How to Fix the Fashion Issue

You two have been talking to my ex-wife, haven't you?

How to Fix the Fashion Issue

Yes. When I walk in the rain with clothes on, I get wet and cold. Then I either dry those clothes or put on new ones, once I am out of the rain. Just like i would do in the game. To wear everything waterproof is to remove one of the survival experiences in the game. I don't play the game to dodge the experiences presented by it.

    Black Element Software

Came across this today, it has quite the relevance to the BES discussion. Torchia giving a talk about his experiences with DayZ. He talks alot about BES and the troubles they've had outsourcing work to them. There apparently were lots and lots of problems. I've cued this video up to the question portion at the end. Skip back to about 17 minutes in to hear his Outsourcing 101 discussion. It seems there was a lot of issues with BI acquiring these smaller studios. I think you'll find it very informative about what has been going on behind the scenes. https://youtu.be/5qJEBj9mfxg?t=42m43s

How to Fix the Fashion Issue

Am I the only one perfectly content to run around Chernarus in an outfit that I would typically actually have personal access to irl? I dont want to be waterproof. I dont want to carry a tent's worth of supplies on my back. I want to have to make difficult choices as to what few supplies I can carry with me. I don't care if I am visible or not; shit my favorite jacket is the orange or yellow quilted. My starting jeans are just fine. A pair of hiking boots makes sense. 64+ items slot capacity with an automatic gun, 300+ rounds and camo everything thats waterproof just seems to negate much of the challenge the game presents at present. Dare I say, easymode?

    Status Report - 30 Sept 2015

It will be fun reading the threads about how they're looking for this or that matching camo pant, and no matter how many servers they hop, they just can't find them! Dan Hall, u said I could be armysurvivor!

    Status Report - 30 Sept 2015

The only backpack I have is the one I used in highschool 20 years ago. It's red. I also have a drybag I use for canoeing, its yellow. Not everyone plays army and keeps M90 jackets and Molle packs at their house. Most people are civilians and wear civilian clothes. Besides, anecdotal evidence of what you see around really doesn't have merit. However, as there are far more civilians than military personnel, it stands to reason that there would be exponentially more civilian clothes available. The more I think of it, the largest proportion of population that has a backpack is probably children. Nearly every single one that goes to school has one. Compare that to the maybe 1 in 20 adults that has a hiking backpack, the one in 100 that has military stuff at their house for whatever reason. The kiddie school backpack and the highschooler Taloon packs should be far and away the most prevalent. I also agree in the concept of needing a reason to wear something other than military clothes. Right now there are zero disadvantages to mil outfits, and that should change for gameplay reasons. Deciding, as Abe Froman himself described, between a high visibility/high storage pack or a low visibility/low storage pack should be a choice every player has to make. I expect this to be adjusted in the beta phase.

    How did you discover DayZ?

I discovered DayZ while playing Iron Front Liberation 1944 (now apparently a "Digital War Edition", an very flawed Arma-based game that had lots of problems. I had a few guys that I would play missions with, and one of them mentioned DayZ, which I thought he said Daisy, and thought that name was terrible. We tried it a few nights later and I fell in love. This was late summer 2012. SenChi was the guy that made the amazing maps for Iron Front, and I also met Orlok there, as just another poster on their forums.

Guys, could we maybe dial back on making even more camouflage clothing?

Sound when weapon drops to ground please?

Great idea! You should post this in the audio developer's very own subforum! There you "can interact, exchange ideas, and generally discuss the sound and audio environment in DayZ Early Access"! https://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/forum/146-audio/ It's great! He made 2 posts in February and then logged in the forums again in July! If he communicated any more, I'd feel like I was his coworker!

    RARE!

I agree, everyone runs around looking like a soldier; it's silly. Don't worry, they just previewed another set of camo pants!

