Night and Day, universal time
[email protected] replied to Thegoon84's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
If I find a good server that's GMT, it's nice to know that I can settle in to a particular style of play for a good few hours. I don't support having every server on the same 24hour cycle (all at that EXACT same timezone) but I do like having the 24 hour rotation. People will (or should) have the option to play a day server when it's night IRL. Different folks like different things, and not everybody has the free time to schedule their lives around their preferred playing time. :P Maybe there will be servers which compress time to 4 days per day, but a lot of people like the 24 hour system. If scaled down days were on every server, those who like long nights would be getting snubbed. As it stands, you could play on a night server for a couple of hours, then switch to a day server if you want and nobody gets hurt. -
Wake up to find the zombie Apocalypse
[email protected] replied to da_beast's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'd like to see a wider variety of spawn possibilites, but nothing to the extent that it starts to enforce any kind of defined backstory. I like the uncertainty and the freedom that comes with it. I realise waking up in a house isn't exactly the same as ramming a character's history down your throat. It's just the way my thought process goes I suppose. No matter where you spawn, you can't be guaranteed that you'll be alone. That's part of the beauty of it. Aye, being in a cottage in the middle of butt-fuck nowhere will reduce the chance of someone else already being there, but you can never be sure. Just as an example. With all the new interiors in SA, by the time I'm done with DayZ I'll definitely have had a look in every building on the map at least once. I'm inquisitive like that. Maybe a proximity limit could help a little. But taking away risks feels like it spoils the fun. As long as there's no "spawn protection" I'll be plenty satisfied. -
New concept for Server System [DayZ Standalone]
[email protected] replied to Ernst's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Then you couldn't get back into a "higher difficulty" server. If you think you can start on Mercenary, then go Veteran, then go back, that totally defeats the purpose. EDIT: For a server that fails. If you're going to be locked out of a server (for however long) if the server has crashed, there's no way for the server to communicate that to whatever monitoring system controls the timer. -
New Update Makes DayZ Extremely Difficult
[email protected] replied to GrassyKnoll's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's a shame we can't have more zeds spawn all at the same time. It'd be WAY more fun/dangerous, and a horde would be an actual horde instead of the same 10 guys every 5 seconds! I like the struggle, but trying to make a stand anywhere feels like bailing out a boat with a teaspoon. -
New Update Makes DayZ Extremely Difficult
[email protected] replied to GrassyKnoll's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If the zeds had my powers of perception, they'd be bloody useless. ^_^EDIT: - On-topic The respawn rate of Zeds has always been daft. I remember, a looooooong while back, during the n00b-ages, being pinned down in a post office to the east of NWAF because every time I killed a zed I could see another spawn outside and instantly run in the door. There's "challenging", and then there's "bloody stupid". -
DayZ Devblog 4th February 2013
[email protected] replied to griffinz's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
With all the talk of prisons and asylums, swamps and enterable buildings, I forgot to ask, Do you think we'll be able to go for a squint inside a power station?I don't expect to find much of interest, but the number of times I've walked past and not even thought about the interior... ...It's got me curious now. -

DayZ Standalone Suggestion - Carrier on Map
[email protected] replied to master11388's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
In any case, I think "anti-game authenticity" should outweigh "rule of cool" Come to think of it, if you're in a dinghy, how do you get onto an aircraft carrier? EDIT: That's not me being snarky, I just don't know the mechanics of it. I always imagined, unless you come by air, someone would have to lift you into it. They're pretty feckin' huge. -
Personally, I feel the ease with which you can mantle over fences/walls should depend on what's in your hands. With both hands free you should be able to vault a fence quickly and easily, With a one handed weapon it should be much the same as being unarmed, except you'd be more careful, so it might take slightly longer. With both hands on your gun, getting over a waist-high wall should be at least a little bit of a hassle.

DayZ Standalone Suggestion - Carrier on Map
[email protected] replied to master11388's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Unspecified lore isn't worth specualting about ATM. What I meant in the first post was, if the mainland is getting overrun with Zeds, I'd expect the navy to call it quits and leave. Granted, anything can be handwaved when it comes down to it, just that particular scenario doesn't ring true to me. -

How did your anchored aircraft carrier manage to hit a mine? -
DayZ Standalone Suggestion - Carrier on Map

Powered or not, a boat in water will move. -
I do think it would be good to have individual markers on maps. Maybe even make it so you can hand your map to someone else so they can copy marked loactions onto theirs. I tend to mark hostile camps on my map, just so I can remember to take particular care around certain areas. In doing so, I alert the camp owners to the fact that their camp isn't hidden anymore, which kinda sucks. If each map becomes an individual entity (like most items in SA will be, by the sounds of things) this idea is totally plausible. BTW the topic title is fairly misleading. Not handy in a suggestion thread.

