  1. Wishful thinking is not a defect. The community at large don't seem the type to bite the hand that feeds, so don't stress about it. You said you'd keep us in the loop, and you delivered. Keep up the good work, boss. Much appreciated. :beans:
  2. http://www.dayzwiki.com/ Everything you need to know should be there in the wiki.
  3. @logan, Very good point. Would the server be able to check a players' gear to change spawns accordingly? Or is that sci-fi? With base-building and all the other fancy crap we're hearing about, it sounds like we're going to be encouraged to make ourselves a "home server". This might be a way to lessen server hopping, but it won't stop it outright. It would certainly give "old" characters something to work towards, nonetheless.
  4. 200 ping? ouch! Might be worth renting a pneumatic drill and patching yourself in a little closer to the exchange. ^_^ The one thing I'm worried about with this new set up is, taking fire from a lag-master. If everything is relayed through the server, are we going to be getting shot by people who can still see us from 5 seconds ago? Removing all the redundant simulation calculations will, no doubt, vastly improve performance. I just wish I understood the process better.
  5. 100 players on Chernarus is NOT beyond capacity. Even vanilla Chernarus. 50-60 per server is too much when it's full of KoS PvPers. Elektro can only hold so many players. Even then, if people want to PvP, they shouldn't bitch out because of numbers. I've been on full capacity 60 player games, and only met a couple of players while wandering. Friendly and otherwise. I've been on 10 player hives where everyone is in Elektro, swinging their dicks. Don't make assumptions based on guesswork. Wait and see.
  6. I think the differences in weapons should mainly be the weight, manoeuvrability, ease(speed) of use and accurate range. Different bullet damage doesn't make all that much sense in an "authentic" environment. Any hole through your chest, is still a hole through your chest. Shotguns are a different story. But like all games, ArmA nerfed them to nearly useless. While I do like your suggestion, I think the system should be rigged totally against your odds of survival. It should be a LOT easier to die from being riddled with bullets. The solution should be, don't get shot. Inclusion of your "crippling-limbs" would be awesome, but not being incapacitated and killed outright, should be rare.
  7. So which antibiotics do you need? How many? A hot bullet sterilizes itself, but the fragments of your clothes stuck in your body will slowly kill you. Misuse of antibiotics causes bacteria to become resistant. The wrong antibiotics or an incorrect dosage will just make you die slower. The real-world rules that allow you to laugh at "Hollywood heroes" don't apply when hospitals cease to exist. Wounds NEED to be made sterile. EDIT: Don't refer to "the civil war" That's pretty damn ignorant.
  8. Way to assume, boss. Pity your head's up your ass, or you might see I'm proposing a little authentic differentiation. Aim round corners, no? Too far fetched? Your rifle at your side, the other guys' MP5 in your face.
  9. So... You want CQB designed weapons to have absolutely ZERO benefit, in any situation? GG
  10. The way people interact has a massive influence (butterfly effect) on the world we're playing in. Once upon a time, it was fear and paranoia which caused the KoS mentality a lot of folks roll with. Nowadays, it's become staple, because a lot of players are too lazy or ignorant to try anything else. PvP is a massive part of the gameplay. But it's clearly not the only part. I've heard the excuse; "It takes less than an hour to get geared up, then all there is to do is hunt players." If that's all that's perpetuated, then why bother giving anyone any freedom? All it takes is a little ingenuity (asking too much?) and suddenly, you're the Robin Hood of Cherno. Protector of the innocent. Instead of yet another bully. I'm holding out hope that increased difficulty in SA will, at the very least, give players something else to do.
  11. Depends. Virus' and Bacteria adapt and evolve. I guess that's why they're so dangerous. I don't think you could catch the same virus twice, but it could potentially spread around many, many others and come back in the form of a different virus. There aren't very many anti-viral vaccines in existence. And anti-viral drugs are specifically engineered AFAIK. I think the best way to cure a bacterial infection is by killing the bacteria with antibiotics. Not sure what you'd have to do to someones blood to steal their antibodies.... ....no harm in trying though, eh?
  12. ST for small weapons (carbines/pistols etc.) From what I've seen, this mod has an effect on ALL weapons. I think longer rifles should still be hindered by doorframes. Big backpacks should also be taken into account. For the most part, the way it works now does make sense. It's just really annoying when you have no bag, no weapon, and your still too fat to fit through a door! <_<
  13. Considering the unclean surroundings, I think surgery, to sterilize wounds and tidy them up, would probably be vital to your survival. With no hospitals, no doctors and very little in the way of medical supplies, even if you don't bleed-out from the gunshot, the bacterial infection afterwards will likely cause your death. Provided you can control the bleeding, it would be far more beneficial to remove the bullet + fibres of clothing before allowing the wound to heal. @Sonic - I'm no doctor, but clearly, neither are you.
