DayZ Alpha won't launch until launched !
[email protected] replied to [email protected]'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
@gummy We're watching as the development progresses and anticipating a release. If you consider our support for a work in progress "fanboyism", you're in the wrong place. You've chosen to make yourelf part of this community, clearly with the aims of becoming the resident contrarian. Your "point" is nothing but an opinion, which you're entitled to hold. Just don't expect anything nearing agreement from me. EDIT: I even went back to read everything you've written AGAIN, to ensure I hadn't mininterpreted your posts. As I suspected, you haven't even come close to making a "point", infact what I've found is that you yourself are the one making statements ad hominem and have jumped to conclusions I would expect from someone who wears a tin-foil hat. Bohemia Interactive have a good reputation, as does Rocket himself. Any assumptions made regarding the development and release of DayZ are tempered, quite rightly, with this reputation in consideration. You are also earning a reputation. One less flattering. -
In SA I hope the brutal survival is enough of a challenge that it could distract you from the Zed-threat. Maybe with lulls in zombie-population in random areas, or at random times. When you're desperate and half-dead, zombies out of nowhere would be a shit-your-pants moment. Especially when you'd almost forgotten about them. I'm not keen on the idea of removing them altogether. The recipe for DayZ is nature + zombies kicking your ass. It'd still be cool without Zeds, if it can be made challenging enough, but it just wouldn't be the same.

Hero Skin Drop Leg Holster

Yes. And when I don't have a side arm, I should be able to use my holster to carry a can of Irn Bru. Also, add Irn Bru to loot-tables. -
(SA) Inventory shows your characters physical condition (Status Screen) (HAS PICTURES!).
[email protected] replied to colekern's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The gear-menu we saw in the PAX demo clearly shows your entire avatar, so FPV or not, this menu potentially allows for more awareness of your character. Face and all.Of course, there's no indication that this was Rocket's intention, but it seems like a sensible idea. I always just assumed "no HUD" would mean we'd need to "Alt-look" at ourselves to get an idea of our condition. This new menu configuration would be far better IMO. Even if injury/illness isn't represented as Colekern or Roykingtree suggest, it's reasonable to assume that it'd be somewhere along those lines. EDIT: Obviously we'd still need real-time hints and cues. Your buddy going "Are you ok, dude? You look a bit pale." would be the icing on the cake. -

Ridley Scott's original concept of "Butt-Huggers", while too terrifying for a movie franchise, would be well suited to dishing out the punishment these "civilized" people deserve. -

Ideally I'd like to see as much as possible represented with just stances and animations. This idea is a good way to draw attention to some things that would be very difficult to show. A slight improvenent (in my eyes) would be if you only got info on a particular need/bodypart by examination of it (by clicking). I picture there being subtle hints that something is wrong, but further investigation is needed to see the details. Also beans for Dr. Wasteland : "What's the worst that could happen?" (a broken leg, that's what) EDIT: Facial animations would add to this concept quite well, I think. -

Greedo clearly just wanted out of the bounty-hunter business, by any means. Skillfully managed to make it look like manslaughter. Genius. There are so many bounty-hunters because of how coconut acts in zero gravity. Bounty is NOT a suitable spacebar. So they have to be destroyed. -

DayZ Alpha won't launch until launched !
[email protected] replied to [email protected]'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Listen, dumbass. The majority of folks here WANT to buy the alpha release, because they WANT to see the game as it develops, safe in the knowledge that THEY OWN THE GAME ALREADY.There's no underhanded, dodgy-dealing going on. Nobody here is lacking in understanding regarding the implications of "Alpha access". I'm sure your paranoid delusion revolves around the idea that you're some superior intelligence. But you're not. Get back on your high-horse and fuck off. -

Well if you're talking about function, remember most (if not all) "hold to perform action" keys have "toggle" settings too. Run, Freelook, Zoom out etc. I wouldn't worry about it. BI guys are VERY good with custom settings. There's no reason to believe DayZ will be any different. -

DayZ devs shouldn't be swapping their default key bindings around to suit "most other games". They might as well make spacebar to aim, since space isn't currently in use. Everyone should be custom mapping their keys anyway. You should NEVER play with default keys! For any game I know most FPS have similar settings, but having to learn a control configuration to suit the game is daft, considering you can configure the controls to suit yourself. In DayZ it'll be particularly important. Muscle-memory will get you killed. -

Thank you Kra. I typed up 2 different responses to gummy's post, but both ended up just unable to express how ridiculous it is. Alpha access allows you to play the game throughout development AND on release. How does that make BI "greedy cunts"? If anything they're taking less money! I'm holding judgement on the sales model until the minute Rocket takes my card details. Jumping to conclusions based on gaming journo articles as opposed to official anouncements is usually a bad move. -

