There's a surrender button. You have to map it to a key yourself. It's in the control options

Making DayZ harder (less bandits?)
[email protected] replied to Snablas's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If making survival more difficult created even more need for banditry, it would still be a good thing because they're killing others out of necessity because they need to survive. It will certainly reduce pointless KoS with no intention to loot, and personally, I believe it will make players show their true colours. I would like to think I could maintain my friendly and helpful attitude, but you really never know, when push comes to shove, what you might end up doing. It could cause groups of dedicated Heroes (anti bandits) to either band together stronger than ever, or fall to pieces fighting for survival to the bitter end. Same with bandit groups. More people to watch your back means more mouths to feed. -
I agree with the idea of never feeling like the job is over and you can relax, but imagine how pissed off you would be if a Zed 1-shotted your NVGs right off your face! Would be hilarious if it happened to somebody else though.

Here's hoping standalone has weapon magazines as mini containers, and individual rounds counted as the items to go in them. Pretty sure there are already a few topics along the same lines as this. *smokebomb*

If zombies like chocolate, it might get fatty to start running.

Do Epi-pens stop shock at all? I never pick them up, but that's what I thought they did (as well as getting K.O'd buddies up quicker) @CerbUn313 - Painkillers stop shaky hands, shock is the white symbol that isn't a broken leg. Usually get it after trying to drive an ATV over a bridge.

to save your location, you must sleep.

Most would rather lose the last tin of beans they found than lose all their gear. There shouldn't be a "saving" system. Anything along those lines is open to a LOT of abuse. -

[email protected] replied to camycamera's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I agree with wanting to stop alt+f4ers, but what you suggested would only mean alt+f4ers log in at their latest bed after they abort. So it doesn't solve anything unless you find their bed and put a beartrap in it. Even if there was simply a "going to sleep" animation played along with a logout timer, alt+f4 would still just quit the game instantly. There's no easy fix. You also have to think about legitimate disconnections (time out, high ping and admin kick) before punishing someone for simply leaving the game. Maybe the alt+f4 shortcut should be given a function in DayZ itelf, to have your character commit suicide if you really want to quit so badly. This combined with the sleep animation + logout timer might be a solution. -
Collectibles - encourage survival
[email protected] replied to lolsworth's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The theme of DayZ is one of survival, acting out of necessity. All the "collectibles" are items which serve a purpose in your struggle to survive. If there are a set of items scattered across the country, the purpose these items will serve once you collect them all should be the reason for them existing. We already have vehicles as a prime example. Maybe there could be many components to build a radio? Which could broadcast chopper crash locations, or allow long distance VoIP. Unless, like Riem mentioned, they're scraps torn from a diary, or newspaper articles alluding to events leading up to DayZ. Something to add to the apocalyptic feel without ruining the sense of mystery. It's hard for me to explain without sounding like a complete chode. -
Did I miss something?

Some nice ideas there, a few of which I expect to see in the standalone in one form or another. Some of your suggestions are a bit of a stretch though. Claiming towns, while it sounds like a good plan, would probably be more trouble than it's worth (making a target of yourself for other players) and holding the fort would soon get boring. I like the car key / hotwire idea, but after a car ignition has been rigged once, you wouldn't need a key. And trains, if repaired, would be extremely vulnerable to ambush. I don't think extremes of temperature, or drastically different biomes will be introduced at all, maybe a high altitude area with snow-capped peaks, but the map is WAY too small to have varying climates. Climbing, on the other hand, would be a great addition in certain situations. I'm not talking Assassins Creed or anything, but climbing up head high walls and on top of cargo containers would be cool, especially when Zeds start swarming all around! Rock climbing would also be nice to see, but there aren't any cliffs on the map. It would probably mean a big change in gameplay mechanics, but that's what alpha is for. Certainly plausible with a new engine free from the restrictions of ArmA 2.

This is why McDonalds are everywhere. Not every country has NHS, and not everyone can afford medical insurance. In some places a £1.29 double cheeseburger is the best you can hope for if you're shot a couple of times. Or a McFlurry when a door breaks your leg. EDIT: Back to reality - With blood regeneration over time, more encounters will have you fearing for your life. The way it should be. It would also stop everyone from always being perfectly healthy. Food shouldn't give a set quantity of blood. That always feels a bit retro, like Streets of Rage turkeys.

