[3D model] Different Food Qualities (3/29 Update)
[email protected] replied to joeyslucky22's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
A lot of fuss over nothing. I personally see no problem in having mod-dedicated snacks and drinks in DayZ, it's not any more immersion breaking than finding Heinz beans all over the place. I've never seen Mountain Dew in reality, but it never shocked me to the core, or ended the world, to find it in-game, I just accept that I'm not familliar with every product under the sun. Most folks don't seem too bothered that there are less than half a dozen food products in all of Chernarus. Is that not MORE immersion breaking? Kids will throw their toys out of the pram for any reason. Folks need to take a chill-pill. In any case, Joey and Elvaron, I'll say it again, damn fine work. EDIT: If we get printer-sticker paper, and stick the labels from Joeys' textures on to cans, we can get a photo which PROVES they exist IRL. No more crying about it then. -
Death by Zombie: Zombie with your gear.
[email protected] replied to Supercuate's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Since your obviously simple-minded, I'll try and make it easier for you.Zombies are fictional. Disease immunity is not. If you can't tell the difference between works of fiction and reality, you should read more, or take night classes or something. I'm truly concerned for your wellbeing. Stupidity can be dangerous. Fire is hot. Don't touch it. Remember to breathe occasionally. Don't eat yellow snow. -
I can't post links in this browser, but the topic suggesting having 3dp tied to Alt+look has some decent exploration of ideas. Rendering ONLY what would be visible to your character in FPV is a perfectly reasonable concept IMO. As I've mentioned, 3dp should be about awareness of your own character, nothing more. The tighter camera, as someone pointed out, would cause your avatar to take up a fair portion of the screen, but that's a drawback that should be accepted if it's a part of what, in a greater sense, is a solution to an exploitable mechanic. @gilbonez In my previous post, I didn't say playing in FPV servers is a solution to 3dp exploits. I said, if you play FPV only, what goes on in 3dp enabled servers has absolutely no bearing on your game whatsoever. Many folks complain of their "need" to play on 3dp servers because FPV servers aren't populated. Well, if you aren't playing in FPV servers, who's fault is it that they're empty? Yours.

Your inability to understand how biology works doesn't mean it's "bullshit", dude. Fact is, it'll be up to Rocket and whoever ends up fleshing out the DayZ lore whether the infection is airborne, spread by physical contact or otherwise and how immunity does or does not play into it. In-lore logic beats rule of cool. No matter how much you repeat your opinion. If anything should be considered "utter bullshit" it's your attitude. -
@flypp - That's yet another irrelevant point you've made. Well done. I'll give you a little analogy. In football, if you touch the ball with your hand, it's a foul. But in American football, well... If you play on Merc servers, there's no problem. Stick to them and let this topic discuss the subject at hand. Any discussion of 3dp is of absolutely no concern to anyone who doesn't play in 3dp enabled servers. If you just want FPV buddies to 69 with, start a new topic.
-
That might be what you use it for, but you should keep it to yourself lest your buddies end up shunning you. EDIT: There's a point to be made here. If you prefer playing in FPV only, then do it. Host or join "Merc" servers, support your own cause, stop blaming everyone else for your shortcomings. I'm here to discuss the topic and perhaps stumble upon solutions. At the very least come to some reasonable conclusions. If you want to cry, bitch and moan at someone, go see a psychiatrist. I don't get paid for this shit.
-
Are you saying that DayZ has to conform to your idea of an FPS? I understand the constraints of hardware, but I also see the solution in software. Fuck. If you were the mind behind advances in technology we'd still be waiting for the wheel.
-
That's pretty pathetic. If you're happy in FPV servers, stay and play there. If you want to find more PvP, play ArmA. I'd like to know your definition of "whiners" if at all possible. Every time I see one of these threads, the pro-FPV side are the only ones crying about anything. That's more an FOV issue. Which is a non-issue in SA.The fact remains, you shouldn't need to crane your neck to be aware of the position of your body. That's the one point the anti-3dp league will gladly gloss-over with regards to "authenticity".
-
I agree with Sausageking here, and I'd like to expand on this a bit.I'd like to see the "peeking-exploits" removed, but the reason I and many others use 3dp is to see what the character is up to. Whether just checking their threads, seeing how close they are to an edge or checking if they poke out of cover. It's awareness of yourself to a more natural degree than FPV can provide. In a vehicle, however, that "restricted awareness" is perfectly reasonable. You can only see outside a vehicle you're in by looking out the windows. In a perfect set-up we'd have the ability to move around more inside vehicles. Walking to the back of a bus, or swapping seats in a helo. This would give the ability to look out from different angles, and increase awareness without it being so unnatural.