I fucking love bacon. If NPCs end up in DayZ though, all the bacon in the world won't stop the Hulk-outs. RAAWR! CHABOWSKI HATE PUNY "NPC" SUGGESTION EDIT: The combination of including NPCs and disallowing PvP in one server made me black out a little bit there. -
SA: 'No advanced weapons'
[email protected] replied to Xianyu's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Why the argument? Just use some common sense. To be honest, I love the potential for variety. I don't like the idea of removing weapons, even when they don't fit the theme, but the fact is if these AMRs are included at all, they'll be farmed until everyone and their dog has one anyway, due to their percieved OP reputation. It'd be better to just get rid of them altogether. I have to agree with what Gews said. There's no reason a decent .338 couldn't replace them in terms of function. It would certainly make loadouts less ridiculous. What's more important IMO is encouraging the use of the correct weapon for particular situations, as opposed to the "AS50 multi-tool" mindset. @Skittle, shooting mechanics in game are nowhere near representative of authentic weapon handling. It's essentially exactly the same as any other FPS; Oversimplified and misleading. But that's a subject for a different discussion. -

The humanity system will be a thing of the past (at least in the state we're used to). I think the idea is to create the felling that every player could be a potential bandit/murderer AND a potential ally, and you'd be able to distinguish which by their actions. In the mod, "bandits" don't always KoS but KoSers always end up with a bandit skin. If folks insist on playing pure-PvP all the time, it overshadows pretty much all other facets of gameplay. It makes sense to try and allow players to move out of the rut we seem to have gotten stuck in. It's a means to an end. Might as well wait and see how it plays out. -

There's a HUGE difference between restricting your freedom of playstyle and what the Devs are trying to do.Playing the game as intended is **drumroll** part of the game. Of course folk are going to act like their being victimised when the game tries to discourage them from reflex-killing everything that moves. And it'll still be an option anyway. If the entire playerbase devolved to KoS it would reduce the options for further development in gameplay mechanics. Anyone who sees the need to hold down a button as a punishment must lead a very sheltered existence. -
It's the same reason there are so many "Always spawn with dual AS50s" and "5 million vehicles" servers; A large portion of the current DayZ playerbase has missed the point entirely, and they get real pissy when you point it out. I'm sure 99.9% 24/7 daylight is a slight exaggeration, but it's far more common than it should be.

International commerce means you could probably find "le Beans" and "el Beans" in Chernarus anyways. Since brands seem to not like association with zombie survival ( :(), we'll probably just be eating "Generic spaghetti hoops in generic tomato sauce", or white-label beans. -
Visual Effects from headgear
[email protected] replied to Clumzy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The way the view works has the camera in front of the eye and uses the same player-model (maybe it's different for SA). To get this to work it'd probably have to be done as a simple overlay or a view model (which RV games tend not to use) It would be a worthwhile addition to the game, provided it can be done in a way which provides lifelike benefits and not just a different look. It'd be a lot of work, but it could be awesome if it's done right. I remember having a similar discussion about the selection of glasses that are in the profile editor, and how they should affect your vision. Running around in the dark with shades on.... What an asshole. Since we're getting full clothing changes I'd assume SA will make glasses part of your clothes, not part of your face. EDIT: @ liquidcactus. Don't drag this down into another 3rd vs 1st rage debate, FFS -
That'd be a good use for the crafting system. I made something similar out of 2 busted cameras. You need quite a lot of lamps/diodes to see outside for any distance though. Everyday commercial stuff isn't very powerful. If you're using this style of improvised Night Vision, anyone with a similar detector/display or proper NVGs will see your IR lamp too, so it would work like torches do, but only if you're able to see it. Besides the gadgets. You should have a button to keep your eyes closed for a while, so when you open them your vision adjusts better to the dark.

Since I very rarely use hipfire (slow and steady wins the race) the "lowered by deafult" / "hold to aim" really sounds like a positive change. At least IMO it's move away from KoS deathmatch game features. Looks like the game still has a crosshair though (a very loose one). I really thought that would have been scrapped with the rest of the HUD. @Armaggedon97 + Katana67 ; I think I get what you're saying, have an ability to toggle whether you have your weapon readied or lowered by default, but I'd like to think a readied weapon would make you move slower or have some drawbacks to it. Otherwise there's really going to be no point in defaulting to "lowered". Everyone would just play like CoD/BF in hipfire-mode constantly, unless they were role-playing. I might be wrong, but that's how I see it. -
Usually some decent banter in Off-Topic. That'd have to be my pick. Feel kinda bad though, what with this being a game-specific forum. It's almost missing the point. I just think it's cool that we've got such a massive variety of folks and topics but we all share at least one common interest. A lot of time gets spent in Suggestions, but it tends to either induce rages or nosebleeds.

I'm sure when the SA comes we'll look back at gun-eating backpacks with fondness. It's like a defining characteristic of the mod. ^_^ I never understood why it wasn't handled the same as vehicle storage. If your car is overloaded, any stuff you try to put in just gets dropped to the ground. (Took me quite a while to figure that out the first time. Heh.)
