Acceptable age to play?
[email protected] replied to Cap'n (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'd like to make a little point, since it's going to annoy me if I don't. Pointing out your own comparative maturity, like it's an E-peen swinging contest, will strike many people as juvenile behavior. You should be old enough to know better by now. ^_^ -
combat / agro icon improvement..
[email protected] replied to irl-calibre's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think instead of an icon to signify aggro/combat, the expression of your character's face should change. (think Doomguy face) You obviously can't see your own face(duh), but it would be a nice little addition for when you're part of a group. In general, the best indicator that you're in combat is the fact that you're in combat. -
Devblog Friday anyone?
[email protected] replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It can't be tomorrow already. Tomorrow is always AFTER today, isn't it?! EDIT: Tomorrow, the day after tomorrow will be tomorrow, then tomorrow will be today, and today will be yesterday. For future reference. -
DayZ: Most Private Hives Are Not Real DayZ
[email protected] replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Damn, that sounds like an awesome setup. When the zed apocalypse strikes, I've got my shed out the back. It's like that phonebox outside the Daily Planet. Without the mild-mannered newspaper reporter. -
Acceptable age to play?
[email protected] replied to Cap'n (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
To be fair, there are age restrictions on all forms of media, and they're there for a reason, but IMO anyone who believes they can judge the character of another person solely by their age bracket is lacking the same respect and maturity they're demanding from others. -

Thought on nutrition, food, drinks, and survival in general.
[email protected] replied to Jeremiah Cross's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
It would be nice to have spawns scaled over the course of sever-life to have tinned food become seriously scarce and more wild/planted food grow. But that's just wishful thinking on my part. If the potential was there for survivors to create a settlement, I'd jump at the chance to start building a kitchen. (quickly consumable resources give more reasons to go out on raids) You'd get to try my world famous "don't ask" stew. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. -
Never flip ATV when it is stuck, Script Restriction "40"
[email protected] replied to Assassin8813's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Damn, was just getting into it too. Honestly, I haven't a clue what you guys have been up to with the emulator,(still trying to get the sour taste out of my mouth) so I'm not the best judge, just don't be so quick to condemn. It's not the engines fault that admins don't know how to update their servers. -

It's just an object with a toggleable spawner, either yay or nay. Since we're just throwing ideas around, it's worth shooting for the optimum conditions. If loot-piles is a less demanding alternative so be it. But it's not how I'd implement such a feature ideally. -

Fanboy all you like, but don't talk pish. :PGranted, there may be more engines with "DayZ" potential than just RV. But convincing everyone "galaxies" has a better prospect is going to be the hard-sell of hard-sells. That game is Fredo. "You broke my heart SWG... You broke my heart." I had imagined any foraging mechanic would work similar to Skyrim. A variety of fruits/seeds/mushrooms are able to be harvested, and would only renew after a pre-defined time. It stops areas from being infinitely exploitable, and would require that the player has some kind of knowledge of where to look for food sources. A side-effect of this is, a keen eye would start to spot player "trails" forming. High traffic areas would be comparatively barren. A smart tracker might even be able to use this to find and stalk other survivors. As a side note. If wildlife is going to be improved upon in terms of behavior, the animals should eat these plants too. -
SUGGESTION: Alcohol, and how it would effect gameplay.
[email protected] replied to Filipino-Hooker's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
It's already mentioned that any sensation of warmth is just in the mind, but we've had a similar debate about smoking in another topic. It could be noted that alcohol can make pain more bearable, though we don't necessarily consider it a painkiller. Is it better to have substances in game affect characters purely with their tangible, physical effects? Or is the power of the mind something that can be expressed in DayZ? -
I lol'd Aaaaaah, Sergey. He's now popular the world over. His mother must be very proud. @Viktor - We could have the entire "Hammperpoint Interactive" office building. It's just a photocopier and a money-counting machine.

