Third person and first person - you decide
[email protected] replied to Bombolz (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I get the feeling Rocket is the kind of guy who would rather rewrite the melee system to make it feel like a solid gameplay feature than "quick fix" it and leave it still a bit meh. -
request add this soundtrack inside DayZ Standalone

Res 2 Police station if I remember right. Love that game! Got the image of typewriting a save stuck in my head now though. EDIT: Damn too slow! :( -
Petition to remove Krutory Cap spawn
[email protected] replied to basilone's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
DayZ is not a military simulation. It's a survival simulation. If you don't want to do the "survival" part (scavenging/looting/running) you're playing the wrong game. Can't understand why you decided to whip out the unfounded "noob" remark. Was "yo' mama" busy? EDIT: indominator has it right with the loot spawns being too predictable. But the map is HUGE, even now the only reason to go to the main cities is if you're looking to KoS. Spawning in the back-of-beyond gives the opportunity to do something other than just the "best" loot run. -
Hopefully the medical overhaul Rocket is doing for standalone will separate "pain", "crippled limbs" and "blood loss" properly and more authentically than is usually expected from computer games. The days of "health packs" insta-healing should be nothing but a fond memory. When you're crawling around Chernarus, broken, battered and bleeding out, you'll remember when you could just morphine your leg better and get blood-bagged to 100% and it'll bring a tear to your eye. We can only hope...

Reworking Sniping for realism and gameplay
[email protected] replied to Nasakenai's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
All of these are very good suggestions, and expressed clearly. A rare occurrence nowadays. :P Currently, large rifles are not treated properly in terms of size and weight, I'm sure the Dev team is taking this into account. (atleast Rocket seems to want to reach paramount authenticity with DayZ) Many topics are becoming retro, owing to the frequency they get brought up. With the standalone so close to release, the best thing to do now is wait and see if the weapon handling has been updated. You know these forums are just going to be chock full of crap for the next couple of months. -
Players should be passing out all over the place anyway, simply because they're all off their tits on Morphine and Epinephrine 24/7. And eating 24 Paracetamol because you got punched in the face? Everyone should be Jaundice as fuck! If you want it to be realistic, then you wouldn't last more than a couple of days after a bullet in your leg before septicaemia causes you to burn up in fever and die in a curled up ball on the ground. Needs antibiotics + duct-tape + golf club. Broken leg = sorted! Still wouldn't be walking on it though. ^_^

Third person and first person - you decide
[email protected] replied to Bombolz (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'm starting to think the movement+perspective might be the cause of some of the nausea. (Most FPS use view models, ArmA uses the same models and animations whether you're in 3rd or 1st person view) And the head bob is clunky/unrealistic but I like to leave it on a wee bit. ^This, I forgot to mention. It's handy as fuck, and is also a solution to the "negative mouse acceleration" that I've read complaints about. I remapped mine from "2x -" to "Tab" because it's right next to "wasd", the only problem is I occasionally alt+tab when freelooking, but it's a toggle, so you don't have to hold the button down. -
Wait for it...... EDIT: While you wait, you may like to browse the pinned topic headed Please read BEFORE posting

I hate the general bandit.
[email protected] replied to Deeeenniss's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I imagine waiting to loot someone who's been scavenging all the essentials is a highly efficient gearing up method, there's nothing wrong with that. Legit bandits are ok in my book, but I have run into a lot of the alt+f4 fanny bollocks. Some even try and log back in further up the hill to get the drop. But "I ain't 'fraid of no ghost!" ^_^ -
What kind of player are you?
[email protected] replied to Rick the Survivor's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm a random good guy. Whether the vest protects or not is a moot point, how many bandits will be trying to kill you with a 9mm? If you're one of the 3 who jumped a little blue car just North of Cherno: It was self defense, and if DayZ was more realistic I would've stuck your AKs up your asses and left you to bleed out. I'm usually nice, but..... DO NOT SHOOT MY CAR ! -

