It would either dig into the dirt and you'd never get it back out, or slide about uncontrollably and probably get you killed when you try and book it offroad. Thing must weigh about 400lbs. One good collision and you'll be very dead after not very long. GSX-R1000 in good racing condition would be hitting near 300km/h top speed down an airstrip, it would be well beyond usless on grass. All in all, not a good idea.

Move 9mm SMGs to the Sidearm Slot
[email protected] replied to xQlusive (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I always thought the "sidearm" slot was the pistol holster on the dudes leg (hero skin, can't remember if survivor skin has one) in which case, an MP5 just wouldn't fit. If you're going to make MP5s sidearms, I want a sawed off DB shotgun as my sidearm. I think weapon storage needs revamped (no way a M107 takes up the same storage space as 2 makarovs) so the smaller primary weapons should be handled differently (takes less slots, unholster faster etc.), but not to the extent that all other secondary weapons become useless. It would unbalance PvP even further because the loot farmers would be rocking 2 rifle grip weapons, and n00bs wouldn't stand a chance. -
Petition to remove Krutory Cap spawn
[email protected] replied to basilone's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
It is a consequence of death. If you want to spawn only in Elektro with your buddies and your superiority disorder, this isn't the game for you. Don't sit and rattle out bullshit excuses. You're a lazy ass KoSer, you don't play the game properly, and you want to change it to suit your laziness. Not happening. -
It comes to my attention now and again, that many people on the suggestions section of the forums feel that the game needs to be more difficult. I support this idea 100%. The problem is the number of people who view any attempt to encourage grouping up or player interaction by making things harder, as a punishment to any lonewolf players. It's not a bad thing to try and make survival less of a walk in the park is it? It makes sense that banding together would make the job of living off the land and surviving the apocalypse just a little bit easier. Surely there's more to be gained from the struggle to survive than from survival itself. if you were able to keep your character alive indefinitely without any effort, why bother? Having a community survive and thrive through cooperation, clearly gives them an advantage. That doesn't mean anyone else has been punished, it would be immature to think so. Still, too often, suggestion threads full of good ideas are being shot down simply because the community seems to perceive some sort of vendetta against players who aren't part of a group or clan. The wilderness should be harsh, it should be extremely difficult to survive alone. It's never going to be impossible for one man to trek Chernarus by himself, but I think it should be a LOT harder in general, for everyone! The solo playstyle should be able to accomplish any task that a group can. That doesn't mean the two should have the same difficulty in reaching their goals. There should be parts of DayZ where, before getting involved, a single player would think twice. I personally love adventuring by myself. I find it easier to approach a stranger to offer assistance when I'm not part of a group, people are not so intimidated by just one guy. I also understand that many play alone not by choice, but out of necessity. If the whole world of DayZ was a harsher place, I think there would be more strangers willing to either accept or offer a helping hand from time to time. Of course there's always mistrust, there always will be, with good reason too, but that's part of the charm. If this topic has been brought up before, don't start chewing my ass out for it, I searched and found nothing along these lines. This is the first time I've felt the need to create a topic, I look forward to hearing other players views on the subject. tl:dr - More difficulty ≠ punishment to lonewolves

The Most Overlooked Part of DayZ - What will happen to it in the Standalone?
[email protected] replied to Timberwolf (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The potential is there, obviously. DayZ as it stands, is a 'proof of' concept, basically just to see if an online zombie apocalypse sim was possible. It's been a huge success. When it comes to the full release, this is only the very beginning, the tip of the iceberg for zombie AI, grouping/hoarding behaviour, reaction to player input etc. The future of DayZ is unwritten, and Rockets' ideas (from what I've seen) sound amazing. It's not a matter of "is it possible?". More a case of "how do we make it possible?" Zombies should be the focus of players attention. Zombie media tells us: In a zombie apocalypse, when you start to get complacent, you get dead. No matter how much survival or PvP or disease and health management are added - Zombies should constantly be a MAJOR threat. They might be stupid, but they're not going to stop until they eat you. -

Doesn't help that the "average life expectancy" means nothing. Because people are jumping off lighthouses when they don't spawn near their buddies. I imagine at some point he's looked at the stats (I'm guessing he's too busy to get much play time in) It's clearly not giving an accurate view of things. it's a real shame too. The way Rocket puts his intentions across in interviews shows massive potential. -

An empty can rattles loudest. Any complaint that the game is "too difficult" in any way, is obviously made by someone who is either playing the wrong game, or simply doesn't understand. I always thought making things hard to accomplish was what DayZ set out to achieve. From what I can tell, the section of the community who appreciated the "brutal and unforgiving survival" of the DayZ "proof of" concept, have too much humility. And the crowd calling to simplify everything and make it easier, have too much volume and self importance. I hope the Dev team haven't caved on this matter when it comes to standalone time. -
Should be able to drink from water sources directly if you have an empty soda can or an empty JD bottle on you. But with Rockets' diseasey plans about to hit, I wouldn't want to try it. Diarrhoea tracking would be the new modern scouting technique.

