  1. I don't know what assumptions are safe to make regarding players stamina. All we know for certain is that medical considerations are going to be more impacting in certain scenarios. Maybe encouraging players to take their time is exactly the change of pace the game needs? I'm not keen on unfounded speculation, but rocket seems to know precisely what he hopes to achieve. If I was a gambling man, I'd guess that means we should just wait and see how it turns out. EDIT: Whatever happens, it's definitely going to be a slap in the face compared to the "see Zeds, don't care" situation in the mod.
  2. Unnecessarily long double-post quotes FTW
  3. Derrrr, Rangefinding should be the job of your spotter. That's what sensible people have been doing with the thermal scope up 'til now anyway. Working as tag-teams. Yes, it is ridiculous. A thermal rangefinder would make their job even easier. A little bit of thinking goes a long way.
  4. Says the guy with Raam for an avatar. :huh:Attempting to make some apples/oranges distinction between the attitude of the xbox live community and that of DayZ, is seriously dumb. There's such things as individuality to consider. Not to mention, when's the last time anyone saw online cross-platform gaming on xbox? I digress, Speculation about a console release is totally irrelevant. If it does come to pass, it will be a heavily chopped-down port. Even so, with "optimization" (a concept totally foreign to PC elitists), 7/8 year old console hardware and OSs can still do some seriously impressive shit. The problem would be putting it all on a ROMdisk. EDIT: Anyone remember what happened when otherZ raced for a quick release? Rocket, dude, take all the time you need.
  5. Why not implement a spit-roast. Then you can eat the flesh right off the bone.

    Mix breeds

Don't go all Krav Maga on my ass. I know Origami.
  7. If I understand you correctly, I picture something like cooking a meal for a group. Not necessarily a "positive humanity" buff, but a potentially friendly group activity. EDIT: It also might be more beneficial than a tin of beans, depending on how nutrition/wellbeing is going to be implemented. @Trizzo, I get what your saying, but I never meant what I said as a suggestion for "extra" anything. I'm merely reinforcing the idea that bandits play on easy mode. EDIT2: Just noticed you edited a post from earlier. I couldn't give a shit about the philosophical implications TBH ^_^ If the world in DayZ is destined to be authentic, people should WANT to cooperate and socialize, instead of being KoS pussies all the time.
  8. The only major problem I see with the huey in dayZ, it that it's the only vehicle (on the vanilla Chernarus game) that weapons (in this case mounted M240) can be fired from. And even then, that makes it a problem with the OTHER vehicles, NOT the helo. Crash sites can be fully taken advantage of, and that sucks. But it's still a "first come, first served" scenario. With regards to camps being found, I believe anything with camouflage should be tagged as such by the game, and only rendered properly within a certain range. It's really hard to represent the function of camo properly in CGI. I think this might serve to simulate it a bit better. EDIT: Don't bite my head of for suggesting it, it's just a thought.
  9. If players choose not to loot their victims then that's not going against anything I said. They take their pleasure in other forms. Did you even read my post, or just disagree with it? You have a different way to make the very same point. Pleasant sensations aside, if more players were less cowardly, being nice would have measurable benefits.
  10. I don't think chicken noodle soup does much healing if you eat it cold out of a tin. I'd rather have a bottle of Jack and a couple of stogies to help shake the cold.
  11. I think if you're happy with the state of the mod, Standalone DayZ will be a major shock to the system for you. To begin with it's likely that we'll have a more polished version of what goes on now, but over the next year or so this leopard is going to have changed its spots into stripes.
  12. I've done the old butcher thing, It's not really suited to axe tactics, but precision is irrelevant in a "do or die" situation. I'd be more worried about collecting cuts of meat with the same tools you use to smash zombies' faces in. How about adding "do you want this gun? Hold on a second while I clear a space and put it on the floor for you." And the fact that there are millions of empty cans lying around, but when you eat beans, you eat the can too. Same with drinks. Infinite matches?! They could at least give us a fire-steel if it's going to last ages, it's more believable. The list goes on. Best not get your knickers in a twist about it though.
  13. Dude, I'm running a 5 year old quad-core, and it plays perfectly. PEBKAC
  14. If a community of players took the initiative and banded together, they would have automatically and instinctively created a reward system, where, if you're known to be friendly, you're accepted as such. The problem stems from pretty much each and every player, being a self-serving asshat. @Trizzo, Rage is right. The "service with a smile", every resource on tap, killing and stealing lifestyle is its own reward. The only down-side is, it comes with recognition. Currently in the form of a shemagh over your face. EDIT: If it's decided that a bullet, potentially from over a Kilometre away, can put blood on your hands. Something went wrong in the brainstorming session.
  15. I still haven't managed to get a decent game on an expert server. None of them ever have more than 5 players when I'm on. Every server is 3dp enabled. I've been playing in 1st person anyway, to see what it's like. Certain interactions in that view can shit you right up. ^_^ Hopefully, for SA, the devs will have realised how this exploit, and the "reasons" for keeping 3dp are fixable. "Periscopes" don't bother me much, but the amount of grief people on here get from it is a joke. I'm pretty sure if the camera was at least closer to the character and lower down, things wouldn't be nearly as exploitable. Compare DayZ and Resident Evil 4 (a game that is ENTIRELY 3dp) I'd, ideally, still just like to see my character running around and doing stuff. Custom clothes will make the urge a hell of a lot worse! IF 1st person is enforced, I'd prefer there to be an optional 3rd person while sprinting (can't really peek round corners while running as fast as you can), bandaging, repairing, cooking etc. Just a thought. Remember, everyone plays their own way. But I agree, that doesn't mean people should be afforded exploitable mechanics, especially in an online game.

  17. I wish you could be a little more sarcastic.
  18. I like the idea, but I'm not keen on meters or bars or icons. Characters already hyperventilate in certain stressful / terrifying situations. That sort of thing would be a more suitable indicator IMHO
  19. Why in the fuck should they be LESS lethal?! Players can already absorb stupid quantities of lead without any problem.A bullet to the heart won't necessarily kill you instantly, (people have survived some crazy shit) but you certainly won't be walking away from it like nothing happened. EDIT: To go with your theory. 30 rounds in the leg. Followed by some creative bandaging = Perfectly fine? It may be a game, but it's supposed to be immensely unforgiving. Getting perforated should seriously fuck you up.

    Bayonets

When Britain went into Iraq, they had SA-80s with fixed bayonets. There's a reason bayonet drills didn't go out of fashion. Modern bayonets are more of a multi-tool than a "stabber". Basically the same as the hunting knife that's already in DayZ. EDIT: A serrated edge wouldn't go amiss. But I'm sure it'll do the job.

    Bayonets

Shout this into the mirror as often as you possibly can.
  22. See an example of how it would look It ain't the prettiest, but it will run. EDIT: The video isn't DayZ, it is ArmA 2 though.
  23. Easiest thing to do is load up the armory in ArmA 2:OA and mess around with the GUI video settings with no risk of getting killed. I'm guessing most people find settings that work, by trial and error.
  24. Because you're probably searching in this topic. http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/104403-possibility-of-horses/page__hl__horse http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/103507-horses/page__hl__horse#entry972636 There's two for free.
