It absolutely invites a different type of player - the ones more interested in wearing dresses than getting into tense situations that might cost them their dresses. BUT, 3PP will never be removed; Hicks and crew have said it time and time again. So we need to move on and hope that the community learns to appreciate 1PP. Ideally streamers and content creators start to profile it. But as one of the posters above said, Break and Ngotie don't do 1PP any favours by being as overwhelmingly negative about the game when streaming. It hardly makes anyone want to play much less play 1PP. I really enjoy Ngotie's ArmA3 streams because he seems to actually enjoy playing it. "Serious fun."

I think SA will be nothing like what the Mod was. I've been watching some old squad videos of the Mod in which 2 or 3 skilled squads vie for control of a region and compare them with the "entertainer" streamers and their "squads" (TehJamJar, Blackout, etc.) in SA and the two styles are worlds apart. The days of true tactical squad play are gone. I believe SA is going the route of an apocalypse survival game where the focus will be on surviving the environment and the Infected in which PvP will be incidental (unless you want to stay on the coast and don't mind dying and respawning every 5 minutes and DMing with axes). I'm doubtful they will be able to pull off the tension inherent in the Mod (the early days before the mods of the mod came out) by using the environment and infected instead of the player-base to create that tension. But I await 1.0 with hope that they strike the right balance and re-gain the anti-game feel.

I agree with the vast majority of what you are saying except the quote above, unless you are talking about Private hives - which I am heartily against. In North America, I get NO full Public 1PP servers. There are a couple nearly full ones in EU but of course my ping is horrible on them and so is the desync. I can get close to full Public 1PP servers in NA on the weekends, otherwise I'll be lucky to get 12 player pops. Most are 3 or 5. Without the threat of players, DayZ has 0 tension so playing on servers of 3 is pointless.

Hallelujah!!! I'm glad someone else does it. This is part 2 of my series. It's 3PP because at the time gunshots weren't working. I'm doing a new 1PP series now.

Unfortunately, those "legacy," vanilla SA servers won't exist or will have zero pops if they don't have choppers and planes in abundance. It happened in the mod and it will happen in SA if the Devs give Admins that level of control.

Modding should be saved for the game's end of life to re-invigorate the title, not out of the gate. 1.0 should be a single gaming experience otherwise it will quickly degrade into the same mess as the mod. I agree with you as well that they should have chosen 1pp or 3pp but not both; it just fractures the player-base.

Full disclosure; I admit that I am a frustrated 1PP player due to severely low pops on 1PP servers, making them less attractive even to me (and I WALK everywhere to increase the immersion - FYI: it's about 14 minutes from Kamyshovo to Elektro), unfortunately I absolutely cannot stand 3PP. Before Dean left (actually before the Alpha dropped I believe), he was talking about modifying 3PP to make it less of an "exploit" in order to get the best of both worlds: players could see their characters, while making combat/spotting more realistic in a 3PP world. I believe some of the thoughts at the time were: the faster your character moves the tighter the camera squeezes in the closer your character gets to a wall, etc., the camera also tightens when your character crouches and prones the camera zooms in progressively inventory menu would put you into 1PP (like ads) I've seen the video in which characters in blind spots wouldn't render (and I believe the Devs responded that this is too intensive for the DayZ engine) but I'm not really interested in what they do, I'm more curious if they have any plans along these lines? I haven't seen anything to this effect in the road map and I'm curious if it's just something the Devs are no longer interested in now that Dean is gone? I was hoping the last SurvivorGamez would have inspired more players to try 1PP servers but not even a blip. 1PP is increasingly becoming a "niche" for those people who want to play an apocalypse survival sim. Unfortunately for them it's also losing the threat of other players. Knowing that 1PP players are in the vast minority I understand that something like this isn't a priority for Devs, but I believe that thinking along these lines might make 3PP a better experience for everyone. Thank you for a nice, on topic response without being provocative; I hate how these things deteriorate.