water from the sea
[email protected] replied to ghillie gang johansen's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
It's not like when you swim in a lake and swallow some by accident. If you're drinking pond water to survive it should be pasteurised,(71oC) before consumption. Drinking dirty water contaminated with giardiasis (where animals go #2 in the area) would cause you to have gut expulsion from all ends. Which would leave you dehydrated, then dead. Even the water pumps in towns (on all DayZ maps) are potential reservoirs of water borne diseases. I'm not sure if I'd rather die from diarrhoea or being eaten. Probably go with being eaten. -

^This^ - DayZ doesn't force anybody one way or the other, it's up to every individual to weigh the pros and cons for themselves. That's why I can't help but like the whole concept, it's all down to preference. You can have a whole squad watching your back, it just means it's many times more likely that at least one of you will catch aggro, or get the whole team spotted. It's a lot simpler to take responsibility for yourself, and only have one mouth to feed. @Siberian - It takes an exercise in judgement to decide whether to approach another survivor. It takes no effort to hide from, and kill, everyone you see. Successful player interaction is a rewarding experience. Obviously too abstract an analogy. -

News to me too. You got a link to share? I love me some infos EDIT: Also, I imagined to filter water you'd have to move water between containers. - Aqua pura. Shaken not stirred ;) -
Average life expectancy

^This^ Most CoDdies will probably suicide until they spawn in Elektro or Cherno EDIT: I've been playing for a couple of months and I've only ever spawned at Elektro once, So the chance must be fairly slim too. -

water from the sea

I pretty much assumed the wood cutting would get souped up for standalone too. Maybe it's a pipedream, maybe we'll just get nothing and told to fuck off. Only time will tell. -
So is piss, but you won't catch me trying to drink it. EDIT: I might have learned this fact from a cartoon, it might be bullshit... Bullshit might also be sterile.

water from the sea
[email protected] replied to ghillie gang johansen's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Of course I read your post, I just focussed on the negative reaction you had to complicated bits 'n' bobs. The way I see it, these things (if it comes to fruition) will become second nature to wildernessers. I know, from watching interviews, Rocket wants to make survival tough. Really tough. And I want to survive the apocalypse or die trying. A purification kit on the toolbelt (with a funky little animation) is the most likely outcome, I just picture it being slightly more complicated than *click**click**click* - pure water -

I'm talking about adding options, not forcing you to cut your toenails. I fail to understand why the thought of more potential sources of clean water so heartily offends you. In actual fact, I wouldn't be too surprised to see some of your 'piss take' suggestions in the standalone. I'm sure your deliberate exaggeration was funny when you were writing it, but you have to understand, the whole sandbox doesn't want to play by "acceptable videogame rules". EDIT: As a side note, any possible expansion on the survival and preparation side of DayZ is good in my book. There is, of course, a point where it just gets stupid. Everybody should be open to expanding the scope of DayZ, it's now new things should be trialled. It could be the best thing that ever happened! (but probably not) Just don't knock it 'til we've tried it. -
The 10 hours before sleep is 10 hours of total play time, you could still just log out without sleeping at any time, but after 10 hours your character would need to sleep. You obiously missed the point. People have better things to do with their time than log into a game to feed and water a virtual survivor who will stay where they logged out indefinitely. This will take up server space. It also entirely defeats the purpose of logging out, you might as well just leave your game running 24/7 and not play. Overall I tried to defend your suggestion and give constructive feedback, incase you didn't notice. But you propose that people would play for hours, then log out, then log back into a different server, so they could log out? Go lie down, I think you need a rest dude.

I'm just away to buy EVE offline. I'm sure the standalone will be able to give you an offline adventure, But the whole theme of DayZ is one of surviving the hordes of undead alongside HUMAN characters, controlled by Human players. Everyone else is trying to kill you by default, probably 90% of the people you meet will kill you by choice. But it is still a person making a choice. In this world NPC's just wouldn't cut it.

Is there any reason why....
[email protected] replied to BlksnshN's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
A bug I've never had, but I usually try not to leave half mags unless I'm definitely expecting some PvP. Best bet would be try everything (drop your gun, pick it up with 1 mag, reload, pick up another mag, try and reload etc.) see if it fixes itself. Must be a known glitch to somebody, ArmA has been on the go for ages, and all the guns are ArmA content. -

If I'm understanding you correctly - You now can't reload with the mousewheel menu unless you have more than 1 ammo type (eg. slugs/pellets) or your current magazine is empty. If you press 'R' you should be able to reload from a non-empty mag, provided you have another in your inventory.Hope that helps you. -
I don't remember ever seeing Mountain Dew in the shop down the road. Maybe they know something I don't? (I picture all the Mountain Dew kept in a crate like at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark)