DayZ Standalone Suggestion - Carrier on Map
[email protected] replied to master11388's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
While an aircraft carrier would be interesting to investigate, it likely wouldn't have stayed in the same position for the whole time between the Zed outbreak and the setting of the game. The extra islands should give us enough of a reason to make use of boats in SA. -
Help enriching the swamp experience!

Leeches suck. -
We need a collection tin for the "Euphoria in DayZ" fund. :emptycan: @OP, There are clearly far more urgent tasks for the team to be working on. Generally, polish comes last. Clunky animation isn't exactly going to be a deal-breaker. Folks just aren't that shallow.

DayZ Standalone Suggestion - Loot
[email protected] replied to Bazwalt's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
If you're looking right at any item, the "Take item" prompt appears on the screen. I don't see how making things glow could possibly improve any facet of gameplay. The point of having items hidden/scattered is to make them easier to overlook. Only increasing the effort required will enhance the gameplay experience. That's just the kind of game DayZ is. -
Clothing Durability & On ground models.
[email protected] replied to m.w. vindicator's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Sadly we've only been given hints as to what inventory management will entail in SA. I'd bet dollars to donuts that the 3D models representing items will be there in your gear for you to have a look at. Whether or not their physical condition will be represented on the model is still a "wait and see" question. But it would be cool as fuck! -
Incredibly Minor Gripes Thread

"you must in a a forest and near a tree to harvest wood" [one step to the left] - Wood! Score! EDIT: I'm surprised it's not burned into my TV by now. -
The benefits of rabbit meat: low in cholersterol low in calories low in saturated fats high in protein low in sodium 100% of the RDA for B12  Rabbits have the highest protein % of any meat you'd get from DayZ animals. Although, to balance the game more authentically, I'd have just upped the % chance for any wild animal to be a rabbit and jack up the number of rabbit spawns in general. There should be hundreds of the little buggers. They breed like rabbits!

Vegetation that overgrows its bounds with time.
[email protected] replied to mick17's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Where did you find that photo of my house? Even if the growth of vegetation isn't possible, it'd be nice to have that sort of scenery scattered around. The product of neglect, after the maintainer, whoever that may have been, either succumbed to the infection, evacuated, or was killed. Unless you've got Jumanji vines, I think regrowing plants to cover a path would take longer than game-time would allow. It's a cool concept though. I wouldn't be surprised to see something like this become entirely likely in future video games. -
Bleeding rate being tied to how hard your character breaths
[email protected] replied to badmagix's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
And the 2 minutes I get to play (before my CPU explodes) will be glorious! -
I understand what you're saying. Nobody actually plays the game 24 hours a day.Personally I like the fact that when I see the sun starting to rise, I know I've still got another hour or so before I lose my cover entirely. Same vice-versa. When the sun is setting, there's a good while to go before it's pitch black, and it gives plenty time to get back to base and swap out for "nocturnal" gear. (No sense in having a scoped rifle if I can't see shit)

Camper, Mobile home, R.V. (Recreational Vehicle)What everyone else seems to be thinking of, I'd call a procession, convoy or wagon train probably. I'd like to see them, but you wouldn't be able to live in the back when it's in motion, because the collision detection doesn't allow players standing on vehicles (entities) to move with them, unfortunately. It would be badass to sit in the back, with the doors open, firing your LMG at the bandits that thought it was a good idea to chase you.

Fight night 3 had it too, but the "download a fighter" section was just full of Hitler and Harry Potter.TBH the only problem I see is the disparity in camera quality across the entire community. I made an ArmA skin to use in DayZmod. It's got my ink, piercings and sideys, but most servers have custom files set to 0Kb, What a pisser. EDIT: IF DayZ ever got a feature like this, it would be good for them to have an easy-to-use texture mapping tool, for slight positioning corrections (colour balance too) It's quite a pain in the arse to texture a default model that wasn't made for the unique shape of your face and have it look good. (for n00bs like me anywayz)
