:| I never even thought about that. If the server explosion brings about an apocalypse, I'll have to try really hard to not laugh a little bit. (before I go on a DayZ-deprivation induced rampage)

No new releases until the hacks are fixed
[email protected] replied to punisher_1's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
So they admit that it is hackable. I fail to see why you're bitching about this, it's not a big conspiracy, it's a known issue. Every game has hackers. It's been common knowledge, for as long as anyone can remember, that the DayZ Mod being based on ArmA 2 (which is DESIGNED to allow custom scripts) is what makes these "hackers" so prolific. Private hives have been the workaround for the last wee while, and active admins on servers put in serious effort to combat these script kiddies. When Mr. Hall gets his standalone locked down the problem will be seriously lessened. Have a little faith. If that's too much to ask, as long as you're not part of the solution, at the very least, stop the complaining. It doesn't help at all. -
Do you trust Rocket's vision?
[email protected] replied to Judemoukari's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Whether people agree with every decision made or not, DayZ has a following which will ensure it's success. The project could end up going in a direction totally the opposite of what the masses want, I trust him to do what HE wants. He's getting shit done, and I'm going to support him because I respect his vision. His work has earned Rocket a shitload of appreciation. You can't deny that. -
You should try to avoid making assumptions, fella. This modus operandi you've conjured up and attempted to attach to me and my squad is entirely a false. If you're trying to show some kind of superiority, you're doing yourself no favours. I don't hoard gear. I don't go looking for PvP encounters to get killed constantly. I don't think your idea is any good. I'm sure you think you're right. It's a shame, but it seems I can't help you. You have a different opinion. That in no way makes my reasoning any less valid. I never meant it was directly related to bandits, my point is, the basis of this suggestion is the same as a noob crying that bandits should be punished. You want to change the game to suit your chosen playstyle.I have no doubt there will be changes to stop loot-farming and gear-hoarding in standalone. I welcome these improvements. My prediction is that it WILL NOT include tents disappearing on death. You can quote me on that.

I never got to read your post before you edited it, were you trying to fix an ATV same as me? I want to find out as much as I can. The ATV is the only type of vehicle I've tried. Can fix Wheels. Can fix Engine. That's it, everything else just never shows up. I've tried from every angle imaginable, and so have my buddies, to no avail. It's doin' my nut in!

If you touch anything hooked straight up to an A.C. generator, the circuit breaker will trip before it will kill you. At least it's supposed to. And those petrol or diesel powered bad-boys are LOUD AS FUCK There's no way in hell you're lifting one of them. You'd have to tow it. (4 years sparky experience) I've never played ACRE, but I know radios would kick ass. I think Rocket mentioned adding them already (I may have imagined it) Batteries too. But yeah, we need more toys to play with.

Hosting DayZ from within the S.A.
[email protected] replied to Michaelvoodoo25's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I found this tutorial that might be something like what you're looking for. It's for an older version, but that shouldn't matter too much I don't think. I've never tried this, so if anyone does get it to work, let me know how it goes. I take no responsibility if anything explosive happens to your computer. -
On the same ATVs I've replaced the wheels and the engine block without any problems, which is why I thought it was strange that I couldn't replace the other parts. I wouldn't say I'm glad, but I'm relieved to see it's not just me having this issue. I still hope there's a fix for it, otherwise these vehicles will slowly get damaged beyond repair. It might even turn out to be intentional. I'll make a bug report and link it to this thread. EDIT: I made a bug report. Just have to wait and see if a moderator gives it the greenlight.

I noticed this too. The can throwing is less stealthy, you would probably hear it anyway, but the melee weapons set off the combat time from way too far compared to the range of them. Maybe there's one all-encompassing range setting for any attack/action. I'm guessing it will be further developed, the overall idea is good.

So I take it the guys that support this idea would be totally against introducing the construction ideas Rocket mentioned too. Or would you prefer us to have the opportunity to build underground bunkers, which then disappear when you die? Getting kitted out isn't going to be the "end-game" forever. It makes no sense to cripple or remove a feature which is still working out the kinks. Currently, the main use I have for tents is collection of vehicle components. It's rare for me to build a vehicle just for myself, I wouldn't entrust the entire garage to one person if it will all be gone when they are killed. It sounds to me like you just want to play the first couple of hours of DayZ the entire time. When the standalone hits, you might get lucky and get a demo.

Medieval Style (Swords or heavy armor against zombies and their claws)

Did you not get in trouble while you were testing that out? Probably a good idea to post your findings anonymously. ^_^ -
Workbenches and weapon upgrades
[email protected] replied to Ghostdog15 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
You clearly missed the point. Turpentine, petrol, curly packaging foam bits and heat. is NO MATCH for an actually harmful, specifically engineered weapon. The refinement process for making military grade explosive material cannot simply be replicated in your "backyard bombs". Especially during an apocalypse where hanging around a place will get you shot or eaten.. The best you could hope to create out of whatever you can find left in Chernarus is a low brisant "banger" which at best, might cause a distraction. At worst, will take off all your fingers. Whatever 9th grade equates to, I took Higher Chemistry and know my way around the anarchists cook-book. The couple of hours you spend building a bomb (which would be unlikely to kill anything, or even slow down a zombie which doesn't feel pain) would be a complete waste of time. You could run around from town to town on a collection spree, finding components and chemicals. Or you could just go to one of the many military positions and pick up some grenades. -
Medieval Style (Swords or heavy armor against zombies and their claws)
[email protected] replied to trexeth's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
You wouldn't really need a set of plate armour, it would more likely get you killed than protect you. A leather jacket, a pair of jeans, a pair of doc-Marten boots. If you've ever tried to eat any of these things, you'll know, they're probably the best weight/protection ratio you'll get against zombies. I would gladly lose a bit of armour for a bit more manoeuvrability. -
I understand what you're saying here, but lack of support is irrelevant considering the team is re-writing the engine to suit their needs. It's more a matter of whether they feel it's necessary and how long it would take to implement such features. Horrifying violence aside, the aim of this effort should be to reach a certain level of authenticity. Stepping away from the "game" and crafting the "anti-game". It's to be expected in ground-breaking avenue for "simulation" based around people eating eachother.

