More Emote Animations Please!

Fairly certain the way ammo is handled will be completely redone for standalone. Rocket knows that to change a Military simulator into a Survival simulator, first thing you need to include is the need to scrimp and save bullets, there are no quartermasters in the apocalypse. Makarov 9x18 rounds are not the same as 9x19 Luger rounds

Perma-identity. Nickname is permanent. Nickname as face. Cover face - conceal nickname.

I already liked this idea on day 1, the thought process here is a grand example of how the "suggestions" section should work. Even if we do get the holy grail of facial editors, there is no way to be certain you would ever recognise anybody just from their face. Computer generated characters based on the same models will always look similar. This idea fills in the gap of necessary player recognition, with a little bit of a logical compromise. I like it. I have never liked the way vehicles and player tags are shown clearly for 100s of meters and through solid objects. I just wanted them out of DayZ altogether. Even with the fade/colour/transparency over distance, the tags MUST take into account direct LOS, or any tags, including this nameface function, will simply become a tool for hidden-faced players to stalk non-hiding players. With a functional "Line Of Sight" mechanic in game, this could work brilliantly! I love the idea of, even with my rag-tag flock of heroes, covering up our faces for a night time trek into unknown territory, but then how could we recognise eachother? IMO, Nametags, as they are in ArmA, should always be off, but this "nameface" tag, if properly implemented, should allow people to recognise close allies, even through disguise. I don't believe this would have any bearing on "difficulty" This is certainly not penalizing unfriendly players, it's simply allowing the community the potential to make decisions about players, based on an earned reputation. (or lack thereof) There would be nothing preventing people from recognising you through the means we currently have, (eg. telling people who you are) but this suggestion could allow for word of mouth to have a greater effect on how other players would interact when they encountered you.Just one thought. I would prefer it if a players' name only shows up when you mousewheel over them, as opposed to whenever you look at them. Could mean the difference between actively trying to identify someone, and simply looking in their direction IRL. Perhaps unrealistic, but still strikes me as more authentic. I suppose it's a matter of perspective. -
More Emote Animations Please!
[email protected] replied to Penny Sue's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I would rather see useful poses and actions than the "purely for looks" ones that are mostly in the first post. Thumbs up, thumbs down, waving and pointing. "emotes" which could serve a purpose for team play/player interaction. Threatening actions for bandit players would probably never be used, because most would shoot you before thinking. Selection of these actions should be accomplished by replacing the single button "salute" (#?) with a menu pop-up controlled by the mousewheel. Anything that tries to make me stop and type gets a "NO" automatically. If I wouldn't like it, I imagine many others wouldn't either. -
The server i got "Everything" on disappeared.
[email protected] replied to RequiemAsh's topic in New Player Discussion
Don't freak out yet, happened to me on de 841 The same server must have been bought by someone else or something, but our camp was still there when it eventually showed up again (renamed Dayzbliss blah blah blah). I googled it > DE 2028 With the IP of the server and the port number, you should be able to find your server if it comes back online, even under a different name. Or you could periodically check the page I linked you to above and see when a new game session starts. -
Every serial key is unique, and required to activate your installation. You get a serial key when you order a game through steam, or from Bohemia Interactive (either via the Steam browser, or by email) so you could buy the game, get your serial key, copy the game files from someone elses computer and enter your own personal activation key to play it. You could not give someone the game to play for free because players have a GUID to identify them online, linked with their individual purchase of the game, and their unique serial number in the registry. (which is how Battleye can globally ban people) It would just be a way to get DayZ to work without having to eat up your limited bandwidth on a large download. EDIT: I'm sure someone else would be able to explain it better than I can.
-
The majority of players will likely gain access to the standalone game via Steam or direct download. As far as I understand, there's nothing stopping you from downloading the game onto an external hard-drive at a friends house and simply completing activation with your unique DayZ serial number. Failing that, there is likely a kind soul out there who could copy the game files to a disc and post them to you, if it's really impossible to otherwise get the game. Maybe ask Rocket nice, and send him a self-addressed envelope. Postage paid.

Huge shopping mall with underground parking
[email protected] replied to markusfix's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Your suggestion was retarded, you should be the one to leave. EDIT: To clarify. Use of money and vending machines for easy access to basic supplies? You're playing the wrong game. -

Surely if you REALLY wanted to change your name the option would be available. Rocket reads the forums, it wouldn't take long for the point to get across if it became an issue. Nobody wants to be stuck "xXv*hollow boast regarding weapon proficiency*1337vXx" forever. It would probably have to be a "real world" debit transaction, getting more expensive every time, to stop griefs and trolls simply switching names to avoid detection. Either that or it would have to be limited somehow. Maybe so you can't change your name more than once in a 3 month period. -
make pencil and notes available in loot piles
[email protected] replied to wet_willt's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
This could be invaluable addition for survivors. Making notes of grid references and leaving a message for a buddy would become second nature. But knowing the community, smart money says Elektro will be full of bits of A5 notepads with pictures of cocks on them. -
I'm no business mogul, but how many "CoD kiddies" will want to go from spawning with high-end military loot and killing for the hell of it, to spawning with nothing, in a completely unrelated scenario? You put the suggestion across as a sort of "DayZ demo" but don't realise that this wouldn't demonstrate any part of DayZ. (apart from KoS, which is the biggest pisser about it IMO) Seeing how you respond to thebirdolux I'm going to go ahead and assume you think I missed the point. Personally, I think you've done enough point-missing for all of us.