Well, gibonez, we managed one whole reply before the same old bullshit started up. Can't fault you for trying, you're not alone in this kind of thinking. I'd like it if we had a Res4 style camera angle. But I think I'd like it more if everyone could come to a compromise. Honestly, I'm hoping SA has a little trick or two up its sleeve. But we'll have to wait and see.

It's never going to be necessary to jump when fences can be vaulted and there's not a single crevasse you need to cross. Ideally we'd have some sort of "context-sensitive" jumping and climbing, but I expect that's just a pipe-dream. If we had streams/rivers and punji-pits there might be a need to jump occasionally, but as it is, a freestanding "jump" is entirely pointless.
-
I have to disagree on this point. Where your shot lands should be the only indicator of what your scope is set to.None of the scopes I've ever dealt with have anything more than +/- numbers, sometimes in red or green so you can count the clicks up or down. You need to have a rough idea what you're trying to do before you can set your scope to a specific range. Maybe top-notch military gear has more help/indication, but I've never seen any so I couldn't say.
-
Two prior topics HERE and HERE. I'm not here to burst anyone's bubble, just drawing attention to a mass of discussion on the topic already. I like the idea of being able to panic-throw an empty rifle when the shit hits the fan, or pass gear to your buddies without leaving cover. But tomahawks and throwing knives? Not so much. Throwing a knife into a surface isn't as easy as people like to think. The floor around my dartboard can attest to that.

Replace M107/AS50 with less effective russian equivalent
[email protected] replied to Xianyu's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
A term that I don't really agree with in this case is "overpowered". A .50 BMG should be powerful. It's the simplicity of use that makes it so ridiculous. Ideally, (and realistically) an AMR would need a bipod to be used accurately. That one change should cut a fair bit of "OPness" right out. I've said before, weapon handling makes very little sense (I think Gews has similar thoughts on the subject). Hopefully SA can address some issues. I don't want these weapons removed, but they should be rare. WAAAAAY rarer than anything we've seen so far. Their Eastern Bloc cousins should be added to provide more authenticity and variety, but I don't see the benefit in reducing the variety of weapons in-game. -
I still think, if folks are using 3dp to be more aware of their own character then obfuscation, or non-rendering, of entities that would be out of their avatar's field of view is a perfectly sensible solution. The Alt+Scroll controls are an interesting idea. Ammo counts, hunger, blood-levels all are potentially hackable. By your logic, they shouldn't release the game at all.DayZ should be built with the intention of creating good gameplay first and foremost. Basing decisions purely on an "unhackable" end-product would cause it to suffer neglect in other areas.

What if we removed the crosshair?
[email protected] replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Well, the HUD is gone. That's not even in question anymore. (unless the current method bombs badly)I'd rather have some requirement to pay attention to our avatar's actions than a flashing indicator. Yes, IRL you'd be aware of your wants and needs, but some sensible assumption will keep requirements in check for the most part. Anything you don't notice will likely become more and more obvious. In my opinion, this idea is preferable to the "human Tamagotchi" system, by a country mile. -

To have a temporary stash, or a backup supply of ammo, or food, or meds, or anything you would use ANY method of storage for.Just quick and easily hidden. Tents are currently exploited constantly. It pretty much defeats the purpose of creating a gruelling survival challenge when you load up a tent and just go there straight after spawn. If you want loads of gear right off the bat, why are you playing DayZ? This isn't a question?!

Well fuck beans, it's a human spam-bot! -
If you're getting chased by a pack of folk planning to kill and/or eat you, you're better off not going inside a building with only one door or a ladder for access.
-
It's a pain in the neck, true. We shouldn't have to RP our weapons (using CQB guns for CQB actually puts you at a disadvantage in most cases)

Or you could go another way?

[email protected] replied to Supercuate's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
It's not "zombie game justification", it's basic biology. The zed virus is either a mutated form of a conventional virus, or it's structure is similar enough to one that acquired immunity to something else prevents its effects in our survivors. EDIT: Example. Cowpox used to vaccinate against smallpox. You can be immunised against a virus and still get food poisoning. It's an immune system not a super-mutant healing factor. -
It doesn't take a genius to figure out 13Kg is more than 4Kg.(though, apparently, that might be a little advanced for some)

Shhhhhh! They can hear you! Didn't you get the memo? We're allowed to speculate and joke, but DON'T MENTION THE WIZARDS. They don't like it when you bad-mouth them.
