  1. I know exactly what you mean, but the DayZ "runners" are the absolute best way to keep people on their toes. Rocket already wants to have a Zombie life cycle (where I assume they eventually become "Shambly" and quiet) and in the standalone I would assume a stamina/endurance level will feature. So sprinting endlessly from cross country champion Zeds won't be an option anymore. Even that in itself will make losing them generally more of a challenge. And by then Zeds will probably be able to run inside (thank fuck) counteracting atleast some of the "Run like a madman to lose them" tactics. Hopefully encouraging more (attempted) stealth scavenging
  2. The more complicated and difficult the better. Remove pop. count, Name tags (even during text chat and VoIP)and kill messages Make zombies headshot only, and all that other badass stuff (communicating, grouping up, hunting players) Make applicable tools wear out (run out of matches, military flashlight out of batteries etc.) DayZ just needs to be generally less easy
  3. I know what you mean, but I like to know for certain that I'm hidden when lying in grass and stuff. (Like you would be able to IRL) And not break my legs crawling over twigs. (which I'm sure won't be a problem in standalone) That's why I like the Line of Sight idea a LOT. But it might be hard to implement something like that, though everything on screen is rendered client side (obviously) so it might not be impossible when the modding community get their hands on all Rockets stuff. Here's hoping!!
  4. Wow, one sentence out of context, you're a true hero. Get a grip or go QQ about hackers somewhere else. EDIT: Rockets whole outlook, from what I've read, is to give everybody freedom to play as they wish. Removing options/weapons from the game would be exactly the same as punishing bandits (I am not a bandit in game) Don't quote my perfectly valid point and then try to make me look stupid. That's not cool
  5. yeah but if you've logged out and I've found your car, you bet I'll go find the parts! (either that or I'll take some more parts off it just for the craic) Moo hoo hoo hoo ha haaaaaa
  6. @dgeesio Look at the floor in front of you, that is all the money everyone has paid for the DayZ, that's right NOTHING! And you can keep it all to yourself if you want (but the modding community will be at your door with pitchforks and torches) "I want my fair share of the NO MONEY that you made!" "Hello Palm? This is Face. See you very soon!"
  7. I'll see your firestation shotgun/Deerstand glock , and raise you one M16 with underslung grenade launcher  Personally, I've been jumped by bandits on the coast, and I think it just adds flavour to the game (variety is the spice of life, can't always be easy for survivors) But when rampant hacking is a thing of the past, most bandits probably wouldn't want to risk camping the south coast for N00bz because heroes (myself included) will be on the lookout. The only reason to run from the coast will be if you're wearing a shemagh. EDIT: Contrary to popular belief, there are those of us who don't just want to kill everything in sight. Wait until I don't have to risk getting my ass teleported to death first though.
  8. Names shouldn't be in game for all to see, especially not in VoIP and death messages. You shouldn't know who's shouting at you, or who shot you. You shouldn't even be able to tell is someone is dead unless you saw it with your own eyes. If you saw this "faggot" IRL in the street, across the road from you, and he shouted at you "Hey, look over here!" would you know his name from that? Unless you're some kind of psychic I'm guessing the answer is NO When standalone comes, hopefully there's an option to customise characters, simply for the ability to recognise somebody. Until then, be smarter, and don't let anyone get the drop on you. You only have yourself to blame.
  9. Wait... So you want to spawn all the bandits beside the high-spec military gear? To stop them from easily killing survivors... If you spawned at Berezino, there are military tents to the west, the NW airfield is roughly Balota to Elektro distance, and Stary is on the way there. I think I prefer the current spawn system TBH.
  10. If anything the M136 should be staight up swapped for RPG-7 purely to go with the scenery. While I understand that it doesn't make sense to use these weapons in an apocalyptic setting, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that they would be in a military base somewhere. Strictly speaking there's no NEED for any firearms if average Joe is just going about his business trying to survive, but that's not the point, we're supposed to be able to do what we want. Any long range explosives are a bit OTT in my book, but then so are anti materiel rifles. I still wouldn't want anything removed, I just think there should be mainly Russian/European weapons. I think there should be more variety and choice along with WAY, WAY increased rarity for ALL military gear.

    Back to basics

Not at all, I got a rabbit with an AS50 from just short of 600 metres. Good use of Gammy Leg (Rabbit spotter) with his rangefinder, the only sniper kill I ever made.
  12. I could use this for my subterranean hydroponic setup, for growing um.... vegetables ;)
  13. NOOOOOO! It's not supposed to be easy! Spawns should be completely random, and the pop up writing with your location on spawn should definitely be removed from standalone! If anything there should be a "spawn with buddies" feature but you should still be lost to start with. Just everyone is lost together! :D I would like to see some proper mountains that are just impossible to cross. Good excuse to implement caves, and bears!

