Cable Ties, Pepper Spray, Rubber Bullets, Knockout Melee attacks.

Maybe not riot squad stuff, but a true badass would K.O. any bandit they come across and throw all their OP military weapons in the sea. -
Cable Ties, Pepper Spray, Rubber Bullets, Knockout Melee attacks.
[email protected] replied to Wisebeard91's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
 Yes to all of these things, Also, Stun grenades and Flash-bangs. (to disorient/incapacitate players, and distract zombies) And a tranquilizer dart-gun. I've seen a non-lethal suggestion topic somewhere around here before, It would be cool to have the option. -
Albatrosses and Pelicans would have some good eating them if you could find them, they're pretty big, for birds. I would be more inclined to go for Grouse, Pheasants and Partridges.

I had imagined an excuse to make the slow "shambler" zeds harder to kill (headshot only, Romero style, for gameplay balance) would be that while they are becoming more old and rotten, their internal organs become more and more redundant, reducing the effect firearms have on their bodies. It wouldn't make sense, from taking a purely challenge oriented approach, to make the infected that move slowest also the easiest to dispatch. Whether DayZ goes this way, we'll just have to wait and see. I can only say for certain, that's how I would choose to handle things.

Re-designing the crashed helicopters

Holy pointless tangent Batman. -
I'm up for that, but we're going to need a 20ga shotgun for taking them out.

Re-designing the crashed helicopters

He obviously left his door open. -
IRL Transfusion of one blood bag (about a pint of blood) takes roughly an hour, maybe more. To do this yourself, you'd either need to find an IV stand, or hold the bag above your head for an hour, while semi-concious. Obviously we don't want to be sitting for an hour in real time waiting for the process to finish, but if DayZ is aiming for realism and authenticity, the task shouldn't be simplified in the slightest. In my opinion blood-bagging is already far too powerful. I hope it gets a serious nerfing for standalone. EDIT: Say, for example, you got down to 3000 blood. When you have lost 3/4 of your blood you wouldn't be fit to wipe your own ass, let alone give yourself a blood transfusion. On a side note, people have round about 10 pints of blood in their body. Those blood bags hold ONE pint of blood.

left handed player character
[email protected] replied to s0uthpawsh00t3r's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
In many European languages, including English, the word for the direction "right" also means "correct" or "proper". Throughout history, being left-handed was considered negative. The Latin word sinistra meant "left" as well as "unlucky" and this double meaning survives in European derivatives of Latin, and in the English word "sinister.' - From Wikipedia -
How exactly is this game fun?
[email protected] replied to jungodungo's topic in New Player Discussion
Going from ArmA to DayZ would have started you with a good knowledge of the controls, and how weapons handle. A lot of the current community (myself included) seems to have had more excitement out of NOT knowing how things worked. I had Operation Flashpoint back in the day, but was always more of a Max Payne / Resident Evil / Deus Ex kinda guy, the authentic simulation side of things is still fresh and new in the sci-fi / horror scene. A fuckload of people seem to have jumped on the bandwagon, only to realise, they don't like where it's heading. -
left handed player character

Pretty sure most special forces around the world learn to shoot Right-handed, so as not to complicate things. Don't quote me on that, but look it up, I'm sure I read that somewhere. I'm Right-handed, and I can shoot Left-handed (with a P90 BB gun :D), so it must be easy enough for Lefties to learn to shoot regular. -
Everyone is a bandit on Namalsk
[email protected] replied to Rick the Survivor's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Everyone I bumped into was a coward. I'm shouting "FRIENDLY! You need food? Heatpacks? I have some Pepsi you can have!" everyone kept running away! I saw one of them trying to sneak up on me too. But he turned and ran when I told him I could see him. I guess I missed the Namalsk good old days. <_< EDIT: It's a beast of a map though! I was lost for ages!!! -
SheriffHD I thought that's what the Czech breast pouch was going to be for. Tiz bloody useless just now. I'm all for making the hounds carry dangerous explosives, but how are they supposed to trigger the detonator?! You could have a long piece of string tied to the pin of a grenade, and you hold one end.....

