The worst part about the mass teleporting fragfest, is that as soon as one person shoots, then they all start shooting, you've got no chance to log out because of the combat timer. This is what happened on my last public hive death-by-hacker and I moved on to a whitelisted private hive after that. I've had nothing but great experiences since. Click the sig for awsomeness.

New To ARMA and DayZ today. Not very welcoming.
klesh replied to TxJBxT's topic in New Player Discussion
"/" to open text chat. "," and "." to switch channels. Direct is for people around you. Same goes for voice chat, the button is CapsLock. Press and hold to push-to-talk and doubletap to lock it on. There are plenty of players that are willing to hang out with you and show you the ropes. Just ask! -
Not statistical evidence, claiming percentages as fact, no.

What evidence, other than your personal opinion, do you have for that claim?

if I drop my gear before dying, will I find it later on?
klesh replied to _Anubis_ (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
Dropped items like that will stay around until picked up obviously, or until the server restarts. -
You're presuming every player comes into this game wanting to survive and make it feel like a real zombie apocalypse for themselves. Some don't, and just want to ruin your day and taste your tears or whatever. Those that want to treat it like a real life zombie apocalypse probably aren't out there banditing, but those who don't approach the game that way could care less. Indeed, a kill in this game represents more anguish to the killed, because they've worked so much harder on getting to where they are gear and locationwise. If you want to give someone a bad time, you can do this much moreso in DayZ. The game is in the end a sandbox game, and people are going to approach it in many different ways. You ask, "why don't they take that mentality to another game and do it?"... the same could be said in the forums of whatever other game that is... why are they doing that "here"? There are folks who want to approach games for how they are designed and intended, and there are others who just want to watch the world burn, as it were.

What are your reasons for choosing a Private Hive?
klesh replied to klesh's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Bump for a few more folks to participate in the poll, it only takes a couple of seconds guys! -
What you'll want to look for is a server that has a city near you in it's title and low ping, but that has a different timezone set. You can find ones that are offset enough such that you don't have to play every session in the night (ingame) just because you can only play after work at night (irl).

Next time you are killed, run around cherno or elektro in COD shoot-em-up mode. Just look to mix it up with some folks and don't care about anything. This will help you get a feel for how to put yourself in a better shooting position on people. Find their location and either rush them or ambush them. Perhaps try it on a private hive you don't intend to continue playing on, so you don't ruin your humanity level and stay permabandit. You could also try the single player arma missions, but the AI isnt going to play like a real life DayZ player.

What are your reasons for choosing a Private Hive?
klesh replied to klesh's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Ahh ghosting, and server hopping. I should've added those. Thanks! -
You have to type in: Some servers won't give it to you but most will.

I'm hoping to learn about optimal conditions for Forex trading. ;)

British armed forces improved textures?
klesh replied to latiasracer's topic in New Player Discussion
If you don't buy the DLC's, you get the low res versions. I bought Combined Ops and both DLC's. Here is a comparison shot (relatively poor graphics) from google images showing the differences with camo clothing: The difference to me is night & day. -
 Okay, I'm curious... I'll bite. PM sent!

I've been teleported and killed probably a dozen times in the public hives. Hackers never got banned that I could see and the entire server was killed each time. Ridiculous! Since joining a private hive, I was the victim of a loser using an ESP hack only once. He happened to be being spectated by admins at the time and was banned from the hive thereafter. Private hives FTW! www.balotabuddies.net is where I play. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CcpJcOS0RKk

Additionally, your tent or any vehicle you were using is vulnerable to other players in that server only, as both tents and vehicles stay in 24/7.

Go to edit sig, click the sig picture in the edit box so it is highlighted, then click the link button (chain with the green + sign), this will open a dialog box asking for the url. Paste it in, hit save. Done!

They gave me keys to a US server, Whitelisted come in
klesh replied to Steak and Potatoes's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Despite the silly shenanigans in this thread (which are great, don't get me wrong), the Balota Buddies community is a great place to spend your DayZ time, seriously. There are multiple whitelisted servers: a hardcore 1st person only, 2,000m view distance server with vanilla loot spawns a 2017 server modified Chernarus server for the US, additional buildings, modified loot tables, 24/7 daylight Nightime is back! modified Chernarus server for the UK, additional buildings, alternative modified loot tables, normal day/night cycle modified Chernarus server for AU, additional buildings, alternative modified loot tables, normal day/night cycle a Namalsk server a TS3 server for everyone to use no matter what game server you're on It's 99% hacker free, and those rare instances when some scripting or ESP use does occur, the admins spectate the person and they are justly banned thereafter. There is always an admin or 2 on TS and they're super friendly and easy to get a hold of. If you've given up on the public hives and are looking for a secure gaming experience with cool people and the ability to bandit your ass off or make new friends, I've found Balota Buddies to be a great place to go. Personally, I've been there for a month and I have no intention of playing elsewhere... it's that good. -
Additionally, Arma2 and OA are pretty rad unto themselves, if you like modern military simulation.

My father actually owns an 1866 Centennial Edition, from 1966. It's gold plated, never been fired and still in it's box with paperwork etc. I'm not really into guns.
