@Quazoosl - DayZ is clearly not intended to be a "fun" experience. If the suicide option is a matter of realism as you say, then you would need a gun. (unless you're planning to punch yourself to death) Also, I'm absolutely against death messages of all kinds. A little note, to let everyone on the server know when a death occurs, clearly doesn't belong in DayZ.

Dayz koS would be rife irl if there was an apocalypse

@OP You can't rationalise Kill-on-Sight mentality solely by using "lack of supplies" as an excuse. There's no lack of supplies in DayZ and IRL if killing people was your main method of gathering necessities you wouldn't be likely to last very long. -

More Realism(Stamina, Breath)
[email protected] replied to BenKen (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
@Rooneye , even though you're clearly taking the piss, I would like to have the difficulties you suggest regarding death from bullets (it only makes sense). The solution would be "don't get shot". Watch the video I posted above, from around 19:50. It's obvious that if a broken leg made a player entirely useless, without hope, they would QQ or suicide. It should still be fecking grim. @BenKen , "limited stamina" - yes, "stamina bar" - no -
Nobody wants to have to sift through millions of topics, you're adding to the massive pile of "same old, same old", use the search bar or expect to catch flak.Word of god says the "Zombies" are not undead, they are infected. Players are immune and will not become Zeds. Burying corpses has been discussed, the medical side of things (sickness etc.) will be expanded in standalone. Weather is an interesting concept, but again, it has been discussed to death. How much variation in weather would affect actual gameplay remains to be seen, but I wouldn't write it off. Rain already reduces the Zeds ability to hear you. I would guess the team will aim for as much authenticity as possible with regard to things such as being wet and wind-chilled, considering survival is the main objective.

More Realism(Stamina, Breath)
[email protected] replied to BenKen (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
“Complexity is fine when it mirrors reality,” Don't expect Rocket to make things fun at the expense of authenticity. Watch this video from 18:50. He doesn't flat out say it's intended as a SIM, but the "it should be added because its realistic" argument seems to hold more water than, "make the game better/more fun to play." -
The new vehicle repair system, while not too different from what I'm used to, has me scratching my head. My squad have been travelling the dirt-roads of Chernarus in a pair of ATVs, and we can't repair either the fuel tanks or the hulls. Everybody has a toolbox, we have all the required materials, but no matter which area of the quad I look at, the option to repair these two parts has NEVER shown up! I know it's probably something I've overlooked, but these components are definitely damaged, I just seem unable to do anything about it. I realise the patch is brand new and there hasn't been much opportunity for everyone to investigate all the changes, I just wonder if anyone can tell me what I'm missing. Any help would be much appreciated. EDIT: Thanks to smasht_AU for helping move this to the troubleshooting section.

Would you quit if servers went expert?

I've come to the conclusion; I only use 3dp when manoeuvring because I've gotten used to it. I switch to 1st person immediately if I think there's another player nearby, because it makes sense to me. (how anybody can fight in 3dp is beyond me), For me personally, there isn't the lack of immersion Hetstaine mentioned, but "astral projection" certainly doesn't make the game any more immersive. Having just realised 3dp is the only non-expert "crutch" I'm OK with, I have to say; I'm on the fence with this one, but I want the challenge to be greater than our expectations. I had hoped that DayZ would have clearly defined difficulty selection instead of "fully customisable server settings". Even then, it should only be a choice of "Hard" or "Remedial". IMO In ArmA, there is a need for many variables to suit the huge customisation in terms of gameplay. In DayZ, we're all playing the same mission(sic), so we should all be facing the same challenge. -

This is what I'm trying to say.Maybe it's lost in translation, I'm not here to tell anyone their opinions aren't as valid as the next guys', just that Rocket had made his position on the matter pretty clear from day 1. Don't go convincing yourself I'm closed minded, I just paid attention when the guy who's designing the game told us what he wants to achieve. -

I wouldn't stop playing it, but most have come to recognise DayZ as a 3rd person experience, with FPS gameplay. Which is how I've gotten used to it. 1st person all the time gets boring IMO, so I just use it for shooting. You have to keep in mind, if Rocket did what you want him to do with standalone, it wouldn't be true to DayZ. We need him to do what he wants to do. -
If someone was standing right behind you, talking on the radio to his buddies, you would still hear him.Not the case with TS/mumble/skype. Wait a second..... Using 3rd party software to give yourself and your squad an advantage in an online game?! HAX!!! EDIT: If you're having a chug, it's best to unplug. <- Wankers' Mantra

Standalone Poll: First Person Only?
[email protected] replied to Trizzo's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Its own momentum (from compression) + angular momentum (from spin)EDIT: RE: Bullets - Friction reduces the velocity of the round, but if it had the same momentum at the moment it left the barrel, under less friction, it would still be accelerating. -

I won't be the decider of these things, neither will you. Don't get pissy at me, or anyone else because the facts aren't stacking in your favour. ONE MORE TIME!!! It doesn't matter what your preferences are, nor mine, nor anyone elses for that matter. Rocket makes the call. Like it or lump it. -

C'mon, I see this suggestion like 20 times a day. Standalone? wait and see. -
For realz? I shout and swear at zeds all the time over VoIP (pointless I know, I just think it would be funny if somebody witnessed it), never noticed them walking towards the sound though.Check this topic, along similar lines.

That sounds like too much hassle for the sake of stopping a game, in which you're speaking to other people, from recognising your microphone input. For the sake of gameplay I honestly believe that in-game VoIP should be more encouraged. I've said it before, I want to be able to eavesdrop on a bandit to find out his plans! Zombies should be able to hear people speaking too, (they can hear you walking on grass, so why not?) but it could only work if we used DayZ VoiP.

Standalone Poll: First Person Only?

I think the title of the server summarizes your experience TBH.Dayzextreme? Of course its full of useless tryhard trogs, case in point: The extreme caught your eye, didn't it? I couldn't care less if someone uses "magical periscopes" to spot me, because I'm not stupid enough to blindly walk into obvious killzones. Just remove all that stupid HUD crap (nametags, markers, crosshairs, ammo count, weapon name, death messages, anything else I missed) and force EVERYONE to actually aim their gun. Then they will have to use 1st person to fight, or they get picked off right quick. 3dp is the way people picture DayZ now. It's what has come to be expected. Not accepting that, is living in denial. -
Why did the DayZ players changed so much?(From friendly kids to backstabbing twats)
[email protected] replied to privatewolf's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm more interested to find out what's going on in the minds of people who shoot vehicles just because they're in view. "Oh well done, blew out a tyre, what's the plan now dumbass?"I've had chats on VoIP with unarmed bandits, making it very clear if they were armed I wouldn't be playing nice, and come to the conclusion; everyone is still friendly and talkative, until they get a weapon. I've never driven a vehicle past any armed unknown person without them trying to shoot it. It's like dogs chasing cars - No idea what they would do if they ever caught up with one. Was this ever different? Because I don't remember it. -

Trying to help. No longer -
I've thought this ever since the first time I played as part of a group. Everybody probably wouldn't have the same exact map if salvaging is the only way to find things.(unless they found a bulk of them) This would make it necessary to add street names and more road signs, because topographical features would only be marked the same on a map of the same issue/production.