It's you that wants to add footprints for every animal/zombie/player in the game, morphine addiction in DayZ is perfectly plausible. The aim is to make survival difficult. The more factors there are to balance the more challenging (and better) it becomes. If you need to use morphine when you break a bone, and morphine might cause you to become addicted (and perform less well while suffering the addiction), then you'll have to pay more attention and try harder to not break bones.

If the player model could be mirrored to simulate a lefty, it would only be a very slight improvement to you (if any). The guns auto-mirroring would piss me off though. For the sake of authenticity a hot bullet-casing in the eye should hurt and blur your vision. Some rifles have case-deflectors (M16 for example) but the bolt-handle would still be on the wrong side if you were left-handed. -
Get servers to report correct in-game time
[email protected] replied to SwissArmy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
A lot of servers don't even show the time when I look. I just assume 20 or more people = daytime. The time in-game isn't synchronous between players either. Some people might be running around in pitch darkness, while others are in "late-evening" light. Probably to do with the fact ArmA 2 wasn't designed to be a persistent world for days/weeks at a time. Something else that will most likely be fixed when DayZ is on it's own engine, with the new client-server architecture. I'm not entirely sure what that means, I don't MMO often. But I'm assured it's better for us gameplay wise. -
Armed forces use the same medical equipment as any emergency service. You can buy "Morphine auto injectors" from Wal-mart, with a prescription, HERP DERP DERP! It's a medical device. Not military. The only way to not risk getting addicted to opiates is to not use them. From what I hear, you should check your facts.

@thebirdolux - People can be addicted to substances (and actions) without being physiologically dependant. In a lot of cases, emotional withdrawal combined with compulsion eventually leads to becoming physically addicted to a substance. I wouldn't be surprised to see it in standalone. Rocket sounds like he's working hard to make sure nothing can be simple.

How long will it take till your bored of SA?
[email protected] replied to Michaelvoodoo25's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't want to see the SA team putting too much thought into adding new maps any time soon. I would much rather they concentrated on turning what they have currently into a fully functional game. It's a case of when Rocket decides DayZ feels "complete", then the team can turn their hand to any number of things. -
Re-designing the crashed helicopters
[email protected] replied to Gordon Axeman's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
If it's an airborne virus, the pilot freaking out in mid-flight isn't beyond the realms of possibility. If you still remember the thrill of finding your first crash site, I think that's how it should feel every time. After a while finding a downed chopper becomes a bit "meh". If there was only an absolutely tiny chance of finding a chopper, and they were properly random / really well hidden, they could be exciting again. Less is More, so they say. -
GPS tracking system for vehicles.
[email protected] replied to Serious Stan's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
There's some thoughts on the subject in these threads, have a look and see what you think. http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/95078-vehicle-location-beacon/ http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/58824-gps-options/ I personally think the GPS makes map navigation WAY too easy, I would rather see anything GPS related, especially player markers on maps, removed from DayZ. One of those topics (if memory serves) had some discussion about using Radio signals to track vehicles instead of GPS. I would prefer it done that way. (any excuse to get radios added ^_^) -
Rocket has mentioned introduction of a Zombie life-cycle, I assume that means, a bit like dead island, fresh infected would be more human like and fast, older zeds would be tougher but slower.

This is still happening?!!?
[email protected] replied to Swens123's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I was at my camp, waiting for my buddy to log in. I watched his character spawn inside a tree, then die and slide down the hill a bit. The death message said "Gammy Leg was killed - friendly fire" On Teamspeak he told me he'd spawned at Kamenka with no gear, no bag/painkiller/flashlight/bandage and still wearing his ghillie suit. Strange stuff going on. I thought he just must've logged out too close to a tree. -
Are low value loot spawns worth looking in?
[email protected] replied to thezoq2's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I found 2 ghillie suits and a box of matches in the red brick post-office beside the long white shed in Stary. They're considered low value, but that was a beast of a find. I remember getting my very first Alice pack in the doorway of one of the green painted houses. I usually only check them if they're en route somewhere. My only requirement in deciding what's a "good" loot spawn is ease of access. Cherno apartments are medium value spawns, but there's only one way in or out. (unless you fancy jumping off the roof ) If the town sounds busy, and I'm by myself, I'd give them a miss.
