I'm pretty sure it would save you from shrapnel or flying rubble, but if you're getting shot in the head, the best you're likely to get is a bullet AND bits of helmet stuck in your skull. I wouldn't be surprised if the stuff armies use nowadays was designed to absorb some of the potential damage from concussive blasts too.

Suggedtion: leave as50 and m107 alone!
[email protected] replied to gloopsgf's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
To put it bluntly, the reason they were getting duped all the time was because they are overpowered. One shot kills, along with the lack of any kind of movement restriction or inaccuracy (apart from right after sprinting, same as everything else) makes the AS-50 the best close-quarters weapon in DayZ. Oh. And it doubles as a sniper rifle! There's literally ZERO drawbacks, besides the amount of noise it makes. If it handled more realistically, in comparison with the other weapons on offer, and was actually rare like it's supposed to be, I don't think anybody would have grounds to complain about it. EDIT: ......No. -
Suggedtion: leave as50 and m107 alone!
[email protected] replied to gloopsgf's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
AS-50 (probably M107 too) CAN shoot through walls in ArmA/DayZ. Just not every wall.No need to cry. There will no doubt be some form of anti-materiel weaponry. Or, at the very least, a decent sniper. Next topic better be "Suggestion: Stop bringing up the same bullshit topics. You have nothing new to say." EDIT: Even if, in a zed apocalypse, you come across an AS-50. I SERIOUSLY doubt you'd be able to use it successfully. From what I'm led to believe, DayZ survivors are civillains NOT G.I. Joes. -

Infected children in DayZ. Poll.
[email protected] replied to DZR_Mikhail's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I can fully accept this idea. From a purely physiological perspective, infected children would be smaller, therefore weaker than the "adult" infected. In competition for food, they would be at a major disadvantage and would soon die off. Besides that, in (for example) the Bethesda Fallout titles (3/NewVegas), on the odd occasion when you stumble upon a huddled, burnt mess clearly depicting deceased children or entire families, it serves to create a sombre mood and really set the scene. If done tastefully, it can be used to stir up emotion and/or give a brutal, hard-hitting look at what the world has become. If done cheaply, it can get you chased from the village, with pitchforks and burning torches. Care must be taken. It's up to the devs to decide, and it's not a decision to be taken lightly. Technical requirements clearly aren't the most important factor. -
It doesn't even need to damage/destroy the tank. Just penetrate the plating on one side before it deforms.A .50 cal bouncing around inside will make mincemeat of any occupants. To be honest, I'd rather not have tanks kicking about. But that's just my personal preference.

Sticking your new-fangled explosive device underneath (or inside) a popped zed.Any intruders get sprayed with meaty, infected chunks. Your bomb doesn't have to be lethal. You know the guy's going to regret bumping into you.

Thoughts on the M107 / AS50
[email protected] replied to not_today_son.'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Mildots and estimation is a good example of what I mean. Everyone will be able to pick up a gun and fire it at someone, but it takes practice before you can understand why some of your shots aren't on target, and you learn to compensate. When I first found a camo Dragunov, it took a little bit of trial and error to get the best out of the PSO scope. As it should. Everyone accepts this. I just don't understand why it's OK to have a learning curve for these weapons, but it certain people are so entirely against making players learn how to range any other rifle. Optics don't click straight to 200/400/600 metres. Sometimes it makes more sense to guess a bit and aim high rather than range-up, to save time/hassle. I think, as well as a knowledge requirement, it could add another element of tension, along with more choice in how to handle certain situations. Honestly, I just feel like the mechanics are too simple to be considered anything along the lines of simulation. (which is what DayZ looks to be aiming toward in most cases) Weapon maintenance is a discussion for another day. In any case, I look forward to seeing how (if) it's implemented in SA. -
Shields (Low,Medium,Heavy Protection)
[email protected] replied to exiler's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Most riot shields aren't even slightly bullet-proof. Some might be, but most are used for riot control. They're designed to protect against thrown projectiles/shrapnel. Medieval shields would be more likely in a museum. It's highly unlikely that any relics would be left in these castles, considering they are probably tourist attractions. They're on the map, so there's a good chance somebody has already collected their treasures for posterity. -
Should it be released for Mac?
[email protected] replied to zombieslayer615's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
ArmA 2 barely scratches your graphics card compared to the humping your processor gets. I can't speak for the devs in terms of how valid a request this is, but there are always options (bootcamp was already mentioned) I suppose it would depend on how big the demand is for a Mac version. Considering you have the ability to use the windows version anyway, I can't see it happening anytime soon. -