Consider the new patch PRACTISE
[email protected] replied to Xianyu's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Did you just call me thick then repeat the point that I made? Well, I never..... EDIT: Just for reference. Yes, you CAN be stealthy. And it doesn't mean you have to take ages about it. You just have to think. It's a wild leap for some, I know, but it's going to be pretty feckin' necessary if SA is anything like expected. Once again, for you fellas at the back. Whatever challenge is presented, is the challenge you have to deal with. It's the design of the game. Simple as. There's not one "right" way to do anything. It's ALL choice. If running in like Rambo makes it more difficult, another method may have different results. To say it's not up to you is just showing ignorance of the possibilities. -
Consider the new patch PRACTISE
[email protected] replied to Xianyu's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You do choose. You can either be stealthy, avoid aggro, and loot successfuly OR, run about like a headless chicken until you get shot or the Zeds get you. I may be full of sarcasm, but overcoming the challenge you've been presented is EXACTLY what everyone is expected to do. The fact it's become a meme doesn't stop "deal with it" from being the perfect phrase here. -

Somebody obviously hasn't crossed the apocalypse on a scrambler yet.The quad is pretty solid in comparison. It just kinda likes to roll over sometimes. -
Clothing Durability & On ground models.
[email protected] replied to m.w. vindicator's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
On the subject of crafting and repair, It'd be very easy for such a mechanic to cause a very authentic idea to feel totally forced and artificial. Bear with me on this. If a weapon has degraded to a very poor condition, it's still only the sum of its parts. Using the best-functioning pieces from two of the same model of weapon isn't going to get you a "perfect" weapon, since both will have been used to some degree and will have suffered wear and tear. I would welcome the added ability to repair/maintain all my gear, but if weapons can be fixed in a Fallout 3 style "combine to repair" system, it's not going to be a very realistic portrayal of weapon maintenance. EDIT: I think the way it's going to be handled in SA will probably involve cleaning your gun and doing your best to avoid weapon degradation in the first place, rather than fixing up broken guns. Disclaimer: There's a good chance I imagined that rather than heard it. /EDIT The very same system would work perfectly for clothing and backpacks. You'd just need a needle and thread. And probably a knife or scissors. -
Yeah, just recycle the "stinky-pile" from the first (second) Red Harvest mission, except with coyote patrol packs and flashlights strewn all over the place.

Secrets will only be secret until the first time somebody finds it. A Quake/Duke3D room kinda only works in singleplayer games. The kinds of easter eggs I'd like implemented would be subtle references, that if you don't get it, you wouldn't know it was even a reference to anything. I wouldn't like there to be anything that (I HATE saying this) breaks immersion too much. A wall, covered with photoshopped photos of Rocket, would be a bit too immersion breaking IMHO. EDIT: Quads, if included, should have a 50% chance to initially spawn on their side. Maybe also have the option to reload your hatchet. Even though it would serve no actual purpose. Maybe a little memorial to suicider idiots at the lighthouse closest to Kamenka.

I'm waiting to see if "Chernarus +" has a version of Strekov (seen on the IRL map). It could be the Atlantis of DayZ

Inventory management and 'Tetris physics'
[email protected] replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
You can stay in the box if you like, I think this is the direction DayZ should be heading.Making inventory management into a system where, a little thought and preparation could save your life. EDIT: It's sounding like, for SA, we're going to have pockets on clothes too. Which is awesome. You'd be able to bypass the hassle of searching your backpack by having ammo and bandages in useful pockets, just in case. -

If the risk of vitamin deficiency is added, the most important new feature would be the ability to raid allotments for fruit and veg. Previously, I've brought up the idea of cooking meals (as a potential group activity) to give different effects depending on the ingredients used. I think these suggestions would tie together nicely. Nutrition would be a valuable addition to the overall experience IMO. EDIT: Hunger management currently feels very artificial. Whether you're a little peckish, or literally starving to death, 1 tin of beans will leave you full up. I think more "body-management" in general would be a good idea. -
Makes you feel old, doesn't it?Going even FURTHER back. Does anybody remember when posts used to be relevant to the topic? Those were the days..... @OP It sounds like we're going to be getting something along those lines in the future. Personally, I hope whatever we do end up with manages to add these kinds of attacks without having to resort to quick time events.

Nope, Russia. "Tjechie" - "The Czech Republic", is the basis for "Chernarus". If you look it up, you'll see that the team did an absolutely AMAZING job of recreating that area in their East Chernarus map. IRL Cherno is "Nestemice", The real Elektro is called "Povrly". Probably the most suitable locations for a convention. You won't see me there though. I find it safest to avoid other survivors. EDIT: I didn't know about it either, but honestly, now that I've seen it, it's seriously impressive.

IIRC Rocket wants some kind of "emergency unarmed combat" in SA, in my mind, a "rifle-shove" is in the same boat (not damaging, but pushes zeds back) As for limiting their use, that kind of action wouldn't stop zeds from hitting you, it would just stop them from being able to do it so often. So it's not going to be able to save your ass indefinitely. You'd have to be facing the guy your wanting to shove, so you couldn't shove more than one zed at a time anyway.
