Personally, I think since zombies will be able to run through buildings and eventually catch a player when they slow down and tire, Zombies will become a main threat again. I don't know if anything will surpass the tension of a player-encounter, but Zombies might come close.

Two words... Private... Hive... Private hives solve tent item duping, server hopping and the lack of vehicles. The only thing it doesn't fix is combat logging, but at least they cant change servers and move positions. I've convinced half my clan to stop playing on their own server and move to a private hive. The last three days have been the most fun I've ever had playing DayZ.

Tent duping is already fixed on most private hives and Rocket has already said he is going to take the best bits of code from the privates. Also, guns, ammo and equipment will have unique GUIDs in standalone. This means that even if they can't fix some kind of duping method, regular database audits will reveal the illegitimate gear and remove it.

The only reason sniping is so prolific currently is ammo duping. Sniper rifles will be few and far between with the only common ammo being DMR. M107s and AS50s will be so rare during standalone that the lone sniper will be very difficult to pull off. Lets say someone does find an AS50, it will have 10 bullets, 15 if he is lucky. That might mean he could kill five people if he got very lucky to be in position. -

Personally, I can't wait to join a clan server at nighttime and hunt for their camps. All the time and energy spent collecting ammo and equipment gone in an instant when I raid their tents. Anything I can't carry I will destroy. Their tears will be delicious. -

Copied from my original post and updated. If you've ever played for a long time and tried to find a legit AS50, you know how hard it can be to find. You might check 10 helicopter crashes in a row and still not find one. The standalone will come, when it does, everyone from the mightiest clan to the lowly beach-comber will be scrambling just to find something as simple as a CZ 550. Stary Sobor and the Airfields will become hotbeds again when clans regularly need to check them for loot. Someone might toil endlessly for a M107 just to get shot trying to reach the treeline. Raiding a clan camp will actually MEAN something when the looted guns and equipment are actually now gone forever. Sniping from cliff face wont seem worth it when you only find a M24 with one 5-round clip. If guns and ammo can be spawned with unique ID numbers, it will be relatively simple to squash duped items with database audits after they are spawned. Zombies will run follow you through buildings and on piers for standalone, so sprinting through Elektro and Cherno at max speed wont be possible. Humans will hesitate to Lee Einfield someone across the street for fear of bringing the whole damn city down on his head. If I understood everything correctly, they also want characters to slow to a walk if the run for too long. So no more zombie trains leaving the city, they will catch you eventually. Fresh spawn tension will be tenfold what it is now. This is the heart of what DayZ is, provoking emotional responses to the in-game events. If you play solo and gear up and wonder "What now?" Wouldn't that be the same thing you would ask yourself in a real world zombie apocalypse? Your house is fortified, the armored car is outside, you have plenty of food and water and still the question you ask yourself when you're all alone is "What now?". -

The line that determines "Outside the Map" isn't exactly known. Is it the line where grass ends and debug plains begins? Or are the lines precisely 000x and 000y (if these are the same as the debug plains lines, forgive me)? -

Correct, they are optimizing many details from the ArmA engine. Things like, removing all the rendered zombie fingerbones. -

The reason they cant stop most of the cheating now is because fixing script injection would require an ARMA 2 patch. If they patched all of ARMA 2 to fix this, it would break most every other mod out there. Standalone will be able to outright remove the most devastating hacks currently being used (i.e. teleporting, godmode and spawning things). I don't know if they will be able to stop passive things like ESP and whatnot, but at least the most egregious examples will be squashed. Punishments for duping items will also be enforceable once they add unique IDs to all items and regularly audit the database. Most of my sour behavior toward other survivors came from getting hack-killed when I first started playing. Standalone will bring tens of thousands of new players that will help re-build server communities. -

I've never been KO'ed unless I was hurt previously. Under 9k blood you have a chance to be KO'ed with every hit. Don't get hit next time. -
Most servers I've been in with sidechat enabled don't allow people to global voice. They only allow global texting. Building a community is impossible without global chat enabled. I want to be able to ask who is shooting at me. I also want to be able to answer people when they bitch about me hatcheting them in the face at Elektro firehouse.

Little things in the road that you should have no trouble going over IRL can sometimes cause MAJOR damage to vehicles. Is it possible there was something by the zombie in the road you didn't see? Me personally, I've never hit a zombie and had it damage the vehicle.

If it were me, I wouldn't buy ARMA 2 just for DayZ. There are less than 90 days before the Standalone release, you should just wait for that. -
How to avoid logging in on the coast.

I've only experienced this when server-hopping repeatedly and closing the game immediately after loading in at my logout spot. What happens is, I load in and it says "Dave has died" and I finish loading into debug plains with no inventory. No bag or nothing. I then exit, and rejoin the server and I spawn on the coast at the nearest point to where I "Died" (Skalisty Island in this case). I then swim back over and I find my corpse with all my gear. My number of murders, bandit and zombie kills remains the same, once I get my gear it is as if I never actually died. -
Avoid US1911 and whatever clan runs it

Since 1911 is a public hive, he can only know that it was spawned and you were then guilty by association. So he might have just seen your name associated with the box in some way and assumed it was you. You shouldn't take it so personally though, hacking is the biggest threat server admins face. They do whatever they can to thwart it. You should just play somewhere else and dont open ammo boxes. All ammo boxes are hacked in, if you see one, don't touch it. -
So with Standalone coming very soon, I thought we should create a thread with as many simple changes or additions to the game as we can come up with. This is probably the time to make our voices heard while they are winding up in development. I will update the thread with the good suggestions. Keep in mind, this thread is for solutions. Don't just post the problem without also adding your own solution. Also, remember that there are a great many things already fixed in the Standalone that do not need to be posted here. Crossbow Bolts needing a quiver for example, this is already confirmed for Standalone. Any suggestions about the inventory UI should probably wait until they announce how they are handling backpack space (i.e. a weight or item size system). I will start us off 1. Broken Leg cured by making a splint with a Bandage and Woodpile. 2. Many more Vehicle spawns, but they spawn needing a large number of parts to fix. 3. Melee move with guns.

There was already a Kamena spawn poll, 3 to 1 people want Kamenka spawns to stay in.

When clans can't dupe carparts, it will be harder to maintain a horde of vehicles. There wont be any reason to store more than 3 or 4.

dont buy ARMA 2 at this point, the playerbase for the DAYZ mod is dwindling every week. Just wait for standalone. -
Where did you find the PBX? DayZ DB map doesnt have a PBX spawn listed.
