Hello! I've been following the discussions about this game for a long time now, and as an avid player myself I have some opinions on my own about it. One frequently raised claim is that the survical aspect of DayZ is lack-lustre in some areas, like when you've figured out how to avoid zombies, farm animals for easy food, only loot high-value buildings where no zombies are spawned near it, etc. This is especially true at "end-game", where one of the largest part of the game, for many, is simply to go look for trouble with other players, a.k.a. PvP. I love that part, too, and I enjoy the thrill of hunting, sniping, or beeing attacked. Now, to strenghten the survival aspects of the game to "counter-balance" the, in my opinion, already great pvp content, I would like to offer some suggestions to what I see as the core survival aspect; the feeling of immersion and connection to the game world and your avatar. In games where I've enjoyed just "hanging out", such as Minecraft and DayZ (and to some extent WoW, but for partly other reasons), the common denominator, for me, is the feeling of vulnerability. The feeling of having to care about my toon in order to ensure his continued survival. Like, when after some pvp action, our clan sometimes just sits down in the woods, or at camp, around a fire, and makes sure the toon sits near enough the fireplace to get varm. This strikes at some deep part of my psyche, for some reason, and I really enjoy it. To accomplish this, compare the game to an actual hike through the woods at night, preferrably in late autumn in a temperate part of earth (like I imagine DayZ). It's probably pretty chilly, especially when it rains. You're maybe hungry, your feet hurts a bit. To translate this into the game, I've made a couple of bullet points down below for inspiration. This might be things that could be pretty easy to implement, (or maybe not), that would bring a lot to the game. My apologies if this has been brought up before: Outside * breath condensation * the occasional sound of biting gusts of wind (maybe some part of hair of clothes could animate slightly) * the dude is shivering if staying put too long * haze and fog in the forets and around low laying areas, and a greener tinge in and around forests * sound of wet feet when walking, after having traversed water * small, random animations (rare!) such as rubbing hands together to warm them Inside * character starting to doze off slightly in front of a fireplace, or inside, especially at night, loosing peripheral vision * varmer colour scheme Now, this is just from the top of my head, can you think of other stuff? Thanks! Gotta run now. :)
