I was alone running in the woods to the AF listening to the whole thing. Baddies were dead by the time I arrived. :( I did take out 2 fellows while 3 of use raided the NWAF later on in the night though. 3 vs 2, they got one of us and I got them both at the fire station with the M14. One on the roof and one at the main doors. Didn't get recorded, but I've just gotten dxtory now so I should be capturing some action soon.

What do you have YOUR visibility at?

Should Heli Crash Sites be marked on the Map?
klesh replied to klesh's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
My post you're quoting was directed at the user who assumed this was for Balota Buddies servers only. Presumably private hive servers could edit Heli Crash Sites however they see fit, which is why I phrased it as public hive servers (which will run the unedited 1.7.5 version). -
That's so mean, Mr. Nasty! :(

Going to the market when you heard shots being fired was a mistake. It's a popular location, so you basically ran to a spot that would present a high probability of running into another player. Running to a smaller building, especially one with only one entrance/exit is better as you can keep tabs on who enters and exits. At this point, you should've abandoned meeting up with your buddy for the time being and focused on getting away from other players and listening for the action to settle down. Microphones are essential. Indeed, you do not have the time to type out greetings and warnings to people, it's so much easier to simply talk to them. Random encounters like that are tough any way you slice them. For instance, the guy in the store that acknowledged friendship with you could've run with you for 2 minutes until the opportunity presented itself to axe you in the back while you looked around a corner or some such. I would not have offered for him to tag along, until you really know how to handle yourself and have a friend to watch your back. Setting a rendezvous at the church in Cherno is not so hot either. Meeting in a random low loot value residental on the outskirts of town would be better, or off in the woods would be best. Use an offline web-map to determine a meetingplace, and orient yourself by using landmarks in game. You'll learn how to do this in time. Again, you're trying to minimize the encounters with other random players, so don't go where they are going to be unless you're fully geared and with a partner. Additionally, once you are geared with a partner, not having a mic and being able to communicate on coms outside of the game (so no one in game can hear you guys) is making it extra difficult on yourselves. Don't try to recreate Frankie's experiences in your games yet. You should be wary of everything and supremely paranoid. Don't start shooting on site unless the other person has a bandit skin, lest you want to become a bandit yourself, and any time you get the jump on another player that doesn't see you, consider the quickest way to avoid a confrontation with them by heading somewhere else. Just some thoughts there. The fact that you're even asking these questions is good. :)

Should Heli Crash Sites be marked on the Map?
klesh replied to klesh's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This poll is regarding public hive servers. -
Sounds great! Welcome to game! The game is the most fun when you just start and have no idea what's going on. :D Let us know if you and your friends have any issues installing and getting up and running. In regards to public vs private hives, I played for months and months on the normal public hive servers. I've since switched to a private hive (Balota Buddies, coincidentally), and have yet to see any type of hacking going on there. There are pluses and minuses to each kind. Public hive servers allow you to jump around to different servers if you want to be on at a specific time of day (ingame), and your gear will carry over. Private hives are singular in that if you chose to go between a couple of different ones, your gear is individually saved to each server. When you join a new Private hive, you start the game with just the beginig gear (which may be different depending on how the private hive admins have set things up). Private hives might change the loot tables (what goodies spawn where) and add extra buildings or vehicles which you may or may not want. As stated above, the chance of running into hackers on private hives is greatly reduced, especially to ones that whitelist your GUID (game id code) prior to letting you on. Also, we give out beans as a form of forum reputation, so if you dig someone's post, or they've been helpful, click the "You have my beans!" button on the lower right hand side of their post. I think you guys will find this game alot different than The WarZ.

Haha! Thanks mang! :beans: Well it looks like Arma2 lost out to Counter Strike, by 1% of the vote. :( -

@ 40% off. This vote is to see what game will be moved to 50% off and presumably be featured more prominently on the sale page. The voting is over in 16 minutes, we'll see who won. -
Those are indeed the most up to date versions. Did you run both Arma2 and Operation Arrowhead at least once?

Me too. It looked like it was for plain Arma2 though, and not Combined Operations, which is kind of a drag. -
That sounds kind of lame to me. Half the fun of Heli crash sites is going out looking for them. Thats an odd one too. Maybe a zombie who agro's on you will cause other zombies within 100m of them to agro on you as well?

I love the inventory system personally.
klesh replied to scaramoosh's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Indeed. Leaving you to guess when it is full is just asking for trouble. -
Nightime is the right time for looting. Red chemlights work the best (besides the obvious NVGs) as they aren't seen from very far away but still let you operate more or less with reasonable vision. Flares can be seen from quite a distance and blue or green chemlights are visable from further away as well. Your flashlight is a dead giveaway, especially to any player that has NVG's on. You'd be surprised how close you can get to zombies at night if you are crouching and holding shift as the same time to do the sneaky stuff.

I agree. To keep it fiddly as it was so well put above, you could even have a slight progress bar which happens each time you make and inventory movement, to get that same suspense and clunkiness that adds to the experience. I'm pretty sure it would take a few seconds to slide an AS50 into one's backpack irl. -
There is this map available as well: http://db.dayzwiki.com/map/chernarus

Good man. :beans:

Got $400?

Yes. It easiest to run with a partner or a crew and always keep blood bags on yourself to heal them. The other medical items (painkillers, morphine, epipen etc give so little humanity when used that its almost not worth the storage space when your goal is a large humanity number increase. http://www.dayzwiki.com/wiki/Consumables#Medical_Supplies

He has mentioned in the dev updates that the inventory system has been rewritten completely from the ground up. -

Welcome to the game. Enjoy your stay. Please don't combat log with Alt+f4 because that is for the weak players; take your lumps and learn from each and every death you have.