Hey Zeotrope... I pissed off Hicks enough for him to answer me on this one before Dean left. He said, in no uncertain terms, that 3PP was going to stay in the game. Zero chance of removing it. Zero... The below conversation was specifically about 3PP (Regular) vs. 1PP (Hardcore) Brian Hicks @Hicks_206 Apr 16@raigprime @Acesfury @BreaK_71 @rocket2guns This is how it is. We have Hardcore, and Regular game modes. We will not be removing Reg. I know that they will not remove 3PP. Per my original post at the start of this thread, my HOPE was that they were still planning to FIX it. But it doesn't sound like that's the case either. It sounds like 3PP will stay the same broken, exploitable mess it is now.
-
Read the initial post. It was a question, not a suggestion and if you can't answer the question... why post anything in this thread? Are you being helpful? Or are you frustrated by something that you see and consequently feel an overwhelming need to address it by posting here? Oh wait... that might be the answer to "I dont understand why these threads are constantly being made over and over again." Maybe that's why these threads keep popping up (and, in this case getting hijacked). I.e. for the same reason you feel compelled to respond to them. You'll be happy to note that no one else was really able to answer my question so I believe 3PP peeking and the ensuing scrub play and the unfortunate lack of immersion one might otherwise expect from an apocalypse, survival SIM.... *deep breath*... is safe and sound. Happy peeking. Have a good day anyway.

Thanks. This is the closest I've seen to an answer to my question. Even this gives me a little hope that it's still on their radar as something to think about.
-
No worries. And again, I don't disagree with you. But as a player of the mod that had hopes of SA releasing as a 1PP apocalypse survival game and advocating hard for it for so long to no avail; I've simply given up. I'll play 3PP, but I was hoping the Devs were still, at least internally, discussing making 3PP less exploitative and I used the more neutral term "immersion" in the hopes that it wouldn't deteriorate into a 1st v 3rd discussion (that was naive).
-
I don't disagree with you. The Devs have said that they will not get rid of 3PP. The point of this was to see if they were still considering modifying 3PP so that it was less "exploitative." So I accept that my choice of words i.e. "immersion" for the title is poor, BUT less provocative than say words like "exploit" or "lobotomy;" you know, unnecessarily inflammatory when you want to open a real dialogue.
-
Re: changing it - I.e. 3pp Then it's a delusion that WAS shared by the Dev team at one point. That was the impetus for the question. OP (me) just wanted to know if this was something they were still contemplating. I agree, both perspectives are here to stay. My hope was that the team was going to do something about the "exploit" aspect of 3PP since, if I want to play on a full server, it looks like I'll be on 3rd as well. So, it's a question from me, not a suggestion.
-
I disagree with him, but it was funny. :). As much as I'd like just 1PP, it won't happen. So I was just curious if the Devs were still planning to improve 3PP.
-
Despite the spelling mistake... Excellent rebuttal! Good burn.
-
This got hijacked into the usual 1PP v 3PP and no one answered the question, so I am assuming no one knows if there are any plans to modify 3PP to limit the camera "exploit."
-
You missed the point. I'm not asking to have it changed. I'm asking if anyone has heard whether or not the Devs plan to make any changes. Big difference. I don't think for a moment the Devs will change anything to meet my preferences.

What you guys think about the new update?
raigprime replied to grimsonfart's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I have no problem with the knock downs, with the infections, with their power, etc... Tweak 2 things. 1. Either you have to be able to de-aggro at a more reasonable distance or the aggro range should be reduced significantly. 2. More antibiotics at certain places (hospitals, med tents, even grocery store) - I hear this may be a loot bug at the moment. That's it, otherwise I think it's great. Kudos to R4Z0R49 and team. I froze like a rabbit when I heard grass rustling near me. Was literally saying.... pls don't see me, pls don't see me.... and it walked on by at about 15 ft while I lay prone. -
TacticalAdvance gets trapped in the Balota ATC tower in DayZ 1944... funny and tense.

Sad that a VERY vocal bunch of ingrates can't throw the mods a bone of recognition. Their response to something as small as this is embarrassing for the community. I for one had no issue with such a small and simple thing. The funny thing is that I've heard a bunch of people complaining about immersion being spoiled. Ridiculous, so few people play 1st person, and play with cross-hairs, etc. I find it hard to believe their immersion is being compromised. I can usually be accepting of other opinions but this "outcry" (read: whining) should just be treated with disdain.

I got in a fun little crossbow duel at Nijita.

Please stop posting Wasteland stuff here. It's a fun mission but it's not DayZ. That's all.
