  1. Duke Nukem Forever should have been cancelled a LONG time ago, but nobody was willing to give it its coup de grace. Don't even joke about it. DNFism should legitimately strike fear into the deepest reaches of your soul! If it happened to DayZ, we still wouldn't realise it. We'd be too busy anticipating.
  2. It's an interesting concept, but much like gamma-boosting at night, folks would just crank up their volume to compensate.
  3. Regarding sound/vision after flashes and bangs, there are already filters in place to simulate ringing in the ears, eyes adjusting to brightness etc. And that's all that's needed. The character you control should be under your control. Only their senses should be affected by in-game actions. If you want characters to start giggling or looking over their shoulder and generally acting without any input, you should be watching a film instead of playing a game. Idle-animations I'm ok with. As long as it's not excessive.
  4. No lore has been released. Any speculation about zed behaviour can only be based on what we've witnessed in-game. Which isn't much. You can't say "we are basing these zombies of the 28 days later zombies" because you don't know that. Inspiration will be taken from various sources, but that doesn't mean they'll follow the same rules.
  5. I seriously doubt the zeds understand the mechincs of infection.I'd assume that working entirely from instinct would lead to "it moves, so I'll chase it" mentality. Like a dog chasing a car.
  6. OP, you're not doing yourself any favours by ranting and throwing a tantrum. I agree with the suggestion, but your attitude is repulsive. EDIT: This topic is also about dragging, burying, hiding and disposing of bodies.
  7. I was. And I still am.Folks seem to be forgetting the massive extention to play-area we'll have when Chernarus+ and all its enterable buildings are open for business, too. A barricaded door or road isn't a problem. There's plenty other places to go. In any case, you should be able to remove other peoples barricades, it just takes time. Building entire fortresses isn't on the cards, or shouldn't be.The Mad Max "Junktown" that people seem to envisage whenever anyone mentions "bases", just wouldn't make sense. What WOULD make sense is the opportunity to fortify a small area to enough of an extent that zeds wont overrun you, and you could potentially defend it from attackers. Of course, it makes sense to use an existing building as the foundation of your "base" (for many reasons) but you certainly shouldn't be limited to existing buildings. That's my opinion anyway.
  8. Yeah, it's been suggested before. I think it would be good for gameplay. Of course the sound of flies would have to be removed, otherwise moving a body is pointless. You'd just follow the noise. I also think there should be an option to burn bodies and/or bury them properly. Both options should take a while. Obviously digging a hole takes longer than pouring petrol, but a flaming corpse draws a lot of attention in the short-term. Buried bodies should be able to be exhumed if you can find them. You might just be wasting your time, you might catch a nasty bug, or you might find some swish loot. Also, I'd like it if bodies could stay in-game longer, if it could be done without straining servers too much. Just make it so each player can have 1 corpse on the map at any time. Obvioulsy being removed after a while when you're no longer on the server. (~10 minutes)
  9. "Ammo conversion" won't be neccessary in SA since, from what has been hinted at/confirmed, magazines will be refillable and all suitable ammo can be used in any compatible gun. It might not be that way right from launch day, but since most weapon-related material is being remade from scratch, when it does come, it'll probably be way more advanced. It'll definitely be more suited to DayZ.
  10. I'm sure the new low-detail zed models will cut processor stress by a fair whack when they're implemented. And if by some miracle SA manages to use more than one core it'll improve performance vastly. If Rocket's saying it'll have the same performance as the mod currently, I'd wager he's not basing his estimate on the times where you get shitty FPS. The fact that he's saying, quite confidently, that they've got a more even, less lag-spikey build speaks volumes.
  11. Who said 24/7? If we're throwing out suggestions because nobody will use them 24/7 theres NEVER going to be an accepted idea. Lern 2 logic
  12. There was another topic where me and Private Evans were talking about having an acoustic jam on side-chat or over radio-comms. The delay would fuck it up royally, but I like the idea. Maybe it would have to be a live-set from one source.
