The "Hardcore" base
mr_chabowski@live.co.uk replied to Cap'n (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Talk of getting defensive, eh? You're either reading what you want to read or referencing something else entirely. I've spent my time in this discussion trying to bring it on-topic, in case you hadn't noticed. If you're truly not aware of the group of members with this attitude, it's probably worth looking into at least, before you start trying to ridicule me, or anyone else. If you're going to accuse me of being a hypocrite, do you mind pointing out where? Because all I've done is point out a certain feature of this discussion (and others) which shouldn't be there, while mercules continutes to discuss 1st vs 3rd We are literally saying the very same thing, DG. No playstyle makes anyone superior. Even in this very topic, I've stated my preference for FPV. I've also stated multiple times, it doesn't matter what you prefer. What DOES matter is talking down to people who don't share the views of the "hardcore" as if they don't know any better. -

@DG Clutching at straws? Hardly. Call it, "hardcore", "elite" whatever. It's constantly referenced as some "I know better than you" group, to which anyone exterior is inferior. You've got yourself a nice blue nametag, you should be aware of these things. Not kidding. I see forumers talking like that and I'm ashamed to be associated with them in the slightest. @Mercules Unless your name is Dean - "Rocket" - "2 Guns" - "The feckin' BOSS"- Hall, you have no more of a say than any other player. There are no experts here. Just opinionated end-users. No different than anyone else who wishes to share their views. -

Again with the missing the point? You'd think, with taking the time to write all that up, you'd have had time to READ THE OP. It's not about defining what constitutes "hardcore". It's not about your position on a "scale of hardcore". It's not about correct usage of the word "hardcore". Infact, besides terminology, it's got fuck all to do with "hardcore". It's about ANYONE thinking that they have more right than anyone else to dictate overall gameplay to others. -
Do you play on first or third person servers?
mr_chabowski@live.co.uk replied to Wayze's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Folks have to realise that without the non-"hardcore" players (whose opinion apparently doesn't count for shit), DayZ probably wouldn't be getting a Standalone release at all. 3dp has had the majority of server-stock for the majority of DayZ's existence. That in itself doesn't matter much, however, as at the end of the day, what Rocket says goes. You'll likely use that in your argument when he agrees with you and disregard it entirely when he doesn't. Meh. -

mr_chabowski@live.co.uk replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Having characters locked to either 3dp or FPV servers upon creation, or having two seperate hives, WILL stop FPV players being "corner-peeked". If you play solely in FPV-only servers, you are, by definition, voluntarily seperate from 3dp players. The schism exists already, so the playerbase cannot become "split". -

Hey, cap'n. You're not going to get you point across to everyone, I don't think. "Hardcore", while perfectly legitimate for measuring gameplay preference, does NOT give anyone superior standing in the community with regards to "right" and "wrong". The "holier than thou" attitude of some folks just overwrites their ability to see anything objectively. I may not share all your preferences for playstyle, but I share your disgust at the apparent ignorance of some folks. -

How can you still be missing the point? We're not talking about hard vs. easy or 3dp vs. FPV. Neither preference gives more validity to any person's views on any subject. -

Context IS relevant. And in this context, nothing you've said applies to the topic at hand. I play chess blindfolded, upside-down and underwater. Thus, your opinion is invalid. -

That's besides the point. The official version of DayZ will always be just that. 2 folks playing the same version of the mod (or SA), one in FPV, one in 3dp. Neither's opinion is more or less valid. -

mr_chabowski@live.co.uk replied to Cap'n (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Choosing to make the game more difficult for ourselves seperates us in playstyle only. Anyone using the term "hardcore", referencing some imagined superiority, is nothing but a self-important ego-stroker. Still, some folks seem to think their opinion carries more weight because of the way they choose to play the game. They need to grow up a bit. When I'm playing with my buddies, I'm on a 3dp server, fighting and driving in FPV by CHOICE. By that measure, I'm more "hardcore" than your "hardcore" crew, because my enemies can see me around corners. And I don't give a shit. EDIT: Classic whine sarcasm in italics. -

Ha. No offence, fella. But your response doesn't factor in. When I said "this is for everyone", something should have clicked. And if you're going to talk "bias", don't address a neutral party. -

