Can everyone do me a favour when the SA comes out?

The Wiki-Wonderland that is the internet, eh? If folks want to "monkey see, monkey do" their way through DayZ, let them. :P Tutorial-tactics are going to cut out a part of the game for those who use them. It doesn't affect anyone else. Instead of being resentful of folks who learn how to play through tutorials/guides, you should pity them, since they're missing out on experiencing things for themselves.
  2. The DayZ cash-in games are already well on their way, but they're going to have a tough time trying to out-do the original. It's not about graphics and AAA cashflow, but the breath of fresh air the "anti-game" brings. You just know any DayZ clone from a big-wig corporation is going to play it safe in certain regards, (more than likely they'll be "idiot-friendly", hand-holding crap), meaning even if they're financially successful, they're probably going to be nowhere near DayZ in terms of gameplay and vision. Ideas get reworked and developed (or stolen ;)) all the time. It's the nature of the beast. Honestly, I expect this genre to be commonplace before long. But trying to rip-off an idea before you have a good idea of what the idea is? Recipe for failure.

    Thermite Grenade

The old "water bucket over a door" prank. With thermite?

    Why is "side chat" prohibited?

It's frowned upon because it's feckin' rude. Folks might be happy enough talking away on sidechat to one another, but there's ~20/40/60 other people who don't want to hear it. Direct comms should be used to talk your way out of a fight, if need be. Not sidechat. On a more gameplay-oriented note. People who are looking for an immersive experience will obviously have that spoiled by being inexplicably linked to a psychic party-line 24/7.

    Thermite Grenade

@ N29. Thermite isn't really any more dangerous than a lot of other stuff that's readily available in the US, so I'm not very surprised that a weaponised version shows up at gun-expo's. When I think of thermite, I think of it's uses in engineering, railways etc., not military Anti-Materiel. If something such as this is going to make it into DayZ, it'd make more sense as an ultra-rare industrial-use material than a military-issue grenade. Players could then use it as a weapon if they wish. I might be wrong, but a thermite-grenade doesn't sound like a common bit of kit. Definitely not one one which would show up in a military-aid situation (crashed helicopter). And probably not one which would be readily found on-base. Again though, I might be wrong. (Waiting for Gews to post an official "Please find enclosed; Your boots, fatigues and Thermite-Grenades" conscript letter.)

    Group system.

If someone has the patience and skill to stalk your team, dress up exactly like one of your buddies and infiltrate your group, you'd just have to man-up and admit you got outplayed. Simple communication and a little bit of caution would prevent it. Nobody needs a role-call, strict formation or anything like that. Though, every little helps. A lot of the best gameplay moments come from the tension of seeing (or not seeing) other players, not the actual interaction. Honestly, reducing players' need to stay vigilant would ruin a vital part of the game. EDIT: Different builds or ways of moving would definitely add variation in characters, and make for a better experience overall. I'm just saying it's not absolutely essential, if you're careful.

    Group system.

Paying attention (so as to avoid friendly-fire) is your duty. :P More character variety in SA will make spotting buddies easier. Even if it's not fool-proof. Auto IFF (or other identifying icons) just wouldn't be DayZ. Disorientation and uncertainty is at the backbone of player interaction.

Here is a crazy idea, what if there was no weapon attachments?

Of course. The fact is, if you don't want to add optics/grips etc. you can still choose not to. Choice is the main thing. Personally, I wouldn't be running around looking to fill every rail with an attachment, but I like the idea of swapping bits and bobs to suit myself. Eg. If I happen across an AR with an already attached Holo-sight, I'd probably take it off. (I just don't like them) Developing features to allow folks to make these kinds of decisions based purely on their preferences (and luck in scavenging ;)) is a smart move IMO.

Here is a crazy idea, what if there was no weapon attachments?

Equally, people who are dead-set on getting AR-variants and other "Western" gear don't seem to understand that there are better and more common (in Europe) weapons and items available in the world, which would be more suitable for the Chernarus setting.

Here is a crazy idea, what if there was no weapon attachments?