  13. Anyone could. There's a bit of an art to it, but it's not exactly rocket science. Anyone who can tape down the broadcast button on a handset and play a CD or MP3 is a potential DJ. Pretty much exactly what the OP's on about with vehicle chat. I reckon radio green mountain (RGM) would be a good idea, too. I bet you don't consider the fact that every car is uinlocked with the keys in it to be immersion breaking though, eh? :P EDIT: *Shakes fist* I'll break your immersion in a minute. I reckon a radio station could be as end-game as a powerplant or any other purpose-serving building you can occupy. @Sodesa, add it to the list :D
  14. On the topic of gamma-boosting. I'm resigned to the fact that folk who are absolutely dedicated to cheating/exploiting are going to find a way. That doesn't, by any stretch of the imagination, mean that the game should accomodate them. That non-rendering of darkness should definitely help to some degree. You know if we start hearing "it's too dark! I turned up my brightness and STILL can't see" then it works. 3rd party chat programs should be investigated too. Why would detecting and blocking them be illegal? That doesn't make sense. If it interferes with intended gameplay, it's a problem. If a mic is detected by the game, in-game chat channel should ALWAYS be on. Of course, folks will figure out how to avoid/bypass it, but cheaters gonna cheat, amirite?
  15. @novogeek Do you think the phrase "beaten to death" is just romantic imagery? No. That would be stupid. Of course a person can be killed by blows to the head. It's common sense. Did you never wonder why people don't like getting punched in the face? It causes damage. That's why. I would tell you, but we're not allowed to talk about it.EDIT: Oh shit. I mean, I have no idea what you're talking about. :|
  16. Tourniquets are what you'd need.I think with the revised medical/injury system more field-medic practices should be included as standard. Heal-all bandages and leg-fixing morphine are not in keeping with the theme of authenticity DayZ aims for. I wouldn't like to venture into the area of Quake gibs, but something more than a simple retexture on death would be appreciated, I'm sure. No stitching arms and legs back on though. Too far.... ....too far.
  17. I see what you mean now. I suppose the rules are just different for official features in a standalone retail product. As a Half-life or GTA mod, the creators of the base-game can hold thier hands up and say "we didn't do it" If DayZ shipped with this feature it would probably kick up a massive shitstorm. The specifics of it are worth looking at though because none of my guesswork is going to hold-up in court.
  18. Remember, the idea of it being server-dependent would rely on having characters locked to a server. If you can move between servers, the same problems mentioned by Hetstaine would arise again. Personally, I really like the idea. There was another discussion about this before, but we never could agree a solution to the percieved "breaking immersion" or spawning inside objects. (well actually it was a topic about chopper crashes, but the point got a little shifted to more variety in objects etc.) If we'll still be allowed to change servers at will, IMO there's no reason that your character has to be in the exact location you logged out. You could be a few yards away without it being the end of the world. The aforementioned chopper crashes don't ruin the whole experience, but to be fair this suggestion would make in-game variety WAY more obvious. ON the subject. There could be towns (like Stary) with entire military or medical posts that are not neccessarily always there. I think it would add a LOT to gameplay, and hinder loot-map users by making them actually play the game as intended.
  19. I'm not too familliar with the license regulations or anything, but somebody would have to accept responsibility for any uploads, and I don't think Bohemia can trust folk to stick to the rules. If you've seen the amount of hassle folk get for uploading stuff to Youtube, you'll have a rough idea. Copyright owners go MENTAL over that sort of thing. EDIT: What do you mean when you say it's been done before? It'd be a cool feature, but it's potentially a legal minefield.
  20. :oSpree ended. Time for a new gimmick. This one's dead.
  21. The main problem is the rights to use songs are prohibitively expensive, so no in-built music radio is likely. BI would need some serious legal paperwork to allow any player-uploading along those lines, too. It's not going to happen. Radio communication is probably going to be included, and broadcast channels can be adopted by any groups in-game. BUT, discussing what is essentially a pirate radio station is NOT a good idea. I don't want to stir the hornets nest, so I'll leave you to it.
  22. As SausageKing says, I'd like there to be some distinction between the camo'd-up folks freezing their asses off and the cosy, warm teletubby looking fuckers. Storage space should be a deciding factor too. "I was going to put on this camouflaged poncho, but it doesn't have an inside pocket for my Ipod, so I'll stick with the day-glo pink fleece."
  23. Fuck beans. There's no need to be arguing over whether or not making an existing map into a winter map would be a big job or not. The simple fact is there are far more important things for the art guys to be working on right now. New weapon, clothing and item models and textures take priority. Then, of course, there will be zombies and vehicles to deal with. You also don't seem to be considering the fact that the map is already being reworked, into Chernarus+. Changing seasons would be cool, but it would make more sense to have that accounted for whenever the time comes for the team to create a NEW map. EDIT: That's not an angry post BTW. Imagine it in my "sit you down and explain" voice. :P
  24. :o*cough**cough**cough* Erm... MY game, War-D, has been in development for 2 years. It's the first dinosaur island MMO.
  25. I'll bite. End-game loot would have to be a smoothie machine/blender though.