The short-sightedness of this suggestion pisses me off. Nobody is at any advantage, you have the very same opportunity to gear up if you collect things and maintain a camp for yourself. Every tent is at the same risk of being discovered. Nothing is invulnerable to the actions of other players, that's the way it should be. Granted, it's not ideal. The thing is, short of death permanently banning a player from a certain server, there's not a perfect way to stop people re-gearing. It's the same with people complaining about bandits. Just because that's not the way you choose to play, doesn't mean the game mechanics have to change. The universe doesn't revolve around you. I don't particularly like the fact that after getting some guy who killed my buddies, he can be tooled-up again as soon as he gets to his tent. Doesn't mean the entire system has to change. Realism has nothing to do with it either. Having a tent you can come back to when you're reincarnated is not any less realistic than a tent which vanishes when you die. The problem is a "vanishing tent" will likely punish more than just the person who dies and your only reasoning is that you don't like the way it is now.

I'm against the erratic ambient gunshot and screaming noises, simply because it fails to represent an action in game. When more animals are introduced, their movements, their actions, crunching of twigs underfoot and the rustling of leaves in the wind, will provide the right kind of background noise for the forest. Sounds caused by player actions should carry further in open areas. Hearing an echo of a gunshot through the hills would startle players more if they knew it was another player in the distance and not just a random noise. Every action should make a noise too. These audible hints would make stalking around bandit camps or stealthily following a survivor through town even more tense.

I don't think "climatic" is the word you mean, but I get your point. There definitely needs to be a regional feel to the weapons which spawn more frequently. This will no doubt be addressed in the standalone version of DayZ, just maybe not immediately. All the weapons suggested seem to fit the bill perfectly well, there are a LOT more guns from eastern european / former soviet countries that would be badass in DayZ. If having many different ammo types makes finding bullets extremely difficult, then that's even better!!! I'm pretty sure the chopper crash sites are British. They spawn the AS-50 and L85A2, their weapon drops are supposed to look out of place. If you really want a "climatic" weapon, the chopper crashes should have a chance of spawning the Accuracy International L96 Arctic Warfare. It's built for the cold.

Why no single player option rocket?
[email protected] replied to Michaelvoodoo25's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Chrono Trigger, Super Metroid, Banjo-Kazooie :lol:To be honest, DayZ IS one of the most enjoayble games, I've ever played. But I think it's because of the fact that everyone else might be trying to kill you all the time. I can see why a single player environment would be nice. Sometimes I just can't be arsed with multiplayer games. But the threat and promise that comes with playing online, with people from all over the world, is what makes DayZ great. Until the zombie AI gets to a point where they actually pose a challenge, playing alone would get really boring really fast. If you really want to play alone, I'm pretty sure I've seen a video showing how you can create a LAN private hive on your computer. Google it. -
More people will have played a 1.7.3 server now. Has anyone else noticed any unusual problems with the vehicle repair menu? I've only used an ATV so I would also like to find out if this is happening with cars, bikes or helicopters. If nobody has any insight I'll report this as a bug tomorrow. As I said, I've only tried the ATV so I could do with more information first.

Workbenches and weapon upgrades
[email protected] replied to Ghostdog15 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
A quiver for crossbow bolts should be craftable. Maybe with rawhide from a cow? Torches, for lighting areas at night, should be craftable. A bit of wood with some cloth wrapped round it. A snare, for catching rabbits. Or a makeshift fishing rod. Something for getting food. That's all I can think of off the top of my head, but I think a brainstorm sesh is in order. -
I like the idea Agiantstick had. Maybe not the rusty tools part, but consumables should expire, and other people should definitely be able to steal your tents. I agree that having people gear up in just a few minutes after death spoils the game, but I've never had a tent with just my stuff in it. To delete the tent on the owners death would just be fucking over everyone else who uses it for storage. I think having hoarded stuff simply disappear from the game would hugely affect the immersion and world-persistence DayZ works so hard to build. When item duping is a thing of the past, there won't be an infinite supply of stuff in these guys tents, hopefully the new item-spawn system can bring a fix for loot farming too. I figured when dogs were introduced, you might be able to follow the scent trail from a fresh kill back to someones' camp. This way nobody could stash their treasures forever. Then if you really don't want people re-arming at their tents all the time, you could do something about it! ;)

Best and worst feeling in DayZ?
[email protected] replied to morgan32's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Best - When you knock out the guy who had the drop on you, bandage + blood-bag him, then run away before he gets up Worst - When someone steals your helicopter, and you have to shoot him down. :( -
Found my first GPS today!
[email protected] replied to a_typical_noob's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
First legit spawn GPS is a real "HOLYSHITBALLS" moment. I got mine from a Deerstand. I never used to bother with them, now I've got Deerstand OCD. :|
