If you two want to argue the definition, go start en edit-war on Wikipedia or something. :P @Byrgesen, as far as I and most folks are concerned, 28 days later is a zombie movie. If you want to be pedantic, George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead doesn't have zombies in it either. They're ghouls. Zombies are Haitian, supposedly dead, and under the control of their voodoo master. Actually brain-damaged from being in a tetrodotoxin induced coma. EDIT: On-topic I think I'd prefer less specific types of zeds, in favour of more variety in civillan clothing. From playing plenty games over the years, pedestrians and mobs get repetitive fast. I'd rather have mix n match zeds than just more "mythbuster" or "knitted breeks" models. Even just simple texture-swaps would allow for variation, if actual changes in clothing are unreasonable.

What if we removed the crosshair?
[email protected] replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
As far as I can tell, world interaction in the mod is a pain in the ass mostly because of the size, shape and locations of hitboxes on map assets and objects. A crosshair shouldn't be necessary at all, you shouldn't have too big a problem figuring out roughly where the middle of your screen is. A little tweaking here and there would make a world of difference though. The new inventory menu, which appears to show nearby loot on the ground, will reduce the problems we've seen previously regarding items, but the real issue is the hassle of finding things such as a door handle or the latch of a gate. In those situations, all the crosshairs under the sun won't help you. EDIT: In the video of Rocket's demo at PAX, the game still had a crosshair. -
The protagonist (Bill?) didn't get blinded by the meteor shower because he was already temporarily blinded by a Triffid sting, so he missed the show.Maybe they don't aim to blind (or maybe they do) but apparently getting whipped in the eyes will fuck you up.
-
Folks who are allergic to bee stings etc. would have epi-pens, in case they go into anaphylactic (sp?) shock. That'd make it reasonable as a rare drop in homes. Morphine and grenades, not so much. It'd be a cool addition, but the way gear is handled in the mod has caused loaded backpacks stored in tents/cars to come out empty, so I don't know how the game would handle spawning with loot already in bags. If it's possible it'd probably mean adding different bags (an individual for each kind of loot contained) to the loot-tables. Which would mean it's not quite as random.

OR you could realise that when you line up sights/optics with a target THAT is where you're aiming. ;)We don't need to fork out for a tactile-interface, VR-goggles and smell-o-vision to just make the game feel reasonably authentic. -
DayZ Alpha won't launch until launched !

To clarify. I don't actually want folks to start setting themselves alight. I shouldn't need to explain that it was a joke, but as Max pointed out, you can never be too careful when the megaminds around here are concerned. ^_^ Flaming hand videos will NOT make SA come out sooner. Though I'd still consider it more constructive than complaining. -

Seems to me you're speaking from an impatient complainer point of view. But it's OK. Rocket says if you record a video of you burning all the skin off your hand and post it on here, he'll come back and release SA immediately. -
3rd Party Interaction, and why it ruins the game
[email protected] replied to applejaxc's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've only ever brought this subject up with regard to other supposed "exploits" and I'm not in a mood for repeating myself, but I'll add my thoughts. If the communication system in-game was such that it could negate the requirement for these 3rd party systems, that would be preferable to forcefully disallowing them. If I'm honest, I'm not keen on TS skype for DayZ. But I'm not going to cut off my nose to spite my face. I don't want these chat-tools banned JUST to stop other squads form being able to communicate. In terms of immersion and authenticity it may be unnatural, but in terms of gameplay, it's something you just have to deal with. It's a game. People play how they choose to play. EDIT: In an ideal world there would be no need for (or use of) these programs, but "ideal" isn't all too common. -

B- In this context "Friday" always ends with a questionmark. -
I think a wider variety would be welcomed, but it's not necessarily high-priority. In the long run, when player clothing gets to the point where it's providing very real and measurable benefits and drawbacks, these same effects should apply to zeds who wear similar items. Eg. Body armour is body armour, no matter who's wearing it. Same goes for helmets, warm clothing, footwear (traction/speed), camo etc. Some of the impact will depend on whether zeds feel cold and stuff like that, but it's worth thinking about IMO. Ideally there would be some system of randomisation to zeds cothing, to stop it becoming stale and predictable. Obvioulsy uniformed zeds won't have as much variation as civillians, but there would still be the chance for a mix of armoured and non-armoured military / police zeds.

How to balance all the different gamestyles?
[email protected] replied to liquidmind's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
With the further development of survival elements in SA, I'm sure there will be more pressing matters to worry about than "boner-banditing". As I see it, any other player who's actions interfere with what I'm doing just becomes another feature/challenge of the game. I don't KoS and I'm not a bandit, but their being there only enhances my experience. Yes getting shot in the back is a pisser, but being in a game with potentially dangerous folk encourages you to be more cautious and play smarter. For that reason, I don't like segregation in DayZ. -
How to balance all the different gamestyles?
[email protected] replied to liquidmind's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
It's not about "jerks messing up other peoples games", it's about playing the game as it was intended. Now, before somebody gets uppity, I'm not having a go at anyone or singling people out, just calling it how I see it. The apparent intention is to allow everyone the freedom to act as they wish, within the confines of the game-world. That invariably means dealing with other people and their actions as you see fit, whether postitive or negative. Rage's post above sussed it. No balance is needed. In my personal opinion if there's one thing wrong with PvPers killing folks on a Non-PvP server it's the fact that someone has decided to disallow a certain playstyle. -
I've been using ATVs since the 1.7.3 update and can replace wheels and engine blocks, but can't repair either the fuel tanks or the hulls. I have a toolbox and all the required materials, but no matter which area of the quad I look at, the option to repair these two parts never shows up. These components are definitely damaged but I'm unable to do anything about it. I started a topic in the Troubleshooting section, which can be found HERE