Awesome. This would certainly increase the feeling of involvement players would get in certain situations. Getting mauled while in the "take a knee" pose doesn't promote the same empathy as actually seeing your picnic interrupted. If the animations were to take a little longer, having someone to help might speed things up. I can picture a few guys chipping in to pitch a tent, for example. Could this be another opportunity to encourage cooperation with strangers? The only thing that might be harder to animate is taking things out of your buddies backpack. (and I would get busted stealing borrowing ammo more often.) EDIT: Using medical supplies on others might also end up with "clunky" animations. Any time two characters directly interact could cause problems. Also - We need more actions/poses like "sit" "salute" and "surrender". Pointing, waving, thumbs up. There could be a lot more options if selecting a pose was done with a mouse wheel menu.

self controlled houses, durability, chase time, loot and new ideas
[email protected] replied to skull02892's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
He had all the ideas. (not your ideas in particular, just ALL the ideas.) He is allergic to punctuation. apache25 will be the next Slenderman, and nobody will believe he was ever a real person. -
Huge shopping mall with underground parking
[email protected] replied to markusfix's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
An enclosed space with an underground car park isn't the smartest place for an evacuation centre, especially if they're evacuating because of a mysterious virus which causes people to eat eachother. I like the idea. If one of the main cities had underground areas it would effectively double the floor space (and presumably memory use), but you have to realise, introducing a one stop shop for loot spawns would greatly unbalance the use of the map. There are already a few loot rich areas, these get mobbed all the time. Yes to underground expansion, but I don't think a mall is the way to go. I would prefer to see military bunkers with subterranean access, or train tunnels and subway stations. Maybe just the car-park? I don't know. -
That sounds terrible!!! I can't believe you let chubby girls on your bus!
-
HEY! You know I only sit at the front of the bus because the driver remembers to bring the Rizla+ ^_^
-
Your little brothers' dog ate your homework? EDIT: On Topic. :o (shock horror) I like this suggestion but it's not a groundbreaking new idea (There are ∞+1 "alt+f4" solutions on here) Dropping all their loot (bandages, bullets, beans n bullshit) would just leave a mess, and would be a pain in the arse for folks suffering legitimate disconnections. Might work better if an improper "abort" drops only the players backpack and guns for example. It only has to deter people from combat logging, and that would probably be enough incentive without taking it too far. At least that's my view of it. It's far from perfect, but this is a good idea.

Some kind of helper reward system
[email protected] replied to angryviper's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think the bulletproof vest is something of an urban legend.Well I've never noticed the difference anyway. Heroes definitely do get a boost to running for at least the first 10 seconds (then it evens out whether you're bandit/survivor/hero), and it works, for the mod. For a full immersion DayZ experience people need to stop seeing eachother as defined "bandit" or "hero" status. I imagine in the standalone people will begin to, and be encouraged to form larger groups (probably per server). When there is a proper community built, the best reward you could ask for is a good reputation. -
Suggestion: Zombie damage should greatly increase
[email protected] replied to ElysionField's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
This made my day. On topic. You even said it yourself - When standalone DayZ introduces a stamina mechanic, so you can't just sprint infinitely, the Zeds will automatically become a greater threat. The A.I. will be souped up, there will be more zombies at a time, the animations will be fixed (fingers crossed) and as soon as you stop to catch your breath, you get your ass eaten off. EDIT: Regarding 20-30 hits to kill. I don't think you should be able to bleed to death from being punched by zombies. The grabbing idea is a good one, it comes up in many topics, it's what people expect from zombies. What I think would make sense, Zombies shouldn't be hitting players as their main attack, they should be throwing punches to knock players down. Then once a player is knocked down (by being hit a few (5-10?) times in a row) or grabbed and pinned to the floor (by 1 or more zombies) the horde should descend to bite and try to eat them. Bleeding from zombie hits should be made a LOT rarer. Bleeding from bites should be instant. Players should obviously still have the chance to escape , but once you're down it should be seriously difficult to get away unless someone saves you. -
I doubt this is really the case. If it was a feature of DayZ you would HAVE to accept it, I just can't believe if you legitimately lose connection and the game decides "you are dead", you'll be any less pissed than anyone else. If everybody runs the risk of auto-suicide when they get disconnected, that would be a bigger cause for bitching than ghosters and combat loggers combined. Whether you're fine with it or not, there are many players who get kicked from servers for having poor connections who would not suffer this gladly. And you can't tell me admins wouldn't abuse this mechanic. (fire 1 round + boot = free loot?) I have no all powerful solution to the problem, if it was a simple fix it would be done by now. I think in standalone DayZ, we'll be chopping and changing how login/logout works for a good while. Trial and error is the only way to find an acceptable middle ground. These ideas are all good in theory, but nobody can tell how it will play out without trying it.

Third person and first person - you decide
[email protected] replied to Bombolz (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
No it doesn't. No. It doesn't. A lot of school? EDIT: Don't presume that just because something doesn't affect you, that it's somehow an imaginary problem. It's not just headbob that causes nausea. Among many other things, perceived movement of the character on screen changes per person depending on size and resolution of the monitor. Unless you are "Dr. Zetal - Vestibulo-ocular reflex specialist", you don't know what you're talking about. PokieBumWank @ u -
DayZ - Making prisoners very ease suggestion
[email protected] replied to punisherita's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
If you were bound with rope instead of handcuffs (so someone could rescue you and cut your binds without needing the key) and there was a time limit you could be tied up for, after which you could break free.(5-10 mins?). Otherwise this could be the most hated addition to anything EVER! If used properly, and in conjunction with a non-lethal K.O. manoeuvre it would probably be a valuable addition to gameplay. But when has anything we get to play with ever been used properly? -
