  1. I think you missed my point. The features and abilities of certain tools are just features. Whether they're "better" depends on a range of things. For example, fixed low-power binoculars have a wider FOV than "zoomed-out" variable binoculars just because of the way the "zoom" works. (you can see the inside of the tube take up more of your vision as you zoom out. Try it yourself if you have a pair kicking about) Not as a gamey, artificial disadvantage, that's just how they work.
  2. @ Toastedzen. Do have any understanding of context? A big part of joining a discussion is reading and comprehension. If that's too advanced, you could always wait until you level up and spend some stat-points, eh?
  3. Progression and levelling up isn't how the real world works though. We're all about picking the right tool for the job. ;) Sometimes "the right tool" is ostensibly worse.
  4. More variety in all tools is welcome. Especially if it comes with a variety benefits and drawbacks. You might get a more powerful set, but they may not have the same level of anti-reflection. So you'd see further, but with lower contrast or a more hazy image. That sort of thing. I don't like to think of things as necessarily "better" or "worse", but some combination of features where your preference or specific needs also play a part..

    ARMA 3 - DayZ

Indeed. @OP There's an ArmA3 "version" (I use the term VERY loosely) of DayZ called "Zoombies". As far as I know, nobody here endorses it. And you'd still need ArmA2 OA and DayZmod to play it anyway. Basically it's a port of the mod, which requires that you already have the ability to play the mod. A pointless exercise, if you ask me. From what I hear you also have to register somewhere before you can download it. So, in short, I don't think anyone can help you out here.
  6. For SA, pretty much all we know about infection and diseases is that, to the best of the devs' abilities, they will model them more closely after real-world symptoms, causes and treatments. With that in mind any suggestions made will likely fall short on the authenticity front, unless you're reading them straight from a medical encyclopaedia.
  7. If you see a nice man with a shemagh over his face, ask him for directions.
  8. With some tweaking, that would probably work. If you flat out stopped players joining unpopulated servers, nobody would ever be able to join any server (they all start empty). I think, without showing players ANY server population info, you could make servers with 10-15 open spaces always the most prominent. Maybe move them to the top of the list or whatever. There are more important factors for what makes a "good" server, anyway. Such as ping and timezone. Maybe instead of locking players out of certain servers, impose a few minutes of countdown-timer, increasing more for emptier servers. Even a warning saying "You will have to wait XX minutes to join a server with XX empty slots" would probably be enough to put most folks off.
  9. @hogs You shouldn't be trying to loot your own corspe anyway. It's supposed to be a permadeath-punishment. Take it like a man.
  10. Simulating the increased scarcity of food and resources in areas which have been raided more often would go a long way towards making the world feel as though it's actually being lived in. Not just a "game-map" where you wait for things to respawn. I think it'd also be a really good way of encouraging a "migration" of sorts, from time to time. Making player hot-spots undesirable for long-term stays.
  11. And if you'd understood what I just told you, you wouldn't be so unappreciative and rude.

    Writer's Haven

Seeing the red lines misaligned only when in full screen. Must be a resolution thing.
  13. I just use numpad. You don't really need a hand on the mouse if you're not going to be aiming. You could map the "freelook" or "directional-look" buttons to any key. Or have a separate "toggle freelook" button. I dunno. Just spitballing TBH. EDIT: Just a thought. You could map your keys so that holding "W" then pressing "Q" or "E" would look behind you. That will work OK for the mod. It depends on how the functions will be set up (eg. leaning and walking at the same time) if you're talking about SA though. There's always ways and means around it.
  14. For early-stage survivors, there's a chance, however small, that you'd find bullets and a gun, but no magazines. For this situation I think manually loading single rounds should at least be an option. We've seen the magazine as an attachment on the weapon, and we've seen bullets loaded into a magazine. I suppose it depends on whether or not semis and automatics will NEED a magazine to fire. We've been shown the break-barrel "hunting rifle" pics. And for the more civilian side of things I assume we're eventually going to have single-shot bolt-actions and tube-fed pump-actions and maybe lever actions. So we must be able to load loose rounds straight into those. Hopefully it's not a feature restricted to non-magazine weapons.
  15. Well that's just sad. No doubt there are plenty of petty folks who would drop DayZ like a hot tattie if they didn't get their way. But there's a LOT more to it than just the FPV/3dp. The way DayZ is turning out is such a break from the norm ATM that I just don't see how picking one perspective over another should be a deal-breaker for anyone seriously interested in the basic concept. EDIT: Maybe there's just some fundamental difference in the way we're all looking at the game and it's development. It's pretty much impossible to come at this without preconception of some sort Anyway. I'm not finding this subject so interesting now. I think I'll bow out while the seas are still reasonably calm.
  16. The thing is, you NEED to know at least a little bit about server-population. You don't want to be running around an empty server. That kind of defeats the point of playing online.
  17. Not "spawn-beacon"able. And what are beachlanders going to do? I don't support the idea, but at least read it before you counter it.
  18. Wut? 3dp doesn't stop you using ironsights or scopes. Shack-Tac don't need you to whiteknight for them. Selective perception is running rampant around here. EDIT: spelling
  19. It's come up a lot over the course of time. I don't see much good coming out of it TBH. Yeah, you've got more sets of eyes. But you've also got more bodies to arm and more mouths to feed. Not to mention you multiply your chances of being spotted by Zeds or players. As a fresh spawn you should be struggling to fend for yourself as is. And I would prefer solo-spawns only. As far as I'm concerned, convenience shouldn't be one of the design targets.
  20. Taking big risks for the most minimal of rewards IS the experience. That's precisely what folks have overlooked of late. Whatever it is these spawngear-servers have turned into, it's certainly not DayZ.
  21. Folks would of course play DayZ if it was FPV only. Folks would also still play DayZ if 3dp was the only option. The difference is, a vocal portion of FPVers would strart this same bitching session again. :P I tend to use FPV, even when on 3dp servers, because I prefer it that way. Some of the folks I play with when I group up would have a hard time adjusting, however, and I can appreciate that. So I make a point of poking holes in ridiculous false logic and making it clear when someone is talking shit. The point of this topic was discussion. If someone can support their side of the argument without bare-faced lying about advantages/disadvantages(Wayze), or using their personal opinion as their only evidence(other folks), they're part of a "civilized discussion". As has been said, Shack-Tac play in FPV, BUT with crosshairs enabled and a team-spotting radar. That, in my opinion, is not the most engaging or immersive way to play. It's their preference though, so I don't try and shout them down for it. I would like to see a resolution which benefits THE GAME. Not myself personally. And not any one individual.
  22. Not all that different. Canned dog/cat food is still meat (or thereabouts) and in most places it's meant to be fit for human consumption, by law. Really though, we should probably start getting used to the idea of eating squab fillets, rat burgers and um.... hot-dogs. ;) How do you like the sound of a canine kebab. Or a feline fajita?
  23. The simple fact is, the folks who are expecting SA to be anything like their "million vehicles" and "spawn with lightsaber" servers, are going to be SERIOUSLY disappointed. It'll be awesome. There will be feet-stamping and there will be tears. I trust Rocket's plan. And I trust that he's not going to deviate from it to please anyone. The mod may be dying a death, but our real DayZ experience is just around the corner. We just have to be patient.
  24. And I'm sure any creature would do the same. But that doesn't stop packs of wolves from regularly taking down deer and other large animals, does it? An elk/moose/deer would kick a man's ass 1 on 1, so I reckon if wolves can take them down, they can definitely take zombies down. Did you read Gews' post? Zeds don't use tools, so I don't imagine bare-handed struggling is going to do any good against a wolf-pack. :P
