  1. With the amount of loot drops you suggest (primary and sidearms for 6 + the cargo) there should be only a very small chance to find anything in decent working order. **Choppers should be seen as salvage, not "best loot". The husk of the chopper is a smouldering wreck. Everything should be in pretty bad nick. I still think if you know there's definitely at least 1 heli crash on every server restart, that means they're too common. EDIT: Just to be clear. **The weapons should still potentially be of high quality, but they should be in pretty bad condition.
  2. Any radios should have enough range to speak to (almost) the whole map. Otherwise it's kinda pointless. Maybe the closer your buddy is to the Green Mountain tower, the less static their voice sounds? So from Kamenka to Black Lake would be pretty badly distorted forcing you to speak clearly. I support having 10(give or take) channels, but news/messages? I don't like the idea. The pre-recorded Morse code, deerstand co-ords made in-world sense, becuase everyone is dead AFAIK. And that's the point. If there was a way to track a transponder for heli crashes etc. within a certain range, that would be better than the AI straight up announcing it on the radio.
  3. "Mercenary" servers would only be able to show a tightly clenched fist (with a "shaky" cam maybe? :D). Without a "dropping a log" animation, they will likely stay as empty as they've always been. The people have spoken. The masses want to take a dump in a computer game.
  4. I was trying to support your case, due to the tension gained from increasing the need to be aware, but you, in particular, sound like you're just butt-hurt from getting beat on 3dp servers.I won't call it a "glorified wall hack" because that's not the case at all. There are just certain situations where the range of a players view becomes seriously unnatural. The angle of movement of the camera should, at the very least, be reduced a LOT. Especially while prone or at corners. I, and plenty others, just get SERIOUSLY bored of running around for hours in 1st person. You may not agree, but the 3dp cam serves to relieve some of that boredom. As for flying; it's not a problem. Only landing is a problem, and you can usually wing it. If there were more piloting animations, 1st person helo would be pure bad-ass. Don't make deductions based on emoticons. ^_^ T'is a whole nother language.

    Chainsaws

It wouldn't be a zombie game without a chainsaw. Being in the style of a simulator, I expect to see chainsaw wielders get overrun and eaten quite often. No chance you'd be running cross-country carrying one of those heavy fuckers everywhere! :P
  6. @OP, don't presume to know better than the devs. Like it or not, they can do what they want. I just look forward to seeing what they come up with. They might make some fuck-ups along the way, but DayZ will still be awesome.
  7. Or...... When you hold it in too long.
  8. Tried to fly a huey in 1st person earlier today. All I can say is " :|" Couldn't find a mercenary/expert server with more than 3 players though, so I was playing 1st person in the usual 3dp:on ch:off servers, just to try it out for a few hours. I have to admit, the scares are more scary when you can only see the way you're facing. I wouldn't quite say I've converted,(still prefer to see my character when I'm on hour long jogs) but when the aiming deadzone is at about 50%, first person definitely feels more immersive. I've never had so much fun running around in the dark with a flashlight. EDIT: I think the main fissure in the discussion is the difference between people who see DayZ as a PvP game, and those who, like me, see it as more than that. Before anyone decides they would never give up 3dp, they should play a whole day without it. I know there are those who sufferer motion sickness, I've heard increasing FOV helps. I hope it's addressed in SA. Aiming Deadzone at half, and FOV of around 80` makes it feel a LOT better I think.
  9. You can hold hands when you drop a log if you want to coordinate.
  10. There needs to be a body-map for more complex variation in damage than just "headshot or not", for both zombies and players. I also think zeds should have the same health as everyone else. (I want them to be harder to despatch than people, not easier) I've noticed the 9s and .45s are underpowered, but my main gripe is with shotguns. Shotgun (slugs + pellets) need to be be beefed up a LOT. I reckon, at 100m or closer, a single 12 gauge slug square in the chest, should do more damage than a 7.62mm bullet.
  11. Those Zeds were smoother animated, true, but I don't think it's as threatening, from a gameplay perspective, if all zombies shuffle like they have superglue in their pubes. DayZs' runners are the flavour of the week. (after watching that video, I'm away to increase my FOV and play about with the aiming deadzone :D)
  12. Standalone sounds like it's aiming to make survival an absolute bitch, so lack of medical gear/rations IS a reason to kill others if you're so inclined. If it all goes the way it sounds, people will be too busy killing one another for a tin of beans to kill for fun. When bandits have to go back to banditry to survive, there should be no cause for complaint. Not just killing on sight is HARD mode. That's why most would shoot first, make excuses later. I try to keep other survivors alive because I choose to, that's what SANDBOX means.
  13. I don't think a crowbar would be able to salvage much from a vehicle. But both concepts (a use for crowbar / reclaim car parts) are good ones. AFAIK the devs are already planning a vehicle salvage scheme of some kind. Just have to wait and see. For the crowbar, I'd like to be able to bust open doors/crates/containers/windows for player access or loot storage. Maybe some extra loot spawns only accessible with a crowbar? (not different loot, just more spawn points; Delivery crates at the supermarket etc.)
  14. I'm not a fan of having gear on spawn, but I see what you're getting at. If the walkies are in loot and have to be found, players wouldn't even bother with them, they'd stick with TS. Depending on your point of view or how strict you want to clamp down, using 3rd party chat software amounts to cheating. (Using a 3rd party program to give your squad/clan an advantage in PvP = HAX) I'd wager there's a cross section of people who would advocate TS/Skype over this (good) idea, while they call 3dp camera a "crutch". Flameshield up
  15. I don't think any subterranean APC belongs in DayZ. Anything more than a foxhole + tarp/ply is just taking the piss. Unless we want to go for the "abandoned mineshaft" motif. I loves me a minecart track. Donkey Kong Country FTW!
  16. When DayZ evolves to be more than just a mod for ArmA it will have to make a defined set of rules or risk fracturing the community forever. All that your "join another server" comment proves is, you don't understand how fickle people are. Without a clear set of DayZ server rules, there will come a point when there is no longer a hint of what the base game aimed to be. When the whole project bows to the whim of any server admin (or the tears of n00bs), the devs' (and rockets') target, to create a real challenging survival game, will have failed. EDIT: People should either play the game, or not. Changing the rules to make it easier defeats the purpose. Fact.Changing parts of the game, to add new features, may be supported somewhere down the line. Your defence of the "different way" (read: cheating, easy mode) should be run out of town, with pitchforks and torches*. (*which would be unnecessary, because it's 24/7 daylight)
  17. We've all had our fun in the dark. Some of it's probably better when you cant' see. There should be a reason to play at night, most people seem to have accepted with that. If hunting the wild beasties (pigs/rabbits etc. and in SA hopefully deer) was more of a nocturnal activity, it could go some way towards encouraging playing in pitch blackness. I can't imagine there's one all-encompassing fix for the apparent unpopularity of the early AM, but I think a collection of little day/night differences like this could turn the tide of opinion. As it is now, the only thing different in DayZs' world at night is, it's hard to see.
  18. For peoples opinions on the topic to make sense you have to realise, freedom is a matter of perspective. There's a lot of difference between structuring a game world and infringing peoples liberties. The players in DayZ are given many, many freedoms, but it's still as restrictive as any other game. It has to be, at the very least for the sake of creating a challenge and providing the tools required to overcome it. It IS still a game. In any case, that's not a bad thing. It's quite unlike any other online experience I've had, and this topic (for me at least) is a case of, "the less you think about it the better it will be". @Penny Sue - You clearly spent a while pondering this, Kudos. I personally like the uncertainty of it all. Probably best not to worry about it turning into Ultima Online, lest you end up too apprehensive to enjoy it for what it is.
  19. Everybody knows without the Heinz trademark DayZ would never have been popular. It would just have been a pioneering, online, persistent world, zombie apocalypse, survival game. Generic Beans? No Sale.(j/k) It's not doing any harm to anyone. If anything, it's free advertising. Pepsi/Coke is another story. They are unlikely to be happy sharing the billing, but equally unlikely to each let the other have all the attention. ^_^