  14. A lot of these conditions will be, superficially, very similar. A wiki will be all but necessary. If to identify the symptoms of a disease, you must pay attention/inspect, then that's using the most simple mechanic available.
  15. I like to think that low-mid tier players will still be relying heavily on melee weapons in SA. The rarity of ammunition should be far more of an issue than it is currently. EVERY bullet should be valuable. The lucky bandit with the 50 cal shouldn't be mowing anyone down, because he has 5, maybe 10 rounds to his name. And that rifle is now his pride and joy. Having played Namalsk, I can only imagine if people could eat military hardware, nobody would go hungry. I don't think it's a good example TBH. I can see why people like it, but it's not my cup of tea. We need to wait and see whether the new loot-spawn system has any tricks up it's sleeve. Will the map still be coated in a thin layer of empty tin cans?
  16. Taboo isn't the problem. The problem is, producing a game amounts to a high-stakes gamble, and people, outwith the gaming community, tend to see everything in EVERY game as "glorification". With the vast majority of games where there either are NO children, or the children are invincible, it's a concious decision, by the company, based on self imposed restrictions. GTA, Fallout 3/NV, Skyrim etc. are sandboxes (to an extent) where killing is encouraged, expected and, in many cases, rewarded. Nobody with a lot of money at stake can be seen to support child-murder for profit. Big-budget publishers can't afford to take that risk. So they just don't. There are no such restrictions with other art-forms. If done right, these can bring emotion and sensation as profound works of art. (THE SHINING - 1980) Perhaps video-games are too interactive. Though DayZ does a good job exploring the moral ambiguity of a post-apocalyptic world. This particular "taboo" will likely remain untouched.
  17. To whom it may concern, Games and fun are not necessarily mutually inclusive. Overcoming challenges is more rewarding than "fun". DayZ is geared towards this notion. If solving a medical dilemma becomes a meta-game, then it makes players more involved. Texts assisting diagnosis will surely be available in-game, but the work shouldn't be done for you. If you really can't cope with the idea of a game that actually poses a challenge. I suggest you go see a doctor, ask about getting some ointment for the chip on your shoulder.
  18. Any apocalyptic scenario can only be as authentic as the fictions from which it draws inspiration. Mad Max - Baddies are schizophrenic. The Road - Cannibal psychos Book of Eli - Cannibal psychos, schizo bandit/soldiers Post apocalyptic fiction seems to have reached the consensus that killers and mass murderers tend not to retain mental stability. Whether it's post-traumatic stress, lack of civilized contact or any other reason, you can't use your view of "authenticity" to deny a legitimate point such as this. I'm not saying I agree with this idea, just that your denial of it can't have no basis in reality, since there's no precedent of such an occurrence that anyone is aware of.
  19. You could certainly try it, but I would rather have fresh clean bullets in me than dirty, second-hand, "meat shield" bullets. <_<
  20. I don't want to see any NPCs apart from zeds. Being the only living people in the world makes the reactions between players more important than populating the world with bots. I think everyone should just stay as beach-landers. For the sake of situational balance, if nothing else.
  21. Fixing a corpse to the ground is NOT more authentic. I don't understand why you see dragging a body as far as you like as such an issue. The extra load on the server is only going to be registered while you're in the process of manoeuvering/booby-trapping one body. It won't slow down the game. The fact is, it shouldn't be essential to prevent people from doing what they want, it's just necessary to be able to find a nice compromise between "long enough" and "too long" for bodies to stay in game. There should be a long enough corpse-removal timer so that bodies can potentially be used as a trap, but not so long as to fill servers with ever-lasting dead players. EDIT: Looks like mini Maracas gets the credit. Maybe I'm a figment of your imagination! :| lulz
  22. If you want to talk to someone on the radio, it's fair to assume that everyone else on the channel would be able to hear what you're saying. This "whisper" doesn't sound like it fits with the feel of DayZ. There's always the 3rd party chatware option.
  23. More than likely. But that's why everyone will be expected to take a little responsibility for their own precautions.

    More animals

I don't think you get mountain lions in Russia, but I could be wrong. A lynx or wolverine could fuck you up though. There should be snakes and spiders to worry about too. They're probably more dangerous, because you can't see them. Then there's ticks and mosquitoes. You REALLY don't want to catch Lyme disease or Encephalitis when there's no hospital on the go. I think wilderness and hunting will be subject to a lot of revamping over the next wee while. Setting snares on a game-trail would kick ass.
