  1. I prefer to see what my character is doing. Before you start. I always play out firefights using 1st person and sights, and I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in this regard. I can't stand running for miles in 1st person view, it makes the most tedious journeys infinitely more boring. I've played first person servers. They are constantly empty and that makes for boring gameplay. I want to get entertainment from my game. EDIT: I want everyone to be able to play as they please. The OP suggestion of not allowing 3dp to corner-peek(by restricting camera movement) is a good compromise, if corner-peeking is actually your concern. Overall, it seems as though you just want everyone to play as you see fit. You've shown very little effort in the way of expanding on the actual topic at hand. EDIT2: To put it in perspective, my preferred franchises include, Hitman, Resident Evil, Splinter-Cell and Mario. I want to see what my guy is up to. Why is that such an incomprehensible notion?
  2. The "problem" is a matter of perception. You complaining about something doesn't make it an actual issue. Just like saying the same things over and over again doesn't make them true. EDIT: Argh. Bear with me, I'm on the xbox. Typing is murder, formatting is worse.
  3. Simple as sweeping and ignorant assumption? Well, now we know. You're honestly just leading me to believe it's you that's simple.
  4. Probably due to the fact that nobody wants to have their playstyle dictated to them. Dictators dictate. And they also tend to be unpoular.
  5. Better or worse, immersion, suspense. These are matters of personal preference. I don't know about you all, but I don't find suspense lacking an a movie that's not in 1st person. Games, where I consider character development and situation to be factors of great immersion, are no different. @exdeath, in my honest opinion, players should have to AIM their weapons. No overlayed crosshair, no assistance. 1st person is invariably required in firefights. But I don't want to be stuck in it all day. Melee combat, general player to player interaction(medical etc.), long journeys. In all these situations it would be preferable to have more awareness of what my character is doing. Clearly many, but not all, of the people ranting against this feature, are incapable of compromise, or even simple comprehension. May the next person who mentions "head-bob" as a solution, be shot in the face with a ball of their own shite.
  6. @ dystopeon, I understand your mental capacity is lacking, but couldn't you try harder to offend me than repeating what I said to you? And haggis? Really? Your cultural bigotry speaks volumes, and none of it is beneficial to your standing in my eyes. While it seems you take pride in making yourself look like an ignorant idiot, I can honestly say, I expected better. I know I shouldn't get my hopes up. Maybe you should stuff down some haggis from time to time. It's obviously better for your brain than whatever you've been eating. - Why do people insist on trying to define Rocket's vision by their own standards? Familiarity with the engine and ArmA's mod support are good enough reasons for the decision to base DayZ on it. It doesn't mean that, having played ArmA, you have any foreknowledge regarding the "vision". Any presumptions I make regarding DayZ are based on observation. To me it doesn't look like DayZ should be regarded as an FPS.
  7. If somebody wants to be associated with badly drawn chodes, I say let them.
  8. I always just considered the player's vests to be nothing but simple webbing, and that's what's used for storage. I would love to see a variety of plates/vests in game, but I think players are too solid already. If it was easier to die, there would be some incentive to put plates in your vest instead of ammo/beans/bandages. IMO Incapacitation would make for boring gameplay, so death, however unlikely it appears, is a good compromise. Another good implementation (if armour is involved) would be localised damage mapping. If you get shot in the leg while you're wearing a bulletproof vest, obviously you shouldn't get the benefit of protection.
  9. burritoman, was that a joke? Now I'm confused. I might be a little crass, but the concept is sound. Plus, with diseases being all the rage, it could be immensely satifying to take a leak all down one of those bambi-camping fucks. You can get your gear back, but you might want to find some Dettol first. Or Cillit Bang.DISCLAIMER: Other brands are available. Probably. I don't know.
  10. I hope you're not one of those, "People can do what they like, as long as it's not what I don't want them to do." types. Personally, I think it would be far more DayZesque if players could each have custom image files (the way ArmA allows skins). Pardon my lack of current technical wizzle (it's been a while), but IIRC *.png is compact and allows for transparency. Little touches of customisation give players far more immersion in their character's situation. In my experience, anyway. I dont' see why you'd mark buildings unless you're in a cooperative group, or building a reputation of some sort. In both cases, easily recognizable tags would be the most useful.
  11. You have to understand. You can't add a function to a sandbox game and dictate how people are going to use it.Clans will make clan-tags. It's not a case of "What it's for" but " What you can do with it"
  12. It's like talking to a brick wall that was dropped on its head as a child. EDIT: It's starting to feel like many of you just like to think you're some superior beings. Read the OP, this topic was created regarding a COMPROMISE. It's turned into a pathetic, tautological mess. "I'm right, because I said so, and I'm right"Why should your preferences and opinions be more valid than anyone elses? EDIT2: I sincerely hope there's 1st person only servers for SA, so you can have your cake and find that nobody wants to eat it.
  13. If you want to give me an example, post a video of you running 10K after being shot. Eat as many beans as you like. FYI, I believe any gunfight should be played out in 1st person, but to force the entirety of the experience into a restricted view would be a really dumb move on the part of the devs. Not everyone plays this game as a pure FPS. This appears to be a point your group can't seem to wrap their minds around. If you put yourself at a disadvantage, who's to blame?

