What do not smokers do when they stress out? They stay stressed. Physiological stress-relief, IS stress relief. I hate to appeal to majority, but if you believe the percieved benefits are imaginary, many smokers would disagree. Even if it's a placebo, psychology would tell you that the effects are VERY real. Physical repurcussions do have a tangible effect, nobody should be able to deny that.
-
I apologise for the wall of text which follows, I'm just sharing my views. I encourage you to read and respond. Any beneficial sensation from smoking is VERY short lived. But it definitely serves to calm your nerves. Also, it stops you from feeling hungry for an hour or so, but I don't know why. It also occasionally makes you need a dump when you didn't before. Craving a cigarette is NOT the opposite of having a cigarette, in terms of sensation. Smoking (+ aim) / not-smoking (- aim) is not an authentic representation. Needing to eat/drink 15% more regularly while craving (10 minutes after smoking, for +/- 10 hours play time? We should be able to quit eventually, lol) would probably represent the function better IMO. I do not have, and never have had, a "smokers cough". EDIT: Though I do occasionally have a Barry White voice in the morning. /EDIT. All this comes from personal experience. If you don't smoke, though I'd appreciate your input, you simply don't hold the perspective to make assumptions on the subject. Unless you happen to be a doctor of biochemistry. As for alcohol. It thins the blood. So resistance to cold/pain(if pain is a SA feature) would be balanced by the fact that your aim would be less reliable and you'd bleed out faster. (maybe 10% faster?) Just as IRL, you'd have the option not to take up smoking. I feel this subject is worth continued discussion, I understand people don't like smoking, and some REALLY don't like smoking. Lets just try to avoid blatant nay-sayer attitudes, k?

wait or late? what if next gen consoles come?
[email protected] replied to whatsmynameagain's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
On release, consoles will be on par with gaming PCs in general. More than capable of running DayZ and probably many more modern games (like the Witcher 3 when it eventually shows up!!)Console games can be crafted and tweaked to work perfectly with their hardware. It's just a fact of life. This isn't about your ability to upgrade a PC, and I'm not making unreasonable statements. But it didn't take long for you to jump straight on the defensive. Crappy ports are usually console to PC ports. PC to console tend to be far better in terms of what people believe the "closed" machines are capable of. PC, being open source and entirely open to upgrades, is a different kettle of fish. I don't understand the attitude. They're different platforms, they'll be performing different functions. The elitism is just juvenile. -

Ya, I noticed there's a little X in the corner. I do like to see the banter though, I'm sure I'll live. Some of the sigs round here are proper class. It'd be a shame to "ignore" them. I think mine was just too animated and obnoxious for my own liking. EDIT: I'll just toddle along now, some of the fella's seem more pally with eachother, and I don't like to intrude. ^_^ -
New loot spawning system + teamwork
[email protected] replied to thedoubled's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I like it. It's not necessarily restricting what lonewolves can achieve, but it does give group players some group-centric abilities. I do play alone a lot of the time, so don't think I'm being unreasonably biased. I can accept, in these situations, I'd just have to go further afield for loot because a particluar item is inaccessable. It would only be acceptable if the hard-to-reach loot was NOT rare drops. Just more of the regular stuff. A can of beans rolled under the oven, balanced by the fact that more players will inevitably require more food. -

I appreciate that people have more to advertise, and this is a perfectly sensible idea. But honestly, I removed the gif from my own sig because I find the images ever so slightly distracting. Especially while trying to decipher a wall of text. But if you're stuck for support, just tell them I said yes. -
There should be a porta-loo (mobile shitter) at the construction yard/factory with "Sergey woz 'ere" scrawled in crap all up the inside of the door.

New concept for Server System [DayZ Standalone]
[email protected] replied to Ernst's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Well, there has to be a standard set at some point. Surely they can't keep using OFP settings for an entirely new franchise, can they? From what I can tell, there will probably, at the very least, be 3dp and no-3dp servers. -

OP, the poll question isn't a yes or no question. -

With standard hardware accross the board, there's a good chance any console port will run better on next-gen consoles than it would on most contemporary PCs. Owing to the fact that it can be optimised fully, with zero guesswork. Development of a console version CAN NOT begin until the game is considered complete. And that won't be any time in the near future. Current-gen consoles are getting to be 8 years old. It's no suprise that the PC elite will scoff at the idea of DayZ on Xbox or Playstation. IMHO it's pretty short sighted to deny the potential, and pretty ignorant considering any port (which would probably be outsourced to another studio) wouldn't affect the PC version's development in the slightest. -