There should be an option for "No - I don't need it I have a hatchet."

My Super Awesome Idea For DayZ.
[email protected] replied to LuckyTrident73's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
:o *Locks doors* *Closes Blinds* -
I wouldn't be trusting the soap and water tactics :P Would be badass though. Maybe an impassable area with a military installation on the far side of it would be less hole-poke-able? I can picture it now.... Big hills, cliffs all around, something I haven't thought of yet to stop helichoppers just flying there, and a big huge reactor meltdown of instant death conveniently in the way! Luvvit.

Wouldn't any military loot you find be dangerously irradiated anyway? If you find a military base inside a radioactive area and steal weapons/tools from it, you would have to keep your hazmat suit on the whole time you are near this irradiated loot. Would be a funny trap for bandits, but it wouldn't be much use to you. (unless you want to run about in a yellow plastic 1-piece all the time.)
-
I'm picturing an alice pack with the grenade underneath it, where if you lift the bag, you get just enough time to realise it was a trap before *BOOM* Does anyone know, would the weight of a backpack be enough to hold down the spring on a grenade if you pulled the pin and laid the bag on top of it? If you had to add something to the bag to weigh it down, that would serve as a hint to be wary of it. EDIT: I love this idea, somebody phone Rocket, quick!

This should definitely be implemented. If you really want to get rid of a body, to hide evidence, there should be a way to burn them with a jerrycan and a box of matches. Drag the body to a secluded spot, set it on fire, it burns for a minute or two, then the body would become an unlootable skeleton, and there would be no flies noise.

Zombies: Faster and Headshot Only
[email protected] replied to catface.jpg's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
So.... what's your point? You can work wikimedicaldiagnosticianopedia? Gold star for you. If you stop flow of blood, by stopping/removing/destroying the heart through ANY means. It does not mean instant death. I trust you conveniently missed my point because you just don't want to have to headshot zombies in DayZ, Firstly, a bullet is focussing a large amount of kinetic energy onto a small area and is designed to penetrate. It will not knock anyone on their ass, that only happens in films. Secondly, your muscles will still function temporarily with the blood that's already in them, they are not hydraulic. Thirdly, if someone has their heart "blasted to smithereens" IRL they would most likely enter a state of shock until they eventually lost conciousness due to lack of cerebral perfusion. (blood going to their brain) If you want a bullet in the heart to stop your foe instantly, pain does indeed factor into it. So you could shoot a zombie in the heart, then run around for 5-10 minutes, or just SHOOT THEM IN THE HEAD EDIT: for clarity -
The ammo names shouldn't give any hints as to what gun they are for, it would add another layer to immersion. It would also be far better if ammunition was found in boxes as opposed to just mags all over. I'm not saying you wouldn't be able to find a loaded magazine somewhere, but you would be more likely to find boxes of bullets and use them to fill empty magazines. 9mm rounds do my tit right in, especially M9 magazines. "Why can't I just take the bullets out of the glock mag and put them in this one?! WHY?!" If you found a couple of magazines with your gun they would most likely be full, or have a few rounds left, but you should be required to keep magazines that have run out and refill them. It could also be a point for cooperation, since more people would be using the same ammo types, and could fill mags for eachother, share boxes of bullets between a group, etc. etc.

Not true. Player interaction, is any action made possible by the presence of other players. The fact that everyone shoots eachother is more because they lack either empathy, or social skills. Player interaction and Shoot on sight are not the same thing, but killing other players is an interaction. Just not the one I would promote. Pure PvPers are just either too lazy or ignorant. Doesn't bother me. What I'm trying to tell you is, just because you are friendly, doesn't mean you're not susceptible to PvP. It's part of the game, and the only part some people care about. And these people will soon get bored, because they've ignored the majority of available gameplay.

There are 3 airfields in Chernarus, but I wouldn't like to try landing a plane on any of them! An unarmed VTOL would be cool, but useless. (would still park it up for bragging rights) Civilian helicopters should be introduced though. The way it is now, there's always one group with a chopper, and it usually never sees the light of day because they're afraid to lose it! It would be better overall if more vehicles could be repaired, so that nobody could monopolize the transport on the map,