    Contaminated Terrain

So Hicks will give some details about the future of Contaminated Terrain at whatever the latest videogame dorkfest conference they're going to. We have yet to hear much of anything in regards to this previously, as far as I know. What do you want or expect with regards to this? Will there be various contaminates? Will it be the zombie disease, or also specific contamination for the various diseases they've added and are going to add? Should contaminated areas be no-go zones without proper protection - as in certain, swift death - or should one be able to run around for a limited time before being potentially effected; a chance to slip in and out perhaps uncontaminated? Do you want certain areas of the map permanently contaminated? Perhaps the Military locations, such that it makes going for those top guns even more dangerous without the presence of other players? What about those piles of refuse laying around, some of them definitely have biohazard labels on them. Should they be a local source of contamination? Should contamination be flexible, with the chance of any town on the map being contaminated? Should this be able to spread to nearby towns? Should swaths of the map be rendered contaminated if given enough time / enough people traveling through it? Should animals within the contaminated zones also be naturally contaminated? Should there be a way to remove the contamination, based on what type it is? Hazmat suits and gasmasks etc required to spend time removing a contamination from a given town before its safe to hunker down and establish a safe area within the town. Should there be more than just a bottle of 409 as your disinfectant tools? This is one area of the development that hasn't been discussed much; I'm actually looking forward to hearing their take on what it will eventually be. What are your thoughts on the matter?

    Contaminated Terrain

Why not? We literally don't know anything about it; there isn't anything to dislike at this point. What ideas about CT do you dislike and hope they don't use? I've not played either game. What are the differences and why do you think one is good and one is meh?

White armband, what do they mean to you?

3rd option: They don't mean a thing to me. They ain't got enough swing, you know?

    Where do you find backpacks?

Make one with a burlap sack and some rope until you come across a proper one.

    Let's talk about tents, baby!

Let's talk about all the good things and the bad things that may be. Let's talk a b o u t tents. Let's talk about tents! I think barrels are the way to go for now. The only good places for any of the tents are in the closely-bunched pine clusters found in the woods. Anyone running past one should detour for 30 seconds to check them out for stashes. Torchia has mentioned a few times about the trees being redone, yet he stays tight-lipped on the topic. Perhaps in that redo the forest undergrowth will change, making tent placing slightly easier, and tent hunting slightly harder. Hard to tell. Once arial transport is in, all bets are off as it makes even the best-hidden camps easily spottable. For me, any tent/camp is strictly for surplus goods. Every time I log out I make sure I am carrying what I truly need to survive with upon re-logging. I log out expecting a camp to be gone the next time I log in, whether that is because of a wipe, a glitch, and alpher, or being raided. Having it be there when I get back is a bonus more than anything else.

    Server Help?

For starters, ask your question in the appropriate section. The section you've chosen is for new players to the Standalone game, and your question is about running a server on a mod of the DayZ mod. You could try asking in the DayZ mod servers section, specifically the subforum dedicated to Server Owners and admins, but you probably wont get proper answers because you're asking about a further mod, Epoch. Go ask on their forums.

    Ridiculous rain effects?

This, so much. We spent a year running around looking identical in the mod, and now with all kinds of choices, everyone just dresses the same so they can have MAX STORAGE!!11!. If I see someone in the typical all-military get up, I just go in the other direction. 9 times out of 10 they're "looking for action".
  21. No, its a zombie survival game in an alpha build, so not everything is in and working great, yet. Don't like it? Don't play it until they're back, no one is forcing you. You know I'm just one person, right? Yeah man, good ol' Dan. Great guy. Lots has changed in a year, you should educate yourself if you don't want to come off as ranting and raving about something you're not so well-informed about. Yes 2x0 is still 0. Like I said, they will be back and in force when.... they're back an in force. Go hade some more fun in the mod while you wait. You determined this, how? From my 2 sentences on how the zombies are still being worked on? lol. Are you having a conversation with like an imaginary group of people in your head but directing it to me? To answer your question, no, "we're" not in Beta, the game is still an Alpha. You're real fired up from my 2 sentences of answering someone else's question. If you hate your experience with the Standalone so much, chalk it up to your poor purchase choice as a consumer and don't blame me (or should I go with your delusion and refer to myself as "us"), fella.

    Ridiculous rain effects?

I don't wear the waterproof stuff. You can totally get by without it, its just another layer of challenge you have to fight against to survive. You get wet when it rains, okay... so dry yourself off? Heatpacks and fires for warmth. I don't really see a problem?
  23. Its an Alpher game. They'll be back, and in force at some point. Edit: This post was in reply to yet another "Where are all the zombies!?!" thread. The thread as a whole seems to have moved here, but the OP, which should be directly above me, is gone.
