    Psychopaths

I like the Psychopath idea, but the running boost idea has been done. Why not make them able to eat raw meat without cooking it? Or Zombies aggro them less often? Get creative. I've met a few legitimate bandits in my time, and they shouldn't have to be tarred with the same brush as CoD kiddies. The hero skin is the sign of someone who made the concious effort to not take the lazy assholes easy route of just shooting everybody. I earned it though hard work and taking risks to help people. To trivialise that by making it lootable by bandits is just one more benefit to KoSers. If you want to play a shit game, wait for warZ, don't try and drag DayZ down.
  2. Awww!!!! ^_^ That's cute seeing you stamp your little feet. You fail. The ArmA 2 audio engine was poorly implemented, certain hardware combinations are buggy. I don't care what soundcard or headset your granny got you for Christmas. If you're too lazy to read, go phone the DayZ partyline, and be wrong there instead.

    Tv ads

See the size of the community now, and remember that was with ZERO advertising. Word of mouth is the best way to spread the news. As soon as I heard of DayZ I knew I wanted a piece of that action, it should be a universal rule for fans of this kind of idea. If people haven't already checked it out just out of curiosity from hearing about it, no amount of TV coverage will help.
  4. I think Rocket has sort of indicated character specific passive skill boosts (doctors / mechanics / hunters etc.) as his way of adding value to player lives. I've got no Idea if that means he's seriously considering it, but as long as it doesn't give any player an advantage in combat mechanics I like it. It would give particular roles to players who choose to play as a team, without being unfair to the lonewolf playstyle. Weapon skill is a big no no in my book, the playing field is level when it comes to PvP (apart from weapons per player) and that's the way it should stay.
  5. Maybe from 20ft away, if there was no wind. If you see that from sniper range, you've earned that kill. That's some Hawkeye shit right there! ;)
  6. Atleast you aim low, so you don't disappoint yourself. Hardly an achievement like Get back up to hero skin and you'll have earned some beans.

    Stun Grenades

Nothing would be out of place in the situation DayZ puts you in. While scavenging you could potentially find ANYTHING. The unrealistic part is the lack of variety in weapons and loot. If there was more police loot I can definitely see nonlethal grenades making an appearance. Flashbangs would work wonders at night, particularly against NVGs. (temporarily blinded and deafened in a Zombie apocalypse = FUCKED) Stun grenades would be handy indoors if you're not quite sure where your enemy is exactly (stun grenades are the ones that launch little bouncy balls and hurt like fuck right?) Both would attract a lot of attention from Zeds. Good shout Hockeyguy, we need more potential cool finds. :beans:
  8. AS-50, L85, M9SD, Ghillie suit? Even I would consider putting a slug in your dome if I saw you poking out of a bush like a dodger. And I'm a proper good guy. Don't get pissed about losing your stuff, scavenging as a n00b is some of the best fun you can have! I sometimes just throw all my stuff in a tent, jump on a bike, and go on a hatchet-only zombie hunt/n00b assist in Cherno. Get's me shot at a lot, but it's good banter.
  9. Even most normally friendly players would be wary of anyone rockin' an AS50 and L85 wearing a ghillie suit. just out of curiosity, M9SD or PDW?
  10. Must be on that soap bar. More than 70% Tesco bag. (the plastic is the best bit)
  11. Have to add, sawed off golf club, rolled up "big issue" and "Yer maws tights wie a tattie doon each leg" as weapons. "Oi ya jakey fucker, git oor here til I gie ye a crack oor the nut!"
  12. Smoking IRL stops hunger pangs, Lowers blood pressure (makes you feel less cold when it's cold out) Calms you down (if you're a smoker) Eases pain (I mean injury, but probably emotional too) So along with the friendly banter, and currency options. There are measurable physical effects. Anyone who doesn't smoke has no right to complain at this topic. It's a hypothetical situation in a fictional environment. And without experience you have no reference for any of these facts being wrong, only your opinion. How does that work? If you can't even see a chemlight at 100m how could you possibly see the head of a cigarette? Maybe if you're in the same room as the sniper and you ask him for a light. Or your Rizla rips the skin off your lip "OW YA BASTARD!!"