Motion sickness is not the only reason people don't like 1st person. In a "man vs. wild" situation, whether in a videogame or no, having awareness of yourself in relation to your surroundings is among the most important requirements. 1st person can't fully replicate this, and the constricted perception of your characters' body position and movement are major drawbacks, which are averted with the inclusion of 3rd person view. It's not a very well balanced solution for current DayZ gameplay, as it can give an advantage in PvP, but the survival themed aspects will be built upon more in the standalone and will likely require more awareness from players. EDIT: If Rocket goes ahead with his plan to remove the HUD in favour of audio and visual cues, seeing that your character moves slower or has different idle animations would a good indication of injury/hunger/dehydration. The same indications wouldn't be so easy to express in 1st person. -
Third person and first person - you decide
[email protected] replied to Bombolz (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Reducing accuracy would be a half-decent compromise, it feels more "game" than "anti-game", but I can understand people won't bow to my personal preferences. ^_^ With a proper melee combat system (swing swing) there should be no need for a crosshair, AFAIK the hatchet in DayZ is just a remnant of a gun-based system. Back on-topic, I can't see 3dp being cut from DayZ. The "1st person über alles" movement is a (disproportionally vocal) minority. -
Third person and first person - you decide
[email protected] replied to Bombolz (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I can understand why people don't like 3dp, but I've broken legs on tree roots and stones soooo many times by crawling around in 1st person! I just use it when I'm expecting a fight or walking indoors now. DayZ needs a Field of View slider. If the FoV for 1st person was wider horizontally it would be easier to use all the time IMO. What's more important to me, is REMOVE CROSSHAIRS!!! Being able too shoot from the hip with supreme accuracy pisses me off. Even on rookie difficulty, shouldn't you have to aim your gun? -
I agree with anything that would give player characters more recognisable appearances, body silhouettes should be customisable so you should be able to pick your buddy out of a crowd even if there's other guys wearing the same jacket. Changing things like shoulder breadth and chest/abdomen height can give varying looks without adding a massively exploitable height selection. (Remember Goldeneye? Oddjob was a pain in the ass because he was so short.) If the height alterations were only slight (min=-10% max=+10%) like dragonkatol said, the exploitation is minimised, and at best, nets a very minor advantage. (though you would recognise all the "DayZ MLG" midgets, making it even funnier) This, and beards. I still think beards should grow longer as you survive longer, but if it's just for 'player identity'/'unique characters' it would help things along quite a bit. 'mon the Wolverine sideys. \m/

Petition to remove Krutory Cap spawn
[email protected] replied to basilone's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Suicide by lighthouse, or 'respawn button' deaths should all be rewarded a Krutoy Cap spawn. and unbreakable legs + no fall/zombie damage for half an hour. -
Willing to take one for the team. I look forward to hearing your report (if you're not laughing too hard)

Chernarus Plus; climate, vegetation and ground variety
[email protected] replied to Septimus's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Obviously I need to work on my fictional geography. EDIT AGAIN: Found what I was looking for here There are areas North of the Povrly river exactly the same as in Chernarus. Those Bohemia Interactive dudes are badass. Chernarus+ is going to blow peoples minds. -

‘CoD Kiddie’ Analogy Regarding PvP Is Entirely Wrong
[email protected] replied to Trizzo's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
"CoDkiddie" is the same as the word "foreigner" - everybody knows what it means when they say it, but it means different things from different perspectives. There's no need to discuss it, because from every individuals point of view, they are right. There is not one set-in-stone "way to play" DayZ, but there IS the intention Rocket had when he created it. PvP is a part of the game, it WILL happen. Friendly player interaction is also a part of the game. A seemingly less popular part, but far more rewarding if you take the chance. People will call eachother names. They will also always be convinced they are in the right, it's how people tend to work. There will always be a division, because, while players are not afraid to be involved a firefight, they are afraid to take part in social interactions. inb4- "not afraid" rant -
Weapon damage is one of those things that will probably get changed a lot during alpha/beta. I agree it doesn't make sense that you can take 16 rounds in the chest and just bandage yourself better. I just don't know if a complicated system of localised damage could work on an online game with 50+ players without putting a lot of excess pressure on servers to calculate it. I think if bleeding was multiplied by each hit taken, it would at least make a little more sense. If you're full of holes, you should bleed out WAY faster.
-
Agree hollowpoint would be more sensible, but 50 of anything that can put a hole in a skull can't be bad! :D

The Most Overlooked Part of DayZ - What will happen to it in the Standalone?
[email protected] replied to Timberwolf (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The zombies will be updated more than just for initial standalone I'm sure. The DayZ alpha/beta/release timeline isn't going to be over quickly, there will be a LOT of new techniques and discoveries before then. Some of the changes are bound to end up working less well than the Devs hope, but that's what trial and error is all about. As I've said before, This is only the VERY start of DayZ. -
AW NAW! We've lost apache. Fuck it, I'm not buying DayZ either now. Yeah I am. What was I thinking? @OP - Yeah I saw that image and had a Deckard Cain "Stay a while, and listen." flashback :| I think different shoes should weigh more, and potentially slow you down. I went climbing in my steel toecap Dr. Martens once, NEVER AGAIN! I think the item degradation could play into this too. Trainers are a bit quieter, you move a bit quicker, but they degrade 3x faster than hiking boots. Something like that. As for armour, it wouldn't fit in DayZ the way I picture it. Most likely there will be bulletproof vests and the like, in standalone. But I assume clothing will be mostly for warmth/comfort, and maybe add more pockets for your main (non-backpack) inventory. If I see "Cargo shorts +2 DR" or anything like that show up in DayZ, I will be pissed off <_<

What cartridges will your USP be chambered for? (for the love of fuck, don't say USP ammo) And go buy yourself a measuring tape. I could throw that Vector SMG further than 20 feet. Though OP suggestion is fucking dumb, we do need bullpup rifles as the really high value loot. P90 would have the rarest ammo on the face of Chernarus (50 rounds @ 5.7x28mm) but would be awesome in CQB They use them in the Ukraine and Turkey and stuff, so it's not too far fetched for them to show up in fictional countries too. EDIT: I don't mean Turkey is fictional, but Chernarus is.