Like Minecraft, which is now available on Xbox360.It doesn't matter if you "vote no". If it's a financially successful product, it will probably be ported to console. -

Even with SA foundation release imminent, DayZ will not be a finished game for at least another year, probably more. The next-gen consoles will likely be well-rooted by the time a port of DayZ comes around. (just my estimation) -
New concept for Server System [DayZ Standalone]
[email protected] replied to Ernst's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I can't be 100% sure, but I'm led to believe there will be no crosshair in ANY server in standalone. At least, it was a topic Rocket posed for discussion, and "get rid" was the general theme. Unless you object because you often switch between "recruit", "regular" and "veteran" servers, I suspect you're just ignorant of the topic at hand. Feel free to correct my assumption, but I can't see any other reason why you'd deny this idea so bluntly. (unless you were planning on cheating at some point in the future) EDIT: To be clear. Having characters locked to certain difficulty levels. Not necessarily particular servers. -
Played Metal Gear Solid. Started smoking. Didn't get any better at sniping..... .....Got a cool bandana. Still ran out of bullets..... Computer games lie!

New concept for Server System [DayZ Standalone]
[email protected] replied to Ernst's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Stopping your character from being lost is probably the biggest benfit the main hive provides to individual gamers. I've lost a couple of play sessions due to private hives going down and NEVER coming back, it sucks when that happens. If it would prevent loot-farming and deter combat-logging, I'd be willing to risk it. But I totally understand that most people wouldn't. I suppose I've said all I can. It's not up to me to decide these things, I just thought I'd share my views. -
Yup. Every time you see an empty JD bottle, a fairy gets its kneecaps shot out. true story.

Seasons in the standalone wich are sync. With the real world.
[email protected] replied to kuusj98's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
If it were to follow natural seasonal progression, Russia would be a decent basis for the system, considering Chernarus is kinda Eastern-bloc. -
There's a discussion about this in the forums somewhere. I'd find it, but I can't open tabs/paste links in this browser. The jist is, the anti-smoking lobbyists will throw a hissy-fit. It seems with any benefit, even with balanced drawbacks, non-smokers see it as unfair. Due to the fact that non-smokers REFUSE to smoke in a game. But murdering hundreds of people is fine. <_<

Seasons in the standalone wich are sync. With the real world.
[email protected] replied to kuusj98's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
That'd probably be a better way to implement such a feature.Seasons synched to the real world would take too long to pass for gameplay to see any discernable change of pace. A quicker tick-by would allow changes to make a more noticable impact on play-style. It might even be more suitable in bursts of a week or two at a time, so more characters stand a chance of living through many seasons. I might be rambling now, but I'm pretty sure I've got a rough idea of what I mean. Whatever the case may be, it could only work properly if all servers are in the same season at all times. ("properly", in this context, being an entirely subjective term ^_^) EDIT: By that I mean, servers "season" should all be winter at the same time, spring at the same time etc. Not always winter. That would be missing the point of seasons in the first place. -
New concept for Server System [DayZ Standalone]
[email protected] replied to Ernst's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think you missed what I meant, If characters are locked to certain server types then transfer of anything would be impossible. Just as you can't migrate between private hives in the mod. Switching between server types was YOUR idea. I think lockdown would be better, and less exploitable. -
I'm sure everyone has thought that at some point, it's very strange. Something that will no doubt be addressed eventually. Unless they're going to make it so Zeds can hear you opening doors (and come to investigate) the door noises would mostly be just for flavour. Bonus fancy stuff isn't high priority. There would be the odd occasion where you could hear a door and it would warn you of a player, but those occurrences are prbably few and far between seein as how most doors are left open all the time. Something to look forward to I guess.

New concept for Server System [DayZ Standalone]
[email protected] replied to Ernst's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Just trying to clarify your intention with the system. To be honest I'd rather just have different characters locked to different sets of servers without the migration. Most people I know, who play with friends, tend to play in the same style of server anyway. As for myself personally. I've gotten used to having different characters dotted about, due to all the private hives and other mods. Considering that not everyone will be able to join the same games at the same times I keep my lonewolf and team-play characters entirely seperate. Maybe being able to drop difficulty would be to the benefit of some people, but if given the choice, I'd prefer to have more than one character.