Why do folks continue to make sweeping generalisations and massive assumptions, then strut around like they own the feckin' place? Listen. (and this is for everyone) You're entitled to your opinion. Your allowed to share your views. As is EVERY member here. But. You have no more right to impose your own preferences on anyone else than they do on you. And prejudice doesn't give you any right to insult folks. Show some respect. -
POLL: Dayz SA 1st person only
mr_chabowski@live.co.uk replied to Jex's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There's an entire section of the forum dedicated to it. Since you've clearly made no attempt to find a server suited to your needs (or you'd be aware of the thread in question), I don't think you've really got grounds to dictate how other folks play the game. -

mr_chabowski@live.co.uk replied to Jex's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Wayze. Serious question. What do you think gives you the right to decide what constitutes a "hardcore fan", or "caring about development"? In all the time I've been on the forum, this is probably the most active you've ever been regarding ANY topic. :P -
POLL: Dayz SA 1st person only
mr_chabowski@live.co.uk replied to Jex's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'd suggest, if you feel that something must be done, folks should petition for a change rather than poll. Showing your numbers seems to be what the recent spat was about. Drawing the attention of all the people who want 3dp removed to one paricular place would be far more likely to get the point across. Instead of agruing over multiple threads, post links to getshitdone.com -
HUD idea : Pleasure(satisfaction) indicator/bar
mr_chabowski@live.co.uk replied to Davy Von Beer's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I imagine in post apocalyptia, holding on to little bits of what's left of the world would be how survivors keep their sanity. Guitars, drink and card games. It'd be like the apocalyse never even happened. -
HUD idea : Pleasure(satisfaction) indicator/bar
mr_chabowski@live.co.uk replied to Davy Von Beer's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
It's not entirely about drugs and smoking. Life's little luxuries make us happy. Everyone has their pleasurable activity of choice. Be it, food, drink, gambling. Without these we tend to become unmotivated, which in a survival situation WILL kill you. How this translates into gameplay would clearly require a bit of a think-tank job, but that doesn't mean it's not a good idea. BTW: Don't focus on growing coffee/tobacco. Tins of beans don't grow in Russia either, but I don't hear anyone complaining about them. -

PiP mirrors, dude! If they manage to add working wingmirrors/rearview and the ability to fire a sidearm out the window, SA is going to kick even more ass. -
HUD idea : Pleasure(satisfaction) indicator/bar
mr_chabowski@live.co.uk replied to Davy Von Beer's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Regarding tobacco and coffee. I don't imagine they'd be too much rarer than canned food and drinks. There are obviously limited supplies, but theres also a "limited"(heh) population at this point. There are smaller shops, which are not grocers or supermarkets, that would stock/sell tobacco, skins, cigarrettes etc. And others which would have coffee. Some examples are newspaper shops and petrol stations. Speciality baristas, cafes and most waiting rooms (offices, hospitals, garages etc.) would have coffee. Not to mention a LOT of folks would have either or both in their homes. I think there could be a place for a "morale" meter, but it depends on the direction Rocket chooses to take. It's a sim, but it's not "The Sims". :P EDIT: A bit later, but while I remember. I'm not keen on HUD stuff. If anything, I'd like these stats to be hidden for the most part, with signals of some sort for reaching particular points on the scale. Maybe an indicator in the gear menu (so it's not on the general HUD) -
alcool and food/drink like messages in SA
mr_chabowski@live.co.uk replied to Bludy's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
yes but it gives the false sensation to get warm If it's a matter of first-hand perception vs physical effects, it would likely have to be treated much like painkillers are. Aspirin won't repair an injury, but it will dull the "pain" signal sent to your brain. Alcohol won't warm you up, but it will reduce the sensation of "cold", temporarily However, just like walking on a twisted ankle will damage it further, continued exposure to cold (even if you're rat-arsed and don't notice it) WILL harm you. For an in-game representation it would require introducing a gradual, measurable effect of exposure for alcohol to "interrupt". The most likely would be slowed movement and shivering, worsening over time until your body erventually just craps-out on you. EDIT: If there's ever any "morale" or "stress" stat for survivors, a wee drinky could play a part in becoming "relaxed" as opposed to "stressed" or "spirited" as opposed to "depressed". Obviously any benefit would come at the cost of reduced combat effectiveness. Possibly by implementing a slowly swaying screen and the occasional "stumble" in a random direction. -

mr_chabowski@live.co.uk replied to Jex's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
See, in my mind, one of the merits of the forum/Reddit (and others) is the ability to communicate your preferences to the community, get feedback and act on it. Finding likeminded folks (and servers to join) should be like shooting fish in a barrel. I don't want to wind anyone up, so I'll leave you to it. But seeing this topic come up again... I'm starting to think you're all mental. :P
