit Esc to bring up the menu, there is no "respawn" button.
  18. Op, check Matt Lightfoot's twitter. He tweeted just the other day asking if anyone had connections with Heinz and Pepsi Co.
  19. I have heard that recording to an external drive, or a drive that the game is not on, will help. That being said, Fraps has always been a hog performancewise.

    Steam Launch Error

Hmm, I was about to do the same thing, but I saw the warning and cancelled out of it. I was looking to fool around with some of the helicopters and tanks found in the base game. Strangely, I do not have "Combined Operations" as a launch option, even though that is how I purchased things in order to start playing DayZ. They seem to have installed themselves as separate games, including the 2 DLC's I got (British, Private Military). Until I figure this out, I am going to leave things as they are because I don't want to lose the ability to launch DayZ.
  21. Its nice to hear a proper definition of what "the Minecraft development model" is, since I have never played that game and can't find a definition of that phrase anywhere online.

How do you control your DayZ Rage?

I simply don't rage at a videogame. Its a game, that I play to have fun. Raging, throwing a controller, punching a something or any of that activity is not why I get involved in a videogame. The farthest I might go is to say "aw man, that sucks". And move on to have more fun. Lastly, and I hate to say this, but you want to use your... you're means you are and its usage in the title of this thread isn't proper English.

    DayZ Singleplayer

I really despise speaking to a game like that... "Open map", "Change View" etc. The same reason I refuse to use Siri on an iPhone. Maybe I'm getting too old... Get off my lawn!
