Bring back the debug menu! or at least another way to find out my humanity!
[email protected] replied to elf cakes's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
It's a matter of perspective. Whatever he chooses will have been "right" for him.Rocket makes it clear in many of his interviews, he values authenticity over popularity. A lot of people just can't seem to accept that. Folks need to get used to the idea that they're not going to be pandered to. -
I posted this in another thread while trying to explain that I would like to see "classic" zeds alongside the current infected of DayZ.
-
Yes they can. They do it all the time. ^_^

The challenge: zombie hunter
[email protected] replied to echo38's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
In my experience, winning a firefight is mostly about positioning. It just doesn't work so well on DayZ Zeds because their tactics consist of just running right into your face. ^_^@OP It's good to have a target to aim for during play, otherwise you're just wandering. I've never set out JUST to kill zombies though, I like to mix things up so I'll probably try it now that you've mentioned it. No backpack+eat only sardines+diabetic mode next! -
Do tents and car storage save now on 1.7.3
[email protected] replied to Kris..'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I usually set up a tent then wait until the server resets before I put things in it. No problems have occurred since I started doing it that way. I've had gear go missing from an ATV though, but the one next to it saved perfectly, so I don't know what to tell you. -
Fucking NO CHANCE, sunshine.I'll be strapping IEDs all over my face-fuzz. No bandit will be making a trophy of my fibres of fury.

I can't zoom out 3rd person and toggle it with my snipers?
[email protected] replied to hpmon's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I had trouble with double-tapping to toggle zoom, this sorted it. I re-mapped "zoom out toggle" to spacebar. It's really bloody handy, and works well. I don't know about using it with snipers, (since I like to Benelli M4 peoples legs) but It's handy anyway for switching on-the-fly. -
WELCOME! Having Frankie inspire you to get DayZ is a good sign, he's got skills (social and combat). Just be prepared to shout "Hey there, buddy! Stay still and I won't shoot." and have to put your new friend down because, for the most part, people are too stupid to play nice.

The razor is a must have for this suggestion. No way in hell am I trekkin' Chernarus with beans stuck in my 'stache. Shave the fecker off to accentuate the Wolverine sideys. This was the topic of banter for most of my first DayZ all-nighters

I'm up for that, if somebody brings towels. After a few dunts on morphine, sardine-oil and glow-sticks I usually get right sweaty bollocks. PS. Javes Hetstaine from Metadeth? Shouldn't you be taking it easy?

tl:dr - If you want the debug menu back, stop making excuses. It's because you want to make the game easier, plain and simple. Players who disagree with the OP only want to see DayZ reach its' full potential as a pioneer of challenging zombie survival sims. -
Improving the game should be the concern of every player. I found this relevant to your "map fix" There's nothing to fix. If you use Latitude and Longitude they represent a location, which is always at that location. If you want to read co-ords (Y, X) instead of (X, Y) you can, but you have to specify this, because everyone else does it the other way.
-
The mod will still be supported by the community, so there will always be another map if you get bored. I just can't see another map being high-priority for SA. I read somewhere that when new maps are eventually made, your character might be able to travel between them in-game. Which would be badass, to say the least. That kind of development sounds WAAAY off in the future.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but 1.7.4 has nothing to do with Rocket or his plans for the standalone game. Oh, and you should read the patch notes yourself. Patch notes preview EDIT: I take this to mean; No debug menu - No "optional" debug menu The debug menu shows your blood count, but it shouldn't be visible to players. It's an advantage vs. survival.Knowing your "humanity count" is also an advantage. In that, you shouldn't be able to calculate how many people you could get off with killing before the game turns you into a bandit. -
There should be different kinds of map in-game anyway. No chance every map in the country is exactly the same, there should be a range of maps, so you'll have to learn how to read them. Some maps might be really poor quality, without markers for altitude etc. Or maybe a road atlas with different areas on different pages. Brainstorm with it, I just think there should be more variety in all walks of DayZ. within reason The order you read the coordinates depends on you, I suppose, but wouldn't they still be written the same on the map?

I'm not arguing against an advantage against others in PvP. I'm trying to let you see that giving yourself an advantage against everyday DayZ survival goes against the entire purpose of the project. Judging your characters' physical condition or moral standing should be part of the challenge. Having a numerical value to represent their entire medical state removes the panic when you get injured. The way I see it, DayZ was intended to disorient players, and isn't meant to be simplified in any way.I hope the medical system Rocket is planning moves as far away from "I've only got 2000 blood left, has anybody got some steaks?" or "Better have some beans, I'm down to 11,800 blood!" as possible. And you're the guy who's trying to tell us that the thing you want doesn't provide you any kind of advantage, while failing to realise; the advantage it gives you is the only reason you want it. -

So you have no reason to want it back, good.Problem solved. -
Why is "Expert" now known as "Mercenary"?
[email protected] replied to echo38's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I noticed this too, but I still always find "Expert" servers with crosshairs enabled <_< (WTF?) A massive influx of "veteran" n00bs has made the listed difficulty name irrelevant. You should still be looking for particular features to get a suitable level of challenge. The difficulty settings per server should be fixed in standalone, just "DayZ" for a real challenge or "HoliDayZ" for the kids. All server options should be restricted for the most part, so there can be a set level of HARDEST that will always be HARDEST. The OFP way of doing things is unnecessarily confusing. Especially since everyone is now playing the same game type. EDIT: @Sibexus All settings are customisable, by default Mercenary and Expert are the same. It's just called Mercenary in your .cfg and Expert in the GUI. Look it up. observation fail. -
^_^ Well now, that's one way to do it.

@Dreygar - A lot of magazines are made with a transparent section so you can see how much ammo you have left. If not, when you can see the follower, you should probably reload. Anyone ever play Condemned or Condemned 2 ? They have a similar system for actually having to look and remember how many bullets you have left. It worked well, and would REALLY suit DayZ. This suggestion is a good one, beans for OP. EDIT: Replacing HUD with a bit of meta-gaming is always good in my book.

Anybody else wish we could take beans from people?

While we're at it, stick in optional infinite ammo too. Just because it wasn't intended for gameplay, doesn't mean I can't have it as an option.Lots of folks seem to feel the need to constantly point out that DayZ is not real life. Get medicated. It's not up to me or you to decide how "authentic" DayZ becomes, it's up to rocket and the dev team (and the modders for the mod). They have decided the debug menu should be removed. You want to know how I figured that out? THEY REMOVED IT. (also, rocket has talked about NO HUD a few times) People who are visually impaired or deaf will be allowed functions to help overcome their disadvantages. This has been brought up before. EU law has no bearing on what a mod can do, but it does for standalone. I have no doubt thousands of other no-deaf/non-blind people will start using monitors and options designed to assist the handicapped. It's not my place to judge, but I'm going to anyway... -

[email protected] replied to elf cakes's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
It's a debug menu, it's for the Devs to test stuff, not for you to make your DayZ experience easier. Since it's been fully removed in the latest official update, and standalone is coming very soon. It might be a good idea for you to try and get used to the idea of living without it. Maybe there will be a secret DayZ version of the Konami code, then all you little de-buggers can have your cake and be told the numerical value of it. +1 for removal of "humanity skins"