I still don't think the time/effort you put into tracking down gear should have any bearing on your ability to use it properly. If the length of time you spend searching is the only thing that matters, it just turns into "farming for higher levels". It's not impossible to find an AS50 straight after spawning. It's just luck of the draw. If you manage to steal it from someone, THAT likely involved skill, but it still shouldn't mean you automatically know how to handle it. EDIT: If, for example, you walk through the desert for months, and find an accordion. It doesn't mean you can play the accordion. But now that you've found it, you have the opportunity to learn how. -
I just want one of those Jack Daniels bottles to spawn full for a change. But a big bag of weed wouldn't go amiss either. (Over sidechat) Chabowski: Has anyone in Cherno got any skins? EDIT: On the point made by OrLok : I'd imagine in SA there will be more than just "antibiotics" to find. Depending on what you're trying to cure, the wrong choice of medication could prove fatal. Also, I'd like to see characters build up resistances to medication, to stop people from just eating every pill they find in the hopes of curing themselves. eg. If you've built up a resistance to certain drugs by taking them unnecessarily, when you DO need them, you'll need to find a LOT more of them.

New spawn point - @ 10000 feet
[email protected] replied to Feral (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
^^ It would be a pisser though, spawning at 10000 feet, then having to find a parachute. Might be a game breaker. -

The current game mechanics make using any weapon so incomprehensibly simple, it pretty much negates ANY skill requirement on the part of the player. The number of people defending the current functionality is the truly retarded thing. Making everything more complicated is the only way to go if the devs want YOUR skill to be more important than that of your game character. FACT @B00tsy, I don't think any weapon should be removed. In fact, I'd like there to be a far greater variety, provided it fits with lore. Just make them all rare as fuck. The simple fact is, IRL most people wouldn't be able to pick up and master any and all forms of weapon instantly, so they shouldn't do it in DayZ. This isn't a CoD/BF run and gun game. There should be some requirement for players to actually know roughly what they're doing, in ALL situations. EDIT: I think my response was probably a bit rude, so I changed it around. EDIT2: Example?I know exactly what I mean when I say "skill". There's no way in hell you could pop a skull at range unless you know how to work your rifle properly. I'm not talking "character progression". That all can get to fuck. I mean, just one example, the "zeroed XXXm" on the HUD needs to go. If you want to range your rifle, you have to know how many clicks in whatever direction = the range you need. Unless someone who has taught themselves teaches you how to do it, you should have to test it out for yourself, keep notes, and practice. These skills shouldn't just apply to shooting. Rocket has already mentioned that disease symptoms may be recognisable to people who are familiar with them or know what to look for. IF foraging for berries/mushrooms etc. makes it into SA, there will be people who know what is safe to eat. People with experience of things IRL should be able to apply their knowledge to DayZ. Everyone else will learn from experiencing these things as they play the game. EDIT3: -

I personally don't give them a second thought, but you're probably spot-on, Roo. On the subject of OP-ness, I don't see the problem TBH. In any situation in DayZ, about 80% of the outcome (in my awesome estimating skills) is due to luck. I've personally hatcheted a couple of TWS 50cal dicks in my time. Player skill should play a part in successful use of top-notch gear. If they manage to ramp up the difficulty significantly, the lack of people willing to take the time to learn the correct techniques will allow gameplay to balance naturally and authentically. -
Third person vs First person view
[email protected] replied to Rising (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'm not bringing it up with the aim of having the trackIR functionality removed, or even dumbed down, I'm simply pointing out something that I noticed. I'd rather not have abilities which are only available to those who wish to spend money. However, if the pitch up/down was available for basic keyboard and mouse players I would make good use of it. I think it would be a worthwhile addition to the game anyway. It also might encourage more players towards FPV gameplay. -
What if we removed the crosshair?
[email protected] replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I really don't feel that crosshairs are necessary considering the accurate function of optics in Bohemia titles. Shooting in 3dp, to me, should be like shooting one-handed, wrong-handed (with your feet if your ambi') and not even looking. The aiming deadzone should also be jacked up a bit, and enforced IMO. (10%?) With crosshairs enabled, aiming skill feels less important. That's the main reason I dislike it. I'm not exactly shit-hot, but at the very least, I like to feel like I'm doing the aiming. Also, if it prevents ESPhacks etc. crosshair removal should get everyone's support. -
That's what I just said.Point is, without the option to throw heavier plating in your webbing, body armour for the most part, will just slow you down. DayZ is more about crossing huge swathes of land, gathering supplies to survive. Being able to move at a decent pace is probably more likely to save your life than 9mm resistant armour. I'm not going to wear anything that will restrict my movement unless it's going to protect me from the weapons I'm likely to be attacked with.