    Back to basics

Should make soldier zombies at the military installations wear proper kevlar helmets (so headshots would have to be faceshots and are a LOT harder to pull off) to increase the danger at the NW airfield / Stary tents etc. Might encourage people to prepare more before assaulting high yield loot spawns.
  15. mr_chabowski@live.co.uk

    Back to basics

There are a lot of people who think the same, I'm included. If you've played Lingor island before you'll have seen what making "Good loot" easier to find does. It ruins the game basically. I think when the player characters lose the infinite stamina we have now, and when zombies get beefed up (not individuals, but hordes) the survival adventure struggle I remember fondly will come back. It kinda sucks when you learn the map enough that you can't get properly "lost" anymore.

    Padlock doors

Could use this to lock the big pointless factory at Stary and one in Dolina (I think) to store vehicles in!
  17. Mountain Dew? How chuffed would you be if Rocket gave you a Mountain Dew?!
  18. I guess sarcasm doesn't translate well into text huh? I just assumed the distance between the point of focus and the point where the 3rd person camera is was larger than the distance in first person. I know I know, I should never assume, but who can be arsed measuring? It doesn't bother me to be honest, I was trying to defend the way the game is now. I can see you guys are dead set on your Hardcore 1st person banter, I just don't like seeing anyone hate on those who chose a different playstyle. Both viewmodes have advantages (How anyone can shoot in 3rd person is beyond me.) But back (I think) on topic, on 3dp servers nobody is at a disadvantage unless it is self imposed. BTW what's your FOV from up on your high horse? ^_^
  19. Well fuck me sideways, U is way smart more than me is. You can see a larger portion of the area in front of you and to the sides if the camera moves back. Maybe I meant it can increase your View of a Field? While we're making players informed, There's a zoom out key (Guessing that doesn't change FOV either now, What is real?! :( ) It helps if you're in the ironsights view to get a look at a larger area , and your aim adjustment is significantly faster. by default it's bound to "numpad -" (minus) it's not so handy over there, but I like to be in 1st person if I expect a firefight (in cities/airfields) and it's a useful function. IMO *away to look up FOV on wikipedia* EDIT: Fuck that, was all equations n shit. I like sliders and default resolutions. OH, and zoom buttons.
  20. Get a goddam job Al. You got a negative attitude
  21. I was just having a laugh, To be honest the OP is a good concept, but people have to realise it's a lot of work to filter/manage thousands of post in a forum, or compile lists of what will and won't be included, and it's a lot of work that the devs working on the standalone don't have time for at the moment. I would rather let them handle these issues as they see fit, and try not to worry about it. Have a little faith. I'm pretty sure there will be a massive press release before the release hits (at the demand of the community no doubt) I must say I never even considered industrial espionage, (but looking at what WarZ devs are showing off I don't think there's much need to worry)
  22. I'm with 3rdParty on this one. The following DayZ has would allow it to survive any slew of bad press it could potentially receive. I know for a fact, if there were zombie children in game trying to murder your characters face off, and having to kill them to survive truly shook a persons morality and brought about emotional trauma IRL, then the addition was a success, because that's the kind of reaction this project SHOULD be creating. Every interview I have seen with Rocket, when asked if he intends to make the game more accessible and fun, he plainly states, it was never intended to be fun. Granted there would probably have to be an option to disable kinderzombies per server. But that should be at the discretion of individuals / admins, not a globally enforced ban on their inclusion. Far worse things have been portrayed in other forms of art, and taking people further out of their comfort zone than they would expect is well within the scope of this project.
  23. I had a shot of Lingor, and I know where you're coming from, but that's not the game I want to play. Seriously, within 5 minutes (not even exaggerating) I had 5 grenades M4A1 and all the mags I could carry. Wandered into what looked like a hotel, found 2 ghillie suits sitting on the floor. WTF? I'm all for community produced material, but it's basically turned into PvP central over at Lingor. I know a lot of people like that sort of thing, and it's supposed to be part of the game, just not the sole focus. Next map is DayZ - Big fuckoff box o' nukes island.
  24. I was paying attention to the discussion as it unfolded on the petition site also. It would seem that any Greek nationals who had a negative comment were ill informed, probably owing to a massive web of propaganda. I don't blame anyone for wanting to trust that their government is making the right choice. But when they're clearly using very poor evidence and false information to force a particular view on the subject YOUR GOVERNMENT IS LYING TO YOU Just calling it how I see it, like it or lump it. http://www.helpivanmartin.org/ - show your support.
