The man is likely doing things that should be considered more important than wasting the time it would take to explain the important things that he's doing. He's more than earned the right to whip out, "Big news - Taking a fortnight off." When Rocket lays out his plans, or announces an announcement (announcemenception?) it should come with the understanding that the ball is squarely in HIS court. Every tidbit of info shared is done so as a favour to us. Whether you were led to expect something or not, badgering the dude isn't going to help any.
-
@squirrel - The only complainers are the "entitled". Reasonable people appreciate that Rocket has already afforded us far more information and open discussion than most game developers could fathom. Have a little patience. The guy's obviously busy, or otherwise engaged. It's no reason to throw your toys out of the pram.

DayZ is cancelled.Rocket got fed up of the impatient, ungrateful little shits hassling him. The Dev team is now working on licensed hi-tech "My Little Pony" titles for SEGA GameGear. ^_^ In all seriousness though. These fellas have been working their asses off, the least everyone could do is let them have their Christmas holidays.

Dynamic system of bandit recognition [#2 - rewritten and refined]
[email protected] replied to GodOfGrain's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
There are an estimated 7 BILLION people on the planet. How do you recognise any of them?I'm one of those who would rather see reputation and recognition handled by the player. When it comes to complex game mechanics, in a sandbox environment, less is more. 1With the current system, if you're a hero/bandit, when you die and reincarnate, you're still a hero/bandit.That's not a clean slate. Quite the contrary, in fact. And IMO,2playing with Tags enabled means you're not playing the game right anyway. Forgive me if I don't trust your judgement in this area. -
I don't think the Wasteland style of base building would suit DayZ. Too much construction would seriously impact the "survival" element. I'm not against in-world object placement per se, just the major bases, stockpiles of gear and OTT defences. It would be nice to have the opportunity to create a survivor outpost, with many people helping. I just feel that care should be taken not to detract from the "apocalypse scavenger" factor.

Couple of moronic logic's that should be fixed.
[email protected] replied to DiazWaffleCrabstro's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The Winchester should be a .44 Henry, so you won't be using any "1866 slugs" as shotgun shells anyway I'm pretty sure the way ammo is handled would come under "inventory management" to some degree, and we've been told this is completely overhauled for SA. Wut?Are you being intentionally dense here? I doubt in the same scenario you would struggle to gut a beastie with an axe. More to the point, you wouldn't even have to do any gutting. Get your cut of meat however you can, job done. It's survival, not Master-Chef. If you've ever skinned or butchered anything, you know, after the first cut, it can mostly be achieved by ripping and tearing with just your hands. It won't be pretty, but it'll get the job done. -
I'm fairly certain I've seen Patrol packs at spawn points, maybe dumped by a player now that I think about it. This would fit the bill perfectly. It really doesn't make sense that everyone already has a backpack, but they're not carrying anything. It would be far better if we all started with nothing, Then folks might learn to appreciate the little things.

New Source Of Antibiotics

Well, Rocket did say something about player-created labs. This would give me something to do other than cooking Meth. -
Night Time .... lets take it seriously.

If you don't want to play the game properly, there are 24/7 daylight servers for little girls like you who are scared of the dark. Gamma-boost is cheating, dipshit.Whatever excuse gets you out of bed in the morning is fine with me. I'll leave you alone now, I don't want to be accused of persecuting the mentally disabled. I would be seriously impressed if anyone managed to pull off such a feat for the sake of a game.People talk about "immersion" and "authenticity" with regards to DayZ, and it's true we've been given one of the best examples. Still, there's quite a lot lost when you realise how simple some of the mechanics are. It's entirely forgiveable. I wouldn't want to say a bad word about DayZ, it's awesome. But there is always room for improvement. -

When is DayZ 2 going to be out? -
I can see you still haven't gotten over not winning the Nobel prize for eating out of a tin. I'm just trying to give a half-sensible reason to use the spoon suggestion. You still MIGHT injure yourself. It's a perfectly plausible situation. I'm pretty sure if I was in the apocalypse, I'd want to use a spoon. It would be my little refuge of civilization. It's a shame there's not a "because I want to" meter in DayZ. Cutlery would fit nicely in there.