    GPS Options

I don't think the satellites orbits would degrade, in fact I'm pretty sure they would be able to operate for years without people monitoring them. If I remember right, the atomic clocks in GPS satellites don't match the rotation of the Earth, so they end up behind by something like 0.7 seconds per year. I'm guessing the GPS locator would get less and less accurate as time goes by. In any case the GPS makes navigation in game too easy, it should be removed simply because of that. EDIT: Looked it up, Wikipedia says to match clocks on the ground, GPST should be adding 1 leap second every 18 months.
  14. Nothing ever needed to promote PvP, the players took it with them when they washed up on shore. <_< And the only handicap for new spawns vs. other new spawns, is luck of the loot. (1 guy with a hatchet by himself against 2 guys with 1 hatchet between them is still a pretty fair fight) I think Zeppa gets it. Beginner scavenging puts more pressure on resources, so the advantage of having a few buddies with you cancels itself out. You need to feed and arm every person, and the more survivors you have with you, the more likely you are to get spotted by Zeds or bandits.
  15. Would need someone who's better with numbers than I am to make it fit, but I just like the idea of having to manage the state of your health. To heal over time makes sense, and suits the survival theme better than having to eat your bodyweight in beans because you've been shot. I like the idea of constant healing but at different rates. If hunger was measured as a percentage, a sliding scale could calculate your "regen% per second" behind the scenes as different actions make you more hungry, and different foods fill you up for varying times and different amounts. If all the numbers and calculations are hidden from us (no debug menus or health bars) it would feel natural, as long as it's obvious when you're weakened, and you can tell when you're getting hungry. (different idle animations or something?) I just thought healing should burn your hunger down faster because I imagined food purely as fuel for your body, and whether it would help to heal you up or not, you wouldn't be able to eat unless you were already hungry. (without making yourself sick)
  16. I imagine it would be mainly weapons that are only just functioning, but a couple of bits are in better condition, so you would keep a hold of the good bits when the rest is completely beyond fixing. Inspecting a weapon you find JUST to see if it has the bits you need might leave you in danger while you're distracted ^_^ I think weapons in standalone will have to be pretty beat up when we find them to make salvaging parts necessary. Otherwise you could just get a new gun when yours eventually breaks. EDIT: It would be easier to replace bits on a mostly functional weapon than it would be to build a brand new one out of salvaged parts.
  17. Rocket has also said being alone and lost is part of the adventure. I used to think spawning as a group would be helpful, but in my experience, the group find better gear when we salvage seperately and meet up later. Maybe this is the exact sort of thing that should be trialled in the Mod first, I just don't think it would turn out as good as it initially appears.
  18. My creative audioblahblah, is pretty good, I just haven't switched back to surround since the screeching metal scraping noises that came from ArmA 2 (strangely I don't think Operation Arrowhead ever did it, but I never played any of its built in campaigns) @asin that would be pretty good if it was just a quick flash and then gone. If anyone has ever played CoD or BF3, you'll know how stupid it looks to have damage indicators rotate with your view.
  19. @Skrewy - Pre-machined weapon parts are made to be easy to swap out. Otherwise how are you supposed to refit or maintain military weapons in the field? I agree you likely wouldn't be building a gun from scratch, but you probably would be able to replace most worn weapon parts required if a compatible part was there. AKM and AK47 springs and bolts are ALL made to be interchangeable for example.@NavyCuda - Maintenance +1 , salvage +1. If DayZ steers clear of a basic "% durability" bar (eg. Fallout 3) it would require care, and knowledge of your own weapon and it's parts, to keep it in full working order.EDIT: I'm hoping weapon maintenance in standalone is going to be a bit like vehicle maintenance is now, but more in depth.
  20. Would be nice to have to option for custom stock/mechanism combinations, but more than likely far too complicated. If it were to be implemented, I picture it more as a personal preference thing, alongside "vanilla" weapon spawns, probably providing quicker drawing, or steadier shouldering. To have parts spawn "instead" of guns would be unrealistic (not that it's realistic now, but you get my point). Unless a cargo plane carrying weapon parts to a machining factory exploded over the country. :P But lightweight frames, extended and weighted barrels, custom grips etc. would make really nice weapon mods.
  21. It's not getting sniped that's the problem. For anyone who's been playing more than a month, you literally have to try to get hit by these "snipers". The only reason they fight at range is so that when they know you're coming, they have time to log out before you can kill them. It's watching "Bambi McN00blet" getting popped 20 times in an hour then never playing the game again that pisses me off. And you can shout "They should get better." all you want, because they SHOULD get better. But while these "rare" rifles are being misused, and are more common than sand in a desert, that's NEVER going to happen. It's pushing the future of the community away, and without more players, we won't have a successful standalone game.
  22. And that weekend inspired Rocket to make DayZ
  23. You couldn't regen blood while AFK if your blood stopped filling when you were hungry, thirsty or cold. IRL you need to keep your body healthy, hydrated, fed and comfortable to aid healing. So it should be that way in DayZ. Make hunger go down faster when you're healing, but make food only fill hunger NOT blood. So to fill 12000 blood you would have to eat maybe 4 steaks, but over the course of an hour or two, while your body heals. And a blood bag should give a maximum of 3000 blood back over a couple of minutes instead of just making you fine again instantly. It would make running away the better option in some situations, and would make you even more wary of most encounters with players. EDIT: You should also naturally heal 20% faster while sitting at a campfire (resting)
  24. I had to turn my speakers to stereo, because ArmA 2 had a wierd sound glitch. I don't know if DayZ does it, but I haven't changed it back yet. And yeah, it's a pain in the ass. I can only tell if the shot was from in front or behind! There's another topic regarding people who are hard of hearing, that might be relevant to this too. The option could probably be linked to server difficulty rules if it is included. Inb4 it's not authentic EDIT: As a side note, can anybody tell me if that sound distortion glitch (if you know what I'm talking about) is still in DayZ?