Third person vs First person view
[email protected] replied to Rising (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
@ Kaiga, Incremental lean (as you so aptly describe it, Heiduk (unless that's the official name of the feature, in which case consider me slightly less impressed, but still grateful for the info)) applies in Take on Helicopters, so I see no reason why the Bohemia tech-men wouldn't include it in DayZ, where it would be more useful. In the case of it's featuring, it provides users of TrackIR (or its alternatives) an ability to peek over cover without having to stand up. FYI - I consider almost anything beyond keyboard/mouse/tower/monitor to be extras. Because they are. In 3dp enabled servers, the percieved "advantage" is available to all. On that note, it's unrealistic, but still entirely fair. In FPV only, if only TrackIR users get the ability to poke just their heads out, it's both unrealistic and unfair. As foreign a concept as it may seem to some, I like my logic to be logical. -
While the gunologists factize the topic, I'd like to make the point - Whenever anybody attempts to kill another player, they use their most lethal toys. I'd only consider "body armour" worth the time if it is going to stop rifle rounds.Don't DayZmod "Hero" skins supposedly have armour? If that's true I've never noticed any ballistic protection in all my heroing days. And that's my point. My knowledge of the ins-and-outs of weave vs. plate (or whatever) isn't exactly spectacular. I have occasion to "geek-out" about many things, but NATO aggreements isn't one of them. @Enforcer, I'd also like to see impact-pain simulated in some way. There's a good chance you'd be on your ass for a whiley, and when you get up you'd move at reduced pace. Maybe a "Resident Evil" injured animation (hand over your abdomen, with a slight limp) would work. Just a thought, Players already shrug off gunfire without batting an eye. "Injury" needs to be expanded on. IMO EDIT: spelling

DayZ Standalone Discussion
[email protected] replied to griffinz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Just me being pedantic, but by its very definition, if everyone can do it. it IS fair.On-(this)-Topic. Soooooo, how 'bout dem Standalones, eh? -
I couldn't bring myself to make a choice in the poll, but I'm of the opinion that ALL ammo should be rare as fuck, so what do I know? Hunting rifles strike me as a rural thing, and the villages in Chernarus aren't exactly huge. For example, in Prigorodky (SP?) I'd imagine maybe a half-dozen rifles stashed about. But I can't seriously picture there being a massive stockpile of ammunition. IF body-armour is in SA it would make sense to have ammo to counter its protection, but steel/copper or steel/nylon rounds would have to be the Mountain Dew of bullets. Less emphasis on firearms in general would be more in keeping with the setting IMO. Guns + ammo should be SERIOUSLY rare + valuable. The greatest commodity in the post-apocalyptic world. World War 4 will be fought with sticks and stones.

More ways to gather food and water
[email protected] replied to Rick the Survivor's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'd like to see foraging etc. come with a certain knowledge requirement. As we all know, not all berries are good berries. And some of the mushrooms out there are, well, magic... and/or exremely poisonous. As LKyrah said, you shouldn't be able to comfortably live out your days in the same area. The wildlife would soon get wise to your schemes and GTFO, fruit and veg take time to replenish. However, IMO in this context more consideration should be given to player's gear. DayZ 2017 makes it harder to stay fed, until you have a hatchet/knife/matches, then it's plain sailing again. Clearly options and variety are on the wishlist, but upping the challenge should take priority. -
Third person vs First person view
[email protected] replied to Rising (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The movement TrackIR detects (if properly supported in game) could potentially allow for peeking over walls/round corners etc.Preventing that kind of advantage has been the rallying cry of the FPV-fans. Sounds like you want 3dp removed so you can make SA pay-to-win via peripheral hardware. EDIT: Before anyone starts barking, I still consider myself neutral on the matter. I'd just be happier if I was allowed to have my non-combat interactions (campsite-banter and barbecues) in 3dp FPV-only wouldn't kill the game for me, but clearly many people wouldn't appreciate the change, -
I will leave Steven running and "eject" so he runs out of water. EDIT: Thinking about it a bit more. Horses wouldn't need all that much maintenance. If a horse is thirsty/hungry it will find something to drink/eat. If you don't keep it happy, when you forget to put your handbrake on it'll probably wander off the first chance it gets.