This is the first post I made regarding this "Kickstarter" model, in its entirety.Note, my disregard for statements made in the article, owing to the fact that I investigate and reach my own conclusions instead of going Chicken Little like you. The sky is, in fact, NOT falling. A little note to you, for future reference. Going back to edit posts to which someone has already replied is bad practice. EDIT: @Evans With an arse as wide as a wizard's sleeve, gummy would've been a perfect companion. I was just finishing up our little cabin in the woods when the ugly truth bore its head. No trust for Rocket?! :o *Spanish soap-opera slap* You broke my heart gummy. You broke my heart. -

A logical fallacy from your perspective, which to everyone else just so happens to be a perfectly well evidenced conclusion, based on tangible evidence and reputation, is arguing from ignorance? That's the best you could come up with? Pathetic. And you have still failed to make a point. Now, the simple fact that I don't share your views doesn't mean I can't follow your reasoning. But to put it bluntly, I feel your skepticism is misplaced. -

OK. How about you clearly state your point. Avoid your pompous verbosity and dead-language idioms and just explain to the rest of the class what you see as the issue at hand. No subjective forcefulness, no perception of victimisation. Just plain and simple explanation. Go. -

Again, you haven't made a point. You have a different opinion on the "morality" of the sales structure (which is supported and understood by most of the folks here, in case you hadn't noticed) and are hypocritically accusing everyone else of disregarding your views. No point made. This banter is REALLY getting old. Just drop it. You can't "suffer" at the hands of BI if you choose not to take part in the proposed scheme. So just don't. Until your Nostradamus banter comes to fruition, try to avoid making assumptions or jumping to conclusions. You already proved your ego outweighs your knowledge on the subject when you based your entire initial argument on one flawed article. And if you feel you HAVE to respond, remember : "He who laughs last, probably didn't understand the joke." -
Everyone's too old and tired to rage nowadays. In other news, Mortal Kombat 10 will have a "no fighting" mode. It plays like an alcoholics-anonymous meeting. Everyone just sits in a circle and eats biscuits.

Personally, I appreciate the fact that the mods are comfortable enough in their position to speak with us proles candidly and informally. That this isn't to every person's taste is none of my concern. The fact is, regardless of the colour of their screen name, every user here is entitled to share their opinion. -

Big thanks to both Fraggle and Mr. Lightfoot. Since folks will continue to insist on jumping to conclusions, it's nice to know someone cares enough to catch them when they fall. As a side note, does anyone remember a time when journalists investigated and reported instead of half-listening and making the rest up? Lesson learned? Do the research. That goes for writers and readers. EDIT: I feel like I might rant about game-journos too often. But anyone who does their job properly has no reason to be offended by my distaste for those who don't. -
Simple Suggestion: Can I choose where I sit in the bus please?
[email protected] replied to -Guardian-'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
No way, you can sit at the front with the rest of the geeks. But seriously, that would be a decent addition. Seats should be numbered, like in Battlefield (1942/Nam at least, I'm not familliar with current BF) or Planetside. It'd make sense to be able to either target/highlight the seat you want or select it from the mousewheel menu, for the range of vision you get from particular seats. Jumping between seats to look out different windows would be handy too. EDIT: Ideally it'd be complete with "seat switching" animations, not just teleporataion. -
DayZ Watch List; Yes or No?
[email protected] replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'd like to see players earning in-game reputations from other people and word of mouth, but a list to report people you consider untrustworthy? I don't like it. It'd just be full of butthurt and bitching. For some folks deception is a tool of the trade. It might be an underhanded tactic, but it comes with the territory. Yeah it sucks when you get fucked over, but it's a vital part of the experience IMO. I'd spread the word and warn other folks in game, but I wouldn't "report" anyone to a list of liars. EDIT: I also wouldn't like it if everyone who meets another player feels the need to Alt+Tab out so they can search for them on a report list. -
character development as incentive [long]
[email protected] replied to _Anubis_ (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Skills tied to your GUID as opposed to your character's life would provide ZERO incentive to survive. If the point of it is developing skills over time, death has to reset it, otherwise it's just a feature to be exploited by xp farmers and grinders. Player-skill plays a big part in your ability to perform certain actions well (driving, aiming etc.) but character-skill should be used as mentioned in the OP to represent affinity and improvement in skills and abilities which are reduced to simply "click to perform action" in-game. -

Holy christ Crunchy, that font is brutal. If anything, the longer development time will lead to shaking off bandwagon-jumpers as opposed to proper fans of the concept.