    Who killed me?

@X0TCadde - I've had the same thing happen, except in the 5-10 minutes it took me to run to my camp, the guy had died, respawned, found my chopper and stolen it. Needless to say, I was slightly suspicious. But most (not all) private hives are hosted just so the admins can do what they want. Hacks and all. Death messages shouldn't be included in DayZ at all, for the simple fact that after striving for immersion and authenticity, having everyone know when anybody dies, is a MAJOR step in the wrong direction. Letting players know who killed them just turns our perma-death anti-game into arcade pish.
  15. Rooftop vantage points are irrelevant in this discussion. I absolutely guarantee you, even in 1st person only, the guy with the high ground still has the advantage. If 3dp gives players any advantage, it's available to all. If it's causing you greif, it's because your'e getting outplayed, simple as. inb4 realistic, blah blah blah. If you want realism, make any bullet from any source,in any body part, fuck you up royally. FPV in DayZ is what life would look like if you looked through a tiolet-roll tube all the time. I prefer to switch when necessary, rather than be forced to use it constantly. The 3dp cam should be tightened to the character. (funny story, the "otherZ" did that one thing pretty decent IMO) It needs fixed, but it shouldn't be removed.
  16. I really don't think catering the entire standalone game to a minority of the community would be designated "good business sense".I think you need to start getting more Omega3 in your diet. If the "pansies" are the pro-3dp group, why are you the one crying about it?
  17. OP is comedy gold. Now I want to see someone trying to get a horse to drink water out of a bottle, I'm all for adding horse banter. I've probably said so in a few of the millions of other topics about them. But after a little more thought, if they're ever added, they better not just be automaton "horse-bike" vehicles. A horse is a creature with a mind of its own, but every time I've seen these equine scooters in a game, they just blindly run off cliffs and do stupid, game-ish things. The only well done example I've seen is Red Dead Redemption. With authenticity being soup de jour, I'd expect Rocket to want to bring a lot to the table. I look forward to seeing if the guys can bring dogs to life properly first. Horses are a different kettle of fish. If you try to run your pony off a mountain, it should resist, while shouting whatever is horse for "Pffft. Don't fuckin' think so, buddy." And outwith their vehicluar responsibilities, general animal AI will have to be considered. (for other beasts too) Any half-assed horse addition would make for serious facepalm fuel. And any full attention to detail serious addition would take a lot of time and effort to implement. tl;dr - It's a major task and the DayZ team doesn't do things by half-measures. If horses are added, it won't be any time soon.
  18. I would provide you some links, but I'm not on the computer.Look up "vestibulo-ocular reflex". Dissonance between the motion your eye sees and what your body feels causes nausea. It's the same as sea-sickness and car-sickness. I don't suffer from it myself, but according to numerous accounts from people who DO, turning "Head-bob" off doesn't prevent it. So people like you, who clearly don't know what they're talking about, should consider refraining from spouting the same ignorant crap every day.
  19. The team(s) working on Black Mesa can rest assured they've made an outstanding mod, but there can only be one champion.DayZ is a truly exceptional piece of work. Well deserving of the win. Congratulations to everyone involved.

    Site Suggestion!

The only change needed on the forum is to link the "Create new topic" button to the "search" page. Sorted.

    Diarrhea

OR finding a ghillie someone disposed of and thinking, "that'll wipe off..."

    Emotes/Menus

If the same animations, or more of them, are to be included in SA, a menu would be more sensible. Bear in mind that pretty much every function is able to be remapped to other keys anyway. Also. I would like the guys to add the ability to point in a direction. The number of times that would've saved a couple of minutes of explanation, is beyond numerable.
  23. Defining what it is not, is not the same as enforcing your preferences on everyone. You fail to understand this, and here we still are.
  24. What is it they say about monkeys and Shakespeare? It was bound to happen sooner or later. ^_^Take a deep breath, Mike. It's OK. @OP, I really like the idea of foraging for fruit and fungus. It's this sort of thinking that will make the world feel like a REAL survival scenario. Any expanded cooking/food system would be awesome TBH. It all feels far too simple just now.