Aww, chill out, butt-hurt. I only called you on your bullshit. I need to hear some more of your excuses. That might placate me. -
Epinephrine to slow blood loss?
[email protected] replied to fathairybeast's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think it would be good if you could temporarily forfeit your weapon for the ability to apply pressure to a wound.I imagine it slowing down the bleeding, but all you can do is try and get out of the danger-zone. It seems like a fairly reasonable compromise. -
Good thinking there dude. The hygiene aspect of apocalypse survival would have a major effect on hunting too. Beasties that smell soap on you won't be hanging around. Could be part of a see-saw between making yourself Zombait, and being able to catch your dinner. Just throwing it out there.

You should consider that a person's metabolic rate will increase while under strain, while physically active and while exposed to cold environments. So whatever you're quoting as the recommended daily intake of food energy will be wrong in this scenario anyway. -
If you want to keep something safe, keep it on your person at all times. Then all you have to do is not get killed. Them's the rules.

Night Time .... lets take it seriously.

A torch only brightens up the surrounding area if the projected light has a surface to bounce off. It would light up the room you're in, because the walls and other objects are reasonably close. This doesn't happen to the same degree outside. Granted the light in DayZ does seem to diffuse to nothing far too abruptly, but I imagine it would be fairly complicated to make light react truly authentically. What I would like to see though, is an option to focus/spread the beam to varying degrees. IRL I wouldn't be walking through the woods with my only light-source focussed to as tight a circle as possible. That's for damn sure. -

So you set up a shortcut, so that you can cheat at cheating? Pointing that out doesn't exactly serve to impress. Nor does it change the fact that most people wouldn't bother. A good portion might even overcome a challenge (shock horror) instead of having to resort to exploits. I bet the thought hadn't even crossed your mind. -
Night Time .... lets take it seriously.
[email protected] replied to Spunkmire's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Whether or not there are further exploits. Locking gamma in-game is perfectly reasonable. If people still choose to change their nVidia control panel settings to give themselves an advantage, they should realise they are sub-par players, who resort to cheating to get by. An overarching solution would be to make the default game so utterly fucking dark, you HAVE to use every gamma-boost under the sun, just to see normally. -
I'm all for adding options, and I've supported the idea of pre-apocalypse money still being present in Chernarus as decorative collector-crap. (people have to learn MONEY is not the same as ECONOMY) But, (and it's a big BUT) If there are NPCs or scripted barter / shop mechanics added to DayZ, I will not be a happy bunny. Everything should be player created. That's the entire point. The world is supposed to be dead, we're the only survivors.

You might cut your hand while trying to wrestle a sardine out of its tin. You might cut your face trying to drink a can of beans. Infection might be a good addition to encourage good dining etiquette. No elbows on the table etc.

Epinephrine to slow blood loss?
[email protected] replied to fathairybeast's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
^^ Nice explanation Bludy :beans: AFAIK most non-medical people who would be familiar with Epi-pens are those who are (or know someone who is) allergic to bee stings etc. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that epinephrine would increase your heart-rate, causing you to bleed-out faster. -
In a do or die situation, who in their right mind would choose to assume there's nothing there instead of getting their ass in the water to look?I think there should be things like this. Overturned cargo ships and the like. Nobody in the harbour to prevent all the boats there from drifting off. No crew to stop them crashing, beached or capsized. Not everybody will be up for the exploration/investigation, but in my mind, the less options we're given, the less this feels like an authentic world. And I thought that was the whole point. EDIT: Game engine and time constraints aside, this would be a good way to bring the world to un-life. So to speak.

For the food and drink icons, and the time it takes for starvation to kill us in game, you have to realise, nobody plays 24/7 so realism has to take a back seat. That said, I would like to see the requirements be made up of more "layers" of dehydration and starvation, coupled with reduced performance etc. I feel this might replicate the condition of a person when they get beyond "I want" and start to gravitate toward "I need" with regards to nourishment of some form.