It's not about where anything is made. It's simply an issue of where these weapons would be in service or otherwise commonly found. That post sums it up nicely, but making Chernarus Eastern-Bloc means even with "an eclectic mixture of things", US military-issue gear shouldn't be standard fare. I'm fully supportive of having variety in the objects/items/weapons in game, but PROPORTION is key. We wouldn't want every car to be a Skoda. But having everyone drive a Chrysler would be equally ridiculous. @ OP. It wouldn't be a deal-breaker, but it would be a shame to not allow for a little customisation. That said; unless there's a decent variety of mods, optics and attachments, there's still quite a cap on how "unique" any weapon could ever be.
  12. Cheers for that, Smash. Been away for a while. This is exactly what I needed. You're a star.

    [SA Suggestion]: Taking Cover

Stance adjustment and Q/E leaning will fill that role. Cover systems tend to cheapen gameplay and restrict players rather than assist them. I'm sure some folks are fans, but I'm not.

PLEASE MAKE THE DAY Z SA MORE GAMEPAD COMPATABLE!!!!!!!!

Use whatever you find most comfortable.Everyone should custom map their controls to suit themselves. It's all about getting used to what does what so your muscle-memory takes over and controlling the game becomes a reflex. http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/139422-sa-controls/#entry1368768

Well, the lower the number of folks who realise the SA is released, the easier Rocket and co.'s jobs are going to be.If a release date's announced and folks have time to prepare for it, Day 1 will be chockablock with folks trying to play. If they don't announce it at all, they're less likely to be inundated with players. EDIT: That's not insider info. Just my take on things.

Solution to Rocket's Accessibility vs Discoordination Debate

Yeah, but on an overcast day when you can't distinguish any cloud movement or see the sun and shadows clearly, or a cloudy night when you can't see the stars, you should still be able to tell wind direction easy as pie. What I mean is to have some slight movement in the trees and grass (like when a helo takes off) in a "rough enough to guess by" direction. From what I can tell, the grass and foliage of ArmA do move naturally (and the weather affects how much), but independent of the "west to east" of the clouds and with no apparent indication of wind-direction. I just feel it's a missed opportunity for another natural (not particularly reliable) navigation tool.

    Smelling Makes Scents!

Never noticed this topic before. In my experience Bear Grylls-ing, animals can smell soap/detergent/deodorant on you too. So zeds would likely be the same. Odourless soap isn't all that common. Most of it is perfumed. Maybe proper odourless soap would be like the NVGs of the toiletries department?

    Vehicle Direct Comms Idea

I'd play nothing but Beautiful South on repeat, just for all the folks who seem to hate the idea of radios.

Solution to Rocket's Accessibility vs Discoordination Debate

Well, from the ant's-eye view you get while walking in the forest, the outside edge is only really apparent after you've walked past it.I've seen myself getting lost for a good hour or two on an overcast Chernarus Day. Sometimes you just can't tell which way is up. An idea I had, for a kind of "guesswork-navigation", was prevailing wind. Letting folks have a rough idea of which way they're facing would probably help stop them wandering out of the map without realising.

    Infections

Oh you mean that reiteration which Clumzy and Trizzo had to literally squeeze out of you? From the 4th page of a 5 page crybaby topic? Wow. Everyone except you must be totally clueless, right? Now you're hanging out in your own topic just to get the last word and try to silence anyone who points out how stupid this is. I have a suggestion for you. Get a fucking grip. There are topics for discussion of the latest patch. Use them.

    Infections

What's ridiculous is this topic remaining un-'yarded. Seriously. Where's the suggestion? This is just you bitching about antibiotics.

    Third person idea

As a mod, the game wasn't fully required to make its own mark or have its own style. For a fully fledged title there's no more need to stand in the shadow of ArmA2. No size of shitstorm is worth letting the quantity of gamers be more important than the quality of the game. When Rocket, and other folks, have said "wait until after testing/release to see if DayZ is for you." it's taken as some kind of a joke. Really it's the most important thing to consider.

Is this really keeping you up all night? That's a shame, kiddo. Get some meds or something. That's not healthy. You're allowed to dislike something, but when you start crying, I'm allowed to take the piss out of you. It's the rules.

It had to be done. The crying and feet-stomping about radios clearly didn't deserve a response. I invented a new little thing called a "cassette-tape". Stick your immortal DJ theory right up your ass. :emptycan:
