  1. Yea the masks are so silly and out of place.

    What I think the night should look like;

Obviously people's experiences of night time will differ a lot depending on where they're from! I was brought up in the country side, and we've had nights so dark that I could literally not see my hands in front of me. Especially in winter. On the other hand, now I live in a city and I can't remember the last time anything was completely dark.

Dont you guys think (payday masks)

The argument isn't really to force people to do what we want. We're arguing that the existance of the masks take away from our subjective view of the aesthetic integrety of the game. And that's a shame.

Dayz Coast Spawning Only: Yes or No

I voted yes, mainly because always spawning on the coast adds a sense of progression, and I like that. However, it would be cool to spawn in a random house or apartment, next to a bed. That would add immersion for me, simulating waking up in my own home and finding the apocalypse outside.

    So character reset . . .

Not happened to me. What did happen repeatedly though is my key-bindings and mouse-settings kept resetting. Was god-damned annoying!
  6. The thing is, though, that a brightness/gamma-setting will probably always be needed, whatever kind of night-time they implement. Because people have different types of monitors that displays light, colours and contrast differently. They also have varying amounts of light in the room where they sit and play. I.e. the same setting will look different between computers, and it needs to be compensated for. Unfortunately.

    Sniper Rifles

    They should add BB-guns.

Dont you guys think (payday masks)

Exactly. They really ruin the athmosphere for me. It's like a corny bouncy castle on the lawn of a palladian villa. It also breaks the forth wall. :(
  9. I was just outside a while ago or so and it was PITCH BLACK. Really. I was out for a good 20 minutes before I could even barely see the countours of the trees against the sky. Granted, there's no light pollution where I am right now, right in the dark forest of southern sweden. The only way I even knew I was walking on the road still is because of the hint of a clearing between the trees. Now, I agree, there's no way to realistically represent that on a computer screen, but we should aim for that concept at least. Maybe, as several people suggests, make a very faint light right around the character, just enough to see the immediate surroundings, trees or buildings, but make the "event horizon" impenetrable except for NVG's or actual light.

Differences of realism as IRL and game. (M4 Accuracy)

From my own personal experience in the army I remember this: Laying down on the shooting range with an assault rifle, well fed, rested and concentrating on the task I could hit targets accurately at 100 meters looking through iron sights with relative ease, and I suppose at 200 meters with a little more difficulty. Anything further away was not really feasible. I never tried acogs. Now, as I recall, the hit pattern was often off to one side, or up or down, meaning the sights were probably off somewhat and had to be compensated for. Now, being hungry, tired, scared and running for my life, I'd probable personally struggle to hit someone 10 meters away firing from the shoulder.
  11. Have anyone spawned near, or been to, Berezhino yet?
  12. I've gotten it twice myself. My very first spawn was there and this was just an hour or so after release. I was amongst the first in on the server, I saw people joining in all the time but I was quite alone there. Luckily my brother spawned there as well so we could loot, in relative peace, Novy, Stary, Podgorevka, Green Mountain and Zelenogorsk. We found just about everything we needed.

    My Opinion on DayZ's Direction

    Hear hear. I agree.
  14. I used to "kos". I'm 31. I've also played a lot of COD. I like twitch-shooters. This time, I'm trying to play the "hero". I've met 3-4 guys I probably could've shot so far, and I didn't. It's a new experience, and I kinda like it. However, I will probably start shooting first later on. We'll see. Thing is, every playstyle is allowed. That's the beauty of this game.

    So..did the Americans...(equipment query)

So what breaks immersion is the western weapons, not the... you know ... zombies beeing unrealistic?
  16. Yea not having definitive control over mouse movements can be incredible frustrating. Better then to balance the gun play by different means, imho. However, I don't think it's a huge issue right now, but I would be happy if it was fixed in the future.
  17. I don't think the actual indicators are the problem with thirst/hunger. The problem is the dude is too hungry!!

    Praise thread

Yea finally a challenge. I know it's a good game when I have to take breaks for my adrenaline to wear off.

Two copies of DayZ on Steam? Potential?

I just wondered this myself. However, I would use one account for my play guy, and another account for another char just to use as a bank. Which probably would ruin my own experience somewhat. I could get all the spare guns from my friends and keep them totally safe, thus negating my ever needing a tent or whatever. So it's probably best if I didn't have that possibility. At least not easily. :)

Guns too Over powered at moment !

I gave my friend the quick way out yesterday evening. He had fallen unconscious and asked me to end it for him. So I put one bullet in his head and that was enough, he instantly died. Seems absolutely reasonable to me.

    ALWAYS NIGHT TIME?

I, personally, wish the sun will never rise!
  22. Amen, brother. Amen. I've been playing games my whole life (I'm getting old). I'm getting less and less interested in them. Not because I don't like gaming anymore, I do. From time to time I find a gem of a game that can still keep my playing a whole weekend. What gets me bored is the hand-holding. The lowest-common denominator. The constant rewards. The shiny, hollow worlds. The too-precious-to-fail mentality. The utter lack of challenges, except for muscle memory (which can be fun in itself, i.e. shooters). This game is brutal, no hostage nonsense. It punches you to the floor and kicks you when you're down, and then taunts you to get back up. Never before have I've been more fulfilled or felt a greater sense of accomplishment in a game then when I succesfully manages to overcome whatever this game throws at me. Because it is not scripted. Because it is hard. Because it relies on my own judgement. A judgement that rarely gets exercised in a game. Say what you will about rocket, but at least he has (so far) shown an incredible integrity to stick with his vision, and you can tell by this rugged gem of a game, and I hope he won't yield to the pressure to dumb-down, remove obstacles or cater to the masses.

Thoughts so far on Dayz Standalone

My 2 öre: I've played since realease and have not died yet. I actually think it's too easy. Granted, we're a gang of 3-8 people playing together and watching each others back so that probably helped a lot, but here goes: Positive: - The sense of desperation, harshness and general feel of survival-of-the-fittest. I need to man up in this game and I love that. - The graphics are better than I expected and OK so far in terms of FPS, even though towns and cities could be better optimized. - Exploration is more fun with more buildings. - The sense of accomplishment is back that got so thoroughly lost in the mod, now that items are harder to find - Nighttime!!! I hope rocket never gives in to the night-time-haters. Negative: - The food/drink-system is bad or I don't understand it fully. I'd really like a realistic nourishment system, i.e. needing to eat and drink as often as in real life, but food/water harder to come by. I feel my guy is too thirsty but primarily too hungry to be realistic/authentic. One full can of beans should get my at least 4 hours of energy. - Bugs and glitches. Granted, they are fewer than I expected, had a few crashes to desktop and lost a few items I tried to put on the ground. - Too easy to find M4's. My current gang of three that I'm going with, we've all found full 'military' gear with M4's with lots of magazines, large bags, medkits, camo clothes, raincoats, ballistic helmets, vests and lots of utilities to boot. - Can still do the gamma/brightness/HDR-trick to see night as almost black and white day time. Overall though I'm having a blast! Thanks to the DayZ team for sticking to your guns.
  24. I'm so truly sorry that you are dissapointed, really. You should never have to be dissapointed. If there were only a way for us to fix this, together! Next time, before any planned purchase, why don't you hit us up and we'll talk you out of it? Since it's completely volontary whether you should buy that next coke or pair of jeans, you can actually choose to weigh the pros and cons before you actually, volontarily, hand over the money. That way, you could learn to make more informed choises in life. :)