    Weapon features

Both of those ideas really should be implemented, along with an ability to holster/shoulder all your guns. About the magazine suggestion. Along the same lines as bullets being counted as "objects" and magazines as "containers". It's these sensible ideas that the "suggestions" section is here for.
  21. If I remember right, wasn't GTA4 supposed to randomise pedestrians? (I can't remember if they actually did it or not)This could work well to disguise the Zombie clones, but I don't think it's going to be absolutely necessary any time soon. Black Mesa source (Half Life remake) has a Face Creation System. So it's not like any sci-fi technology is required, just a lot of time and effort.

    Suicide

I'm going by what I know. According to MANY interviews with Rocket, DayZ was not intended to be fun. (don't ask me for links, do your own search)The way harsher survival is planned to be implemented, "fun" is obviously not the target. The target is to create a challenge. Overcoming a challenge is enjoyable. I never said I didn't intend to enjoy DayZ. Why would I play a game I don't like? I also never said games aren't supposed to be fun. Don't quote my posts if you haven't read and understood them.EDIT: @Quazoosl - I am agreeing with you about the loaded gun being a requirement. If you remember, when the respawn button was active, you could kill yourself with your bare hands as long as your leg was broken. This made no sense.
  23. @Rooneye - I never said make every server the same time. There will always have to be servers for all different time-zones. I'm in Scotland, but I wouldn't want to have all the servers I play on set to exactly GMT. I don't always play at the same time when I'm on, sometimes I get a wee game through the day, sometimes I'm on from night until stupid o'clock in the morning. I don't always want to be playing on a daylight game either, but I don't want to HAVE to play at night to get a night server :P

    Zombie Survivors

I like this^^ (Sutinen) It's been mentioned before. I remember thinking "do these baseball caps make survivors immune?" Every person wears the same clothes, but no non-survivors shopped at that store. It would be a nice little touch, but in SA there will be less variation in zombie models until the team have time to get round to making more. By that time we should be into clothing customisation for players, so this "survivor zombie" will be irrelevant. Maybe by that point a "vest and baseball cap" zombie could be like an inside joke, or a nostalgia reference. I would like that sort of thing.
  25. Here's hoping standalone server options will all be preset. It shouldn't require filters just to find a server running vanilla settings. Making everything optional sounds like a good idea, but all it really does is fracture the community. There's no need for every setting to be editable server-side. ArmA had options because every game was custom. If Rocket wants to create a serious survival setting, people shouldn't be allowed to make things easier for themselves. There will always be servers in different time-zones anyway. Anyone who said "I pay for the server, I can do what I want" used to just get told to get a grip, there are always many other willing hosts. Now, with everyone on private hives, every admin makes up there own rules. In my opinion everything in SA should be locked down, to keep the challenge constant for everyone. Are we even still going to be playing private hives when standalone hits? I assumed we'd all be on a main hive, for the sake of random encounters. Private hives on the MOD should be allowed to do what they want. The experimentation brings some good ideas, but 24/7 daylight just amounts to a poor form of cheating in my book.
