Third person vs First person view
[email protected] replied to Rising (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I understand what you mean, but that's like saying "it's easier to poke someone's eye out than replace fossil fuels" From my understanding we're getting different server settings anyway. It'd be easier to convince people who DO want FPV only to use those settings for their servers than to convince people who DON'T want those settings to change their minds. From what I've heard, people who prefer FPV will set their servers to 3dp:on to get more players. THERE'S your problem. -
Waypoints only allowed with a GPS
[email protected] replied to TheG4Gaming's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'm sure your intention was to make it sound rediculous. but the fact is, within reason, all those facets of life you mentioned would improve the world of DayZ.Hypothetically, if there's going to be a GPS with waypoint placement, the waypoint should be on the GPS, not floating in front of your face. I still think it should be removed. How Identical are the SIGNS with the NAME OF THE TOWN on them?Pretty unique if you ask me. If you can't navigate, learn. At least try thinking FFS. -
Reddit - Jan 2013 - Q&A with Rocket
[email protected] replied to SmashT's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
When asked a question, it's only polite to attempt to give an answer. And that's exactly what happened.RE, price, again. Since otherZ was "worth" the price, people are obviously willing to fork out for this kind of thing, but as I said, value is subjective. You only have to look at what the development process will be going through to realise that the increase in price over time will be tempered by the features and quality of the product's contemporary state. This pricing model is perfectly sensible. If you're going to be checking the quality of a product before you spend money on it, all I can say is "Duh". -

@ Het, It's not necessarily "harder". In fact, it makes gunplay easier if you play in FPV IMO. The main reason I prefer 3dp is, first person is FUCKING BORING. If I wanted to watch jogging, for hours at a time, from a first person perspective, I'd go jogging. -
Right, I'm just going to say it. I have never seen the problem with 3dp because that's how the game has always been. In hindsight, I've probably been "periscoped" hundreds of times, and while unfortunate, IMO it's nothing to get up in arms about. Het, I don't think your evil genius is the solution we're looking for this time. What I would suggest is, only allow players to switch to 3dp when they have either no weapon equipped or both weapons holstered/shouldered. Surely nobody wants to go into a fight deliberately unarmed? Drawing a weapon would force folk into FPV for combat, and I can still check out my swish gear when I'm sitting by the campfire hoofin' down some horsemeat, or running the Berezino marathon. I only suggest this because it perfectly suits my playstyle, but that's the only reason anyone suggests any "solutions". There's so much freedom to choose how to play the game you'll NEVER find a happy medium. The difference between the "survival adventure" players and the "combat simulator" players can be HUGE at times. So any sweeping judgement is always going to be met with "NOOOOOOOO!". Sometimes folk just don't know what's good for them.

DayZ SA NEEDS basements (seriously)
[email protected] replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Horny, are you off your meds again? -
Oh. The impression I got from the OP was just ghillie/grass/transparency. Talking in more general terms, I have less of an opinion. If the standalone introduces a depth of field effect, it might help mitigate the player/surroundings contrast.
-
That would only work in a certain context. There are many more potential backdrops than just grass and forest. What about concrete? Or sand? You'd have to make some distinction between what's going to provide camouflage and what won't. And staying hidden depends more on player's ability to spot you than the material you lie on. (not easily replicated by a computer, if at all) Even if you are perfectly hidden, there should be a chance someone will pick out your silhouette. Transparency would be increasing your camouflage in a very artificial manner.

Reddit - Jan 2013 - Q&A with Rocket
[email protected] replied to SmashT's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Regardless of player hot-spots, the entire area of the map is accessible to you.Even the entire expanse of water is "playable area". More than that even. You can travel for MILES beyond the edges of the "map". It just keeps going. There's not much to see, but it's definitely "playable area". Granted, everything could change for SA, but I doubt they're building a wall around Chernarus+. EDIT: On the subject of price, I think they've underestimated their worth. Of course, "value" is subjective, but I think you'd be hard pushed to find someone who would find $40 exorbitant. -
Does this ever annoy anyone else?

Seriously though. If Rocket plainly said "DayZ is supposed to be in 1st person only", I'd be slightly peeved, but I'd totally accept it. It'd be interesting to know just how flexible (or inflexible) other people would be on the matter. -

^^ Poking the beast with a stick :D -
I've got to agree with aksuduud on this one. Even though I've probably got totally different reasoning. Even just a little bit of movement can drastically increase the sensation of involvement in your character's actions. (also, it'll stop cheating fuckers from being able to stick a bit of blu-tac on the middle of their monitor as a crosshair ) I don't really have an opinion on the standing/crouching/prone difference, as I only very rarely use prone position. An extra option wouldn't harm anyone. If some people would find it useful then it'd be a good addition.

Don't even make third-person an option for DayZ standalone
[email protected] replied to Pomegranate's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
After a little more thought, the idea of going into a menu to switch camera angles isn't bad. (I haven't seen any confirmation personally, but everyone keeps mentioning it)(a link would be nice) I'm sure everyone understands the fear and tension that FPV adds, I do anyway, but for marathons, gear management and camping banter, I like to see what's going on. The way it would encourage you to play is exactly how I play anyway. ^_^ -
Lots of weapons use clips.Lee Enfield uses clips. EDIT: @OP, you should use the search bar before making a new topic. Your ideas and the responses would be more useful if they were added to one of the existing discussions.

Well then... There's no need for discussion to get so heated all the time. Everyone has their preferences, and reasons for them. It's just that differing opinions invariably lead to argument around here. Standalone needs to make some clear-cut definitions regarding what DayZ is. I'd be perfectly happy if every server was to have the same settings (yes, even 3dp:off) if it would mean we were playing the game as it's intended. -

Seems kind of a redundant measure TBH. I thought all the crying was over "periscopes". The guy, prone, on a roof in Elektro, in 3dp, will still spot you first. And he'll still have plenty of time to take aim and dome you. EDIT: It'll stop folk switching camera views mid-battle, which is helpful to the FPV cause I suppose. I'll just keep playing the way I always have. -
If solar panels or petrol/diesel generators are going to be of any use, the individual buildings/circuits you want to power would have to be disconnected from the grid. (easy enough) I think if everyone can repair a helicopter main rotor assembly, getting the lights on shouldn't be totally impossible. I've never worked with high voltage (>1000V AC) but it should be much the same as any other form of electrical engineering in principal. If there's a source of fuel, the plant could be fired back up, but when it comes to running the place, it'll take a little bit of figuring out. And you'd probably need a small army.

Waypoints only allowed with a GPS
[email protected] replied to TheG4Gaming's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Well, in reality you can set a destination on a civilian GPS. So there's that. Personally, I'd like to have GPS taken out of DayZ entirely. Ideally, the map + compass would be handled in-game, too. (like FarCry 2) Keeping you immersed in the game instead of switching to a menu. Anything on the HUD (crosshairs, nametags, waypoints) just feels stupid, considering the amount of stuff that's gone the "authentic" route. -
Third person vs First person view
[email protected] replied to Rising (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
You would be stupid for putting yourself at a disadvantage out of stubbornness.Like playing on a 3dp enabled server and complaining that players aren't all using 1st person. -
